This is the first Sydney and Taylor book I have read, but I have already requested the first book from my library (Sydney and Taylor Explore the Whole Wide World) and look forward to Sydney and Taylor and the Great Friend Expedition coming next year. The illustrations in this early reader are adorable, although I will enjoy seeing them in printed form since the digital ARC did not always align the text and illustrations. 
In this story, Taylor the hedgehog wants to fly, which his practical friend Sydney (a skunk) informs him is impossible. Undaunted, Taylor seeks help elsewhere, making one attempt after another, and expressing his disappointment in Sydney's lack of encouragement.  Like many friendship stories, these two experience disagreement, but come together in the end, as true friends always do. It is a sweet, reassuring, funny story that beginning readers can enjoy independently.  Fans of Frog & Toad, Charlie & Mouse, and Henry & Mudge will love this new series, which is perfect for K-2nd graders.

Sydney and Taylor are two fun-loving creatures who always make everything an adventure! The quirky but loving relationship between these two friends makes this a must-read. An adorable book about a skunk and a hedgehog who are best friends. Taylor is a hedgehog who wants to fly like a bird. Sydney keeps telling Taylor that he can't fly. Taylor tries many methods of flying, but it is Sydney who brings Taylor's "Big Idea" to fuition. Of course, there are complications with the plan, and Taylor has to come up with one more "Big Idea" to save the day.

Delightful and a great book for early chapter readers. I have put this on the list of things to give as a birthday gift.

I received a digital ARC through NetGalley from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Children’s. This chapter book is good for ages 6-8 who are just starting to gain confidence as chapter book readers. Stanley the Skunk and Taylor the Hedgehog are the best of friends who support each other. Taylor wants to fly, but Stanley tells him hedgehogs can’t fly. Through trial and error, Taylor experiments with flying and by the end the two friends see the benefits of being a supportive team. Wonderful color illustrations. My son loved this and doesn’t want to wait till 2022 for the book in the series.

A great book appropriate for elementary, virtual school, or home use. Thoroughly enjoyed by my second graders.

Sydney & Taylor Take a Flying Leap is an adorable early reader book. The two best friends live in a burrow, and Sydney the skunk is a bit more reserved while Taylor the hedgehog is full of "Big Ideas". When Taylor decides he wants to fly, he consults a variety of other animals on how to make this wish come true. Great story about friendship, and supporting your best friend no matter how crazy their big idea might seem. Beautiful illustrations make this story a treat to read.

The author's series The Lemonade War has been very popular with 3rd and 4th grade readers, as well as their teachers.  Many of the titles were nominated for New Hampshire's "Cochecho Readers Award".  I'm sure this (I hope series) will delight new "readers".

What do you do when you know you re meant to fly, but you are a hedgehog without wings? This is a sweet tale of friendship, along the lines of Frog & Toad or Elephant & Piggie. Fully color illustrated, this book walks the line between early chapter books and easy reader in a helpful bridge.

An adorable book, in the spirit of Mo Willems’ Today I Will Fly!, features the now beloved hedgehog and skunk as the hedgehog is determined to fly. Engaging and humorous, this story will appeal to young readers.

This was a sweet story of how a “Big Dreamer” and a realist can be best friends while supporting and defending each other.

What a lovely 'story for early readers! Sydney and Taylor have always been friends and shared their ideas, but this big idea seems too big. One friends has his feelings hurt and reaches out to his purge friends to help. In the end, the friends find a way to all support one another. Sweet story of friendship, perseverance and commitment.

What do a porcupine and a skunk have in common? They are truly an unlikely pair, but Sydney and Taylor make their friendship work. Taylor's ideas are always a bit out of reach, yet Sydney is always there to help put them into action. With patience and persistence, Taylor the hedgehog is determined to fly through the sky. Colorful illustrations  by Deborah Hocking lend in a hand in assisting readers to connect and fall in love with these two characters. Series is reminiscent of Cynthia Rylant's Mr. Putter and Tabby books as well as Frog and Toad Series.

This story was straight forward, and good for readers who are looking for relatable characters and straight-forward stories while they gain confidence as readers. I will be waiting to see what the official reviews are for the series before I make a purchasing decision. I am not sure this book is a high-draw book, but definitely has appeal for the right reader.

What a cute book about friendship.  It is silly at times and exciting at times.  The illustrations will make you smile and the book will make you laugh.  It is a great early chapter book for kids.  I will be adding the Sydney and Taylor collection to my library.  Very fun!

Sydney and Taylor remind me a lot of Elephant and Piggie, in the Mo Willems books. 

Sydney wants to be a good friend, and encourage his friend, but he is also honest, and he really doesn’t think that Taylor will fulfil his dream of being able to fly.  He does what any good friend would do…he’s there for Taylor whether he succeeds or fails. I like books for young readers when friendships get tricky and friends argue or disagree, this is a fact of life, and it’s nice to see characters dealing with this and working through it, and they’re still friends in the end.

On one level it’s a lovely, first chapter book, with vibrant full colour illustrations. Young readers will love  the themes of humour, friendship and determination.

The teacher, that’s still inside me, can see another layer to this seemingly simple story.
Taylor wants to be the World’s First Flying Hedgehog.  The only problem is…hedgehogs don’t fly.  So what does fly?  This is where this book could lead into a whole discussion about flight.  We know birds fly, but what else flies?  This book gives us some of those answers and provides a great springboard into finding out more.

A cute little tale of a skunk named and Sydney and Taylor the hedgehog.  Taylor had a big idea.  He wanted to fly.  Now we all know hedgehogs do not fly. At first Sydney laughed at Taylor and wasn't a good friend. So Taylor asked the birds for some help.  They got a blanket and asked Taylor to sit in the middle, but that didn't turn out well. Some other friends had ideas and tried to help but those ideas didn't turn out well either.  Taylor was upset at Sydney because he has not been supportive of this big idea.  You will have to read the book to find out if a hedgehog ever gets to fly.  The illustrations in this story are great and add so much to the story.

This series is soooooo cute! I am loving the interaction of Sydney and Taylor.  They are so fun.  The illustrations are gorgeous!  I can’t wait for more of this series!

This next installment of the Sydney and Taylor series is delightful. I love the delicate, but straightforward, way that the author shares lessons of being a good friend., being yourself, and achieving your dreams. I'll definitely be adding this one to my early reader collection!

Taylor has a BIG IDEA! His friend Sydney usually supports Taylor's big ideas, but not this time. He thinks it is too dangerous and doesn't want to see his friend hurt. Young readers will love this story of perserverance and friendship. The illustrations by Deborah Hocking are beautiful and compliment the story. This is a great early chapter book for those transitioning readers.

I will most definitely be recommending this book to my emerging chapter book readers.  This will fit perfectly with Ricky Ricotta, Chicken Squad, Princess in Black and Frog and Toad.  Skunk and Hedgehog are friends and friends help each other out.  But what about when a friend wants to do something "impossible"?  Read this lovely book about finding solutions to problems together.
