I love being pleasantly surprised whenever I go out of my comfort zone. You don’t have to be a fantasy lover to adore this book. I am so glad I was brought into Feyre’s. As a Disney fanatic, this being loosely based on Beauty and the Beast made this all the better. I urge anyone to read this page turner!

Loved this book. Fantastic start to a great series. Lots of adventure and mysterious characters! Story begins a little slow but it is so important to the plot. Well worth the time spent reading!

Simply wonderful. A beautifully crafted story, with well developed characters and enough twists to keep you wondering and second guessing every detail.

This book was a #bookstagrammademedoit purchase! I haven’t read much fantasy before, but I am so glad I picked this one up! It is so worth all the hype. It did start a little slow for me, but once it got going, I found I did not want to put it down. I already want to read the second book in the series, I’ve heard it’s even better than the first one!

I loved the twist on the Beauty and the Beast vibes in this book. The author does such a good job with this. I thought Feyre was such a great character, and I can’t wait to see where the rest of the series takes her. She is such a strong female character. I also loved Tamlin and Rhys! I am so excited to see where this book goes. I am probably one of the last ones to read this series, but if you haven’t read it yet, I highly recommend it!

I am not sure why it took me so long to start this series!!

Reminiscent of Beauty and the Beast but with fairies? Yes please! Sarah J Maas did not disappoint. The characters were great. Amazing world building. Such good description of characters that I could almost picture the characters.

Feyre is mortal and has been brought up to hate fairies. While out hunting for her family, she killed a wolf. What she didn’t know was that this was a fairy in disguise. She is confronted by Tamlin, the leader of the Spring court and is forced to live in his kingdom as punishment for her crime. She learns that fairies aren’t exactly what she was led to believe. What she doesn’t know is that a war is brewing and she is going to be caught in the middle.

I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.

BURY ME WITH THIS BOOK

I have not read an amazing character driven book like this one in ages. The character growth in Feyre— INCREDIBLE.

And the imagery omg— I felt like I was INSIDE the story beside Feyre the whole time. I could see it all so vividly.

Why did I wait so long to read this book I hate myself 😭

It’s kind of funny this isn’t typically my type of read and yet when I saw it all over Bookstagram and received an Arc from Netgalley, i jumped right in. This story was very well written & I really liked the character development. Feyre Archheron is the main character of this fantasy novel. Feyre is the lone supporter of her family. They live in a bleak, cold world where there seems to be no hope. As it stands, she is the only one bringing food for her family. She had to learn to hunt so that they could survive. She starts out slow but soon learns all she needs to know to become very successful. During one of these hunts she sees a deer being chased by a wolf and can’t take her eyes off it. She wants to become part of this hunt. In doing so though, she makes a terrible mistake of killing a faire. She is taken to another magical kingdom for the killing of this faire and is completely distraught at what might happen. While here she has to protect herself from the head courts leader Amarantha. She must figure out and help the people from Amarantha’s curse. She is constantly worried about her family back home and even seems to find love. This story is fast paced. The characters are so good. The author tells this story so well, I couldn’t put it down. I had to see how Feyre did? Could she save herself and all that she loves. Will she too be stuck under Amaranths’s curse? This was a 4 star read for me. I can’t wait to start the second book in the series. Thank you again to Netgalley & the author Sarah J Mass, for my copy for an honest review. It was an awesome read and I have let everyone know on my Instagram page & on social media sites to pick this book up and give it a read!!! They might be as pleasantly surprised like I was.

This was such a good one! Everyone knows how popular this series has begun and now I can see why! Will definitely continue to read Sarah J. Maas.

I enjoy a book that combines more than one genre. Fantasy with romance is such a fun combination, although maybe it gets a bit confusing who the target audience is for this. I would be interested in the follow-up books.

Okay, lets just say, I UNDERSTAND THE HYPE NOW!

First off, fantasy books are not my go to genre to read. That doesn't mean I don't enjoy them or even read them, but I do find I don't read very many. But with this series, I can say that is about to change!

I LOVED THIS BOOK!!! Feyre is strong, independent, and beyond loyal. She is admirable in the way she survives, and goes after what she wants. And Tamlin reminded me so much of the beast in Beauty & The Beast. Hard and angry on the outside, but once you get through the exterior he is the sweetest & kindest. Lucien felt like the best friend, that also likes to stir up a little trouble now and then. I also found myself drawn to both Nesta and Rhys' characters. I know they both came across as cold, but I found them absolutely intriguing! I cannot wait to see what else happens with everyone.

I can say I am a fan of this series so far, and will be starting the second book ASAP!

Received an Advanced Reader’s Copy from publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review! Thank you!

This is my first Sarah J. Maas read and I always wondered why I hesitated before this because an author with such a large fan-base had to have written a fantastic book. So why was I hesitating? Especially after hearing so very much about Rhys (Bookstagram is mighty).

I eventually realised why I was hesitating, because some part of me remembered attempting to read a well-known book a long long time ago but had given up just past halfway through the book and I was almost scared that that book was ACoTaR. I hesitated to even read the blurb in fear of confirmation because I remember why I stopped reading it, sort of.

Then one day, NetGalley had ACoTaR on Read-Now (perhaps when the cover had changed?) and I decided, hey here is a good reason to propel me to read! Even after that I kept hesitating then finally finally dove in after hearing a lot of assurances and cheering from Michelle @LoveStarsBooks at the exact moments I needed it and soon I was flying past the point I distinctly remember stopping at.

To say I regret not having finished A Court of Thorns and Roses the first time would be a lie because this way I got to enjoy a large part of the series without waiting—thank you God—and I think the timing was perfect in terms of… well in terms of what I needed to see. I don’t think there’s much I can say that hasn’t been already said about A Court of Thorns and Roses, but hey, let’s do this one more time.

Just like most people who read, I love morally grey characters. Almost every single person in this book is morally grey or at least their story eventually reveals the light to their personalities. Well, except for the people who are so drenched in the dark that the light doesn’t shine through.

Feyre, Tam, Lucien, Rhys are all playing out parts in a long planned and destined skit, and while they are always in control they are also very powerless and lost. Their strengths are used against them and their knees are to the floor, hands tied back as they are asked to fight a powerful enemy. They scrounge up as much courage and strength as they can, even as guilt digs into them for every single choice they have made that saves many but not all.

The plot itself is so intricate that it doesn’t unravel truly until the protagonist and the reader take a risk. Once you make that jump to push past something that you are yet to see, suddenly like the very glamour (the Fae are fond of) falling apart before you, you are able to see beyond it to the millennia old scheming, slaughter and suffering. The writing is gripping (and when I read in the acknowledgements that the author was twenty two years old, I felt fantastically inadequate, but that’s for another day) and I could barely stop to eat or sleep and I won’t lie, I started wishing I’d purchased the Audiobook just to be able to read while I did something else. The world building is spot on because it trickles through like water would through a small crevice in the wall—in time and just enough.

Five stars. That is all. *pulls covers over head*

Happy Reading and be safe!

This book was not for me. I’m not a fan of fantasy at all but it would be perfect for someone who likes it. I did not finish the book.

Despite clearly starting out life as a Beauty and the Beast retelling, A Court of Thorns and Roses takes on a distinct life of its own, branching away from classic fairytale territory and towards softcore paranormal erotica.

I will admit up front that I enjoyed reading this, but I was surprised to find I didn’t enjoy it quite as much as I had expected to. The cover, the blurb, the effusive accolades… everything led me to believe that this would be the kind of lush fae fantasy-realm adventure that I adore.

And I did adore many things about it! I was fascinated by the fae realm: the different ‘kinds’ of faeries and their different powers and skills are intriguing and I enjoyed the worldbuilding here; I found the immovable masks were a compelling hook and was eager to find out more about what happened and how it could be resolved; Rhysand and Lucien have the potential to be complex and interesting characters.

I found myself less fond of Feyre and Tamlin, which was unfortunate as they are the main characters, and I couldn’t buy into their great love story, which seemed to be based mainly on lack of communication and physical chemistry rather than on any sort of intimacy or understanding.

I couldn’t grasp Feyre’s relationship with her family at all, or why the fae treated her with such respect as a human, cold-blooded fae-murderer, and Amarantha didn’t feel anywhere near as powerful or scary as I had initially thought… especially with her weirdly limp ‘loophole’ riddle, that anyone could have solved with just five minutes thought!

Still, despite such flaws, this book is well-written and the worldbuilding is beautiful. There is plenty of love, sacrifice, sex and drama – enough to satiate the most avid soap-opera fanatic – and the fantasy elements are more a kind of bonus side-feature to the romance/erotica main feature.

On finishing, I was quite tempted to pick up the next in the series (I do love a good matching-cover series!), but ultimately decided that I was happy to leave Feyre and Tamlin where I left them and wish them all the best for a happy future together (hollow laughter – I’m not sure either of them know how to be happy!).

If you’re looking for an easy, steamy, enjoyable fantasy read then this is just the ticket, as long as you don’t go into it expecting too much.

'The faerie huffed a vicious laugh. “Willing to accept your fate so easily?” When I just stared at him, he said, “For having the nerve to request where I slaughter you, I’ll let you in on a secret, human: Prythian must claim your life in some way, for the life you took from it. So as a representative of the immortal realm, I can either gut you like a swine, or … you can cross the wall and live out the remainder of your days in Prythian.”
I blinked. “What?”
He said slowly, as if I were indeed as stupid as a swine, “You can either die tonight or offer your life to Prythian by living in it forever, forsaking the human realm.”'

Having never read Sarah J. Maas before, I was still very aware of her popularity on the bookish community. Colleagues at work kept telling me to read this book, and I am so glad I did. Maas' ability to hook the reader into her stories is truly wonderful, and once I was immersed in the world of Prythian, I never wanted to leave. I immediately purchased the rest of the books in the series and cannot stop talking about these books.

Her character work is amazing: I feel as if I know and understand Feyre, Tamlin and Lucien and am excited to see where they go in future stories. Even smaller characters like Nesta and Rhysand have compelling aspects to them that I know feature more heavily in future books. Maas' world-building is also fantastic and I felt as if I were walking in the Spring Court with Feyre throughout the novel. Her development of the curse and the reason behind it kept me intrigued throughout, as I was desperate to know how Feyre was going to break it. My favorite part of the entire novel was the relationship between Feyre and Tamlin. From enemies to lovers, the progression of their love never seemed forced or rushed- instead, they grew to like one another and eventually love one another over the course of the novel. It was sweet, and at times steamy, and I can't wait to see how their relationship grows in future novels.

Overall, this was a surprising treat for me. I did not expect to love this book as much as I did, and I am so glad I finally listened to my friends and coworkers and picked this one up. I will definitely be recommending it to my friends in the future.

I was not sold on the fantasy genre. And then I read A Court of Thorns and Roses and now I can't get enough of that world and I want to read the entire series without ever doing anything else again. I'm hooked on the series and I guess I need to rethink my I don't like fantasy books stance. I loved how "real" the whole thing felt. Even though I was reading a book about faerie lands and mythical creatures, I expected I could come across a Bogge in the woods too, like this is just something that happens. In my opinion, that fact speaks volumes of the writers ability to create this fantasy world.

I did not know if this series was for me but it definitely is. I haven't read many adult fantasy series books, I've stuck to mainly to middle grade and young adult ones. I'm excited to keep going with the series, especially after reading the excerpt for the second book at the end of this arc. Feyre is a wonderful heroine and I hate that this is even stated as a Beauty and the Beast retelling because its so much more than that and better. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for my digital review copy.
