I didn't really enjoy this collection at all - neither the stories nor the narrators. The stories felt like they were shopping lists recited, with no soul or atmosphere. I feel the intention was to recreate Ray Bradbury and other masters of the absurd but sadly it fell flat for me.

Untold Mayhem is a book with different horror stories each with a different narrator. Some more gruesome than others. Mark Tullius does a great job at keeping the reader intent on staying with the story until the end. Some stories were better than the others only because some of them were a little predictable. I love horror stories and these did not disappoint at all. The writer does an amazing job at keeping the suspense until the end of each one. I do think these stories would be great for high schoolers.

Thank you netgalley as well as the author/publisher for allowing me to read this book in exchange for my honest review.

These short stories had various narrators and I found some easier to listen to than others but I felt that they all did a good job. My favourite stories were the Season, Pillow Talk and Numbered Days. I didn't like Gone for Good and The mirror as I felt that they were trite and quite predictable.
They were each quite gruesome in their way and had the effect of making you feel a little uneasy. If you were looking for some nice short Halloween stories then you definitely should read/listen to these.
Warning: these are adult tales and some have graphic depictions of rape, murder, suicide and other atrocities.

Just ok. I think I expected more from this group so I was disappointed. There wasn't anything 'bad' about it, but there wasn't anything great either. I could take it or leave it.

This audiobook was a good collection of stories that are perfect for Halloween. They range from believable to fantastical but were well done. There were a couple that were more gruesome than I expected but overall, this collection was more clever in its inferences than the outright statements of what was happening. I think the one that struck me most by surprise was The Season, narrated by Landon Woodson. That was well done in both chilling nature of the topic and how it was narrated. It will stick with me.
The other narrators were a good match for their respective stories as well. They all did a great job and kept me listening. My other favorite is Chris Andrew Ciulla whose voice is wonderful for audiobooks and I adore listening to his work. The story Numbered Days was read by Michael David Axtell and my only criticism of this one is that I wanted more information about the backstory leading to this current situation.

I LoveLOVED this shory story collection by Mark Tullius. I listened to it as a recorded book, and the narrators were all appropriate for the stories they read. Very talented group! It's is difficult to end a short story, and the author didn't miss a beat; every story was solid. I'm not sure how appropriate it all is for my 9th and 10 graders, but the 11th and 12th graders will devour it. (And if the youngers want to read it, then let them; it's quality storytelling.)

I think because it isn't my usual fare, I really enjoyed the twists, turns, surprises, and unnerving gore.

Glad I experienced this book as an audiobook. There were a few standout stories that really got the hairs on the back of my neck standing up but the majority of them were just clever. About a 3.5 rating. I enjoyed it and would read more anthologies of this nature.

Exceptional for a select few stories, the book didn't leave much of an impact. It was a long book with not so scary horror stories. Special mention to the narrators for doing a great job though. I really liked the one with college shooting, one with the scary house monster.

After being really excited to have been given the opportunity to read this book I was quite disappointed with it. There was unexpected gore and although I am not apposed to bad language within a book I felt it was there just for the sake of it. After quite enjoying the first two stories it really stopped holding my attention. and 55% through listening to it I realised that could not tell anyone what most of the previous stories were about. I did wonder if the printed version may hold my attention more but there would still be the gore and unexpected language.

I would like to thank the publisher for the opportunity to listen to this book but it just wasn’t for me.

I love short story books/audiobooks and this book was no exception. At the point of writing this review I currently only have a few short stories left and have not been disappointed. I have not once guessed the outcome of any of the stories and have found myself freaked out a few times by the thoughts and plots authors can come up with. I personally think this would be better as a physial book (however not crutial as narrator's voices are creepy too!) as I find I get more creeped out reading rather than audiobook. However overall very clever and creepy.

Thank you NetGalley for this audiobook! I thought overall the voice acting was really great throughout the stories. I liked how there were a lot of different voice actors versus just one or two reading all of the stories. It made it more dynamic and intriguing to listen to. Some of the stories were really creepy and enjoyable. Others were just meh. Overall I enjoyed the short stories and some still stick out in my mind. 3.5 stars rounded down to 3.

Delicious and naughty.

These stories remind me of Sudden fiction, stories that happen in about a page because they jump right in and own you.

These are fabulous stories. They are fun and naughty and dangerous.

I was curious how short stories would work as audio books. The answer is they are fabulous.

Firstly I want to thank Netgalley for allowing me to read/listen to this book.

It is a very rare thing for a collection of stories to score higher than 4 stars as there is usually a weaker story that lets it down, but I genuinely liked every story in this 24 story horror collection. I wouldn't go so far as to say I enjoyed every story, as some really lived up to the tagline 'An Assortment of Violence', but each was well written and intriguing. Mark Tullius definitely has a gift for the macabre, finding it in even the most innocent of places.

The choice of an assortment of narrators was a fantastic choice, especially with the dark tone throughout, hearing a different voice at the start of each story helped by adding new energy to the listening experience.

The stories that I particularly loved were:
In the Cards: This was a solid intro into the book, letting you know exactly what to expect.
The Hole: This story gave me serious goosebumps vibes, and I loved it!
Exposed: Exposed kept me guessing throughout, which is impressive in a 14-minute format.
No Service: This was a brilliant story that I kept thinking about after.
The Season: I loved how this was unwrapped to the reader.
Dead Spot: This particular story gave me CSI vibes, which is a favourite T.V show of mine.

Alongside violence against men and women, some stories contain terms that could be considered (or are outright) fatphobic, racist, and misrepresentative of mental health. Whilst they work within the confines of the stories, a warning should be in order if any of the above makes you severely uncomfortable.

Overall I will definitely look to pick up something by Mark Tullius again in the future.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This audiobook was fantastic. Just the right amount of gore and creepy factor. I enjoyed the narrators of this audiobook and felt they gave the appropriate amount of life to the stories. These tales were just the right amount of length to listen to. Keeping the attention of the listener without dragging out the story. I do want to point out that some of the stories could’ve been longer because I was completely engaged.

Crime, horror, gore, underhandedness etc is encased in these 24 stories.

I was given an advanced audio copy of this from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This is a must listen to for any horror fan!

Happy reading!

This was a fun collection of spooky stories. Good narrator, good stories. Definitely would recommend. Not overly scary but spooky fun!

I’m not usually a fan of short stories but I really enjoyed these!
Dark, violent and perfectly written so you don’t feel like you are missing anything with them being only a few pages long. As a set of short stories you probably won’t like them all (I liked some more than others) but the way they kept you guessing was great and karma definitely is a bitch! 😂😂
This is a multiple cast of narrators and all were great and added to the story, really enjoyed listening to all.. I’d love to read more from this author.

It was quite scary and different New style for me Not the sort of thing I would usually choose to listen to but I enjoyed listening to something new.

Okay, I did not know this would be so dark and gory. Some of the stories I liked, they were twisty and creepy, but some were over the top with carnage and I didn't like them as much. In one story, a guy's head pops off, ew! They didn't link together, which I was kind of bummed about. I think I would have enjoyed this more if there was a common character or this built toward something, but the stories are all independent, with maybe two having a small connection.

I think my favorite was the pedophile who got what he deserved, it was a good revenge story. I also liked the creepy ones where a monster lurked just out of sight. The stories where an innocent person was murdered by a crazed killer were my least favorite.

I received this audiobook from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I listened to this in one sitting. The stories are great and I love how they have different narrators, and each narrator fit each story very well.

Trigger warning tags might not be entirely accurate for this book due to the length and my memory. Please contact me if you are worried about a tag not included on the post and I will do my best to find out for you.

Untold Mayhem is a fantastic collection of 24 horror stories and a cast of 6 narrators, making for a brilliant audiobook experience. Each new story will rotate to another narrator so it's really easy to keep track of, and the change in voice means you are compelled to pay attention as well. As for the stories themselves, there is a huge range and a lot to enjoy for horror fans. I will say that several of the stories get really graphic on different aspects (sexual, violent, disgusting etc) so this is not for the faint of heart. However, I found it relatively easy to skip over the aspects less appealing to me.

I am struggling to get a complete list of the titles of the stories so instead I will discuss the subject matter of some of my favourites without the titles. One I really enjoyed was about two businessmen who were having a disagreement and so paid a mediation company who promises to help them resolve it, no matter what. That was dark and built up well. The second story about a man introducing his date to his art collection was also really great, and 'Taking Out the Trash' was so dark but very well written.

Overall, if you're looking for a short and decidedly not sweet horror anthology collection, Untold Mayhem is absolutely one to check out. I strongly recommend checking out the audiobook version as well as it gave a great experience of the book and I really enjoyed listening to the stories around other tasks. Each story is pretty short so it was easy to listen the way I wanted and not forget important details the way I might with a longer book. Tullius's writing is very strong and I am looking forward to checking out some of his other anthologies.

Overall Rating: 4/5 stars
