This book was a bit unexpected and I'm still not sure if it's a good thing or a bad thing. This book did hold my attention while I was reading it, but it won't be one that sticks with me. Some of this was very hot, but then some of it was just not. This debut author does have some talent, it shows in this book. The issue is that I think the story could have used a bit more polish before it was published. She could have also used maybe a beta reader/content editor that is honest enough to point things out to her like the few issues this one had. I will check this author out again, she does have potential.

I recieved an ARC fr0m the publisher via Netgalley in return for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Charlotte Wentworth had a failed season because of Ethan Ridley, Lord Amesbury, who gave her a terrible nickname that followed her throughout. Charlotte retreated to her estate, but now she is back to marry a man of her choosing so she isn't forced to marry the detestable Lord Montague. Life throws Ethan and Charlotte together every chance it gets. Ethan has to prove to Charlotte that he is not the same type of man he was years ago.

I can't believe this book was a debut. Kudos! It was so good. Lottie was a spitfire and she always had a smart retort to Ethan. Ethan was endearing from the way he changed his life because of the guilt he felt for hurting people due to drinking and being a jerk. Their relationship was my favorite part. SO MUCH BANTER. This was a great book and am excited for Cal's story next!

Any Rogue Will Do is the debut novel by Bethany Bennett. It’s an incredible debut that tells the story of two people that get a second chance at love after a damaging incident.

Ethan, Lord Amesbury, made the mistake of ruining Lady Charlotte Wentworth’s reputation when he was younger and dumber. He’s regretted his actions for a while now, so when Charlotte comes to him for help Ethan goes along with her charade. But what is he to do when it doesn’t feel like he’s pretending anymore?

I am such a sucker for historical romances where the heroine has decided to shake off the expectations of society. Though Charlotte may not have intentionally made the decision to ruin her reputation, once it’s done she adapts to the situation in an admirable way. She’s determined to be in charge of her life and so when a man tries to manipulate her into marrying him she takes charge and plots a way out of a bad marriage. It was fun to watch these two fall in love as they pretended to have a relationship for the eyes of the public. A fake relationship is probably one of my favorite tropes.

Bennet’s writing was so engrossing and well-paced it’s hard to believe this is a debut. She crafted characters I wanted to see fall in love and I cannot wait to see further entries in this series. If you’re a fan of authors like Julia Quinn, Tessa Dare, or Lisa Kleypas you will enjoy this book.

4.5 Stars!

Any Rogue Will Do was an amazing read featuring a fantastic fake dating romance with a touch of enemies to lovers.

During her first season, Lady Charlotte Wentworth was the perfect society girl which only led to the ton's mockery. Now, Charlotte plans to find a husband who is happy to live separate lives allowing Charlotte control over her own estate and fortune. But first, she needs to get rid of an unwanted suitor who is trying to force her into an engagement. Her plan? To enter into a fake engagement as the man can't claim to be engaged to someone who is already betrothed. But when her plan leads her to request the help of the man who ruined her reputation all those years ago, Charlotte finds herself questioning everything she thought she wanted.

After her first season, Charlotte retreated from London with the hope to come back the next season better than ever, but then her brother died followed shortly after by her mother. With her father lost in his own grief Charlotte was left to take care of the estate, something she discovered she enjoyed and was good at. I loved that Charlotte found something she wanted in life and set about making it happen, not letting anyone sway her from what she wanted. Ethan wasn't prepared when he inherited his title as he was so far down in the line of heirs that it was never considered a possibility he'd inherit. At first Ethan struggled in his new station, but after stepping back from those who clearly didn't have his best interests at heart, he found what he was good at and focused on that.

Charlotte and Ethan's relationship doesn't get off to a good start in this book as Charlotte harbors a lot of resentment over the way Ethan treated her and how his comments led to her being ostracized by society. But Ethan, as well as Charlotte, have changed a lot since they knew each other several years ago and neither of them is who the other thinks they are. I loved watching these two get to know each other again and seeing how they've changed. Plus once they stop being stuck on the past, their relationship starts to progress wonderfully. Not to mention, the chemistry between them is simply fantastic and I loved the scenes where they got to be alone together. Fake dating is one of my favorite tropes, so I expected to love their romance and I am happy to say that I did. Their banter and openness with each other is wonderful and I was happy with the way they worked through the obstacles to their relationship.

Overall Any Rogue Will Do was a very enjoyable read and I can't wait to read the next book in the series, West End Earl, when it releases next year. I highly recommend this book if you're a fan of the fake dating trope or are just looking for a great historical romance to read.

It has been awhile since I’ve picked up a historical romance and I was really craving one. Any Rogue Will Do is by author Bethany Bennett. This story gives us a fake relationship that is a good, sloooow burn.

Lady Charlotte is on a mission. She has returned to London society to find a husband. That catch? Home girl is NOT looking for love. She spent one Season many years ago in London and she was humiliated by Lord Amesbury, who courted her and then ruined her reputation. She became a laughing stock and has since not set foot in London. Recently, her father has decided that it is now time for her to marry- and he’s chosen what he thinks is a suitable match. Of course, Lottie doesn’t agree and they strike a deal. She can have until the Season starts to find her own husband or she has to marry James Montague.

Hoping to find someone who will leave her alone and live in London (while she runs her family home in the country) Lottie goes to stay with her Godmother in London. Wouldn’t you know it? Her first run in is with the one and only Ethan. Years of pent up anger are unleashed and she gives him a piece of her mind. Feeling guilty about how he treated her all those years ago, Ethan apologizes. As the days and weeks go on, they keep running into each other and strike up a friendship of sorts. Meanwhile, Lottie actually meets and starts to court her betrothed, James. He turns out to be a terrible human. After James tries to force her hand and blackmail her, Lottie turns to Ethan for help and their fake engagement is started. Several things follow including kidnapping, arson
and unexpected chemistry.

This was quite the complex plot that kept me interested the whole time. The chemistry between Ethan and Lottie combined with the constant threat of James was perfection. The only qualm I have with this book is that Ethan is written with a Scottish accent and I didn’t think there was enough consistency in that.

If I’m being completely honest the cover for Any Rogue Will Do caught my eye first, and then when I discovered this was the first book in a new series by a debut author I was all in.

This book was surprisingly an easy read. I kind of expected a little more angst and to be more emotionally engaged with the characters and plot, but that didn’t happen. The two main protagonists have a history and some bad feelings between them before the book opens. I expected their dislike for each other to last a little bit longer than it did. Amesbury, the male lead, quickly apologizes and Charlotte, the female lead, accepts his explanation and quickly moves on. They become friends and partners in a fake engagement scheme after that.

I won’t dive deep into the plot, but it’s one that is seen in a few historical romance novels. Charlotte needs to find a husband to satisfy her father. She prefers one that will let her have control of her estate and live her life separate. I did like that the author went with a different type of hero to pair with Charlotte. Amesbury is a man who inherited the title through a series of deaths in the family and has never really been considered legitimate by his peers. He grew up in a modest home and it took a good, long while for him to acclimate to his new role. He’s not the typical cold, alpha lord of the manor and I liked him.

Their relationship was rather easy, even the conflict at the end is quickly resolved and they find a way to be together.

This was a nice debut from Ms. Bennett. A quick, steamy read for fans of historical romance.

Charlotte's father has told her, find someone to marry or she will have to marry the man of his choice. Once meeting her father's choice, she knows that she must find someone herself. But when her father's choice decides to take the choice out of Charlotte's hands, she decided to make plans of her own. If it is announced that she is already engaged, then she can't be manipulated to marry a man she doesn't want.

Years ago, Ethan ruined Charlotte's reputation. Hoping to make up for it, he steps in to help her avoid the unwanted engagement. Even though he messed up things in the past, what Charlotte doesn't know, is that Ethan still had feelings for Charlotte. Can he earn her forgiveness and her love?

I absolutely adored Charlotte and Ethan's story! I loved that Charlotte was a strong willed woman and willing to do what she needed to do to get her HEA and not bow to her father's wishes. I also love that Ethan realized that what he did so many years ago was wrong and that he wanted to make up for it with Charlotte. I just loved these two together!!

I can't believe that this is the author's first book! It is so well written and I can't wait to read what she comes up with next!

I’m always excited to read a new-to-me author, especially when I’m enjoying a debut novel from an author who will go far if this first book is any indication. Any Rogue Will Do is the beginning of the Misfits of Mayfair series and quickly captured both my interest and my undivided attention. Charlotte and Ethan felt very real, I could easily imagine these events happening to them (for the most part), and watching how their unusual romance would play out was a fascinating adventure.

Years ago, a younger Ethan would find himself a newly-inherited Viscount from a family branch he knew nothing about. To go from a sheep farmer to the land of the ton in London was quite a shell-shocking experience. Of course, it all went to his head and he indulged in all the things he knew better than getting involved with. One changed the life of his friend, the other ruined the reputation of a woman who had done him no harm… but he had done so much damage with a few words carelessly spoken, words neither she nor the ton would easily forget. Once again, Ethan became a changed man overnight. He could not undo the damage he’d done to either his friend or the young woman, but he could walk the straight and narrow from that day onwards. He never thought to run into Charlotte again as he avoids London these days, but a quick trip to the city for estate business will have them crossing paths once again with far different results.

In her first season, Charlotte had been humiliated and essentially ruined by a man she soon came to despise for his words that took away her possible future so carelessly. She retreated to her family’s estate where after her brother’s death, soon followed by their mother’s death Charlotte took control of the estates from her grief-stricken father. It turns out she has a knack for managing things and would have continued without regret if her father hadn’t suddenly set grief aside and proclaimed he was arranging her marriage to an odious, vile person. Charlotte was having none of that, and with her newfound skills sets out to find herself a fake betrothed – for it’s impossible to accept an engagement when one is already spoken for. Her logic seemed perfect until she once again ran into Ethan under the most unusual circumstances. It didn’t make sense, he should be her last choice but Ethan owed Charlotte, he was perfect for her fake relationship, and she was about to set events in motion that she’d be unable to change, nor would want to… eventually.

I adored Ethan, even when he was behaving badly I understood why he was taking such risks. And does this man ever know how to give a proper apology! Charlotte I liked but it took longer for me to warm up to her. Perhaps some of that was how she needed to be portrayed, but I really needed to see some emotional growth from her before I really came into her corner of this story. Watching them, years later, slowly come together was quite the adventure. And talk about adventure – the dangers that will be faced are quite real, and the villain most vile. There is definitely a lot of steam between Charlotte and Ethan, and I’ll admit that was the part that I didn’t really believe for Charlotte’s reactions seemed (to me) unlikely in that time period from a woman who’d never even been kissed. Yet, each reader will view that differently so it’s simply an opinion.

Overall, I enjoyed Any Rogue Will Do very much and look forward to returning to this world again in 2021.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*

Any Rogue Will Do is the first book in the Misfits of Mayfair series by Bethany Bennett. A swoony worthy historical romance that is full of drama and lots of twists and turns. It was so entertaining and witty with the perfect mix of swoon-worthy and sexy mixed in! I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

Lottie is the best.

Lady Charlotte "Lottie" has been in exile from London ton for seven years directly because Viscount Ethan Ridley sullied her good name and character when he was drunk and malicious. Ethan did not even recognize Lottie when they meet again after his failed courtship ended in her ruin and ousting from society. Granted, she was bleeding (did this author dislike her heroine? Kind of seemed like it). Lottie is all kinds of awesome. But she has to marry by the end of the season or marry the guy her father picked out for her.

What I liked? Lottie. She was kind, brash, smart and sassy.
Ethan, I must be honest and say he severely needed to have groveled more. Did he? Nope. Not even. He said one apology and Lottie forgave him overnight after he wrecked her reputation for seven years. I guess he was celibate for the past five, but he had a lot to atone for, none of which he seemed to do at all. His cousin lost his leg because of his drunk carriage race, Lottie was forced to leave society for seven years, everyone but Ethan paid the price for his actions. He's also a mean and vindictive drunk who only sobered up after his cousin lost his leg, yet he's selling ale and runs a brewery.

I enjoyed Lottie, but Ethan was so-so.
Recommend.

Any Rogue Will Do by Bethany Bennet is a delight! This debut album is a great historical romance that pays homage to some favorite tropes in the genre.

Charlotte is in need of a husband so she can get her dowery and property from her father. Lottie goes to London to stay with her godmother and find a man to fit the bill. Lottie is an excellent heroine. She is funny, witty and won’t sit around waiting to be rescued. Lottie believes in second chances, but will she grant one after a Chance meeting with a Scottish, rogue from her past? Ethan is working on building a brewery at his estate and righting past wrongs.

There is action, adventure real depth of emotion and second chances . This story isn’t a second chance romance but it is full of second chances that feel so heart felt. So much witty banter, longing and serious conflict! Parts of this are quickly paced and read like a page-turner. I found myself so agitated putting the book down!!

Highly recommend. Thank you #Netgalley for the Advanced Readers Copy. #anyroguewilldo #bethanybennet

This book was really fun!

Lady Charlotte’s first London season ended in scandal when Lord Amesbury called her the Paper Doll Princess, a lady so proper that she held no opinions of her own. Determined to leave the gossips of the ton behind, Lady Charlotte retreated to her family home and hasn’t returned to London since. That is, until her father tells her she must marry by the end of the year. Forced to find a suitable husband or marry someone of her father’s choosing, Lottie enters into a faux engagement with the very man her ruined her reputation years ago, Lord Amesbury.

I absolutely loved Lottie and Ethan’s dynamic. They’re both stubborn and sassy, both have a great sense of humour and sarcasm. Their chemistry was amazing.

The side characters were really fun, and I can’t wait for Cal’s book!!

I did find that the pacing dropped off around the middle point, but the ending made up for it.

Overall, this was a great debut!

First off, I love the cover. The colors are gorgeous. Since I love second chance stories I was anxious to dive in this story. I loved Ethan and thought he tried really hard to take back his horrible actions from years ago. I also like Lottie to a point. Hell, I even liked Montague at first but beautiful does not make a person good. The story kind of meandered for me and was a bit slow but you know some people like slow and low angst (I call this book low angst). Maybe it was just me and not the story. understand it is the debut book of Bethany and I thought it was a great one.

I received a complimentary copy from the publisher through NetGalley.

I could not put this down! I love a historical romance with action and we get that from the very beginning. I loved their backstory and the groveling Ethan has to do in order to win the Lottie.
I'm looking forward to the next book in this series.

Years before he ruined her reputation. Lottie has never forgotten the humiliation especially when the ton mocked her and spread the nickname he gave her. Now, she returning to London to find a suitable replacement for the unwanted suitor her father has chosen. When that man tries to manipulate her into marriage she turns to Ethan for help.

Ethan, Lord Amesbury, has always regretting ruining Lady Charlotte's reputation. He's older and wiser but his attraction for Lottie has never wavered. So he offers to be her fake fiance in order to stop the other man from announcing an engagement, he's hoping to also win her forgiveness.

Thanks so much to Forever and NetGalley for this ARC

For exactly one season, Lady Charlotte Wentworth played the biddable female the ton expected -- and all it got her was society's mockery and derision. Now she's determined to be in charge of her own future. So when an unwanted suitor tries to manipulate her into an engagement, she has a plan. He can't claim to be her fiancé if she's engaged to someone else. Even if it means asking for help from the last man she would ever marry. Ethan, Viscount Amesbury, made a lot of mistakes, but the one he regrets the most is ruining Lady Charlotte's reputation. Going along with her charade is the least he can do to clean the slate and perhaps earn her forgiveness.
A very well written accomplished debut novel. I thoroughly enjoyed this book even though fake engagement isn't one of my favourite tropes but enemies to lovers is my favourite trope & the mix worked beautifully. The characters were well portrayed & had depth. I really like both Ethan & Charlotte & how their relationship change throughout the book. I look forward to more books by this exciting new author
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

Fall 2020 has gifted me with one too many titles of near-perfection. Bethany Bennett's "Any Rogue Will Do" is an apt addition to this growing collection of spectacular releases. I could not stop grinning from ear to ear while reading!

After a disastrous first season marred by scandal, Lady Charlotte Wentworth - Lottie, for short - must return to London to find a husband against her will. Searching for freedom, she has to push her pride aside and conduct the most ludicrous plan in her life: fake an engagement with her former lover, Ethan, Lord Amesbury.

Ethan, Lord Amesbury, is a Scottish earl who refuses to conform to the rules of the ton. However, fate has other plans when he and Lottie are reunited years later. This reformed rake has never lost his love for Lottie, which causes him to partake in her charade.

Novels that are laden with tropes can be difficult to pull off successfully, but Bennett does it with ease and tact! The beginning is quite slow, as she uses the space to build a picturesque story. Where Bennett's writing shines is through her humor. The witty banter is akin to Tessa Dare and Lisa Kleypas, and I mean that as a high compliment. I had to put my tablet down at times because I was laughing so hard, especially during the scene with Cal and Ethan at the tailor's shop.

When I opened this book, I became instantly obsessed with Lottie and Ethan. As an admirer of enemies to lovers, they ticked all of my boxes. From helping Lottie get to safety to even agreeing to be friends with her, Ethan's silent repentance by his actions warmed my heart. He is my favorite type of hero: the reformed rake who learned his lesson before the novel's events. Seeing Lottie break down her walls, which were rightfully erected, sent an intense pang to my chest. The way that they slowly grew together was beautifully executed; it felt like I was watching two real people fall in love all over again.

If "Any Rogue Will Do" is any indication, Bethany Bennett is a force to be reckoned with; I want to be a part of that journey.

Any Rogue Will Do by Bethany Bennett, book one in her Misfits of Mayfair series, is a second chance story between Lady Charlotte “Lottie” Wentworth and Ethan, Viscount Amesbury. The season Lottie came out was a disaster. She attempted to play the obedient lady the ton expected but all it got her was society’s ridicule and scorn. Ethan was rebuffed when he asked her father if he could call on Lottie; afterward, drunk, he called her a paper-doll princess. It had been a few years and now she is determined to take charge of her future. Lottie returns to London in search of an in name only husband. When an unwanted suitor refuses to accept Lottie’s no for an answer and attempts to manipulate her into an engagement, she creates a plan; asking Ethan to be her fake fiancé. Ethan has always regretted ruining Lady Charlotte’s reputation and makes sure to apologize to her; asking not just her forgiveness but for a clean slate to start over. So when Lottie asks him, Ethan has no qualms playing her fiancé. As these two spend time together, they not only set the sheet aflame, but create fireworks with the chemistry and electricity they share. I really liked these two characters and was amazed at the strength and perseverance they possessed in dealing with adversity. I also admired that they emulated kindness and understanding towards those in lower positions than themselves.

Ms. Bennett wrote an emotional, second chance story that is not to be missed. She provided a tale rich with sizzling chemistry, intelligent banter, and the amazing characters who assisted Lottie and Ethan in discovering their love for each other and the possibility of a future together. I highly recommend Any Rogue Will Do to other readers and look forward to the next book in the series.

After a scandal and horrible first run of the season, Charlotte aka Lottie went home to help the estate and ran it until her father decided it was time for her to marry- she has until the new season to find a husband. In walks or more like she rides her horse to Lord Amesbury aka Ethan who was the one that destroyed her first season. Ethan asks for forgiveness and is book boyfriend material, with his down to earth ways, love for helping people, and sexy steamy ways. This had open and closed door steam!

Loved the characters- Lottie is head strong - sometimes too strong but it saves her in the end. Loved the godmother for helping work her magic with Lottie as well. Can't wait to see more of the characters get some HEA as well. The flow was off in a couple places but one you get into it - you can't stop! This is a wonderful debut and can't wait to read no only more of this series but more books by this author.

Overall, 3.5 stars and 4 steam

I received an ARC of this book to read through NetGalley. All opinions are my own. Any Rogue Will Do by Bethany Bennett is the first book in what looks to be a delightful new series, Misfits of Mayfair. Several years ago, Lady Charlotte Wentworth had an unsuccessful season when Viscount Amesbury called her the Paper Doll Princess, and the name spread throughout the ton, making her a laughingstock. She had intended to return to the marriage mart, but first, her brother died, then her mother died, and her father retreated in his grief, leaving Charlotte to manage the estate on her own. Her father’s announcement that he’s made a match for her has Charlotte up in arms as she has no intention of marrying a stranger and she has till the end of the season to find her own match. A chance encounter with her nemesis Ethan Ridley, Viscount Amesbury, in which he offers her a sincere apology leads to further encounters, and he offers to help her when it appears that the gentleman her father has chosen doesn’t seem to understand that she’s not interested in him. I love a good enemies to lovers, and fake relationship story, and this one delivers on both fronts with a delightfully feisty heroine, a hero who’s both kind and dashing and a nasty villain. I enjoyed reading this book do recommend it. Steam Level: Medium.
