You know that feeling you get when you meet up with a best friend after a very long time, this is what I felt when I go this book. This is the final book in "The Book of the Wars series" and you should definitely read it in order. If you can you should also read "The Tox Files" before you read this series, since you meet Leif and other vital members of the team in that series. Back to 'Soul Raging' - it was everything I've come to expect from Ronie Kendig. Action, action and more action. Heroes with a tender side (I totally felt Leif's struggle with getting answers to his questions and doing what he knows is right), twists and turns - there was so many "oh no" and "really!" moments, and Ronie Kendig's famous banter. At the end the story felt too short. I would have loved to spend more time with Leif and Iskra and Mercy, but the conclusion was really sweet. I am secretly hoping for a Novella. I loved Canyon Metcalfe in this. A novella or series about the Metcalfe brothers would be high on my wish list. But seriously, if you have never read Ronie Kendig's Military thrillers, you need need to give it a try. I will keep reading anything new she brings out and are almost caught up on her backlist. |
I thought I was ready for this book. I truly did. I blocked off the whole afternoon so I could read it uninterrupted. I psyched myself up and even did a bit of a recap on Kings Falling, because that ending… But there’s only so much preparation you can do for a roller coaster ride. At some point, you just have to get on and hang on. And in this case, the stomach-bottoming sensations began on page one. But just like a real roller coaster ride, I wanted to go again as soon as it was all over! All metaphors aside, this was one wild ride. (Okay, almost all metaphors.) I’ve become hugely invested in these characters and felt like I was holding my breath as the events unfolded, wondering whether my trust had been misplaced in some instances or unjustly withheld in others. Not to mention wondering how many of them would live to see the end of the book. Relationships were forged, tested, strengthened, crippled, resuscitated, lost, and restored (not necessarily in that order). Lives—and souls—hung in the balance. There was the trademark banter and camaraderie, even as tensions stretched to snapping point. And there was a climax that not only left my heart pounding but brought Leif’s personal journey to a powerful and meaningful conclusion. Wowsers doesn’t even begin to cover it. No, Ronie Kendig’s books are not for the faint-hearted. But they are for those who love high-stakes action, fast-moving plots, and characters who are pushed to the outer limits of their endurance to find out what they’re really made of and what matters most. |
"And wasn't that the point of salvation? The value placed on life, regardless of a subjective definition of worth?" This conclusion to The Book of the Wars series is an incredible ride, filled with plot twists, plenty of battle, and betrayals upon betrayals that form a cohesive, complex, and intricately woven epic tale of good triumphing over evil even when stacked against impossible odds. This series definitely needs to be read in order to digest the details and to fully appreciate what makes Reaper team tick. This book has been on my list of most anticipated releases of 2020 and Ronie Kendig has truly outdone herself. Spanning multiple countries, the Reaper team continues its search for the Armageddon Coalition and ways to bring down the its evil work to overtake the world. As the truth about Leif and the medically-enhanced soldiers spills out, the team is paralyzed and fractured when no one seems to be who they are supposed to be. There will be lots of gasps as pages are turned more quickly with each chapter to find out what happens next. And, yes, there is romance in the air, too, for several couples, which balances out the high-speed action nicely. This story is told through multiple third person narratives - Leif, Iskra, Mercy, Cell, Dru, Hermanns, and Veratti - and that helps gel the plot as the pieces click into place one at a time. If you enjoy adrenaline-filled, masterfully woven suspense, you definitely want to read this book and the series. It's one of the best reads of 2020! I received a copy of the book from Bethany House Publishing Group and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All comments and opinions are solely my own. |
Ronie Kendig’s final installment in her series, Book of the Wars, does not disappoint. Soul Raging kept me enthralled from start to finish. Once again, the action is non-stop, the emotional angst is intense, and the suspense is constant. The final battle is coming and Reaper isn’t sure who to trust. Can they trust each other? Join Leif Metcalfe, Iskra Todorova and the rest of Reaper as they race to save friends, family and the world from what Ciro Veratti and ArC are trying to accomplish. This intense finale definitely lived up to my expectations! I was provided a copy by the publisher, but the opinions expressed in this review are my own. |
The opening was thrilling. The middle was nail biting. The ending was intensely satisfying and well worth the wait for the conclusion of the The Book of The Wars series. I didn’t want it to end, but am always excited to see what Kendig will write next. “Soul Raging” was an intense read from the first sentence to the last and ohhh my, that final sentence made the whole series come to a thrilling conclusion. “Leif had gone all Jason Bourne on them.” I won’t lie, this was an emotional read with so many curve balls thrown, my head was spinning! As Leif disappears and Iskra takes off after him with a team not knowing if he’s turned on them or not, it left me not knowing who to trust and what would happen next. There is only so much I can divulge here without giving away the storyline. However, needless to say the rapid-fire fiction of Kendig is full steam ahead in “Soul Raging.” “Canyon rolled around with a grin. Saito sniggered. “You love ticking him off.” “One of life’s finer pleasures.” Canyon nodded to Iskra.” Witty banter keeps this team going and is one of the great pleasure of reading this series. However, there is a whole aspect of distrust that darkened the storyline. Talking about who to trust, the Reaper Team had me going through every emotion in this book. Grief, love, sadness, fear, joy, hate and just pure happiness at the end. I could just feel the team’s emotions and that made the story come to life. Canyon Metcalfe added a whole new intensity to Leif’s character and Reaper, too. Iskra and Mercy were superheroes in my book and as always, I loved Mercy’s sense of humor. Cell drove me nuts, but then he drives the whole team nuts, so that sounds about right. This is not a read for the light-hearted as you never know who to trust and who will stick around until the end. However, the ending was sublime and well worth the ride. I loved it! “God’s character does not change because we are hurt by a situation that does change.” Powerful words that are a constant reminder of who God is in an ever-changing world. If you love action packed storylines, you’ll love this series. However, I highly recommend reading the entire series in order or you will probably be lost. It is well worth reading and now you don’t have to wait for the next book! I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. |
Soul Raging is nail-biting suspense right down to the last page. This is the conclusion of the series, and you’ll want to read Storm Rising and Kings Falling first. This story picks up from Kings Falling, where Leif Metcalf seems to have turned to the dark side. Soul Raging continues to follow Leif as he struggles to fill in the missing gaps of his past, not to mention that his future is prophesized in the mysterious Book of Wars – and it’s pretty bleak. Leif leaves his team rather than put them in jeopardy. The best part of this whole series has always been the characters. Readers will get a glimpse into Mercy’s past. Iskra is always a mysterious character and this novel much of her past comes back to haunt her. Canyon Metcalf makes an appearance to help save his brother. Cell always adds his whit to any situation. But the biggest plot twists come from trying to figure out who to trust. It tears the team (and the reader) apart. Could Leif really turn towards evil? Did Dru Illiescu set up Leif this whole time? Loyalties are tested and of course, no Ronie Kendig novel is complete without an epic showdown in the end! If you started the series, you’ll be in for a thrilling and satisfying conclusion. If you haven’t started the series, you should get book one and be prepared to read all the way through until the very end. You won’t want to put it down. Overall: 5 stars (I loved it, couldn’t put it down) Suspense: 5 stars (Non-stop edge-of-your-seat suspense from start to finish) I received an ebook review copy of this book through NetGalley. All opinions expressed in this review are my own. |
My head is SPINNING!!!! This series, like the Tox Files, is not a series to be read with lots of time in between books. There are so many threads, so many characters, and so many names to keep straight. While I love the complexity, it's also frustrating because I can feel so lost. My biggest challenge is all the different names for the same characters. I can't keep those straight. But despite how confused I get, I loved this series. I love the stakes, the pressure, the people, the puzzles, the mystery. It's so cool! Kendig writes amazing stories that are complex, intense, and like nothing I've ever read before. Honestly, the ending felt a little anti-climactic for how much went on in the rest of the book. I'm still quite sure who all was good and bad in the end. How some threads came together was incredible (one of those things with multiple names for the same person). I will definitely be re-reading Tox and these, with some sort of system for tracking things this time. I did make one connection and I was super proud of myself for it :) |
The book is heavily dependent on previous titles in the series that it was difficult to follow. I have a hard time recommending it to anyone who has not read earlier books. I had not and was disappointed. |
I love love love this Author and this series!! What a action packed suspense book this was!! A must for Christian action seeking booklovers!! |
Is Leif Metcalfe a traitor? Hunting for answers he leaves his team in dark circumstances to find out the truth once and for all. The action is non-stop as Leif tries to stay ahead of team Reaper and Iskra Todorova and find answers to his past. This is the final book in The Book of the Wars series and does not disappoint. The final showdown between good and evil. Who will win? An epic conclusion to this series. |
Well, Ronie Kendig delivers again. Ronie stealthfully delivers truths like: “God’s character does not change because we are hurt by a situation that does change.” And “His character spoke of a higher road. And in the heat of the moment, in a split second of panic, she had let fear override and assume the worst.” Wow, isn’t it amazing how fear really can cause us to see things wrong, cause us to say things wrong, cause us to hurt others when—in the moment—we think we’re doing what’s best but in reality we aren’t seeing the truth. I love Ronie’s books because she’ll sweep you along in an epic story with fast-paced action scenes and engaging character but she’ll also give you something to chew on. And she gives it to you in the context of a situation—story—and never preaches it to you. That whole idea of show don’t tell. Yeah, Ronie Kendig is a master at that. I have so many more that I could quote but I’ll leave it to you to find your own that resonant with you. Just do me a favor and reply so I can reminisce and grow along with you! This is a follow up series to the Tox files; I would not recommend this book as a stand alone read—just grab the entire series. It’s not a sit and get cozy book. This is a Jack Ryan, high-intensity read that zips you along and keeps you gripped within the storyline. Thank you Netgalley and Bethany House for the ARC and the opportunity to leave a no-obligation, honest review of what I think of this read. |
From the very first chapter I knew Kendig had done it again. Her ability to captivate my attention and draw me in to the story is always amazing. Soul Raging is the long awaited series finale of the Book of the Wars. Lief Metcalfe is walking a risky line as he tries to uncover what happened during the gap in his memory. In this series we've seen Storms Rise, Kings Fall, and now a beloved Soul Rage. The adventures these pages uncover will keep you engaged and gasping. Will Leif's unrelenting desire to know and understand his past be his undoing? Will those he's trying to protect in his quest for answers be the ones who pay the most unimaginable costs? Why can't anything ever be easy? Will Iskra's choice to believe in his best and do what Lief would do be at a cost she cannot endure? These are just a few of the questions that rise, fall, and rage throughout this spectacular story. Threads from past stories are pulled in. Answers to lingering questions are revealed. And another great series ends. It's always something you want because you want to know how things end. But it's also something you don't want, because you don't want the story to be over. You don't want to be done and waiting on the next great book to be released. But now we wait ... Thank you Bethany House for the opportunity to review this book. All opinions are my own. |

I just had that contented sigh as I read the last page of this book. It was a good read. I think I enjoyed this series more than any other this author has written. It's a must to read the first two books in this series before reading this one. Leif has left his team to work with the enemy. He is still struggling to find out what happened during the months that he has no memory. What he finds out about those missing months was unexpected. There are a lot of twists and turns. Then there's the question, is Leif somehow connected to The Book of the Wars? This author is so much fun to read. She writes great characters that you love getting to know. There's plenty of action in her books and the romance is so realistic. I loved this book and the entire series. What an awesome read. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley for an honest review. |
Soul Raging was one of my most anticipated reads of the year. After the way Kings Falling ended, I had to get my hands on a copy as soon as possible. And wow, what an epic conclusion to the series! True to Kendig's rapid-fire style, Soul Raging never let up on the action, intrigue, and suspense. There were times when I literally couldn't catch my breath because of the full-throttle, high-intensity excitement. I was on the edge of my seat for the majority of the book, reading as fast as I could, trying to guess what would happen next and constantly being shocked by all the twists and turns. This story definitely kept me guessing. I didn't know who to trust, at times, not knowing who was friend or foe. This was one of the most insanely intense and thrilling reads I've read. It's not a standalone but since the series is now complete, I highly recommend binge-reading the whole series in one go. You won't regret it. I received a copy of this book from the publisher and voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and comments are my honest opinion. |
From the very first line of this book to the last, I found I needed to remind myself to BREATHE! Wow! Like the two other books in this series, I was captivated and amazed at the intense drama each of these characters went through. What Ronie Kendig does to her characters is beyond anything I could think up. I don’t know if I’d like to be in one of her books. However, I do LOVE to read about it and experience all of it from the safety of my own chair and cozy home. Unfortunately, while sitting in my chair I was sometimes gripping the seat and trying not to stop or look away from the book. There were parts in the book where I also wanted to shake a few of the characters up for how they were acting. I loved all the tension, dialogues, emotions, and actions of everyone in this book. They were relatable even though at times they seemed larger than life. Ronie Kendig knows how to twist and turn the story in such a way you don’t see what’s right in front of you and when you see it, you can’t believe it! Many times I thought I knew who the true bad guys were and then I was proven wrong! If you want to read a book packed full of intrigue, suspense, action (LOTS OF ACTION!), drama, military struggles, and a bit (well maybe more than a bit)of romance, then this is the book for you! You might need a day or two to process all that happens in this book. Believe me, you won't be able to breathe deeply until the end, but it will be worth it. There were a few nights when I looked up from reading and it wasn’t as early as I thought. Meals were missed or casually thrown together because I just couldn’t put it down! I highly recommend reading this book and the whole series. Pick it up it will take you on the adventure of your life. I was given this book by the publisher which did not influence my review in any way, all thoughts and opinions are my own. |
"Better judgement was for those who had options" (location 711). This could be a banner over this book. When the whole world order and life as we know it is on the line, extreme measures need to be taken. This is an exciting conclusion to "The Book of the Wars" series. Leif seems to be losing control and the team is falling apart. It's increasingly hard to know who is trustworthy. There's a ton of action, betrayal, and uncertainty. Secrets are revealed. It's a great read. I think it's best to read this book as part of the series. So many things wouldn't make sense if you didn't know the back story. So start with book one and enjoy the ride. Thank you to Bethany House for providing me with a free e-copy of this book. All opinions are my own. Book 1: Storm Rising Book 2: Kings Falling Book 3: Soul Raging |

I just finished Soul Raging.... IT'S A MUST READ!!! I would give it 100 Stars if I could! The book kept me on my toes! and my nerves are shot!! Action, Suspense, Love, Laughter and Christian Cuss Words. I LOVED IT! |
As always, Kendig has created a masterful plot line that kept me on the edge of my seat. There were times I was sure a beloved character was a traitor and times I thought a traitor might turn out to be a decent sort. In the end, Soul Raging is a satisfying conclusion to The Book of the Wars series. I recommend Soul Raging to Ronie Kiendig fans, and those who enjoy military fiction with a slice of romance. This is the third and final book in the series though so in order to fully grasp the dynamics of plot, characters, and setting, you should read these books in order. An electronic copy from the publisher through Netgalley was used for review purposes. No compensation has been received. |
Leif Metcalfe has been through a lot, and is learning that things have not always been as he thought they were. He is still determined to stop the final war that was prophesied in the Book of Wars, but he now has to question what his role is going to be. His friends are equally concerned because of what they learn about Leif’s abilities. All of this leads to an exciting story in a great series. In the third book of the series, Ronie Kendig skillfully weaves a story that has many facets, but comes together cleanly. As it progresses, you can start to form ideas about how it will end, but she includes several twists that keep you unsure about how it will all turn out. I was drawn into the book and was intent on learning how it everything was resolved. Besides having such an interesting plot, the book also illustrates trusting through difficult times and standing up for what you know is right. Many characters had to make tough choices that pitted personal comfort versus a greater good. I received a complimentary copy from the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions are my own. |

Soul Raging....so aptly named! This is book 3 of Ronie Kendig's The Book of the Wars trilogy. And what an ending! Leif has been searching for the missing months of his life for years. Why can't he remember? And now he has the chance to finally find out what happened, but at what cost? There is a prophecy in the Book of the Wars and Leif is somehow intertwined with this prophecy. Can he abandon his country....his team....Iskra...to figure out what happened those missing months? Why can't he remember? Is he really a part of this prophecy written so many many years ago? This book lives up to Ronie Kendig's tag line of Rapid Fire Fiction. This book is filled with fast paced action, twists and turns and “I did not see that coming” moments throughout. While Leif is the main character I love that all the characters are so well developed and have carried through the entire series. You can't help but smile at the banter between Cell and Mercy. And Mercy's super hero quips? The best! And I love that we learn more about Mercy and her life in this book. I would suggest that you read book 1, Storm Rising, and two, King's Falling, before reading this conclusion. The story and characters build throughout the series. I was given a copy of this book by the publisher in exchange for an honest review. |
