OMG! Ok, I was a little late with reading and reviewing this one, BUT I had started to hear so many wonderful things about this Author, that I had to buy the first three books in this series, as this one is Number 4 AND get caught up first!

I enjoyed this series BEYOND measure and I even went out and picked up a copy of this book to complete my collection! Well done!

I’ve also become a reader of many of the other stories written by Ms. Coates and let me say, audiobooks as well!

Huge fan and Highly suggest you dive into this series....FOR SURE!!!

What happens when your home that was once a sanctuary has now become a trap?
The stark winds continue to blow with the hollow earth grounds crumbling, humanity needs more refuges (safe zones for harvesting food, and the manor seems to be the last hope.
Darcy Coates creates a dystopian novel full of intrigue, suspense, and mystery using Silence in the Shadows as the final draw for Black Winter series.
I've only read one other novel by Coates but she's quickly become a favorite of mine in this fantasy genre and for good reason.
Each book carries its own weight and transports us to a new location that's equally rich in both quality and quantity with regards to the characters, the plots, and the twists that leave one wondering how the journey ends with baited breath.
I loved every minute of this newest creation and look forward to more intriguing reads by Darcy Coates.

I typically love Dary Coates’ books, however, when I started the Black Winter series I had no idea what I was getting into. I thought it would be similar to her other haunted house stories full of ghosts and evil spirits but boy was I wrong. This dystopian series is incredibly strange, but it really sucks you in. You just keep reading because you have to discover what is going on. Silence in the Shadows wraps up the story of Clare and Dorran and their fight against the Hollow ones. In this novel, Clare and Dorran make a long journey back to Winterbourne in hopes of establishing a safe haven for people. This book, along with the rest of the books in the series, is incredibly strange yet deliciously creepy. Darcy Coates writes in a way that keeps you on the edge of your seat.

I would like to thank the author, publisher and Net Galley for providing a free copy of this book in exchange for my review.

I recognized the author's name, and I believe I have read of her books by her, but I had not read the previous books in this series. I know she is a popular author with high ratings for her books, but I didn't love this book. I'm not sure if it was the writing style, or coming to the series on the last book. I didn't really care for the characters, Clare seemed to be a bit out of touch with what was going on, and the male character, Dorran, seemed to be distracted from what is going on to focus on Clare and her whims.

I don't think I'll go back and read the other books in the series, but I might try another by the author.

Loved the characters, settings and ever twisting plot...I was not able to put this book down! Now I need to read the rest of the Black Winter series....BTW this would make a great TV series!!! Highly recommend it!

There's No Safety in the Stillness

The stark world continues to change. Each passing day twists it further, pushing the survivors closer to the brink of extinction. But, for the first time, there is hope.

Clare and Dorran have set their sights on returning home to Winterbourne Hall. It's a daunting journey, but vital. Humanity needs more refuges—safe areas where food can be grown without attracting the attention of the hollow ones—and the old gothic manor is their best bet.

But their home is no longer a sanctuary. It's become a trap: carefully crafted for them, lying in wait for their return. By the time they realize just how dangerous Winterbourne has become, it's already too late.

The fight for survival is far from over.

This is the final book in the Black Winter series and even though I was sad for it to end this book was an excellent ending to the series.

I loved the characters and the setting of this book. It kept me turning the pages to find out if the world would get it’s happily ever after.

I would highly recommend that you read the first three books before attempting this book as there is a lot of backstories that will help you understand why the characters do what they do especially Dorran.

I love this author and will be reading more from her in the future.

Fans of the dystopian will relish this one for the clever plotting and good characters- even if they, like me, didn't read the earlier books. Clare and Dorran are traveling through a dangerous and frightening world- where mutations of humans are roaming and, well, being mutations. Much of humanity (real people) has been overtaken and now, Clare and Dorran are trying to get to Winterbourne to set up a safe haven for those who are left. No spoilers from me but this one will keep you guessing. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. A good fast read that would make a good movie.

Where to start without giving anything away? Silence in the Shadows is an excellent conclusion to the Black Winter series.

Clare and Dorran struggle to return to what has become their home amid the silence but all is not as it seems upon their arrival. Some parts of this I could totally see coming but it actually helped build the suspense as I wondered how they would respond to the approaching danger.

I have to say I absolutely adored Silence in the Shadows as much I did the first three in the Black Winter series. I was so nervous/excited to read the final culmination but it was well worth the wait!

I would recommend reading the series in order as I think you might get a little lost or lose interest to just jump in without the backstory. The character development throughout the series was an integral part of my interest. Silence in the Shadows comes out in October - if you start reading the series now you will be all ready to go! 😁😁 Many many thanks to Net Galley, Poisoned Pen Press and of course the amazingly talented Darcy Coates for my ARC to read and review.
