This is a great children's book and useful play on words with "Pea, Bee, & Jay" as the reader learns about friendship. This is a start of great series for emerging chapter book and series readers.

I received an ARC through NetGalley from HarperCollins Children’s. This is a great graphic novel for emerging readers. Pea is dared to roll off the farm, further than any pea has gone before. On his trip he meets some new friends (Bee and Jay) and they are all changed by meeting each other through their adventures. First in a series. Good for 1st - 3rd grade. My son read Pea and I read the other characters. Perfect!

Pea is on the quintessential journey, Bee downplays the fact that she is royalty, and Jay doesn't know he can fly. The three characters seem to be oddly matched, but definitely complement each other in this elementary graphic novel. The format will engage young readers.

A cute friendship story between a pea, a bee, and bird. Fantastic illustrations paired with lots of humor made this a quick and enjoyable read.

This was an entertaining story about what started out as a dangerous misadventure and ended with unexpected friendships and overcoming differences that can separate us.

I see what this book is trying to do, but I found it a bit boring. Pea is going on a roll and wants to roll farther than anyone. To do so he must collect a leaf from the read tree. Along the way he meets Bee, and Jay. They become friends and all move closer to be together.

This graphic novel is full of wit and humor and has vibrant colors. Pea wanders too far from home and gets blown off course, causing him to bump into new friends.

'Pea, Bee, Jay #1: Stuck Together' with story and art by Brian "Smitty" Smith is a graphic novel for young readers about three very unlikely friends.

A pea on a farm is dared to roll to a tree to find a leaf and bring it back. He runs in to a bee who seems to know it all and a jay who can't fly. A storm has blown Pea off course and Bee and Jay have decided to help the pea get home, but along the way, the all help each other and make friends.

This was a silly book with some heart. I loved all the talking things like I love all the talking things in the Muppets. The raspberries are kind of my favorites and I think they will make kids laugh out loud. This would be a fun book for any young reader.

I received a review copy of this ebook from HarperCollins Children's Books and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this ebook.

Unlikely Friends Help Each Other

This is a super cute story about how an unlikely trio came together and had some adventures. The story is told as a graphic novel and can certainly be read to a younger child or read by someone just passed the early reader stage. The main protagonist is Pea, a young pea who likes to take off on his own and roll around the farm. Although admonished by his mother not to go too far, his “friends” encourage him to cross the fence to a tree across from the farm and bring back a leaf from it as proof that he went that far. Pea can't resist but soon gets stuck on the other side when a flash storm hits. He first encounters a bee, who is friendlier than Pea would have thought, and the bee determines to help the little pea get back. As they try to do so, they meet the jay. This bird has never flown. It fell out of the nest, and that was it. They eventually make it back to the other side of the fence after having several mishaps and stumbles along the way. They decide from that day forward to be friends. The illustrations in this graphic novel are cute, with Pea making several different funny faces throughout. There is also some good humor along the way as well, some of it better appreciated by adults but much that children will enjoy as well. In its own way, it teaches a little about prejudice—as the bee thought all birds were bad and that you had to run from one as soon as you saw one and Grandpa Pea thought of honey as “bee poop”—and the importance of friendship, even if with unlikely “people.” It was fun enough that I am curious to see what the next adventures of Pea, Bee, & Jay will be.

An interesting combination of characters. This is a fun little story, though I don't know that we're going to take much away from it in terms of a lesson. There's some subtle messaging about showing off and thew ways ta\hat we find value in ourselves and others. Mostly though it's a simple adventure. The illustrations are strong with vibrant colors. This should appeal to early elementary readers

Loved the first book in this new early reader graphic novel series from Brian Smith. It will be a PERFECT fit for those reluctant readers at the 2-3 grade level. It's chock-full of punny humor, colorful illustrations and a fun surprise ending.

When Pea sets out rolling one morning, determined to meet the dare his friends gave him, he gets caught in a storm and ends up lost. Along his journey, he meets studious, secretive Bee and naive insecure Jay. Together, they help one another find their way home.

Thanks to Netgalley, Brian Smith and HarperCollins for an early copy to review.

It's such a cute graphic novel for the younger reader. The story is cute and simple and made even better by the illustrations and the PBJ analogy. Absolutely love this book!

The illustrations in this book are perfectly fine, but they in no way make up for the lack of substance. I don't even find any of the characters remotely likeable. Will kids enjoy this? They probably will, but I think there are better choices out there.

Although the premise of this book is good, I thought that the story took too long to get moving. It was difficult to ascertain just why rolling all the way to the tree was a big deal. There was nothing to compare it to nor could you tell that it was off the farm. The book did become more interesting when Pea met Bee. I did like the fact that Bee was the runaway queen and that she just wanted to do her own thing. However, most of the interactions between the characters seemed stilted and forced.

This is a hilarious graphic novel about family and friendship. Pea, Bee, and Jay all have a mission that they can't complete without help from each other. While on their mission they learn who their true friends are and how much they mean to their families. Wonderful, colorful graphics enhance the reading experience.

While a cute and clever title, this book seems derivative.
The characters do not go together.

Thanks for the ARC.

This book was so cute and even made me giggle out loud! I thought there were plenty of silly moments to keep a young reader engaged as well as some new vocabulary for readers to encounter. The pictures are hilarious and the wide array of characters are bright and cheery. It was funny and charming and had a great story and even a surprise twist! Highly recommend for a K-2 classroom.

A fun silly story about friendship and problem solving with friends. I laughed a lot while reading this and can't wait for more of this trio's adventures. I especially loved Pea's determination throughout the story.

Simple early reader graphic novel. Great for teaching personification. Younger kids will enjoy it more than older kids.
