Bree and Jill are long time best friends and have helped each other through widowhood and a possible cancer scare in a small coastal town in Maine. Still, they have kept secrets from each other and their family members that are revealed by the end of the story. There is a dash of romance and humor to make this an enjoyable afternoon off read. |
This book is a little more serious than your usual beach read, in that the main character, Bree, is facing a cancer diagnosis at the beginning of the story and with her dear friend, Jill, decides to put together a sort of "anti bucket list." Gets you thinking about life and how precious it can be. |
I received an ARC from Forever (Grand Central Publishing) through NetGalley for an honest review. Friends Like Us is a wake-up call. Bree had a cancer scare and decided she was going to step outside her comfort zone. So she and her best friend Jill made an anti-bucket list. We see how life changes once you have a wake-up call and life does change when you have a wake-up call. This book to me is a wake-up call without me actually having a real wake-up call. A chance for me to think about my life and what changes I would make. Bree, Jill, and all their friends think about their life after Bree's wake up call and I hope you read the book to see how life changed for all of them, plus think about your own life. |

Bree and Jill are best friends. Bree decides to have an anti-bucket list after her breast cancer scare. She checks one of her list by having a fling with someone from the bar. Bree thinks she will not see him again except he is helping his brother renovate her house. Jill has been mourning her husband’s death and can’t move on. She puts on a good front for everyone but blames herself and carries a burden about his death. Both women need to move on. I enjoyed this story. It is part of a series, but can be read as a stand alone. Thank you to NetGalley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for the E-ARC. This is my own opinion. |
This was a beautiful chick lit book! I loved Bree and Jill! Their friendship. The way this story unfolds is amazing. Great book. Awesome writing! amazing characters. Loved it! |
Bree & Jill open the story while waiting for medical test results from Bree. The time gives them the opportunity to decide that they need to grasp their opportunities within life and live life fully. The book walks through Jill's reopening of her art gallery, along with the feelings she's working through after the loss of her husband, and a strained relationship with her mother. Bree has a fling with a handsome man passing through town and then is surprised to find him popping in to her life more than she expected. This is a nice chick-lit book. I saw that it is the 2nd in a series, but it stood alone just fine. |
I received an advance copy of, Friends Like Us, by Sarah Mackenzie. Bree and Jill are fiends, but one has a secret. I thought this book was ok. I could not relate to the characters. |
