Ludwig is an accomplished author and illustrator. His illustrations in Looking for the lost sheep are engaging, age appropriate, colorful, and compelling. Ludwig’s devotion to his subject is evident from the care, love and attention to detail throughout the publication. The large skillfully painted, vibrant and vivid illustrations would be a draw for any child. The parable of the lost sheep is one of the most memorable for so many Christians because it carries such a powerful message. Tim Ladwig has managed to convey that message in a child friendly way through his masterful illustrative skills.

Overall I believe that it will provide children with a sense of the love that Jesus came to share. Encourage further reading and in this way improve understanding and appreciation of and for Jesus Christ.

It isn’t hard to imagine a mother, father, or a grandparent sharing the word with their children.

Looking for the lost sheep would be a great addition to any home, municipal, or Sunday School Library for children aged 4-7 years.

A familiar bible story loved by many. What makes this one so different and compelling? The illustration as it focuses on key words of the lost sheep. It is part wordless and illustration. The illustration bring you in and the words of Jesus bring it to your heart. As you read this bible story with your children, you can emphasize the meaning of the scripture.

For example. The sheep has been found. It is dramatic and beautiful. The sheep is put on the shoulders. There are no words until you turn the page with the simple words "he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home." It is a simple word picture of how much Jesus loves us. Highly recommend.

Award winning author and illustrator, Tim Ladwig, has beautifully illustrated The Parable of the Lost Sheep. The pictures are vivid and emotive. Children will see the love Jesus has for each individual; for them. He is seeking to find each one.

The book is short and simple. Young children will certainly be able to understand the parable. I believe the story is fitting for ages 2-10. Excellent questions provided at the end of the book will guide your discussion with your child.

Because God’s word accomplishes, it does not return void, I believe this book will transform hearts. Kids need to know they are valuable and God is seeking them. Definitely check this one out.

This is a beautiful book about one of the most moving parables Jesus told, emphasizing the depth of God's love and grace. Hopefully, this book can become a child's treasured possession, reminding him or her of this truth.

The color illustrations are exquisite—of both people and animals. Some illustrators do better at portraying animals than people. Not so here. The layout is pleasing and the text shows clearly when placed with the illustrations. May this story grasp a child’s heart.

That said, there is one thing that concerns us with the illustrations—a matter that most might not notice or consider. And we hesitate to write this because we have so enjoyed the publications of Our Daily Bread over many years.

It’s not big enough matter to cause us to pan the book (far from it)—we still give it five stars and reiterate the fact that the illustrations are beautiful. The issue is subtle. It’s the portrayal of Jewish faces. They are portrayed differently compared to the shepherd (whose hair is lighter and bone structure slightly different than most of the tax collectors, sinners, and religious leaders). Again, it's subtle and some reading this review will likely say we are making a big deal out of nothing.

We don’t know what Jesus looked like. He may have looked exactly like some of the others pictured in the book and not like the shepherd illustration. After all, Isaiah 53:2 states Jesus “had no form or comeliness.” But of course, this is not the focus of the book and beyond the comprehension of young readers.. However, for children who have no regular interactions with Jewish people, stereotypes can ensue.

Super cute book with great message that Jesus cares about everyone straight from the words of the Bible itself. A very timely message for this day and age we are living in. Illustrations are sweet and the shepherd's kindness and love comes across. I also like the scenery, it reminds me very much of where the story would have been set if the parable were real.

Beautifully illustrated to enhance the quoted text of the famous arable from the Bible. The letter to parents at the end of the book is very useful- it can help children understand the meaning important meaning of sheep in today's modern world.

Want a children’s picture story book that you can read concerning Jesus’ parable of the lost sheep? Tim Ladwig has done another excellent children’s book on Jesus’ parables. I was actually excited seeing he has another volume out. Previously I have enjoyed his book on Jesus’ parable of the prodigal son and the Good Samaritan. In this present volume he continues the trend of making good quality children’s book.
The words for the book comes straight from the Bible in the Gospel of Luke. Ladwig is really the illustrator. His artwork is well done. The quality of the artwork done for the cover is representative of the quality of the artwork within the book’s pages; I have to say that since today’s book sometimes doesn’t match what is on its pages compared to what is on its cover. Fortunately this book was done right.
Kids will enjoy the book and parents will appreciate it being biblical and God-focused. I recommend this book!

Another wonderful parable, beautifully illustrated and the simplified biblical text that captures Jesus’ engaging words.
The quality of the book and this enduring story will be a great addition to your own collection or a popular loan from the children’s library. Those adults who attended Sunday School will find the words familiar and the message encouraging. It is the essence of the Christian gospel and this engaging story demonstrates the power of the use of parables.
What I like is that despite its obvious Christian links to the biblical story and the teaching of Jesus this is not an exclusive book promoting Christianity. It shares that message within the patent notes the text and illustrations of the book are designed simply to share a great story.
For a Christian family it provides a reference, and study guide and encouragement. For the non Christian home it shares a story of faith from a great teacher with a message to encourage and inspire.
It was my favourite story in Sunday school and once when acting it out, playing the lost sheep as a 6 year old boy I wondered up the street to our house making the shepherd’s search for the lost sheep very stressful.
This is the best version I have read in my adult life and commend it to all homes with young children.

This isn't a retelling of the parable of the Lost Lamb but rather the making of it into an illustrated story for children and adults alike to be able to enjoy the parable in a visual feast.

For those who like a more richer variation or more in-depth telling this isn't it for the writing is such as that of the Bible where it is simple enough for even young readers to enjoy. The story starts off with Jesus having dinner with sinners and tax collectors while being questioned by the authorities of His day. As such it then goes into the telling of the parable as taken from the Bible.

The illustrations are what sales this book as they tell more than just the story of the Lost Lamb with their rich colors, their beautiful details and their emotional telling. The first clue of this is just before the telling of the parable as Jesus with the sinners is given in color while the authorities plotting against him are given just a bland white background of no importance.

And the illustrations of the Lost Lamb on his escapade and the good Shepherd who goes after him is just as heartwarming. There is warmth to the pictures, emotion that can be read just as easily as the words and such sweet loving compassion that this may become a wonderful bedtime story for your own little ones.

Furthermore there is a page in the back once the story is done that helps parents and other adults who may be reading the book some tips on how to share stores and teach the message to little ones in this charge. Due to this I strongly recommend this book as an addition to Christian libraries.

Ladwig takes the verbatim Bible text of the parable of the lost sheep and complements it with excellent illustrations. A terrific way to introduce young readers to one of the Jesus' most famous stories.

It was shorter than what I expected just because I was so fascinated with the beautiful illustrations and the story, and I was hoping for more. Then, I realised the description has stated that the story is for the specific parable - Luke 15: 1 - 7. Silly me.

The story of finding a single lost sheep and the joy when the lost sheep is found never fails to touch my heart. It’s like a message which keeps reminding us that no matter whatever mistakes we had made, or every time we feel ashamed with our actions, Jesus will always open His arms to welcome us back and forgives us if we sincerely repent. This is a beautifully illustrated story for children to understand such meaningful parable. We have to admit even adults like us sometimes do struggle with the meanings behind for some of the parables in the Bible. I really hope the publisher will create more beautiful illustrated parables for our young readers so that they can understand and love Jesus more.

I remember sitting in Sunday school as a child and having this parable read to the class. Being an animal lover even as a young child, I thought that it only made sense to go back and find the lost sheep. It was after the parable was finished and the teacher really brought it down to our level that I understood. I believe this book is an excellent tool to engage children in learning stories from the Bible and what they truly mean, other than simply being a good story to listen to. I often find myself trying to find better ways to describe the meaning of Bible stories to my nephews, and the use of these types of books are helpful. I love the thought provoking last page of these books to encourage questions and answers from my nephews. It is often difficult in today's world to get children to sit down and learn about their Heavenly Father instead of playing on their gaming systems. With the beautiful illustrations, this book brings the story vividly to life and keeps children engaged.

This story has beautiful illustrates that add to the parable that Jesus taught. With sticking to the words of the biblical story and letting the illustrations do the work, this story will help children learn about how important they are to Christ. Without a doubt, this would be a story I would share with my children to teach them about repentance and forgiveness.
