I thought this was such a cute picture book. I felt for the ghost so much. The ghost was made fun by the family for not being clear like them and being able to scare people. This little ghost just wanted to fit in. I love the ending of the book. I think a lot of kids will love to read this book around the Halloween spooky season

This picture book was so cute! I thoroughly enjoyed the story of the little quilt finding a companion in the child who finds them on Halloween night.

A terrific book about being yourself with quaint, homey illustrations. I enjoyed it and my children enjoyed it even more. They like ghosts and I like the message. I have purchased this book for my library.

This (Canadian made) children's picture book is not just for the Hallowe'en season. It's perfect for anytime of year as it's about being different from others.
Our little quilt child is surrounded by family members who are sheets; and so much lighter than he. Instead of being able to fly all around, our quilt has to lay in places, walk about, and find vantage points to lay down to see what's happening. Riel Nason has given us a clever way to explain that everyone is a little different; even if it seems like we are the only one.
The illustrations are perfect. A little haunting but not scary in any way. Instead they have just a bit of melancholy that I think comes from the subdued colours chosen.
I would highly recommend this children's picture book for any child from any walk of life. We all feel singled out or excluded for whatever reason at some point and this book beautifully demonstrates how being different isn't always a bad thing.

I received an ecopy of this book from the publisher. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Once, there was a little ghost who was a quilt instead of a sheet. Because of his thick layers, he couldn't fly as fast or as freely as the ghosts in his family that were sheets, but the little ghost that was a quilt still wanted to see the world and join in, so he did!

The Little Ghost That Was A Quilt is an adorable story about a ghost that doesn't quite fit in. He is saddened by his differences but still yearns to experience the world, especially as his favorite holiday, Halloween, nears! The little ghost's adventures don't always go as planned, but he finds joy in them nevertheless, making this a hopeful story perfect for the autumn season.

I adored the traditional-style illustrations. They have a slightly gloomy look that the bright patchwork ghost that was a quilt stood out on quite well and I especially loved all of the detail in settings, from the unique wood grain to the spooky shadows and spiderwebs!

Ghosts are supposed to be sheets, light as air and able to whirl and twirl and float and soar. But the little ghost who is a quilt can't whirl or twirl at all, and when he flies, he gets very hot.

How can I resist a picture book that combines so many of my favourite things – ghosts, quilts, and Halloween! This charming tale offers a gentle reminder of the importance of valuing what’s different. Our little protagonist is a ghost, but a troubled ghost. Instead of being made of a white sheet like all the other little ghosties, this one is made of a quilt. A heavy, multi-layered, patchworked quilt that makes flying hard – resulting in a ghost who is soon out of breath and struggling to keep up with the other ghosts. That theme of being left is reinforced by one illustration in particular, pf the ghost staring out a round window at a sky filled with skilful ghost fliers. They make fun of his patchwork too. “He wished he was made of just one fabric and not a whole lot of squares sewn together. The other ghosts called him Scrappy, and he didn’t like that.”
As Halloween approaches, the ghosts are all delighted, because they can hide in the trees and look like decorations. Our ghost can’t hide in a tree of course, so he’s typically joined in the festivities by hanging on a clothesline; however, he usually can’t see what’s going on. This year, he tries a new tactic – draping himself on a porch rail. It’s the best view possible! But when a little trick-or-treater finds the night air too chilly, our quilty ghost ends up having an adventure no other quilt could have! The story is delightful, with an easy reading pace that will appeal to youngsters and adult readers. The illustrations are largely in black and white, with our ghost’s patchwork in full various blues and whites. My review copy had black and white illustrations only; I did obtain a couple of galley pages from the publisher to get a better sense of the illustrations. They are beautifully rendered, There is a lot going on in each page, creating lots of opportunity for literacy skill-building while lapsharing. Despite the muted illustrations, the book is suitable for smaller storytime circles – kids should be close enough to be able to see the little ghost and its adventures. Oh, and it’s Canadian. Gotta love it. My thanks to Tundra Books for the advance reading copy, and a couple of e-galleys, provided digitally through NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

The art in this is gorgeous- I love the muted palette, mostly neutral tones, allowing the few brighter colors used (blues, pink, orange) to pop. The soft, pencil-ish style gives a nice retro vibe, and there's lots of detail in the illustrations that adds to the story. Now the story is cute, it has some nice lessons about accepting who you are and it's okay to be different, but I feel there could've been more about how the other ghost tease the little quilt ghost and call him names, like maybe they could've apologized or something. I also feel bad for the mom and the little girl- she's going to be disappointed that the quilt is gone, and the mom is going to freak out when she realizes the quilt has disappeared- was someone in her house, playing creepy tricks on her? I could be reading things into this, but I'd be freaked out! Still, it's a pretty sweet story.

This book was absolutely adorable! I loved how gentle and sweet the artwork was and the story was cute and was able to express that no matter how different we are, we all have something to contribute and all are special and have worth.

Cute, quick read perfect for the autumn season. The only question I had was how was the poor Quilt Ghost going to get the ice cream and chocolate off of him!

4, cute sweet and adorable, stars. Recommended for all little ones, and older ones too!

My thanks to NetGalley and Penguin Random House Canada/Tundra Books for an eARC copy of this book to read and review.

This is another adorable Halloween Story. Ghosts are sheets, right? Well, this little ghost is a quilt, a patchwork quilt which makes him different from his family and friends. He can't keep up with his friends and he will never fit in, so he thinks. The other ghosts tease him and call him "Scrappy". But, on Halloween, he has something happen that would only happen because he is a quilt.

There are several wonderful messages in this book. Of course the obvious one is about teasing and bullying, which my grandson picked up on right away. Then we talked about how everyone is different and that is okay. It is important to be ourselves and learn what we are good at, and not try to be like everyone else. I loved the illustrations with the little ghost being colourful, while the others all blend into the background. The illustrations are wonderful, with small details that add to the story. My granddaughter, who is younger, just enjoyed the story and loved the little ghost. She immediately wrapped herself up in the quilt on her bed. Another winner for our Halloween library.

This was a very cute story with the subject all laid out in the title. This will be a unique new title to add to our Halloween display, which parents will enjoy since it isn't actually spooky. Our Children's Manager also loved it and is writing a staff pick.

This was cute! My 7 year old loves anything “spooky”, so she enjoyed this cute little ghost getting a special adventure. The illustrations were adorable, too. A quick little story about how being different is sometimes hard, and sometimes lets you do something special. Perfect for cuddling up (preferably under a quilt ) for some Fall reading.

I'm definitely going to be reading it the kids in my family.

a sweet picture book about a little ghost made out of a quilt instead of a sheet and how they learn that what makes you different can be what makes you special.

This is a book about a ghost who is a quilt. Did you know that most ghosts are sheets? This makes them light and airy and able to twirl in the air. The little ghost who was a quilt, on the other hand, is heavy due to his layers of fabric. The other ghosts laugh and call him Scrappy. He doesn't like that.

But, one Halloween night, the little ghost who was a quilt ends up having an adventure that only he could have... because of his very nature.

This is pretty amusing. The pictures are cute and the overall premise is adorable.

I'd definitely recommend this one for readers looking for unique Halloween books, as well as those who like books about celebrating unique strengths.

Short, adorable Halloween story about a ghost who learns to appreciate his differences. Really cute, wish it was a bit longer.

"When you're a quilt instead of a sheet, being a ghost is hard! An adorable picture book for fans of Stumpkin and How to Make Friends with a Ghost.

Ghosts are supposed to be sheets, light as air and able to whirl and twirl and float and soar. But the little ghost who is a quilt can't whirl or twirl at all, and when he flies, he gets very hot.

He doesn't know why he's a quilt. His parents are both sheets, and so are all of his friends. (His great-grandmother was a lace curtain, but that doesn't really help cheer him up.) He feels sad and left out when his friends are zooming around and he can't keep up.

But one Halloween, everything changes. The little ghost who was a quilt has an experience that no other ghost could have, an experience that only happens because he's a quilt...and he realizes that it's OK to be different."

If you don't look at that cover and read that description and go awww, I'm sorry, we can never be friends.
