After reading a description of this book by Margaret Murphy, I decided to read it. This is my first book by her. The main character, Casey Rowen, is a combination of Ripley (Aliens) and Lara Croft. Or, if you want to compare her to a male counterpart, she's like Dirty Harry (Clint Eastwood) and Ziva David (Cote de Pablo - NCIS). The only problem with Casey is her impulsiveness in that she acts before she thinks which causes her a lot of headaches (literally).

This was certainly intense and I couldn't help but be drawn to her character. Casey was faced with 2 plots going on and trying to decide which one to solve wasn't easy. Her partners, Finch and Wick, were unsupportive when she was in pursuit of suspects. Ms. Murphy's characters, (and there were many), are so well defined that you empathize with some and hate others. It's also difficult to tell you about the book because I don't want to spoil it for anyone. It is a crime thriller with many twists and turns.

This writer is from the UK and it was difficult at times to understand some of the words. The beauty of this book is that Joffe (publishing house) also adds a dictionary at the end of the book to explain words. I'm definitely hooked on UK mystery thrillers now. Read it! You'll enjoy it!

Thank you to Net Galley And Joffre Books for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This is the first book I’ve read by this author. It has all the ingredients for a gripping suspense novel but sadly, I didn’t love it.
I found Cassie unlikeable but I did enjoy the chapters of Alan Palmer.
I like the chapters jumping from person to person and the book is well written.

I received a free ebook of this title in exchange for a fair review.

This is the first in a new series featuring a somewhat loose cannon DC Cassie Rowan and a therapist, Alan Palmer.  In this introduction to the series, Rowan is being used as bait to try to trap a serial rapist on the streets.  The rapist moves through several victims as the book progresses.  Meanwhile, Alan Palmer has some patients that seem likely suspects and that draws him into this case.  Both Cassie and Alan have side plots concerning their personal lives that allow the readers more of a glimpse into who they are and perhaps why they act and react as they do.

Well written plot with plenty of possible suspects to sift through alongside Cassie.  There is also a strong recurring vein of blatant misogyny in both Cassie's treatment by her co-workers and in the treatment of rape victims and prostitutes.  Great start to a new series.

An intense difficult read emotionally and literally. The book is engrossing, well written and properly researched, with a strong upfront female lead Rowan and a psychiatric analyst Mr. Palmer who have an interesting dynamic together and it's good to see this book is the first in a series by them.
Series of women are abducted, tortured, raped and returned scarred emotionally and physically for lifetime. Rowan works undercover as a night call girl trying to catch the culprit who aimed mostly street girls.
You will keep guessing and questioning your guess following the suspects the book suggests.
It is bad, really bad that the world has the sort of the Furman, or whoever is the sick, serial rapist and murderer..but what's million times worse is the presence of the sort of Wicks, and even Finch and Alex..The Furman isn't the norm, the world doesn't have them all around you, in your workplace even in your own home and they could and must be stopped and convicted for life..but what enraged me and made me want to throw the book away in anger couple of times are the likes of Wicks, Alex and Finch..these men are in our lives, they exist everywhere and they get away with it. sad but true. I wish books like this can make a change to stop the poisonous effect of such men. I wish the second book in the series redeem Rowan's right and condemns Wicks, it's outrageously unfair to let him off the hook easily.
Thanks NetGalley, Joffe Books and Margaret Murphy for providing a free copy to review. I am looking forward to the second book.

3.5 stars

This is I think the first in a series, and I was glad to see that (at the end,in other books by this author).
As the story unfolded I really liked the two main characters and their interactions with each other.
Also, they both have enough emotional baggage to throw a spanner in the works for a few books yet to come.
The storyline of a serial rapist was fast paced and had enough tension to keep me turning pages and reading the book in one sitting.
There were a few things I felt just distracted me from the main story, but everything tied together nicely.
Definitely be looking out for book 2. (

Thank you NetGalley and Joffe Books for the eARC.
This book is well written and obviously well researched, but I think I've now reached my limit as far as serial killer thrillers are concerned. There are only so many reads on the subject, then they all seem to become overly familiar. For readers who are fans of the genre, it would probably be an intense and enjoyable book, but it wasn't for me. Maybe it's time for something more uplifting.

Exceptional good read.
Working girls been attacked on the streets of Liverpool. This is someone a size ten shoe, wearing a hoodie and scarf.
The first in the Rowan and Palmer series with such strong characters.
So much going on throughout the read . I enjoyed and loved all this book
