Jann is open, honest and raw and at the same time very entertaining. Her insights into a life lived and her exploration of self makes for interesting and thought provoking reading. She has a unique knack of making the everyday purposeful and mixes all of her writing with just the right amount of humour.

I am sorry for my late review. Because I was late to the game with reading this book I did it as an audiobook but I didn’t want to let my chance of giving a review go by. This book dealt with some raw emotions and feelings and it was a great listen.. I have always loved Jann’s honesty in her books and social media posts and this book was no different. She is also quite funny and while this book had that in it, I also had to get my mind into the serious side of it
Jann is an author for me that I will always read. She is a straight shooter and I love her openness

Inspiring, heartwarming and humorous memoir from a favorite Canadian artist. Jann imparts insightful wisdom on coming into our own as women. A must-read for Jann Arden fans and for all women in general.

Thank Jann for another book.

This was honest, revealing and also funny., just like Ms. Arden. And I’m sure it wasn’t the easiest to write as it looks back on one’s life with the perspective of wisdom, maturity and having lived through some tough times. Examining life and doing so with honesty and forgiveness and many good quotes and things to think about along the way this was a very enjoyable read.

I just love Jann Arden. This book really reveals a lot more into her life. I highly recommend this book if you love Jann Arden as much as me

If you are a fan of Jann Arden, whether it’s her music, her Facebook page or her other books, you’ll feel right at home reading her latest book.

Arden looks at her life, her family, her career and her relationship with alcohol through the introspective and retrospective lenses that comes with ageing. Her signature sense of humor and honesty permeate the pages as we learn how she has come to not only like, but also love herself.

Canada’s ‘Darling’ is a down-home girl who has learned to live her life on her own terms. Thankfully for her fans she is a Crone that shares.

The title IF I KNEW THEN with the subtitle FINDING WISDOM AND FAILURE IN THE POWER IN AGING pretty much sums up Jann Arden’s message. It is an honest and thoughtful book. Jann does not go into the nitty gritty of her mistakes and missteps but she freely admits to have issues with alcohol. Also her relationship with her late father is an issue she continues to battle. She was blessed with a loving and protective mother who she loves and misses deeply. The part I liked best is about the book was Jann’s view on aging. It is something she not only has accepted but embraces it.
IF I KNEW THEN is a short read with a powerful and positive message.
Highly recommended.
Thank you to Penguin Random House Canada for the opportunity to read an advanced digital copy.

This book was awesome! I love Jann's sense of humour and I enjoyed every minute of this book. This book included stories throughout Jann's life including how she became a musician. I loved this book and highly recommend it to everyone!!! Now I need to go and read Feeding My Mother, another book for the TBR.

Thank you NetGalley for the DRC.

As a long-time fan of Jann Arden, I am always there for whatever she wants to share with the world, be it music, books or her posts on social media. Her words resonate with me and have helped me through tough times more than once. In this book she talks about growing older, losing parents, the experience of being a woman and also the universal experience of being a good human. If I Knew Then: Finding Wisdom in Failure and Power in Aging is poignant, funny and also the first book I’ve read that was written during our current pandemic, so she touches on that experience as well. Jann Arden tells it like it is, and she doesn’t shy away from any of the nitty gritty stuff of life! I will be buying a hard copy of this book for myself and will also be gifting it to others.

Thank you to Netgalley, Penguin Random House Canada and Jann Arden for an egalley of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The books starts of with a discussion on death, and aging. The discussion revolves around aging which is actually very empowering and positive. Her perspective is a great way of looking at age. I really enjoyed the way she wrote the book the is authenticity and honestly to it which makes you feel like you really get to know and understand her. I felt that there were sections in her writing that were so eloquently put that I wanted to write down the quotes and keep them for myself because they so beautifly written. I would encourage you to read this book even if you aren't a fan. Any woman in their 40s and older would really enjoy this gem.

I have a love/hate relationshiip with Jann Arden. She is really funny, but also very insightful to the point where it makes me feel uncomfortable.

This book was both engrossing and difficult to read. She is petty much at the same place in her life as I am and its hard to read what she is living (the death of her mom), etc. This book made me feel combative and scared at the same time- wanting to yell out to Arden "no, life is easier than what you say", so itwas quite the experience to read this book

I cannot say too many good things about this book! A beautiful piece of work by Jann Arden. Arden is a masterful storyteller - mixing personal anecdotes with kick butt advice for all women to let go and celebrate their own unique souls. This book deserves much praise. Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the electronic advanced readers copy of If I knew Then.

Full Disclosure: I was given an advanced copy from NetGalley for my honest. Here it is: after reading this treasure, I want to buy a hard copy. It is that dear.

As I sunk into the first pages, I began to wonder if this is like being in the audience for Jann’s concerts. Remeber those days?

Jann is Canada’s big sister who doesn't hold back in her words and her heart. She shares the secrets and gems she has learned along the way with family, work and being a late bloomer.

Find out what a ‘preachy preacherson’ is and more. You will be grateful you did, I know I am.

Thank you, Jann.

I received an ARC of this book to read through NetGalley. All opinions are my own. If I Knew Then is a book by Jann Arden on the topic of ageing and embracing your inner crone. I’ve enjoyed listening to Jann Arden’s music for many years and first became acquainted with her writing through her Facebook posts about coping with her mother’s progression into dementia. Heartfelt and honest these posts are like a light to me as at the same time my son’s beloved grandmother was going through a similar journey. This book is about accepting the ageing process and learning to enjoy life without all the negative expectations and doubts we put on ourselves as we grow towards middle age. Acceptance and celebration of who we are, where we have been, and why that makes us who we are now is the theme of this book and it came to me just when I needed to hear this wisdom. A very conversational read, full of titbits of wisdom. This is a quick read that should be given to your girlfriends on their 40th birthdays....to prepare them for the best is yet to come. There is a line in the book about the gift of being wiser comes from growing older. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC.

Jann Arden is a Canadian singer, songwriter, author and TV star. Her previous book "Feeding My Mother" was a national best seller. This new one is a memoir about aging. She talks about the joy of becoming a 'crone', which to her is an aging woman who is happy with herself and has stopped worrying so much about pleasing people. She talks about her mother and grandmother and the fact that she did like her father very much. This is a short read that is both funny and wise and a good recommendation for women of any age, but especially for those middle age and older readers.

Thank you Netgalley and Random House Canada for the chance to read Jann Arden's If I knew then : finding wisdom in failure and power in aging. I have been a fan of Jann's for ages, and have always loved her sense of humour, and her music. What I had no idea was how much of her anecdotes from her childhood would remind me of my own, and her views of aging and death would be so close to my own.; from the first quote of the book..."a Crone is kick-ass, take-no-prisoners, damn-the-torpedoes, own-your-crap, great kind person to be" Jann holds nothing back, with stories of her mother, grandmother, and her father, who made her life miserable with his drinking. This is a book of quick anecdotes, some humorous, some painful, but all definitely Jann, with small drawings throughout, I really enjoyed it.

What wonderful, uplifting storytelling by Jann Arden. As beautiful as her music. She recounts many stories of her younger self. She is much more comfortable with herself now, having learned from the errors in her earlier years. She wouldn’t be who she is without all of her experiences, good and bad.
What a wonderful read!

Thanks to NetGalley and Random House Canada for a Digital ARC.

I requested this book a while ago but didn't think I'd get it. As soon as I was approved it I read it. Jann Arden has such beautiful writing. This book made me laugh and cry. This book will definitely resonate with anyone in their late 40s and up. She shares her personal stories no matter how difficult and how aging has changed her views on life. Any Jann Arden fan would love this book regardless of age though. I already preordered it.

If I Knew Then by Jann Arden is a truly wonderful, uplifting read that explores the wisdom that comes with aging and, primarily, the power to finally let resentments and insecurities go. Told in her trademark warm and conversational style, Jann shares some very personal stories from her own life, and ruminates on the time that was spent hiding her truest self from the world. At the age of fifty-seven, she is savouring life in a new, more grateful way, and claims that she has never felt better. Hers are truly inspiring words about embracing our collective years, rather than lamenting another candle on the cake.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Penguin Random House Canada for the opportunity to read this ARC.
