One of my favorites in the series!! Slaughter has done it again! If you love Will Trent, you will not be disappointed. The narrator of this audio is excellent as well! Thank you Net Galley and Berkley Publishing for the chance to review. |
This audiobook was well produced and had excellent narrations. This book is the 10th iteration of the Will Trent series. This is a solid detective drama with characters you care about. |
While I am a huge fan of Karen Slaughter, I have not delved into the world of Will Trent or Jeffrey Tolliver before this one. Psychological thriller is my go to genre, but not so much from the detective side of things. With that said, this was a great book, with full characters, and a nice flow to the story line. Be warned however, this book is based on violent crimes towards women, and is quite disturbing on more than one occasion. I did this on audio, which brought a slight drawback. The story flip flops between two time periods, but with most of the same crimes being either new, or re-investigated, depending which time period you were in.. If you didn't pay attention to chapter changes, you might get caught like I did with a frequent, wait what? I didn't love the narration of this book at first, but can say she did mostly grow on me. One exclusion was the voice change for current times police chief Amanda. Sounded too much like Roz from Monsters Inc, so I just kept thinking "I'm watching you, Wazowski, always watching" If you don't know what that sounds like, please take the time to google it! Anyway, overall, I truly enjoyed this novel, and liked how it ended. The last 3 hours of listening was basically non-stop as everything came together. Thank you Netgalley and Blackstone Audiobooks for the opportunity to listen to this ARC! |
This was my first experience with a Karin Slaughter book. I really enjoyed it. I usually figure out mystery books, but I was surprised by the end of this book. I look forward to reading more of her work. |

I'm a huge fan of Slaughter and this series and she did not disappoint. This book alternated between past and present, tying together a current case from the Will Trent series with an older case from the Grant County series. I was really impressed by how Slaughter interwove the characters we know from both, keeping true to who they are while revealing new information as well. While her murders are typically pretty violent, she's created a truly horrifying serial killer in this one and the work of both the Grant County force and the GBI to uncover what he's done and find him before he strikes again kept me up reading; I couldn't put it down. I listened to the audiobook and was really impressed by narrator Kathleen Early. I've listened to her narrate all the books in the Grant County and Will Trent series and am always engaged by her pacing and variations in accent and speech pattern that really help me visualize each character. It was incredible to me that for this book, she not only did that for the Will Trent cast of characters, but also resurrected many of the Grant County characters thirteen years after the series ended, juggled them seamlessly, and nailed her delivery of all of them consistently with how she voiced them in previous installments. Thanks to NetGalley for providing me with an audio ARC in exchange for an honest review. |

“She realized that the thing that was lodged inside her skull was a hammer”. As someone who read all the Grant Series and Will Trent books, this gives you all the feels. The relationships building through past and present is beautifully entwined. A must read!!! |
This is my first foray into Karin Slaughter's writing and it most definitely won't be my last. Even though this is the tenth installment of the Will Trent series, this book easily read as a standalone novel. From start to finish, this is a high octane thriller that is full of so many twists and turns as Will and his partner Faith race against time to find a serial killer. I found both Will's and Faith's characters compelling and enjoyed their dynamic partnership. |
The Silent Wife by Karin Slaughter is the newest installment in her Will Trent series. This book follows along with Will as he attempts to solve the latest murder committed by what is looking like a serial killer. He and his partner are racing to discover who the culprit is before another murder is attempted. Will is also deep into some relationship issues with his girlfriend so that adds to his stress. Lots of action to move this story along. I listened to it and thought the narrator did an excellent job giving each character their own voice without being too overly dramatic. Read and enjoy! |
GBI Detective Will Trent and his partner Faith Mitchell are called to the scene of the aftermath of a prison riot. While investigating the murder of one of the inmates, another comes forward insisting he can help identify the killers and an inside scheme involving contraband but will cooperate only if they will investigate the assault of a young woman eight years ago that he was accused of committing. It’s a case that involved Jeffrey Tolliver and his team in Grant County and this prisoner is accusing him of deliberately framing him. The case will challenge Will in so many ways, especially as he’ll have to include Sara Linton, the medical examiner and his girlfriend who was married to Tolliver until five years ago when he was murdered. Oh, this brought back so many memories, both good and bad. I loved the Grant County series (essential to read before starting this one!!!) with all its boils and interesting characters. I had a love/hate relationship with Jeffrey throughout but came to adore him by the last book. He’s not at his finest here as the story shifts between the past and present, focusing on the case from eight years ago and one that Will and Faith are investigating that's remarkably similar. It’s also not a retread of old ground as the assault occurred during that time when Sara and Jeffrey had divorced and weren’t on civil terms. Jeffrey is remembered with such a halo in present day that it was jarring to recall that time when he most definitely hadn’t earned that distinction and had a much different reputation. The case was intriguing but what really enthralled me was the personal angles involving Will and Sara’s relationship and the turmoil involved in having to confront his insecurities about Jeffrey’s memories and her unresolved feelings. It’s riveting stuff, raw and discomforting most of the time. And don’t get me started about the confrontation between Lena Adams, Will and Faith. That scene will stand as a classic. The narrator’s performance, always stellar, was just beyond outstanding as she nailed so many of the main characters’ personalities and nuances. I’ll never read this series again because of what Kathleen Early brings to the audio version. I had really high expectations for this book and it still beat them. It was 18+ hours of audiobook bliss. |
This was my first Karin Slaughter book, and I already can't wait to read her entire backlist. I knew going into this book that Slaughter writes violent and gritty crime novels, and this one certainly delivered on that. Trigger warnings for murder, rape, child abuse, child molestation (not on page), necrophilia, death of a loved one, extreme violence/body gore. It's clear from reading this book that characters and research are Slaughter's strong point. This was my introduction to these characters, who have all been around for many books at this point, but I found it so easy to catch on to their back stories and get pretty attached to them. I loved seeing the dynamic of Will and Sara's relationship in the present day, along with the dysfunction of Sara and Jeffrey's relationship in the past. I loved Will in particular-I feel like we didn't really see much of his personality in this book, but that could be because this is book 10 in the series and he's (presumably) been developed throughout those books. But, meeting him in this book immediately made me check out the first book in this series from the library, and I can see myself bingeing it and the rest of Slaughter's back list. While the plot wasn't anything particularly new, I still thought it was so strong and intriguing, and I devoured the 18 hour long audiobook. I didn't at all see the reveal coming, and I thought it was brilliant how Slaughter built up the reveal through both of the timelines. I'd definitely recommend picking this one up! *Thanks very much to the publisher for providing my copy of the book via Netgalley!* |
Pretty good audiobook narration and felt long. Excellent story overall for the suspense crime genre. Looking forward to recommending! |

Karin Slaughter has a knack for writing novels that are truly dark, disturbing, and compelling. This newest novel is no exception. It’s told in alternating narratives of a present search for a possible serial killer and that killer’s beginnings eight years prior. The narration in the audio version was well done. Kathleen Early manages to modulate her voice enough to make characters’ dialogue distinguishable without resorting to tricks. |

Another edge of your seat mind-twisting thriller from Karin Slaughter read to you by the perfect voice for her stories. Totally love this story and the narrator made me feel as if Ms. Slaughter herself was reading it. |
Will and Sarah are back for another riveting adventure. I listened to this book and what a great way to do it. Part of the GBI series. the author, as always, delivered a story that had you terrified at each turn. The narrator did such a convincing job of each character's speech and inflections which truly added to the entire experience. You know that the author has certainly researched all the subject matter because of the vivid and detailed description of the routines and tasks that law enforcement undertakes. The juxtaposition of the bloody murders and attacks of young women alongside the intense relationship between Will and Sarah provide a reading experience that doesn't let you put the book down. I've read other books in the GBI series and can't wait to finish them all. |
The Silent Wife is my first Karin Slaughter read. Slaughter’s expert handling of the dialogue immediately pulled me into the story. The Silent Wife deals with a violent attack of a young woman as she jogged through the woods. As the investigation gets underway, the investigators believe this attack parallels a crime some years ago. I was quickly drawn into the Silent Wife. And even though, I have not read the earlier books in this series, I was mesmerized by this chilling crime thriller. I am now a Karin Slaughter fan and I can’t wait to read more of her novels. |
Karin Slaughter consistently writes in-depth, exciting books and this definitely fit the bill. This is a part of a long-running series, however it reads well as a stand-alone too. The characters are authentic and well-drawn and the plot moves along quickly. I had the twist figured out early on, but this did not take away from my overall enjoyment. The narrator was excellent and I liked the portrayal of different voices. |
I love Karen Slaughter and this is her twentieth book. It is also part of the GBI (Georgia Bureau of investigation) series with agent Will Trent and coroner Sara Linton. A couple at work and at home, these two are my favorite characters in a mystery series. Why doesn't someone make a tv show of these stories already? The Silent Wife didn't disappoint either. Hurled headlong into the action, I read with trepidation as a college student takes an early morning run. She is angry at her roommates for eating all of her healthy food and hopes to get rid of some of her angst by exercising. Before she leaves, Becky realizes that someone has taken her broken hair clip that was her mother's. Her roommate knows how important the clip is to Becky and swears she didn't take it. Anyone who knows about serial killers and their penchant for keeping souvenirs (which is all of us at this point) knows that this is foreshadowing. Fans of the Grant County series will be thrilled to learn that this a step back in time to an earlier murder case with Chief Tolliver. The "Chief" as an annoying GBI friend calls him, Jeffrey is working on a potential serial killer case. Sara and his marriage has just fallen apart because of his infidelity. This case and the new murder are connected and it's up to Will and Sara to figure it out. Meanwhile, Sara is confronted with her past feelings for her deceased husband and Will's jealousy. This is a magnificent continuation of Sara and Will's story and a shocking murder mystery. Slaughter, well named, has done it again! |
Brutal, shocking, and moments of humor peppered in- if you’ve ever read her books, you know I’m talking about Karin Slaughter. “ Atlanta, Georgia. Present day. A young woman is brutally attacked and left for dead. The police investigate but the trail goes cold. Until a chance assignment takes GBI investigator Will Trent to the state penitentiary, and to a prisoner who says he recognizes the MO. The attack looks identical to the one he was accused of eight years earlier. The prisoner’s always insisted that he was innocent, and now he’s sure he has proof. The killer is still out there. As Will digs into both crimes it becomes clear that he must solve the original case in order to reach the truth. Yet nearly a decade has passed—time for memories to fade, witnesses to vanish, evidence to disappear. And now he needs medical examiner Sara Linton to help him hunt down a ruthless murderer. But when the past and present collide, everything Will values is at stake…” This is a MUST READ for fans of thrillers and for Slaughter fans. A million thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to review this audiobook in exchange for an honest review. My opinions are my own. Definitely a five star read. |
This book should also come with trigger warnings for rape because she describes it in great detail. I liked this book but I honestly could have done without all the relationship drama, that may be because I hopped into this series on the 10th book and I am not understanding the relationships but this book could have been half as long without all the personal stuff. There were times I just wanted them to get back to the killer. This book was just ok for me because of all the personal stuff that I didn’t understand but if you have been reading this series since the beginning you will probably enjoy it way more than I did. The reveal was good. Like I said the mystery itself was good but even that I felt like I might need to have read the previous books. Kathleen Early as always does a great job at the narration! 3 Stars 4 star narration I received this audiobook from Blackstone Audio and Netgalley for a fair and honest review. |

This was the first time ive ever listened to an audiobook! The narrator was fine, reminded me a little of the GPS voice. It helped that she changed her voice for each character so it was easier to tell who was speaking. I have heard that Karin Slaughter was a great thriller writer and is very popular, so I was excited that I could get this title. This book was a miss for me. Its half murder mystery, half relationship trouble. I didnt care about Sara and Will and Geoffrey, I just wanted to know who the killer was. I thought it was odd that we kept going back to the past where they were still trying to pin Nesbitt when we already knew it wasnt him? From the other reviews I see, it looks like this was more popular among people who had read previous stories with these characters. As someone coming into it new, it missed the mark. I didnt like who the killer was once it was revealed. It wasn't like the clues slowly added up and you got to go "oh!" when he's named, they were all revealed within a few chapters and it felt forced. |
