Love Jay Crownover and loved this series so was excited to finally get this story. I really liked Shot, even though he turned out to be nothing like I thought he would be. I've read a number of motorcycle club romances and am used to the heroes being very possessive, way overprotective and grumpy. I just wanted Shot to hug me and tell me everything would be fine. He was exactly what Presley needed to start being confident in herself and being able to face her nemesis face to face. I really liked Presley's growth throughout the story as well. Finally being able to connect with her new family and have her terror end. I liked them together but at times I wanted just something more. Maybe more angst or tension. I will read anything by this author and love recommending this series. |
I’m a big fan of Jay Crownover and have read many of her books, so I was thrilled to get a chance to read Blacklisted, the third book in the Loveless, Texas series. I could read The Saints of Denver series over and over again. Unfortunately, this one just didn’t work as well for me. It was still a good entry in her usual trope of good girl falls for bad boy, even though it felt like something was missing. Perhaps it is a possibility that I am growing away from these types of stories. With that said, I did enjoy learning more about Shot, his background, and what made him tick. As a lover of bad boys, I relished seeing his realization that a woman was bringing him to his knees. He didn’t come off as a jerk as many of the main characters do, which probably isn’t realistic, but it is good escapism. I also was pleased to see Presley come out of her shell and come into her own. I gave this book three stars, and my sincere thanks go to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book. I very much look forward to Jay’s next book. |
This is my first book by Jay Crownover and it will not be my last. Actually since "Blacklisted" is the 4th book in the series (counting book # 0.5 also), I am going to read the first three books now. "Blacklisted" mentioned the characters from the first three books and this book did fine as a standalone book, but now I want to read the stories of the side characters. A female medical examiner, Dr. Presley Baskin, is trying to escape her life. Her work life has gone to hell and the only person she ever loved, her mom, has recently died. She feels she is suffocating in her life and she needs a change. She recently (in the previous books) discovered she has an entire family of step-siblings in a small Texas town, so she moved there and rented a one bedroom apartment. One night her step-sister, Kody (who owns and manages the only bar in town), calls her and frantically asks her to bring her medical bag to the bar because someone needs her help. The patient refuses to let paramedics be called so Presley already feels it is a sketchy situation. But she goes anyway and meets Shot for the fist time. Shot is the president of the local biker club. He is dangerous and nothing like Presley usually dates. Shot has killed people; he has power; her step-brothers despise him and have basically blacklisted him from anything to do with their family. And Kody has slept with him. But Presley feels an overwhelming desire to always have him near - and he feels the same for her. To watch these two dance around the relationship issue when neither has ever been in a serious relationship is actually sweet. I loved the writing of this book - which is another reason I really want to read the earlier books also. Read this one - you'll enjoy it! I was provided an ARC in exchange for an honest review. The opinions stated above are mine without biases. |

Palmer “Shot” Caldwell, the Loveless local neighborhood, rough and tough MC prez, has always been his own man and lives by his own set of rules.. Yeah, “don’t fence me in” is a likely tattoo you’d see on this smoking hot, bad boy, former military, mountain of muscle manly man, right along with his club’s leather jacket. He also unapologetically has his own ideas of justice and how to dish it out, folks. Usually starting with his fists. But we all know fate and love can have a warped sense of humor sometimes. Who would have thought pretty, timid, insecure, skittish as a baby deer lost in the woods, tries to always follow the rules, damsel in distress, Dr. Presley Baskin would press all his right buttons and sweep him off his MC black leather boots. Yeah, she seemed to be just what the doctor ordered, starting from treating his bullet wounds to stealing his unsuspecting heart. Shot stole the show for me with his alpha protectiveness, good looks, smoldering smile, and the fact nobody messes with his woman or his club and gets away with it. Hmm...Hmm...Hmm. I don’t think I need to say more. Surely that says it all. Lawdy, this guy’s gonna stay with me longer after I’ve put this book down. Presley, well, what can I say? I’d preferred she’d been scripted more his equal. I’m just not personally a big fan of such an insecure, weak personality, victim of circumstances heroine. Shot deserved a lioness not a mouse, if you ask me. This wasn’t my romantic tale rodeo, of course, so I just had to roll with that aspect. You may or may not take issue with the fact Presley’s now very close half-sister, Kody, was a past notch on Shot’s no strings attached, good time for a few hours, smex belt. Yeah, they used to do the deed on occasion when the mood struck. If Shot hadn’t felt he owed a favor to Presley, I’m not sure she’d ever gotten a second glance from him though, despite looking a lot like Kody. There were loads of time spent here on mental back and forth, self confessing, contemplative monologues and person to person talks of feelings. For a bad boy biker, Shot definitely showed a softer, even sappier side than I expected. Along with Presley’s constant insecurities and scaredy cat personality, this damsel in distress did come across defenseless and would have been doomed without him and her newly found band of brothers at her back. I reluctantly have to admit the person revealed to be Presley’s evil villain in the previous book, which continues to play out here, seemed rather out there for me. Not surprisingly, it wraps up here in a drawn out time table until deadly drama near the end settles it once and for all. Regardless, as always, I tend to enjoy trips to Loveless, Texas. I highly suspect this is our last one though. Unless maybe...just maybe...Top Hat, Shot’s VP, is next in line to find love in this small town, where trouble tends to come a knocking, setting. I’d be down for that, my fellow romance book loving friends. Book .5 - Unbroken Book 1 - Justified Book 2 - Unforgiven Book 3 - Blacklisted Title: Blacklisted, Series: Loveless, Texas (Book 3), Author: Jay Crownover, Pages: 285, pub date: 10/27/20, stand-alone but part of on-going series, Motorcycle Club Prez hero, insecure, timid, skittish, medical examiner doctor heroine, a couple VERY graphic smex scenes, some violence, no OM/OW drama, no cheating, no love triangle. (I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I was not given any payment or compensation for this review. I’ve been impatiently waiting for Shot and Paisley’s story since I finished the last book in this series. This book kept me engaged but it’s definitely OOT. There’s some suspense and a lot of heat. Ultimately, this is the type of story that can only exist in a romance novel. These two don’t make any sense together and if not for the sunshine and rainbows that is the romancelandia, this couple would not have had a HEA. I definitely liked this story a lot but the completely unrealistic ending kept me from loving it as much as I expected to. |
"...while I might live in a place called Loveless, I didn't actually have to live a life that was loveless." I've been looking forward to this one more than the others because... Shot . Badass biker, president of the Sons of Sorrow motorcycle club. Enough said, right? I was worried my expectations might be too high, but that was not the case. He's everything and more than I hoped for. Presley is a reserved and quiet nerdy girl. The exact opposite of what you'd expect to attract an outlaw, right? But, they didn't meet under normal circumstances. They were thrown together by chance and once that happened there was no turning back. She saved his life, and now he owes her. At least that's what he keeps telling himself. That must be why he can't stay away from her, right? Let me tell you, waiting for those two to finally give in to the pull and allow themselves to do more than think about touching gave me a few more gray hairs. I could feel the heat and it wasn't a hot flash. The chemistry between Shot and Pres was explosive. I enjoyed every second of the ride. I bet you are wondering like I was, why is the book is called Blacklisted? I wish I could tell you, but what would be the fun in that? You need to experience it for yourselves. So good...sigh. ♡ |

I am such a huge huge Jay Crownover fan. Her writing captivates me like no other. This book was no different. I just wanted to know more more more with every page. This story sucked me in right away!!! The chemistry is off the charts! I would definitely recommend reading the first books in the series to get a better overall picture of the characters back story. |
4.5 stars! I adored the first book from this series and the second. I haven’t read the third but I wasn’t lost in the storyline since I’ve met the Lawtons, a family fierce and strong who had each other’s back no matter what. Now they’re adding a new member, a sister they didn’t know about and who seems to be in deep trouble, that never ceased to leave her anywhere she went. When Presley helped Shot Caldwell, the president of a MC, little did she know that it would change their lives. So different in so many levels, but opposites did attract and they were going to prove that. An undeniable and strong bond has been created since their first encounter and the biker wasn’t able to stay away. Presley used to be focused on her job and taking care of her mother, she didn’t know how to react or to be with the nosy and overprotective new family. For someone who didn’t know how to rely on someone she would have a bunch of brothers and a sister behind her. She seemed to be out of place in Loveless, trying to frame the person responsible for her mother’s death and all the trouble she has caused. She wasn’t safe and felt the vice tighten around her. Shot Caldwell has always been seen as the bad boy and tattooed dangerous man, as the president of Son of Sorrow,a man of honor, loyal to his brothers and also flirting a lot with the bad side of law. A man who was not accountable to anyone. Never getting attached or feeling the need to be, until Presley came into his life and kept pushing him away. They seemed to owe a lot to each other, saving and helping the other. I found their dynamics interesting, they seemed to be opposites but were definitely not. They had the same sense of loyalty and devotion to their loved ones. Completing the other and not trying to change who they were. Shot’s protectiveness and claiming her were kinda hot and sexy and she would give him a run for his money. I adored them together, building a strong relationship when some people were against it. They were true to themselves. The family was also a huge part of the story. The Lawtons were a tough bunch, love with all their hearts and always with their best interests at heart even if they were sometimes over the top. I found them utterly endearing. I enjoyed this journey, where finding appreciation on the characters' differences, a story about family and friends with a hint of suspense. Shot and Presley’s story moved me and these two made my heart race so many times I lost count. A story that took time to settle the pace, to let the characters explore and feel, with passion and heat, openness and sincere. I was so invested in this story. Compelling, suspenseful and emotional. |
Hands down, Blacklisted, is my favorite Loveless Texas book! I was patiently (or not so patiently) waiting for Shot's book since he was first introduced and it did not disappoint. Jay Crownover brings us an emotion filled opposites attract story about wild biker Shot and quiet steady Presley. Presley prefers to live her life in the slow lane but after more than a few life altering events it's been far from slow. When she decides to draw her nemesis out and reclaim her life she's determined to do it on her own. Shot has other plans, he owes Presley one for saving his life. Yet even after the debt is paid he can't seem to stay away from her and makes it his personal mission to keep her safe. When he tries to solve her problems by doing it the Sheriffs way he might end up putting her at greater risk than he imagined. The first two books in the Loveless, Texas series starred men of the law Blacklist brings us a man from the other side of it. Shot is the president of a motorcycle club but besides it shaping his personality and way of doing things, it doesn't take over the story. It's a story of two opposites balancing each other out. Shot gives Presley the spark she needs to live her life while she soothes the chaos of the world he's a part of. For all that Presley went through and deals with in her job she somehow hasn't let it affect her actual personality. She's sweet and caring but not naive. I loved how independent she was even when she didn't need to be. Shot was the perfect motorcycle book bad boy, tough scary exterior but a soft inside for the right girl. He was perfectly supportive and caring of Presley. I just really loved them together :) and the intimate scenes between them were scorching! This is a case of don't judge a book by the cover, the leading man within its page is wild, tattoo covered and sexy as sin. Blacklisted also contains more than a few nail-biting situations and an intense climax. I felt out of all the books in the series this one felt the most like the Jay Crownover writing that I've always loved. 4.5 |
BL by Jay Crownover, published by Forever Publishing, is book three in her Loveless, Texas Series. This book is the most emotional and heart-wrenching in the whole series. Dr. Presley Baskin just gained a new family, and an old enemy. And there's the prez of a MC who can't stay away from her. This book is a fast paced, action packed masterpiece, outstanding and my absolute favorite in this series. The storyline checks allll the boxes: rough biker - check lawabiding doctor-check opposites attract they say - double check. A fantastic read, I recommend the book, 5 stars. |
Overall - ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Heat - 🔥🔥🔥 Blacklisted is the third novel in Jay Crownover’s Loveless, Texas series. If you have not read the first two novels Justified and Unforgiven check those books out first before you pick up this story. There is an overarching mystery that I think is better served if you read this story in order. This book is about a young doctor, Presley, who’s been absorbed into her newly found family in Loveless, Texas. She’s trying to live a quiet life after some upheaval, but she can’t avoid the chaos that comes from digging a bullet out of Shot Caldwell. Presely doesn’t want to spend time with Shot, but when he’s the only one that can help what’s a girl to do? Jay had been an auto-buy for me for years and these new cowboy romances are rivaling the marked men for my favorite heroes. This is not very heavy on the MC themes even though Shot is a member of an MC but it’s also not a cowboy book. It sits somewhere in the middle, which I very much enjoyed. These two characters should not fit together, but Jay is a master at writing beautiful couples that don’t work on paper. This book definitely has more action than other books by this author, so if you’re not into a little suspense this might not before you. But as a fan of romantic suspense, this was a wonderful balance of steamy love story and intense action. My only minor issue was that there was a lot going on in this book and I wanted more down-time with just Shot and Presely falling in love. But then again I’m just a glutton for Jay’s heroes. |
It was great to return to Loveless, TX and the Lawton family. Although part of a series this story can be read as a standalone book. Presley is learning how it feels to be part of the Lawton family and accepting what that entails. She meets Shot Caldwell and the saying opposites attract starts playing out in real life. The ME and President of a biker gang don't normally operate in the same area. When her half sister Kody calls her for help after a fight in her bar, the two opposites meet. From the start, they click and the non-stop action starts. You'll root for the unlikely couple, the connection for the Lawton siblings, and revenge for the former friend trying to take it all away. A great read and hoping for another story in the series! I received a free ARC eBook from Net Galley and the publisher in exchange for my honest opinions. |
Another amazing book from Jay Crownover! I was so so happy to be given Shot’s story! I was intrigued by him from book 1 in the Loveless series! Shot’s story nothing short of drama! It starts with him needing Dr. Presley’s help from a dangerous wound. Presley feels a spark of attraction between her & Shot by helping to heal him. Presley came to Loveless to meet her half siblings...she’s also on the run from a crazy ex best friends who after her! Shot is a sexy biker and president of the club. Shot believes he owes Presley bc she helped save his life but she just wants him to stop watching over her. Shot is determined to insert himself into Presley’s life while she is determined to push him away! Presley eventually gives in to Shot and his watching. These to are so imperfectly perfect for one another. Presley is the calm to Shot’s storm. They are fired together no doubt! I really loved watching these two find their way to love. The book was the perfect mix of intense, sexy, sweet, & had me not ever wanting to leave Loveless! I wish there were more in this series! I def recommend reading this and the other 2 in this series! It won’t disappoint! |
Reviews by the Wicked Reads Review Team Ruthie – ☆☆☆☆ This is the third (plus book 0.5) book of the series, and continues on from book two, so I would definitely recommend that you read them in order. We had just found out that the Lawton siblings have a half-sister, Presley, and she is somehow involved in the death of their father. Presley is an ME who just got a promotion and suddenly her life isn't just plagued with strange occurrences, but she is in danger. After a few issues, her half siblings rally round to help. What's more, Kody asks for her help in saving Shot, the biker club leader, and so she ends up with him owing her his life. I really enjoyed how these two characters work out the ramifications of this debt – and for sure, she needs all the help she can get, but the inconvenient feelings she has for the man are something that confound her. I really enjoyed catching up with the previous three couples, and seeing how Kody had turned her business around now that Hill is in her life. Plans for Della and Crew's wedding were also fun elements, in what was quite a dark and nasty plot against Presley. It is amusing that Shot, who is hardly a paragon of virtue, turns out to be the light in her life. I have really enjoyed all four of these stories, and can highly recommend reading them all in one go, as they fit perfectly together. Mary Jo – ☆☆☆☆ Good girl meets bad boy. Good girl runs far and fast from bad boy. Bad boy can't stay away from good girl. Good girl finds bad boy irresistible. Isn't this what we all fantasize about? The good girl falling for the bad boy and reforming him to fit in with normal society, keeping just enough of the bad boy to keep us satisfied at home? Too bad that's not Shot Caldwell. It's not that he's terrible, but he does stand with one foot on the wrong side of the law. Meeting Presley Barnes when she has to patch him after being shot isn't the best way to make a good impression on the upstanding and up and coming high profile coroner. Nor does Shot like to be indebted to anyone outside of his club. When trouble finds Presley, Shot gets drawn into the mix by saving her life. Repayment made. Then when trouble continues to find Presley, Shot can't help himself but get involved. While he doesn't want Presley, he doesn't want her hurt – or dead, either. When you take a walk on the wild side in Loveless, there's a good chance you will end up with new family, friends, and a love that you didn't anticipate. Veronica – ☆☆☆☆ Blacklisted is an opposites-attract romance. Some stories like this have the characters clashing while the sparks fly, but I never felt the clash here. They are aware of their differences and work with it. My favorite thing about Blacklisted is the way Presley and Shot affected each other. She is conservative and stable, and it gave Shot a calmness he doesn’t get elsewhere being the president of an MC. On the other hand, Shot is a confident man who lives life his way and doesn’t follow the law, and his outlook on life inspires Presley to come out of her shell and stop hiding away. I love the way they fit together and try to work together because it showed their maturity. Another really good thing about Blacklisted is the action. There are a few different action scenes throughout the story, but there is an early one that really got my heart pumping and is a reminder that Shot is dangerous and ruthless when it comes to going after what he wants. What didn’t work so much for me in Blacklisted was the amount of internal monologues from Presley. It got repetitive and there were times it felt like it wasn’t adding anything to the story repeating things, it was just adding pages to the book. Overall, I had a good time with reading Blacklisted, and I enjoyed Presley and Shot as a couple – 3.5 stars from me. |
This is the third book in the series, and I am wondering if this is one of those series where each book is better than the last! I loved the characters, the action, the mystery...it had a little bit of everything in this story. I have read several books with motorcycle club member heroes, and this is not my first where the hero is the President of said club, so when I say that this man was one to beat, I mean it. Jay Crownover did an amazing job writing a hero who was just outside the edges of the law and still came across as an honorable man. Sure, he definitely breaks the law, but his heart is in the right place. If you're not sure if this book is for you, then ask yourself this - do I like men who treat women right, fight for the safety of their loved ones, and live their life to its fullest? Do I like women who struggle yet persevere, are brave in spite of their fear, and can see the good in others when they don't see it themselves? If the answer is yes, keep on reading. Dr. Presley Baskin has not had a good year. After finding out she is the illegitimate child of Conrad Lawton, meeting his family and discovering siblings she never knew she had, her mother dying, and her best friend trying to kill her, she's just about had it with the drama. Terrified of putting others in danger, she's stayed hidden away, hoping that being out of sight will convince her former friend to move on and stop trying to ruin her life...more than it already is. When her half-sister, Kody, calls her desperate, Presley reluctantly goes to Kody's bar and sees a dying man on the floor covered in blood. Her medical training prompts her to do everything she can to save his life, and now she is owed a debt by none other than Shot Caldwell, the president of Sons of Sorrow motorcycle club. Shot hates owing anyone anything, and he is determined to relieve himself of this unwanted debt. However, when he meets Presley for the first while conscious, he is struck by her strength and bravery. When an attempt is made on her life, it's no longer about a debt being owed - it's about saving a woman who deserves to feel safe again. As they grow closer, his protective instincts become something more, but with a killer on the loose, their romance might be cut short. Presley was a really inspiring character! She was so strong, had done a lot with her life for her family and for others, and it was sad to see how a jealous woman could so upset Presley's accomplishments. The way she stood up for herself to Shot and to other people had me cheering her on, and even when her desire for justice became a little bloody, I still felt she was doing the right thing. Shot was a great character to contrast Presley, as she had this quiet strength while Shot's was quite loud. Having been in the military and then spending his time in the club protecting other people, he was clearly a knight in black leather for Presley, even if she didn't want him to save her. As the story progressed, she saw the benefit to having him there, and getting to know him allowed her to see sides of him that he never let anyone else see. My only issue in this whole book was when he decided to make decisions for her, without bringing her into his plans, which as these things always go, did not end well. I was frustrated, even though I acknowledged that he wasn't alone in his stupidity. Men - what can you do? Overall an entertaining read and one I would recommend to anyone who likes alpha men and strong heroines. Jay Crownover is an author I will definitely continue to read. |
It all starts out with a really great dedication that I loved! It was a great encouragement that its better to stand out than to fit in. But most important, be yourself. There was more but that was the gist of it. When I read that my first thoughts were, ''This sounds promising. I sure hope the story is as good as this dedication!" And I can truthfully say, it was. I really enjoyed the story and think I've found a new- to -me author to follow. I will be looking to read more of her stuff. Both Presley and Shot were compelling main characters who couldn't be more different from each other. Makes you wonder how they could ever be a good fit. Sure, the attraction was there. That was not even a question. But as the story goes on, some interesting similarities crop up that you wouldn't think would. One thing that they do have in common is that they have both been outsiders in society. The reasons are different but it came as a surprise to me when it became clear that they BOTH had been blacklisted in some way. I really liked that and the unpredictability of not only the story but also in both of the M.C.'s. Looking at Presley you see a woman who had no family left and she was used to being a loner. She is someone who has carried a pretty heavy load all on her own for years. That made her independent but also not used to having anyone to lean on. She even owns up to the fact that she doesn't know how. She doesn't know how to do the family thing either. But she's getting a crash course in it when her quiet life explodes with her newly found Lawton family. I think the author did a great job of showing just how jarring that was to Presley. Her half sister Kody played a big part in the story. After awhile she keeps refusing to allow Presley to shut her new family out. Kody had a heart as big as Texas and her personality was just as big too. Shot lived his life by his own rules. It often makes him butt heads with the law. But he does live by his own code of honor. So, I guess that made him a dark hero in the story. Still, he had quite the way with Presley that was surprisingly charming. It made me smile when it came to Shot and Presley doing the "you owe me a favor" (a favor for a favor) game. The two of them do end up heating things in the bedroom but it's not right away, which I also liked. Ashby was quite the villain that you don't have to wonder about. Is she evil or not? Oh, yeah, you know it early on and her manipulations and hateful actions just keep being revealed. Her hatred for Presley runs long and hard and without any limits. It made me wonder when and how she would get caught. The twists and turns in the story kept me involved and often on the edge of my seat. Not only was Presley in danger but Shot had some enemies too. They also have a part to play in some of the danger. One thing I will say was the eBook cover felt a bit like it didn't quite fit my image of Shot. At least on the cover at this time, he looks more cowboy than a leader of a biker club. Not a tattoo to be found anywhere. But I probably shouldn't make a big deal about that because the picture did cause me to stop and take a closer look at the book. "I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.” |
Hot motorcycle bad boy falls for gorgeous government medical examiner – and our heroine’s over-protective brother is the sheriff trying to track down her crazy, stalker ex-bestie! Sounds like an “opposites attract” romance that will never work out – but we are all for the wild ride to see if it does! Presley has been terrorized by her psychotic ex-friend and co-worker for the last several months – both sabotaging her career and probably murdering her mother. Presley moves to Lawless, Texas to get to know her new fiercely loyal family after losing her mother while trying to hide from that crazy chick. She ends up saving the life of our anti-hero one violent night at her sister’s bar. Shot was shot in the cliffhanger of the series’ last book – Unforgiven. Presley is called in to save the Sons of Sorrow president and the bikers whisk her away to their secret club location. Shot wakes up from his almost certain deathbed and is immediately in her debt and he “hates owing anyone” a debt. Thus begins his surveillance of her every move. Shot will do anything to keep her safe, even as his club grumbles at his distraction. Even though they are from opposite worlds, their chemistry is super combustible. Instant attraction is a troupe our author Jay Crownover has perfected and once Shot and Presley connect – how sweet it is! Along the way to their HEA, we have our psycho’s suspense and some motorcycle club shenanigans. Oh yeah, some Lawton family love as well – a baby, a wedding and a medical scare all put our “reader feels” thru the wringer. The surprise sprung at the final showdown caught me off guard in typical Crownover fashion. I have been anxiously waiting to read this installment of the Loveless series – and super sad that it is the conclusion to the Lawton family rom-drama. Ms. Crownover is one of my favorite authors and with Blacklisted she does not disappoint. Now where is she going to take us next? Thanks to Jay, NetGalley and Forever Publishing for this ARC in exchange for an honest review. |
Dr. Presley Baskin has been having a really rough time. Her entire life imploded and she is now left dealing with loss and anger, waiting for her ex-friend and current stalker to come out of hiding, and dealing with new half-siblings she did not know she had. When her half-sister calls her desperate for help, she did not expect to have to help save the life of the President of the local MC Club. Shot Caldwell would have died if not for the Presley. And even though he knows she is not the kind of woman for him and is also the Sheriff's half-sister, he pays his debts. And that is his justification for why he cannot seem to stay away from her even when she or her half-brother tell him to. But it becomes clear pretty fast that Presley is in danger and Shot just cannot leave her unprotected. “I’m the one who is going to purposely cross your path. I’m never going to walk the other way when I see you coming. I’m going to head right toward you.” Presley is reserved, sweet, analytical, anxiety-ridden, hurt, and afraid. She has been hiding out and trying to keep safe. Shot is ex-military, an MC legacy, bossy, and likes to be in control. He has plenty of his own enemies gunning for him and his club too. He knows he is not meant for relationships even though he had a casual one with her half-sister. Yes, another reason Presley should be off-limits. He is the chaos...she is the calmness. He is alpha, tough, and protective. He pushes her out of her comfort zone and encourages her to take back her life. She is becoming empowered and determined to deal with her situation once and for all so she can find peace. They take turns saving each other and trading favors. And along the way they start connecting and getting more serious. But they are different types of people and live different lives. (QUOTE) The truth was that there was no place in the life I was preparing to go back to for someone like Shot Caldwell. It was boring, predictable, and staid…well it would be once no one was trying to kill me. And who was I to expect someone who lived their life full tilt, full speed, and out of control to try and understand that? To try and find their space inside the stillness? Not me. I would never. This is an opposites-attract, forbidden, good-girl-meets-bad-boy romance with danger, suspense, and heat. It is not only a romantic suspense story, but also a journey of self-realization and a catalyst for change for both of them. It's about finding a connection, balance, priorities, and the importance of family and a home. I enjoyed seeing the growth in the characters and changing dynamics with her family and his club. It brings back the intense Lawton siblings and their significant others, and continues and concludes the ongoing mystery and suspense story arc that began in the previous books. And it lets us see what is going on in their relationships and leave them right where they need to be. I will admit that I had a harder time keeping my attention on this one and I am not sure why. It could have just been me. Something about the point of view or writing style on this one that did not draw me in as much as her books usually do. It took me longer to read than usual and I kept putting it down. But the last half went faster and had more action than the first part. And overall, I liked it and the characters. |
Who would have thought that Kody’s friend, Shot the hardass biker guy, actually had a soft spot? All it took was for Presley to remove a bullet from his shoulder and he was smitten. Presley is the recently discovered half sibling of Kody, Case, and Crew Lawton. She’s got a former friend terrorizing her and her new family, throughout most of the series. Since this is the last of the series, I think, a lot of the storylines get wrapped up. Normally a series like this you could jump in at any book and meet the couples but this has a continuing storyline threaded throughout, I recommend reading the books in order. Crownover is always a great read, she provides characters with deep feelings and intriguing personalities, along with a flying bullet now and again. My copy came through Netgalley and I wrote my review voluntarily. |
After meeting Presley in the previous book I was really interested in finding out more about her. Her life pretty much blew up in her face after finding out about half siblings, her mother dying, her ex-best friend going psycho and now being dragged into the world of the Sons of Sorrow MC after helping their president, Shot. Shot has his own issues and someone after him but that doesn't stop him from stepping in and helping Presley. Presley and Shot had undeniable chemistry and I really liked getting to see their differences and how they made them perfect for each other. Presley was used to a boring life with a normal routine but Shot definitely shook that routine up even more than her stalker did. The emotions were high in this book and it had me captivated with every turn of the page as I got to see more and more of this couple finding how they fit together. Shot may be a bad boy biker but he had that heart of a cowboy and that's what this book focuses on. Bottom line, it was a brilliant story that kept me intrigued and had me falling in love with both characters. It's one I definitely recommend reading and would say that this is a series that needs to be read in order to really enjoy it. |
