Yikes what a fantastic read this was. It hooked me in from the first page and I was gripped to the story. Absolutely loved it. |
This was one of the best mysteries I've read this so far this year, and can't wait to read some more of Jane's books in future. Recommended. |
Absolutely amazing book! What happens if the one who are supposed to be the closest people to you end up being the one you have to escape? Keeps the reader engaged and wanting to know more! One that I will be recommending to friends. |
"Meet Lauren Sykes. Her whole life, all Lauren wanted to be is safe. But her murderous father has made that almost impossible. Now she’s on the run and fleeing for her life. Her only hope is undercover cop Petra Merrow. Lauren has no choice but to trust her. It’s that or die." Honestly, I can't add much more to this other than it was slow to build, didn't leave any take-aways, was predictable, and didn't stand out for those who read numerous thrillers per year. With this noted, it was good not great, it had a few twists, it involves gangsters, rape, forced marriages, and abuse. All in all it was a book that was the first in the Merrow and Clarke, so I'm looking ahead to what more this author may reveal. Thank you to Jane, the pub, Netgalley, and Amazon Kindle for this ARC in exchange for this honest review. |

Ok so the book was good and I was really into it and then the end through me. And now I have so many questions. The plot was great but didn’t like the ending unless your planning on making a second book to pick up where this one left off. |
This story kept me on my toes! I usually don’t read “mob” books but this was light mob-ish! Wow they are brutal when they catch someone. I read this book quickly and hope there is a sequel! I rate it a 4.3 |

A good insight in to the reality of living within a family of organised crime. Lauren is a level headed and sensible girl despite fearing for her life and she gets out and manages to escape. What she'd give for a normal life never having to look over her shoulder! I enjoyed this book and will read more from this author. |

Lauren Sykes is 17 and on the run from her Dad and members of two organised crime gangs (Sykes and Perrin) both of which want her dead. The opening chapter gets you straight into the action of the story with Lauren going on the run, with Harry Prentice a retired former employee of the Sykes family. The book managed to retain my interest throughout. Well written story with plenty of action. First book in the series of Merrow and Clarke, so look forward to seeing what the next book will bring. |
Fast moving action where no-one is safe Lauren has killed a man whilst defending herself, so needs to get away from her father’s wrath. However her father is a crime lord with contacts everywhere, which means Lauren has a problem! Excitement from the first page to last, as Lauren, aged 17, goes on the run, wondering who, if anyone, she can trust. What is a 17 year old, with attitude, to do. Holed up and frighted of everyone including the police. Eventually she has to trust, but is she right to do so? This is an excellent fast moving thriller set in the UK. Safe is not going to happen, however staying ahead of her father, and being prepared, might keep Lauren alive a little longer. There was violence, but it took place “off page”. There was plenty of tension as Lauren’s father closed in, and I found myself involved in many of the characters, shocked by others, but they were all believable. Insights into crime gangs were scary, thank goodness for Det Insp. Clarke ! 4*s for this fast moving crime thriller, where the focus is on the characters and the action, rather than police methodology. This appears to be the first book in a series, but it ended with everything cleared up. This is the first book I have read by Jane Adams, I shall certainly be reading more, and am looking forward to the next book in this series as I loved the character Petra (find out why by reading the book)! |
17 year old Lauren is on the run, leaving a bloody body trail behind her. Her victim is the son of a major crime lord. Lauren is the daughter of an opposing criminal family. Both families want to find her, and kill her. She doesnt know who to trust. All she can do is run, until she can finally find a safe place. SAFE is a crime thriller, not a psychological thriller like it lured me in with. I did find the story predictable, but I was entertained. It was more back and forth with detectives then I care for. One of the murder weapons used was well thought up. I did like the uniqueness of that. This was a hard one. I went in thinking it would be more then it was. |
Safe is the first in the new series "Merrow & Clarke"by Jane A. Adams. A true crime thriller, face paced, relentless, gripping, full of tension and suspense. I'm excited to see where this series goes |
I'd like to thank Netgalley for giving me a copy of this book for me to review. I really enjoyed this crime thriller. I enjoyed it so much that I finished it too fast. I would recommend this book for anyone that enjoys a good fast paced story with a twist. I will definitely be looking into more Jane Adam's books. |

Jane Adams writes a fast paced and addictive crime thriller featuring 17 year old Lauren Sykes facing a dangerous predicament, just wanting to be safe but anything but and where the threats come from her own family. Her father is the ruthless crime lord Kyle Sykes, a man who has got away with murdering her mother, and is now demanding that she marry the vicious criminal Charlie Perrin. However, Lauren kills Charlie in self defense, and is forced to go on the run with her Uncle Harry, not knowing who she can trust, hunted both by her own father and the Perrin family, and where many police officers are corrupt. She decides to trust undercover police officer, DS Petra Merrow who when things come to head turns to DI Toby Clarke, but can he trusted. This is a gritty and well plotted crime read, with plenty of suspense and tension, and a wonderful protagonist in the Lauren who battles to survive. Many thanks to Joffe Books. |

First time reading one of Jane Adams books, and I can say I will be reading all of her other titles. Thoroughly enjoyed this book and the in-depth way that the story unfolded. At first thought it was going to be like other organised crime novels, but the story just kept on getting better as the book went on. Whilst it is a Police procedure novel, there was a balance of their police work and the actual characters and their story. Well told and couldn't put this book down. |
Thanks to NetGalley for providing me a complimentary copy of SAFE by Jane Adams in exchange for my honest review. Safe is a fast-paced thriller novel, which I thoroughly enjoyed throughout. The story follows Lauren and Harry who are on the run from Lauren’s father who is in the mob. Lauren is a really likable character and you really feel sorry for her and want to protect/help her. The relationships are written beautifully and they feel really real. The story is told from several perspectives which I feel really helps move the story forward. There are sooo many twists and turns in this book and I did not find it predictable at all. Each chapter end with a slight cliffhanger which makes you want to keep reading and find out what will happen next. This is such an easy read as it is so gripping and really interesting. If you enjoy crime thrillers then I would 100% recommend this. |

This was a nicely done thriller following the 17 year old daughter of a crime boss who kills the son of her another crime boss when he tries to rape her. That leads to a series of events where Lauren Sykes needs to run for her life from her father, the other crime boss and maybe even members of the police force. It is a book where it's not completely sure which character can be trusted and who cannot or only partially and you feel like you're on the run with Lauren, trying to make the best decisions you can to survive. I liked the pacing, main characters and the plot was solid and held my interest throughout. It seems like this will become a series and I wouldn't mind finding out what happens next. A solid 3.5 stars. *** An ARC was provided by Netgalley in exchange for a honest review *** |

Lauren Sykes is desperate to protect those helping her to escape her father and would-be father-in-law. Then depths that her father will go to to make her pay for killing the man she was arranged to marry knows no end. This book encompasses crime families, law officers and all those around them. It is a true crime thriller. Thank You to NetGalley for the chance to review this ARC. |
***I was provided an ARC of this book from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.*** ***May contain spoilers .*** Safe follows Lauren, one child/ daughter of a crime lord through her journey to get away from her father’s extensive crime ring after she kills a man she is set to marry in self-defense. This book ended up reeling me in, however, I was not invested until I was 34% of the way through the book. I’m other words, it took some time for the book to pick-up, but the action in the middle of the book almost makes it worth it. As a lover of psychological thrillers, I will say this was nothing unique and is not something I would recommend to others. Things I liked about this book: -Lauren, although only 17, has a good head on her shoulders and continues to surprise those helping her with how intuitive she is. -When it finally picks up, although the outcome could be guessed by the reader, it is action-packed for a time. -I found myself really rooting for Lauren and even though I knew I wouldn’t end in the way I didn’t want it to, I felt like k had to keep reading. Things I found to be “meh” : -It’s harder to get invested when there is no “love” and Lauren’s father found her to just be a pawn in his games. - Harry, Lauren’s uncle, had too small of a presence. I wanted more. -The ending was too predictable. Overall, if you’re a Jane Adams fan, go for it, just know you won’t be surprised. However, if you’re looking for more excitement I might look elsewhere. |
