I have been seeing so many rave reviews of Sarah J. Maas’ books and especially A COURT OF THORNS AND ROSES and the rest of that series. I had read the first two books in her Throne of Glass series a few years back and didn’t keep up with it, but I’ve since seen a few recommendations indicating that that series continues to get better and that ACOTAR might be an easier way to start in her books. When I saw ACOTAR for a good price, I snatched it up and just in time since I found out some friends were buddy reading it in June!

A COURT OF THORNS AND ROSES follows Feyre, a young human who kills a kills a wolf while out hunting to feed her family. She later learns that this wolf was actually a faerie in wolf form, a crime with dire consequences. Feyre must make a choice to hand over her life either to death or to living out her life in the Fae realm. Taught to hate and distrust faeries, Feyre is surprised at what she finds when she crosses the border out of her world.

I really enjoyed this book and flew through it! Though I would never claim to be a big romance fan, I have been becoming more and more of a fantasy fan so I love the combination of world building and supernatural characters with romance entwined. I really enjoyed learning a bit about the world of the Fae, their magic and their ways of life. I look forward to learning more as the series continues.

I loved following Feyre at the center of the story. She has a strong sense of loyalty to her family and her responsibilities when it comes to taking care of them, even when they show no signs of appreciation. She has been raised with hatred toward the Fae, believing that they are dangerous, but she does have a willingness to change her mind and form her own opinions when faced with different information. Feyre is far from perfect and she makes mistakes along the way, but she is intelligent and gutsy and a wonderful protagonist to root for.

This book lived up to the hype for me and I’ve only heard that the series continues to get better from here! Book two is already in route and I look forward to continuing on with the series!

A beautiful, remarkable loose retelling of Beauty and The Beast that will wrap you only spit you on on the third book with a deep love for a world only brought to life by the glory of this series. My favorite series..ever. I promise you'll be unable to get enough.

Maas has outdone herself. You must read this book. It took me one night. I started it at 8:00 pm and finished at 7:00 am or something. And that was with some sleep.

The characters are compelling. The setting is extraordinary. And the plot will keep you turning the pages.

All the stars and a definite must-read.

Sidenote: I would classify this as more adult because of the smut. So heads up!

While this book doesn't end on a cliffhanger it leaves you wanting more. Have the second book ready is all I can say. The world building in this was beautiful, seamless, I was instantly transported. If you enjoy sci fi books mixed with romance, just stop what you're doing and go read this now.

A fun and solid beginning! Honestly, this book is very basic fantasy with a promise of much more interest to come. Because the book is beholden to the Beauty and the Beast retelling, there's not much Maas can do in terms of plot. The villain is very one note and evil, Feyre is boring, and Tamlin... I don't really have an opinion on. But the world is interesting and the side characters are really fun, so I look forward to book 2!

Also, the sexiness... that's 5 stars alone OKAY

Sarah J Maas did a good job with this series, she really captivated so many people and this book proves why. A Court of Thorns and Roses is like a beauty in the beast retelling but way different.
It is about Faeries. Sneaky, dangerous Faeries. Not everything you believe to be true about them can be trusted.
This is my favorite beginning in all of Sarah’s books. I can’t wait for the next book.

A Court of Thorns and Roses is a fantasy adventure/romance with little hints of Beauty and the Beast and definitely a must read. This is the most enjoyable fantasy I have ever read and promises to stay with me for a long time. Feyre promised her dying mother that she would take care of her family. At the age of nineteen, her life is hunting to feed the family and selling the hides of animals to make some money. While hunting for a deer, she shoots and skins a giant wolf not caring if it is a faerie or an animal. High Lord of the Spring Court, Tamlin demands her life for the wolf, one of his loyal men and takes her back to his manor. Seemingly more beast than man, Tamlin begins to win Feyre over even as the darkness that threatens the land rears its ugly head. Feyre is underestimated over and over but proves the power of love I found it easy to fall in love with Tamlin and to feel the high emotions that come from Tamlin and Feyre hard fought battle for love. Danger and excitement feed a memorable love story with interesting characters and fantastic world building. This is one of those stories that you hate to put down to take care of everyday life and literally cannot wait to pick back up. I found myself sad that it was over but excited that its just the first book in a series. My volutary, unbiased review is based upon a review copy is based upon a review copy from Netgalley.

This book caught my eye because of the description. It seemed to be a retelling of Beauty and the Beast. If so it's not a traditional one. That's not a bad thing, my expectations were met and I also didn't know what to expect by the end. May read more from this author.

Omg! The angst and the romance! Team Feyre! She’s so strong! This is what my ideal character all should be like. Nesta was sooo evil. That’s the only thing I hated, after the treatment Feyre receives from her family she still works wayyy to hard and sacrificing herself. No one is that selfless. I can’t wait to continue this amazing series

Sarah J. Maas never fails to amaze me. This was my first Fantasy read and it was everything I wanted! Plus there’s romance! Lots of romance! I just know that Rhysand will be my book boyfriend forever.

This book started off very slow. The world building is always kind of boring and slow for me. BUT wait til you get towards the end OMG IT GOT BETTER! I loved the action and completely fallen in love with Faes 😍 This is a hyped book that I’ll never regret reading! It deserves all the hype!!! Highly recommend it!

By far one of my favorite YA books to date. I couldn’t put it down. Feyre was an inspiring role model and the character development was excellent. The descriptions of the setting painted the picture. I cannot wait to read the next books in the series.

This was a hard review for me to write, mainly because I'm reviewing it after a reread. I'm trying to keep the rest of the series separate in my mind and focus solely on A Court of Thorns and Roses.

Beauty and the Beast retellings are some of my favorite stories, and this one is no exception. It was a delightful take on the tale, and populated by some very memorable characters. Feyre is not a larger-than-life heroine, which tends to mean people either love her or hate her. I personally enjoyed her realism, and felt it made her more relatable. Tamlin, I could take or leave. Maybe I was hoping to see more of the character's namesake (from the English ballad, The Ballad of Tam Lin) shine through, but all in all he was a decent love interest. I adored Lucien, and felt his snark added nicely to the story.

What really impressed me about this particular book is that the characters often cross into moral grey areas. They are faced with hard choices, and sometimes make the wrong ones. More so, the consequences of these choices aren't quickly forgotten. The characters are shaped by them in a way that is rarely touched upon in high fantasy stories, where trauma is often glossed over to keep the story moving.

Bottom line: A Court of Thorns and Roses is an engrossing book, and the perfect start to a wonderful series.

An imaginative retelling of a classic fable that everyone knows and most people love. Placing a fairy world around the story of beauty and the beast is definitely something I didn't think I needed in my life, but apparently I was wrong. This is a story of loss and learning, as well as one of triumph and love that hits in ways you never expect, and one that I always will recommend for people looking for something new and refreshing (especially if they're fans of pop fiction like the Twilight saga or Divergent). It hits a lot of the same notes you need for a good book and delivers on an ending that wasn't completely predictable.

This is a author that captures the reader from beginning to end. She has a captivating writing style that is enjoyable to read and fast paced. i love the charcters and how she weaves their strengths into their story . This is the story of a land divided into human realm and fae realm. The fae realm is ruling, and is divided into courts. They are at odds with the human realm who is unaware of the totality of their power. The main character is Feyre who is a human. She is smart, savvy and very courageous. She faces many challenges within this land and must gain strength from each challenge. She moves between the lands divided to save herself and fight for her kind with a boldness and Goddess like goodness . I loved this book and highly recommend it . A thrilling, gripping, page-turning, and uber entertaining read. Sarah J. Maas has a gift for telling a story that you just want to gobble up. This is the kind of book that I like to call UNPUTDOWNABLE.

If you haven't read this book yet, I'd highly recommend that you do! Because it only gets better.

Can I say it louder for those of you in the back?

I was swooning from start to finish. This was a whimsical masterpiece that just kept me on the edge of my seat. I love Beauty & The Beast retellings. Tamlin was everything you wanted in this book, but can I just say I was crushing hard on Rhysand from the jump? Lucian was technically my first choice when reading this.

I mean it just made me feel so many things. I love how empowering Feyre was trying to fight for someone she loved. When a book makes you feel so deeply, you can't help but try to scream about it wherever you go.

I loved the romance in this book A LOT. I don't usually ship stuff this hard, but Sarah J. Maas just EXCELS at giving you a romance to root for. I loved all the side characters and the real hero here is clearly the Suriel.

When I picked this one up, I loved it as much as I loved throne of glass. I literally stayed up the whole night, went to sleep at 5 a.m. after finishing the book!

This story is based upon a land which is divided into human realm and fae realm. The fae realm is ruling, and is divided into courts, eg. Summer court, spring court, etc. So the main character is Feyre who is a human and earns livelihood for her family by hunting. The humans hate fae in this story and vice versa. There is a wall between them. One day while hunting a deer she spots a wolf who is fae and has trespassed the wall. Out of anger and hatred, she kills the wolf.

Now the wolf's friend comes to her house and demands life in exchange for life and gives Feyre two choices, death or spending forever in Fae realm. She chooses the later and is introduced to a completely different realm from her own. Here she tries to escape but soon realises her captor as a High lord (ruling provincial king kinda) of the court. She is torn between escaping and surviving as she finds she is only safe with the high lord. (Major beauty and the beast vibes but obviously with lots of difference)

For me, I was satisfied with the ending and a sequel might not help the plot so am not picking the next book but maybe in future.

A Court of Thorns and Roses is a decent enough fantasy novel. I don't usually agree with comparing books to others, but there were so many similarities to Hunger Games that I was actually distracted from the story. If this type of thing bothers you, beware. The main character in ACOTAR is set up to be a relentlessly strong woman, teaching herself to hunt and provide for her family when tragedy strikes (even though she is the youngest). She is patient, level-headed, stubborn and unemotional throughout the first part of the book. So when she flips her personality around after what seemed like just meeting Tamlin, suddenly in love and called him "my High Lord" I was stunned. Also, she becomes a bit obsessed with painting and the many, many things she will never be able to recreate in paint. I had to roll my eyes a few times at the new version of Feyre. It wasn't until the second half of the book, when the three tasks began, that I really got into the story. That portion had me turning pages to see how she would fare!

I know the first book in the series can be a bit dull, especially in fantasy. There is world building, a cast of characters to introduce, and only the first in a series of conflicts. Howver, I have already ordered the next few books and will happily continue with Feyre's journey. This was an easy and quick read, and I really think the following books will be much more engaging for me right off the bat.
