Even if I love this series I found this instalment too slow and it didn't keep my attention.
Not my cup of tea.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine.

This is part of a series set in the Georgian time period, even though that’s only clear because were told it’s 1786 with a description of clothing. I overall liked Lady Anne in the first books in this series but in this one I found her to be a little less likable, I honestly thought she came across as annoying at times. That being said, the mystery aspect had multiple storylines and I enjoyed that part of the book. Overall a good series, pretty standard but good read if you like historical mysteries.

1786 Lady Anne Addison is staying in Bath where she is staying with her mother. She becomes aware of a medium who is the talk of Bath and visits her with a couple of friends. Not believing in the mystical she is suspicious of the woman. Then unfortunately a death occurs.
I have enjoyed the previous books in the series, but I found Lady Anne this time to be too unfeeling, and irritating. A very slow paced story and not enough of a mystery for me.
ARC was provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Ms. Hamilton pens a historical mystery with a touch of romance.
Lady Anne Addison has an eagle eye for picking up nuances, and is only interested in gossip to find out why her friends are acting strange.
A mystic, the death of Alfred, an acquaintance she had just talked at length with and more than a few odd engagements has her more than curious.
She snoops, questions her friends and is able to not only uncover that Alfred was murdered, but others were too. Unfortunately she just barely escapes with her life after confronting the murderer.
Her descriptions of Bath, the era and the people are engaging.
I requested and received a NetGalley ARC to peruse gratis and offer my opinion the same.

I love historical mysteries, like Ashley Gardner, Anne Perry or Andrea Penrose so I was looking forward to discovering a new author to follow. I could tell the story took place before the 20th century but was surprised when I read the author's afterward which stated the year as 1786. There was no sense of particular time and place. A small quibble maybe, as long other things worked. Unfortunately, this story took quite a while to get moving. There were several characters introduced but their conversations weren't particularly interesting and their personalities were pretty thin. The protaganist, Lady Anne, spent a lot of time in thought about a fiance that didn't make an appearance until the last couple of pages, which was disappointing because her description led me to believe he'd liven things up a bit. The murder picked things up enough to keep me reading but there were few surprises and there wasn't enough excitement to really involve me.

This is an extremely well written and enjoyable read. It involves historical detail, romance, and suspense. I found myself getting into the story and plot but sometimes keeping track of all the characters was difficult. It’s a nice escape from the real world and a great summer read!
