Really fantastic introduction to an amazing trilogy.
In the beginning of A Court of Thorns and Roses I assumed this was going to be another Beauty and the Beast retelling and they were to love happily ever after... however the darkness took over their happily ever after and its up to human girl feyre to save the day.
We only meet a few characters but yet they all have unique characteristics that contribute wholley to the story. Tamlin is somewhat kind yet mysterious- dangerously attractive to Feyre. Lucian is sharp and damaged, but becomes an ally to Feyre after many tribulations. Rhys is a dark and brooding character that seems to offer a threat to feyre and tamlin at first, but as the book goes along we really discover the different layers to his character....
Sarah J Maas created a beautiful world full of twists and turns that had my gripped to this novel. Truly excellent, I cannot recommend enough!

A Court Of Thorns And Roses
By: Sarah J. Mass

REVIEW ☆☆☆☆
I remember reading A Court Of Thorns And Roses a couple of years ago when it was first released, and I loved it. By the time the second book was published, I had forgotten everything that happened in ACOTAR. I always intended to go back to the start and read this book again, but I didn't have time. Now, I will start again with the first book. I just recall that it was fantastic, and I absolutely loved reading ACOTAR.

An interesting Beauty and the Beast retelling. I loved the world and the twist on the fairytale. I enjoyed Feyre’s character and seeing her learn the faerie world. I did not really like Tamlin and didn’t love the romance between them. There were side characters I enjoyed much note than Tamlin.
The world building and politics were entertaining and this is a very strong first book in a series.

A Court of Thorns and Roses is the first book in a trilogy of the same name. It is a Beauty and the Beast retelling told from the point of view of Feyre, a young woman who gets kidnapped to Prythian - the land of Fae, because she killed a wolf who was actually a transformed Fae.

This was my third time reading this novel, and I was surprised that I'd enjoyed it more than the previous two times. Although I still cringed a bit when certain characters were speaking - because no matter the situation, they couldn't say one normal sentence, I actually enjoyed the writing a lot. Sarah J. Maas has a specific kind of prose that can be both epic and full of action and sweetly poetic at the same time, and her biggest talent is that you want to be in the book with the characters - which I absolutely ADORE. She always finds the right balance between negative and positive things.
What still didn't appeal to me, though, was the romance between Tamlin and Feyre: it was just too insta-lovey and unbelievable. I didn't really see WHY they'd fallen in love in the first place.

In conclusion, the good (the worldbuilding, the writing and the atmosphere) outweighed the bad (the annoying dialogue and the not-so-well written romance) and I'd say I liked the story. I cannot but compare it to the second and third book and I have to say, although a decent read, it is no match for them.

Love it! I love this book so much. I loved Feyre and her character development through this book and just wait until you read a court of mist and fury.

Thank you Netgalley for providing me a copy for an honest review!

It has been a while since I have read such an immersive book. This book gave me a sort of “beauty and the beast” retelling feel, but the story itself was so different that the feeling was where it ended. The language was so descriptive, so while this book wasn’t really action-driven, but character-driven, the language was so immersive, that I was drawn again and again into the Spring Court.

The message of this book is so relevant to me during this time. I’ve taken so many things from this book, and the comparisons to the world today couldn’t have been more obvious to me.

Don’t judge someone by their outward appearance. Feyre is raised to hate the Fae. She is taught from a young age that the Fae are dangerous, and would someday show up in their lands to kill all of them. This fear and hatred is what causes her to kill the wolf. When she arrives in Prythian, her fear and hatred start to dissipate as she learns to see the Fae for who they are, not for what she has been raised to think of them.

The correlation of the “Blight” in Prythian and the Covid pandemic was also too obvious to ignore. But while the people in Prythian stood back and accepted their fate, we refused to do that. We are fighting with everything we have to overcome this disaster, and we will rise on the other side stronger than before.

This book gets a wholehearted 5 stars! I’m so excited to get the other books in the series, and continue Feyre’s journey! I loved the descriptions the author gives, because she brings such life to the human world, and to Prythian. Her words can make the reader actually see the difference between our world and the world of the Fae; the differences are astounding.

A Court of Thorns and Roses was an enjoyable read. As a Beauty and the Beast retelling it worked well. The world building, too, was nicely handled, with information introduced as we needed it. Feyre is an engaging character, and I appreciated the gradual development of her relationship with Tamlin (and Lucien). The pacing at the start was a little slow, but once the story got going properly it moved along nicely. I would certainly be interested in picking up book two to find out how things progress.

This has been a popular series for so long for good reason. It's a fairly well written dark fairy-tale complete with magic and Fae and a classic "beauty and the beast" set up. Maas takes her time setting up her world and characters, and sometimes there is a little too much reliance and telling vs showing (though she has some truly lovely descriptions in here!), but it does pay off. I was in the mood for something seriously plot driven and this book delivered a really fun experience without being so "YA". The insta-love in this book was kind of silly, but I understand that the love story evolves as the series continues. Definitely curious to see where this story is headed next; it's the perfect kind of fluffy fun.

i would have given up on this one if i hadn’t been warned that it’s a slow start until about 30% in. but once i made it past that point i was obsessed. for not being a fantasy fan, i’m definitely a fan of this. i will say that it’s marketed as YA but is not a YA novel. the characters were super impressive & the story world was soooo cool. it was really layered, proving to be a story that was not what i was expecting. i’m trying to make this as non-spoiler as possible ... sooooo i’ll stop there. overall i’m obsessed with it & i haven’t been this way about a book since like the mara dyer trilogy.

Let me describe my emotional journey over the past 24 hours:

Me: I don’t like books about the fae! They’re just not my thing.

Me: *reads THE CRUEL PRINCE and THE WICKED KING because of a friend’s rec. I don’t love them, but they’re ridiculously addictive and I want more stories about the fae.*

Me, browsing Libby: Oh, ACOTAR looks good! My friends like this book.

Me, reading the book: I love this book! I love Beauty and the Beast retellings! I’m so smart for choosing to read this.

Me, finishing this book: This isn’t perfect, but it gave me All The Feels. I love Tamlin and Feyre together. They’re my OTP. Why don’t people classify this as Genre Romance? It’s totally a fantasy romance with a HEA.

Me, browsing Libby to check out the rest of the series and reading all the blurbs: What the fuck?

I really enjoyed this. I haven’t read Maas’ ToG series yet but this was a good taste of her writing. I had high expectations for this book because I had heard so many amazing reviews, but for me, it wasn’t so mindblowing as everyone else. I enjoyed it at first with the killing of the fairy and the beast that came for Feyre and brought her to Prythian. I liked Lucien’s character more than Tamlin’s. I wasn’t a fan of the romance between Feyre and Tamlin, yes I can see the appeal but it just didn’t work for me. When she met Rhys at the Fire Night although we didn’t know at the time it was him, I got the feeling that the man that saved her might be a potential future ‘boyfriend’. But when we officially met him, all the good that happened disappear he was so evil. But of course, Sarah J.Maas made us second guess ourselves. When Feyre was participating in the trials, he helped her and he was even sweet. And when she made the deal that one week a year she would go to stay in the Night Court with Rhysand that left Tamlin feeling weird and searching for a way out but Feyre had become a sort of friends with Rhys, so she didn’t mind that much. I ship Rhys and Feyre more than her with Tamlin. I can’t wait for the second book every review I have read says it’s the best book in the series. I hope there is a romance with Rhys and Feyre.

My rating is 3.5/5 stars.

I love Fae! But this story really took it to another level. It has it all- fantasy, sci fi, a touch of horror, steamy romance- a perfect mix of everything. Toss in wonderful characters, in a range from good to bad but realistically painted, a great plot and a cracking pace, and you have a recipe for lost sleep-up all night reading. I loved it. It was more than I expected. It has riddles, trials, and hard decisions with some intense consequences. I was held from start to finish drinking each and every word. I hope to get to part two right away. Highly recommend to fans of fairytale retellings. This one is not to be missed.

I was given a free copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I love all the books by Sarah J. Maas! Everytime she has a new book coming out, I have already preordered it. A Court of Thorns and Roses has the strong heroine character that is characteristic in her books. Feyre only wants to protect and help her family survive but one kill takes her to the land of the Fae and from there she has to deal with Tamlin. There is some chemistry there but as I have read the whole series, I know there there is more going on.

Feyre does a great job of overcoming all the obstacles in trying to free Tamlin and his people from their curse and trying to find her place. This is a fun book and even better series once you get past this first one.

The new covers look pretty cool too.

I kept hearing so many wonderful things about this book, and the whole series, so I decided I would finally read it. It seemed like a book I'd love, but unfortunately I didn't end up loving it. Overall, I thought the plot was okay and the storyline was mildly interesting, but there were little things that kept it from being great.
I'll start with the things I liked about this book. The action scenes in this book were probably my favorite parts and I loved it when Feyre was in the woods hunting. I thought the writing style was amazing, and I loved the language and imagery so it's not why I didn't love this book. The main issues I had with it were the decisions made by the main character and the plot of the second half of the story.
I liked Feyre just enough to make it through the book, but there were certain decisions she made that didn't make sense. I wanted to like Tamlin, I really did, but he came off as kind of boring, or maybe his character wasn't developed enough. Lucien was probably my favorite character.
I will read the next book and I'm hopeful that I'll like it more than this book. My actual rating is 3.6 stars.

I have read the Glass Thrones series by Sarah. J. Maas, but I hadn’t read this series yet. I really enjoyed the first book.

Feyre was a wonderful well rounded character. She is strong, faithful and curious. Not perfect, but that is what makes her interesting and human.

The story is full of angst, action, beauty, heartbreak, fear, faith and love.

A great introduction to an amazing series. I really enjoyed this book and its initial beauty and the beast/fairytale vibe, but that changes in the last half of the book, and gets more intense and suspenseful - my favourite parts of this story. Great read.

I was so thrilled to see this book on Netgalley!

ACOTAR is one of my favourite books and series of all time and getting any excuse to reread it is wonderful.

If you love fantasy with romance, a beauty and the beast retelling with dark themes and sharp plot twists, you will love this book!

I love this and hope that with this new cover design, it draws in even more readers and fans to this series.

This was my best series. But the first book was the least fave of all books.
At the 2/3 part of the book, it was very slow phase. But the world building was so great. The 2/3rd part of the book was full of world building. And when it got the the last 1/3rd part I was like shocked and the plot twist was really amazing.
I might say that this book that got me into a love of all Sarah J Maas books and became my most favorite female author.
