This is a really good book! Fantasy, magic, intrigue, danger, maybe a love story; all the elements I love in a story.

Two worlds collide in this fast-paced fantasy. Austin only wanted to travel to a place where his late girlfriend, Rhi, loved to go. He needed to be able to be someplace where she had been, to see something new through her eyes, to hold on to his memory of her. He wasn't expecting what he really found there. If anyone would have told him the things that he was about to learn, he would have told them that they're crazy. In a series of events, he meets Coirinna, and the world as he knew it unravels. Now it is up to Austin and Corinna to save not only one world, the world Austin knew, but also a world that Corinna tells him that Rhi is actually from. Getting past his grief of losing Rhi and his mistrust of Corinna might prove fatal to all involved.

This story throws you into a chase from page one and doesn't stop until the last page is turned. It is quite the ride!

Some of the dialog and indecision gets irritating after a while. But I think that is because, as the reader, you can see the bigger story unfolding and you just want to get where you're going. If you think you have this one figured out, think again. I was totally wrong in what I thought was going to happen. TOTALLY!

This reads like the first book in a series and I would definitely read the other books if it were. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and gave it 4 stars. I recommend it to anyone who loves fantasy and magical reads.

I accidentally put the review of another book here, I will edit it with the right review as soon as I've finished this book! The three star rating is my version of average until I have an actual rating!

Memory of Dragons is a NA cross-worlds fantasy novel by Michael Munz. Due out 15th June 2020, it's 315 pages and will be available in paperback and ebook formats. It's worth noting that the ebook format has a handy interactive table of contents as well as interactive links and references throughout. I've really become enamored of ebooks with interactive formats lately. For Kindle Unlimited subscribers, this book is currently included in the KU subscription library to borrow and read for free.

This is a well written and deftly plotted fantasy. The parallel worlds/portal trope is popular, but the world building and magic here is unusually good. Fantasy creatures have been sent to earth through a magical rift as punishment or containment for thousands of earth years (turns out politicians from other worlds aren't a lot different than our own) and it's up to protagonist Austin to thwart the bad guy's plans, save the world, and keep the evil dragons from getting loose and running amok.

The pacing and story arc are nicely controlled and plotted and the whole of the narrative works well. The characterization could have been more finely drawn, but overall the author does a good job of using action and settings to move the story along. The denouement was foreshadowed pretty heavily, there weren't any AHA surprises or huge reveals. Overall a satisfying fantasy with dragons and tragic character backstories. It works very well as a standalone and it isn't clear that there will be more books to come (presumably there will be, but this one ends on a fairly satisfying note).

I would recommend this one to fans of darker crossworlds fantasy such as Lev Grossman, Stephen Lawhead, or even Stephen R. Donaldson.

Four stars, I'll keep an eye out for more work by the author.

A well written mixture of adult and young adults fantasy, where two worlds meets each other. Austin lost his girlfriend, Rhi therefore he travels to Wales to find out more about her. The American student soon needs to realize that his life changed, when his fate entangled with Rhi’s. She came from an alternative world where magic exists, which means a bunch of creatures, dragons and exciting actions. A fast paced book filled with dragons, magic, romance and much more.

Thank you NetGalley for the copy.

Dragons, magic, betrayal, romance what more could you want in a book. This story had me hooked from the beginning. Although not really full bodied dragons in the book the story around them and the magic used was enough to hold my interest. Although I found Austin to be a bit weak he did come though in the end. The story around Rihana was unique (to me anyway) and I wanted to keep turning the pages to see how it turned out.
Cannot wait for the next book

This novel is a science fiction and fantasy. It's about a grad student, Austin, who finds himself on the Welsh coast after his girlfriend's death. From there on Austin begins to have a stalker and voices in his head. This novel was absolutely riveting and exciting. There was magic, dragons, and suspense. It was very interesting to read through the POV of a male since I generally read from females perspectives.

What if our mythical creatures were from another world? What if they were trapped and trying to get back?
This is about Austin, who travels from America to Wales in tribute to his late girlfriend and finds out that before she met him she was from another world and now he's unwittingly gotten himself tangled up with magic and dragons and other creatures who are trapped here and who will stop at nothing to go back to the place where they were discarded from.
I couldn't put this book down from a chapter one- it has everything, love, magic, dragons and an epic battle to save the world.
This book is a fast-paced, gripping ride where the author allows you to know the back story without lengthy explanations or descriptions and has plenty of twists and turns without straying too far from the plot and leaves you longing for more.

A Memory Of Dragons by Michael G Munz I gave three stars. The book hooked me in right away about a few pages in with an intricate complex story. Austin an American Student who is working to get his PHD in physics is visiting certain places where his girlfriend Rhianon went to before she was killed in a car crash. On this memorial trip Austin actually finds out a lot about his dearly departed girlfriend. She didn't actually remember anything about her past because she had a form of amnesia.
He had a crystal pendent from her that everyone seems to be after? She is actually from a planet that exists with ours called Rhyll kind of like an Alt universe. Well he ends up meeting some odd people such as a girl who stole his pendent called Corinna but it get's a little more complicated. It becomes a wild trip which involves dragons, evil wizards and spriggins and more. Ever the scientific mind Austin is very doubtful. This ending was amazing, which makes me suspect this is not a standalone book. ( IT also totally caught me by surprise and made me tear a bit)

This is a case of "it's not you, it's me". I blame it on the current global situation that I couldn't focus enough to enjoy this story.
Austin's journey is a new type of fantasy, for me at least, interesting, action packed and unpredictable.

3 stars!

Memory of Dragons was such a refreshing way back into the fantasy genre.

The story crafted is easy to follow but yet not so simple that it is boring. The novel is set in present day England and Wales which made such a nice change to most fantasy novels. I did have some reservations as to how this setting would work for a story involving magic and dragons but Munz expertly intertwined these two seemingly opposites. It brought the magic and otherworldly aspects to a more recognisable setting which is quite a unique feat.

There is plenty of action throughout this novel. The story is well paced and no parts felt rushed. It felt like all aspects of this had been thoroughly thought through. At point was I bored during this novel and the action was well spaced leaving plenty of room for the story line.

The characters were likeable and each had their own quirks, making them unique to this novel. Personally, however, the concept of this book was the star of the show and I loved the individuality to it. I also liked how well everything was explained and at no point was I confused with the plot or where it was going.

As a fan of romance novels I was hoping for more of a romantic development between Corinna but that is more of a reflection of me as a reader than it is of the book or the author. I just love a love story!

The characters in "Memory of Dragons" weren't as developed as I would have liked. The writing was heavy on dialogue, but didn't have enough description of the character's internal thoughts and emotions. Because of this I had a very difficult time feeling any kind of emotional connection to them.

I also thought that Austin bought into his whole situation way too easily considering his background in science. I feel like that was a conflict that could have been developed and would have made the story more interesting.

I liked the premise of the story, but I felt that the writing wasn't there to support it in the way it could have been.

I think this is an excellent book for those who enjoy both adult and YA fantasy. Munz successfully crafts a nice, easy to follow storyline that hosts elements fans of both genres will appreciate.

Austin, our main character, sets off to Europe to follow the footsteps of his girlfriend Rhi who died a year before. While tracing her path, he sets of on an epic adventure involving magic, dragons, and a sassy barista named Corinna. Austin and Corinna have a great dynamic together. Austin, the more cautious and logical type, is artfully juxtaposed with Corinna, a more carefree heroine. Armed with Rhi’s memory, Corinna helps Austin discover Rhi’s past and the magic surrounding it.

I thoroughly enjoyed this read. Munz’s storytelling isn’t too fast or too slow but has a nice pace throughout the book. The story itself is unique, bringing together fantasy novels about other worlds with our own. I like the characters and their development, although I wish there was more romantic development in the novel (I’m a romantic at heart, what can I say?). The story as includes a hint of mystery, as I found myself questioning who was a friend and who was an enemy the entire time. With plenty of action and magic, Austin’s journey is one that will satisfy all fantasy readers!
