I didn't expect to love this book so much! It was easy to read, I loved the plot line and I was rooting for the heroine. Do yourself a favor and read this book. |
This is the first time I have read this author and I really loved this book. Allison is the main character. As it begins, she has been let go from her job and when she got home, her fiancee' Neil called of the wedding as he fell for some one else , which happen to be her maid of honor and then later she found out is was a bridesmaid that was in on losing her job. What a way to start a day. The book goes on to share her feelings with her other bridesmaid Jordon, who stuck by her even so much as Allison bought her wedding gown and Jordon bought her dress. and reads a lot of self help books. Read the things she goes through to turn her life around. This is a VERY GOOD READ. I highly recommend this book |

Cute little romcom that was easy to read but nothing that would linger too long after finishing. Could have used a little more fleshing out of the romance aspect at the end but as the book was more about self discovery it’s understandable that this took a back seat. |
A real page turner that you will devore in one day. Alison is a beautifully written character that you will attach to and you will cry, you will laught and sometimes you will just smile because this story is so heart warming that you will cannot leave this book behind and you will just keep reading it to the end. |
Charming Falls Apart was a cute, classic rom-com. The story did feel a bit cliche, which happens so often in the Chick-Lit genre, but the overall premise captured me. The narrative flowed well and I enjoyed Allison's character. You felt her pain and you rejoiced in her wins. With all of that said, unfortunately the story itself didn't wholly capture my attention. Some of the side characters were a bit boring and very cliche. I do think it was a fun, light read and would still recommend even though it wasn't fully for me. |
We meet Allison on what could possibly be the worst day of her life. Her fiancé dumps her for her maid of honor right after she found out she had been fired. I could really resonate with the path she follows after. She wants to read all the books to help her through her problems – I do the same thing! (Side note : the self help section can be your best friend if you let it!) Finding herself with a lot more free time on her hands, she finally has to dig deep and find out what it is that drives her…I mean, besides copious amounts of caffeine. I loved this book so much that I could not put it down. Allison is a woman who is finally out to find what she loves instead of accommodating those around her all the time. In my opinion, that takes true strength – especially if you are a people pleaser! If you enjoy a self development journey – I’d highly recommend this book. |

Book Review: Charming Falls Apart by Angela Terry This was a very good book and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It is the story of Allison, who thought her life was all sorted with a perfect career and a perfect fiancé. However, she is forced to reflect on her choices when she gets fired and her fiancé decides to leave her, all on her birthday. She seeks refuge in bookstore’s Self Help aisle and reads a series of books, meditates and goes on holiday to clear her mind and start fresh, not only in her relationship but also in her career. The book came with some good advice that I could resonate with. For example, she was a people-pleaser. She never said no, easily compromised and didn’t highlight her opinion if it was different to other people. On some levels, I am unfortunately the same and it gave me food for thought that it is something that I should try to change consciously. My only issue with this book was that the people around her (especially her fiancé) got out of the whole situation very easily, he didn’t apologize or suffer after cheating and basically blamed Allison for being too compromising. I wanted a different ending with him! Overall it was an enjoyable read and I would rate it 3.5 stars out of 5. Thank you #netgalley and #girlfridayproductions for advanced readers’ copy in exchange of honest review. |
A bit too cliche for my taste. I ended up not finishing half way through and that’s not the books fault but I just wasn’t feeling it. It’s an easy read but I didn’t care too much for the characters unfortunately. I think a lot of other people will still love this one! |
This was not a winner for me. I found the main character absolutely frustrating and the side characters too flat to really understand. It was hard to slog through. |
Dumped by her cheating ex, fired from her job - what's a girl to do but turn to the world of self help books. Surely one of these books will help her get her life back on track? Allison who finds her life spiraling out of control certainly hopes so... if only she wasn't distracted by the rather nice barista who keeps offering her free food and drinks. |
I enjoyed this story, filled with insight and optimism. When Allison Jones gets fired from her job,the same day her fiancée calls off their wedding, Allison falls into a depression. While trying to figure out what went wrong, she starts to read a variety of self help books which help her put her situation in perspective. With a few setbacks, Allison moves forward, with the help of her best friend, Jordan. Recommended for a pleasant and hopeful story. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. |
Eat Pray Love Millenial style is how I would describe Allison's journey. I really enjoyed all of the pop culture references, and how Allison found herself after heartbreak and betrayal. I was on team Allison the entire book and really wanted things to work out for her. If you are looking for a book that will make you extremely happy and feeling good after you finish it then this is your book. |
i really wanted to like this book more than i did. it started out okay and then just went downhill from there. for me personally. but it might be great for other opeople. |
I really enjoyed Allison & Eric’s book. I loved watching Allison go on this journey and unexpectedly find Eric. Angela Terry is a new author to me and I would definitely read more of her books in the future. I voluntarily reviewed this book. |
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the free book in exchange for an honest review. I loved this book so much! I really related to Allison as a 30something who was in a relationship that wasn't meant to be for too long and as someone who's kind of at a standstill in her career. I also went to college in Chicago, so I love reading books set in Chicago. She mentioned some awesome bars and restaurants that I highly recommend. A couple of the twists I could see coming but overall laughed out loud a lot during this book and it was fun. Also, loved the mention of Real Men Love Bitches, it's a real book that can be an eyeopener for those of us who have had some crappy relationships and wonder why. I would definitely read more of this author's work! |
Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC of this book!! I loved it! Allie has everything together- great job, great fiancé, perfect apartment- until she doesn’t. All in one day she is fired from her PR job and then comes home to her fiancé dumping her right before their wedding to get with her maid of honor! At a total loss for what to do, she decides to get back to the old Allie before she put her fiancé before what she wanted. In a tale to find herself and her purpose in life, Allie meets new people, rediscovers old friends and tries to connect with her critical mother. This book is the perfect chick lit book for anyone who had ever lost themself in a relationship, been dumped or had a controlling mom! I can’t wait to read more from this author! |
Allison is thirty five and has everything figured out, her career and love life both were in a safe place or so she thought. She is shocked and feels betrayed when her fiancée call of their wedding and tells her he loves someone else! Her maid of honour! She is fired from her job of 12 years for reasons she couldn’t find peace with! Everything she built and dreamed about was falling apart. And a family who are more concerned about her biological clock ticking than her actual feelings. But she has her best friend who has got her back no matter what. She leans on self help books for some moral support and Eric from the Coffeehouse has some charms which helps her too! Maybe she will be able to figure it out or maybe she has actually hit rock bottom! She has got a chance to restart everything but will she be able to do that?? ✨I took more time than necessary to read this book which totally wasn’t the books fault! It’s a great story and a rather interesting characters. ✨The narration was great and the relationships were perfectly detailed! The book talks about many happy and toxic relationships. How a friend should be, how not to be and what and what not to expect at work or love life! ✨The story is nothing extraordinary, its just what happens in real life or has a chance to happen. If you think your life is messed up or if you feel like you have hit rock bottom then you should probably read this book! It sure will cheer you up! ✨when i think of Neil, that guy has no face in my imagination! I hate him that much while I couldn’t stop dreaming about Eric, he is a sweetheart. Jordan is love, she is a friend we all need and have. We just have to cherish them more❤️ |

Allison is 35 years old, she has a good job and after five years living together, is going to get married to her fiance in barely three weeks. But then one day, not different from others at the beginning, it turns out to be a turning point. First, she is fired from her job. And just when she needs her fiance's support the most, he decides to let her go too. And the icing on the cake is that the third wheel involved in the breaking up is one of her maids of honor. Until then, the story sounds sort of a cliche. Will Allison recover from this tragedy? Will she be able to get some of her life back? It's then, when the author 's magical touch upgrades this book into a very interesting trip. The characters are beautifully developed and the pace is perfect. It was such a nice read! It's my first book from this author and it will not be the last. Thank you Netgalley for the chance to read this book in exchange for an honest review. |

This book was exhilarating and confusing for me. The only thing I was clear about was the journey of self discovery that the main character went through. And the fact that this was the book which made it easy for me to get out of my reading slump. Starting with Allison, I really loved how her character developed throughout the book. While the book did start with a tragedy, I am so happy that the major focus of it wasn't Romance. Honestly, that was a big relief for me because at the end of the day in a lot of romantic comedy it comes down to romance and not self discovery. So many plus points for that!! So I'll give a brief description - Allison loses her job one day before her 35th birthday because of false rumors. Moreover, her fiance confesses that he's in love with her maid of honor when only a month is left for the wedding. Suddenly her life collapses around her and she doesn't know anything anymore. With the help of her friend Jordan, the self help book aisle at Barnes and Noble and the coffee shop owner, Eric, she's able to find herself again and the illusion that she had of having a perfect life before clears more and more. Now here's the thing, the book was really good. I absolutely loved how Allison slowly understood herself better and how she didn't lose hope at all. It was all very like Eat Pray Love, with her journeying through different levels of self discovery and understanding. The only problem, not exactly a problem but more like situation, that I had was the sudden surge towards the end. Starting from the trip to Costa Rica, everything was happening very quickly and to be honest, I was really liking the previous slow pace of the book. And there's one more thing - this book made me think a lot. Like a lot, lot. I mean I'll need two times my age to actually have a midlife crisis but it still made me question a lot of things around me. It was quite an experience! |
