There needs to be a reckoning with the truth.

Emma Grant's secret of twenty years is resurfacing with a sinister note. She is not the same girl all those years ago and she was given an opportunity to redeem her sins. She now lives in Southern California with her author husband and his daughter. She is a well liked school counselor that cares about her students and the community she is in. Her husband Ben is recovering from the loss of his wife who was killed in a car accident. They both were drawn to each other for different reasons. Emma was drawn to Ben for his writing and how he understood the victims of crimes but also the perpetrator. Not only the note on Emma's car but the possibility of Ben going to a small town in Canada to write about the murder of a family twenty years ago that was committed by 3 young girls that have been given new identities. Ben knows to get to the bones of what really happened, he must find the girls that committed the crime.

I was at the edge of my seat with this one. The narration goes back and forth with the present and the past. There is tension with Emma for she has carefully rebuilt her life with a new family only to have it destroyed. She must find out who is leaving the threating notes and why. She also is fearful for the safety of her husband and step daughter. She struggles with telling the truth and when she can. It is a race against time. Another aspect of this is you are not really sure what happened that night of terror. You know the results but how did it get out of control. The author also kept the new identities of the girls as a climax to the end. What had happened to each girl and what each emotional baggage each girl carried. It was very good.

A special thank you to Harlequin and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review

Their Last Secret by Rick Mofina is the story of three disadvantaged teenaged girls from the small town of Eternity, Manitoba, whose unhealthy friendship leads them to commit a horrible and heinous crime. Twenty years later, the girls have served their time and have scattered, with new identities, to separate destinations. Emma Grant has turned up in California and has turned her life around. She is happily married to a true-crime author, is the stepmother of a teenage girl, and is working as a high school counsellor. Life is good until an anonymous note appears on her car’s windshield. Then her husband takes on a new book assignment and unknowingly begins to investigate the Manitoba crime committed twenty years ago. Living in fear of her past being found out, Emma’s charmed life is about to implode and she is helpless to prevent it. As usual, a Rick Mofina thriller does not disappoint. The pace is relentless and the characters fascinating. The story feels like it was pulled from the headlines and what if it was? Highly recommend. Thank you to Harlequin and NetGalley for the e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This guy.....he just NEVER disappoints me! Some of his books, I like better than others, but they are ALWAYS good reads! Their Last Secret is no different. 20 years ago Janie, babysits for a family. Said family is robbed and murdered. Janie and her friends are arrested, charged, serve and are let out with different identities. 20 years later, Emma has a perfect life.....or does she? What really happened that night? Were the girls guilty? This is a fast, suspenseful read and Rick Mofina definitely pulls it all off yet AGAIN!!

I enjoyed this book. This is not my first book by this author but it is one of my favorites. This book is full of action and suspense. I found this book to be fast paced and easy to read. This is a well developed story that has characters I had no problem connecting with. They made the story feel real for me and kept me turning pages. The twists and turns were great as they kept me on the edge of my seat. Emma has a perfect life or so she thinks. What will happen when things start to tumble down for her? How far will she go to save it? She made a really great character and is one of my favorites of the story. She kept the story going for me. This made a great afternoon read and I highly recommend it.

Thank you to Netgalley, the publishing house and the author for the opportunity to read a complimentary advance reader copy of this book in return for a review based upon my honest opinion.

This author always writes a good thriller. Easy to follow but complex stories, lots of twists and turns that kept me reading long into the night.

This story goes back and forth between the present with Emma who is leading a good life with her true crime author husband and his teen daughter. She has a good job as a counsellor with the local high school. In the past we follow three young girls who create a blood pact and commit an unforgivable crime that rocks their whole community. As we follow the story it become apparent that Emma is one of the girls. Kayla, the step-daughter, feels there is something off with Emma and tries to figure out what it is. Emma’s husband, is also looking for a new story and decides on a 20 year old murder case that hits too close to home for Emma.

A great summer read, that will keep you on the edge of your seat as you try to keep ahead of the characters. Love Rick Mofina and his books, this one is a must read.

Another winner by Rick Mofina!
The story focuses on the grisly murders of a family of four, twenty years ago, committed by three 14 yr old girls. All three are sent to prison to serve out their sentence. Upon their release their names have been changed and their court records have been sealed.
Will their pasts come back to haunt them?
What really happened that tragic night twenty years ago?
Some mistakes can never be forgotten - or forgiven.
In typical Mofina style he gives us a unique, suspenseful, and fast-paced thriller that I highly recommend!

Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin - Trade Publishing/MIRA for an arc of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

This thriller was a great read, as it focused on a crime committed by teens 20 years ago. Now, Emma wants to make sure that their secret stays hidden. I found myself immersed in this one and couldn't put it down until I got to the end because I kept wanting to know what was going to happen next.

Dark and twisty and full of tense suspense Rick Mofina has kept me up way past my bedtime unable to stop reading. In his latest winner of a book he has plenty of twists and turns to give you whiplash. Pick up his latest winner. He doesn't ever disappoint. Happy reading!

Loved it!! This book was definitely different than the author's previous books, where someone gets kidnapped and the whole book is spent trying to find the missing child. Teenage girls can be little demons with huge attitudes, but these girls took it to the extreme. Janie, Nikki and Marie were scary. I kept forgetting that these girls were only FOURTEEN! The Tullock murders were gruesome and it's hard to believe who was behind everything. Torrie was just as crazy as the "Skull Sisters." I can't imagine someone spending all their time and energy and not to mention tons of money, tormenting people. I figured out who the new identities of the girls were and unfortunately not all of them were reformed. The ending was definitely not what I expected and I wished it would have turned out different.

Definitely recommend the book. It's a great mystery/thriller with lots of twists and turns. I loved the character (even though most of them were scary/crazy), the story and writing style. Look forward to reading more books by the author.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from HARLEQUIN – Trade Publishing (U.S. & Canada) through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

"Soon it will be 20 years. Your day of reckoning is coming."

This is a terrific suspense/psychological thriller about a horrific crime twenty years ago in which an entire family was slaughtered.

The story stretches from Canada to southern California and points in between. The story centers on one family - a mother, father and stepdaughter. As the story progresses, more and more is revealed about the past crime and about present characters.

This was a suspense filled, very twisty story and I enjoyed every bit of it. I would have rated it 4 1/2 stars if I could have. This is just one of many of author Rick Mofina's books I've read and I have found them all (if memory serves me correctly) to be unique, twisty, suspenseful, fast moving thrillers.

I received this book from MIRA Books through Net Galley and Edelweiss in the hopes that I would read it and leave an unbiased review.

Janie, Nikki and Marie (the "Skull Sisters") were fourteen and living in Eternity, a small town in Manitoba. Janie regularly babysat for the Tullocks and, though they were wealthy, they always shortchanged her when it came to paying her. One night while the Tullocks were out of town, the girls decided to break into their house and steal some money so Janie could have what was owed to her. The family came home unexpectedly and by the end of the night, the family of four were brutally murdered. It didn't take the police long to realize that Janie, Nikki and Marie did it and they were sentenced to prison. When they were released to start a new life, their names were changed and their records buried since they had been minors.

Twenty years later, we meet Emma who is a school counselor in California. She is married to Ben, a successful crime writer, and stepmother to Kayla. Suddenly there are notes left on her windshield and she suspects she is being followed and she'll do anything to keep her secret past hidden.

I've read a few books by this author and liked this one ... until I got to the end. I didn't like the ending and thought it should have gone a different way. I liked the writing style and it is written in third personal perspective with the focus on wherever the action is. It jumps back and forth in time, which is noted at the beginning of the chapters so you know where and when it is.

4.75 Hearts WOW What a read. This reminds me of the original writings I read of Mofina when I first stumbled upon him.

Some things we do as kids are best forgotten but what if our past finds us? That is the concept of this book.
Emma has a past but when her husband wants to write a story about what happened all those years ago, not having a clue it involves his wife, secrets are revealed.

This story takes you in a whirlwind of emotions, including disdain for Emma’s husband.

Not a book to be missed by Mofina. Can’t wait for the next one!

A suspenseful and thrilling book that kept me up reading way past bedtime.

Can you truly escape your past or will it come back to haunt you with devastating consequences?
A well written novel with some great twists that kept me wondering what was going to happen next and showed that the past really can't be buried. An enjoyable read with a surprising ending.

Rick Mofina is one of my favorite authors when it comes to thrillers and suspense. Every book he writes, leaves me wanting more. I've read all his work and this one might be my favorite. You dont know who the main character is, which I thought, was a great twist. Another fantastic book.

I discovered Rick Mofina about a year ago I've read all his books and loved them. This was no exception! Three teenage girls are involved in murdering the family one of them babysits for. They get out of prison. And change their names. The book goes back and forth between past and present so you don't know which girl as a grown-up is the main character, Emma. A real page turner trying to figure out which girl was responsible for the murders and what happened that night 20 years ago. Also her husband is a true crime writer who is researching the murders for his next book and she's afraid he'll discover who she really is.
