Really enjoyed this installment in Zoe York's Pine Harbor series.

After becoming a teen parent, Owen Kincaid is now the single dad of an 18-yr-old daughter. As she readies to move out, he's daydreaming of turning her room into a home gym and reentering the dating game. However, Owen's daughter throws him a curve ball in the form of an unexpected grandchild. Having had a child as a teen himself, Owen is determined to give his daughter the best, all of the support that he can, and to help her navigate this next stage. What he doesn't count on is a sexy mid-wife, Kerry, that draws his attention.

Owen and Kerry clash at first, in the way that people that are drawn together and are trying to fight it clash at the start. Heated, witty banter leads to true affection, but they try to keep it professional throughout his daughter's pregnancy.

The plot is well-developed, the characters are well-written, and this is a thoroughly enjoyable book for sure. It is a complex subject matter, and it was handled very well by Ms. York.

The description of this book drew me in and I am really pleased I was allowed to read it. The characters were really well written and the pace of the story was excellent and I raced through the novel. I have not read any more books by this author but I will definitely be watching out for her novels now.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for allowing me to read a review copy.

I really enjoyed Reckless at Heart. It was nicely developed and the story grabbed me from the start. Great writing. Loved it.

“I tell myself not to put the cart before the horse, and I don’t even have a horse, you know?”

Owen and Kerry had good chemistry. Their banter, awkwardness, slow-burn romance was enjoyable. The second half of the book was engaging and therefore felt fast-paced. There was more focus on Owen’s story and his relationship with his daughter than Kerry and her journey. Their relationship development was quick but sweet and comfy. The conversations between all the Kincaid brothers were homely and entertaining. This was a meaningful book. I had fun reading it. I’m looking forward to reading Adam’s novel. I recommend ‘Reckless at heart’ for readers interested in a comfy, slow-burn romance.

ARC provided by NetGalley. Thank you.

Reckless At Heart is one of those books that will reel you in and keep you reading. It’s a sexy single dad/forbidden romance read with a twist.
Owen Kincaid is like a sexy puzzle. There are pieces to him, to his life, that will have you confused until you see how they all fit together. He’s 37 years old, divorced, big brother, paramedic, firefighter, army reservist, leader and father. His daughter Becca is 18 and pregnant making him also a grandfather. Intrigued? You should be.
Kerry is a beautiful and complex woman in her mid thirties. She’s a midwife, dedicated to her patients, and to the community at large. Her dedication to her practice has her perpetually single but her biological clock is a ticking and her thoughts have turned to having a baby of her own.
The chemistry between Owen and Kerry is a living, breathing entity that they must suppress as Becca is under her care. Watching them dance around their attraction is sexy hot and when they are finally free to indulge in their feelings your kindle will catch fire.
Their relationship is complex because they are at completely different points in their life. Owen is looking forward to being a bachelor, free of parental responsibilities while Kerry is still waiting to have her first child. Is love enough to keep these two together? Trust me when I say you need to read this book and see for yourself what Owen and Kerry’s happily ever after looks like.....TBR and Enjoy.

4.5 Stars!
Adding Zoe York to my automatic read list!
This is a great small town romance with all the characters to make a fantastic series.
The hero, Owen, is big, brooding and sexy. And watching him fall for Kerry is a pure delight. In fact, she’s so amazing, he can barely talk in her presence. LOL
Awe, the bigger they are ...
I love that the author showed divorced parents working together in the best interests of their child. No finger pointing or name calling. Just ... this is the situation ... it sucks ... what can WE do to help?
I can’t wait for the next book! Owen has brothers! Yea!

Such a grump man that Owen Kincaid! I would be grumpy as well if I had to raise a child from a young age thinking when she's off to college that I would try to live a life that I've missed out on, yet having those plans derailed. Funny how life had a different plan for him.
Having a child at eighteen is a big responsibility, raising her to the best of his ability Owen Kincaid did the best he could under many circumstances. His daughter Becca is finally at the age where moving out and attending college is the norm but when Becca confesses to being pregnant, also at eighteen, Owen's life has to be rearranged yet again.
The first half of the books is an extremely slow burn romance between Owen and Kerry, Becca's midwife, who is new to town. Having to deal with a grumpy parent, Kerry tried to stay out of his way. Every time they met, Owen would project meanness towards her, but that's because he was attracted to her and didn't know how to react.
After Becca gives birth and is released from Kerry's care, that's when the romance meeter hikes up between the two main character. And boy do they burn up the charts with their pent up feelings.
This story was entertaining to read, even the background characters had their own stories that I hope I get to read. It was beautiful to read how even though the parents were divorced, they still had respect for each other and a friendship that benefited their daughters well being.

A big thank you to NetGalley and Victory Editing NetGalley Co-Op for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is part of a series, but reads well as a stand alone. This is a cute story. It made me smile. I actually felt sorry for Owen one of the main characters. Nice dynamics and crazy complicated family. 3.5 stars

I received an ARC of this book to read through NetGalley in exchange for a fair review. Reckless at Heart by Zoe York is the first book in her The Kincaids of Pine Harbour series.
It is a small town contemporary romance that to me has the added delight of taking place in a part of Ontario that I spent a good deal of time in until recently, and it felt a bit like going home.
Owen Kincaid, former firefighter currently EMT supervisor never really got a chance to experience young adulthood. A father at 18 and guardian to his younger brothers after his parents deaths shortly thereafter he’s finally in a position to for once not be responsible for family when his 18 year old daughter informs him that she’s pregnant. Midwife Kerry Humphrey is feeling the tick of her biological clock and looking for a change decides to move to Pine Harbour when her practice opens up a satellite office there. The instant chemistry she feels for Owen just about knocks her socks off but he’s the father of a patient and it’s definitely something she can’t pursue. If you are looking for a family oriented friends to lovers, grumpy hero/sunshine heroine, small town romance story I highly recommend this one. I found it the perfect escape from 2020. Medium Steam Publishing date: June 2, 2020. #RecklessATHeart #ZoeYork #ContemporaryRomance #SmallTownRomance #bookstagram #FriendsToLovers #GrumpyHero

Actual Rating 3.5 stars
While there was nothing stand out about this book, I did enjoy reading it. It was well written, steamy in all the right places and entertaining. This book is told over about a year, with new chapters jumping forward until three-quarters through the story. This added a realistic flow to the story.

This is a spin-off of another series by the author, I haven't read any of those, but that wasn't an issue. The characters do make an appearance but only as background characters.

I received an arc of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

A bit of a slow burn (that very much ignites) due to the circumstances of the main characters. I enjoyed watching these two circle each other, realize they are strongly attracted, but can't so anything about it right away. I also enjoyed the messiness of the bleak moment and the emotional maturity of the way they worked through it. It was nice revisiting some of the characters from other Pine Harbour books (though this absolutely works as a stand-alone if you have never read them).

I was given an Advance Reader's Copy in exchange for an honest review.

I’m a pretty big Zoe York fan. I checked my Kindle and found I’ve read 18 of her books (and listened to a couple more), and have several more downloaded I haven’t read yet. When I get into a reading slump and need a solid, feel good story with mature characters and compelling stories, I’ll go find a Zoe York book.

And yet...I was nervous for this one. The last book of the Pine Harbour series was a total and complete dud for me. My faith was a little shaken.

But it’s BACK baby!

This new series - The Kincaids of Pine Harbour - will presumably be about the five Kincaid brothers - Owen, Will, Seth, Josh, and Adam. Their father passed away when Owen was just 21 (and Adam was 11), then their mother died a short six months later, forcing Owen into the role of de facto parent to his siblings. Reckless at Heart is Owen’s story.

Owen is six months away from executing his long-awaited Great Bachelor Plan. Having fathered a child with his high school girlfriend at the age of 18, his daughter Becca will be moving out of his house and going to college. Until she comes to him with the news that she’s pregnant. Never mind the plans he has to travel, and date, and turn her room into a home gym...Becca will need him and she’s the most important person in his life.

Kerry is a midwife with a new practice in Pine Harbour. She’s recently started to feel her own biological clock start ticking and sees this move as a chance to make some changes to her life. When she first meets Owen at his daughter’s first prenatal appointment, neither makes a good impression on the other.

I absolutely loved Owen. Even though he’s known in Pine Harbour as the town grump, he’s a really good man with a strong sense of responsibility. He stepped up when his parents died, and now even though all his brothers are adults and doing well on their own, he still worries about them. He’s a great father and always made co-parenting with Becca’s mother a priority, even though their marriage was short-lived. He’s spent every day of his adult years living for other people, and you can’t blame the man for wanting to start making plans for himself.

Kerry was a great heroine as well. She had a strong sense of who she is and what she wants, and wasn’t afraid to call the town grump on his grumpiness, or tell him what she wanted when they were alone together. Once she and Owen are able to get to know each other better, their chemistry is off the charts. I loved watching their relationship develop! But what happens when a woman who wants children in the near future falls in love with a man who is ready to move on to the next stage of his life?

I love, love, LOVE a story where the couple has actual issues to work through. And then they deal with them by being open and honest, and behave like mature adults. This is a pretty standard MO for Ms. York’s storylines and characters, which is why I love her books so much. She has fantastic, relatable characters dealing with realistic, relatable issues. There’s no drawn out conflict, no trumped up angst. Just real people dealing with real-life situations. And I love them. I can’t wait to read the rest of this series!

Owen became a father (and husband) at 18. The marriage didn't last, but he took his role of dad seriously. Not long after he became a father, his own parents died a few years later within months of each other and he became the legal guardian of his 4 younger brothers.

Fast forward to the time frame of this book where his brothers are grown and his daughter is scheduled to go to university in the autumn and Own is ready for some well-deserved time to himself at 37. All of his plans go out the window when his daughter announces she is pregnant and plans to raise the baby in his house.

Things don't quite go to plan when he meets Kerry, his daughter's midwife, because he experiences an instant attraction. It is a fun ride to see how long it takes them to get together and you can't help rooting for Owen to win Kerry's affections.

I really enjoyed this, I do love single dads in a romance, even with grown up pregnant daughters ! This is a great contemporary romance, love the fact it was broader in coverage of age groups than a lot of romances are nowadays, especially with such relevant issues. I adored the banter between characters and how it turns to chemistry. Just a great real romance

New to me author.
I enjoyed this one. I have found as I’ve gotten older I’m enjoying older characters more and more and this one did not disappoint.

Owen is a 37 year old single father to a 18 year old daughter who has just discovered she’s pregnant. Not exactly what he was hoping for when his daughter graduated high school. He was hoping she would move out and he could get that home gym he’s always wanted.
Kerry is a 33 year old single woman who has recently moved to this town to set up shop as a midwife. She’s Owen’s daughter’s midwife.
The chemistry between these characters were great and I really enjoyed the supporting characters.
I recommend you give this one a chance.

Reckless at Heart is different! It's not your usual guy meets girl, girl and guy fall in love novel. This is a contemporary romance, relatable to the times we live in.

I appreciate how it includes the many age ranges often excluded in most romance novels. It was a great read and I loved it.

All the feels for this story. This story touched so many emotions that I was crying near the end, which was a good cry not a bad one. Owen has not had an easy life, first he got his teenage girl pregnant, they got married had a daughter and got divorced. Then his father died, so he had to come back home and help his mom with his four younger brothers, but six months later their mom was gone. Now Owen was not only trying to help raise his daughter, but also his brothers. Now fast forward about 18 years and Owen has just heard his daughter tell him that she is pregnant.
Kerry is a midwife and is involved in a clinic with her best friend and fellow midwife, Jenna. They decide to open a branch office in Pine Harbour and one of their first clients is Owen's daughter, Becca. Sparks start flying between Owen and Kerry once she figures out that he is Becca's dad not boyfriend and once Owen realizes that he doesn't really resent Kerry he just doesn't have much practice in the dating department.
Owen's brothers are a fun and colorful group, Becca's baby's daddy is trying in more ways than one and there are common friends between Owen and Kerry, but the biggest obstacle just might be the subject of children. Read the book to see if Owen and Kerry can find an HEA together or if they are destined to only be friends.

Thanks to NetGalley, the author and Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op I was able to voluntarily read an ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

4 1/2 Stars for this down to earth story!

This is the first book that I have read by this author ... and it won't be my last!

Owen became a father and husband at the age of eighteen and even though the marriage never worked out, he was a good dad. A few years after he became a father, his dad died and six months later his mom died ... so he became the guardian to his four younger brothers. Present day: his brothers are all grown and his daughter is eighteen and heading off to college in the fall ... and Owen can't wait to become a bachelor and do all the things that bachelors do. But when his daughter becomes pregnant, all his plans go out the window and he's starting all over again with a baby in the house. When Owen meets his daughter's midwife, he is immediately drawn to her. When Kerry moves to Pine Harbour to help her friend set up a midwife practice, she never dreamed she would fall for a patient's father. And not only that, but she best describes him as a neanderthal who only knows how to grunt and scowl.

I just loved the characters in this book .., they are just so down to earth and have everyday problems. I found the banter between the characters very realistic. This book made me laugh one minute and swoon the next. Who wouldn't fall for a hunk that is a caring father with a heart of gold ... no really, who? And I loved how Kerry just went after what she wanted in life. I hope that each of Owen's brothers get a book because I just know they all have stories to be told. A great start to a new series that I would highly recommend.

Owen Kincaid is ready to embrace his bachelor life best self, dreaming of turning his 18 year-old daughter's room into a home gym and maybe, just maybe starting to date. But life has a funny way of playing with your plans as Owen finds out he's actually about to take on a new title, that of grandpa.

Owen is determined to be there for his daughter, even if some of his own experiences as a teen father cause him to worry, even if his daughter's midwife is making him have some very un-grandfatherly thoughts.

Deftly navigating issues of pregnancy, professionalism, and the hurdles life throw's in our way, this is a heartfelt and deliciously steamy romance. I adored Owen and Kerry's heated banter, figuring out they really do like each other, and fighting to stay away until it is okay for them to try. Oh the pining and the very real fear of falling in love with someone who you know is wrong for your long term plan. I always worry a bit about characters changing their mind about babies, but York did an amazing job navigating this plot point.

While York has many other romances set in Pine Harbor and other characters/couples do show up in Reckless Heart, this is an amazing place to start even for a newbie.

Thank you to Netgallely for the ARC!

This book was a four hankie cry fest for me. It gave me all the feels. Owen is responsible for - well everyone. He had a baby at 19 and also contributed significantly to raising his younger brothers. Now his daughter is pregnant at 18 - and he feels his chance at an empty nest is being deferred again.

Kerry is Owen's daughter's midwife. They are very much attracted to each other but Owen isn't very nice to Kerry at first. He doesn't know how to handle his attraction to her at the same time he feels like his life is falling apart. Kerry is attracted to Owen against her will - because he is so grumpy and pretty rude - plus closely related to her patient. When they do finally come together it is electric - but they still have a lot of hurdles to cross.

I enjoyed so much about this book - the family dynamics, the grumpiness of Owen, the supreme capableness of Kerry. I also liked that they both talked to each other and communicated well - with notable exception (that seemed kind of off to me TBH). Overall - this is a great big family, small town read.

I received this as an ARC from NetGalley, but these opinions are all my own.
