Well written account of the Battle of Britain. Chronological timeline allows for a refreshing experience as the narrative flows well and contains many details I hadn't learned of prior to reading this book.

I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley exchange for an hones review.

I'm fascinated by the history of WW2, especially the European theater. This book follows the stories of 6 fighter pilots that fought in the Battle of Britain. They came from different backgrounds, some Public School Boys, some humble, some foreign born and one was fighting in the German Luftwaffe. What they all had was courage, skills that sometimes took a while to develop, and a love a country. The 5 RAF pilots had the terrible burden of keeping the Germans from getting an advantage that could be used to launch a land invasion. That this unbelievable task was given to young men who were teenagers or in their early twenties astonishes me. Author John Willis lets you get to know these men as they were growing up, became obsessed and passionate about flying and their journeys to becoming fighter pilots. The incredibly haphazard training they sometimes received and the often inept commanders and military planners that seemed to have little regard for human life saddens me. This book beautifully shows the pride, terror, camaraderie, suffering and ultimate survival these brave young men endured when they gave their best and risked not having a future to be one of Winston Churchill's few.

An interesting book on the triumphs and tragedies of the men who fought during the Battle of Britain. The human interest stories were well told and kept me interested. This is a great book for those interested in air warfare and the battle. A must read.

Thank you to #NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
