Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an advance copy of this book in return for an honest review.

The book gets off to a great start. Bonnie Graham stands in the open door of her friend’s apartment. All alone, except for her dead lover, Hayden, lying in a pool of blood. The book is told entirely from Bonnie’s first person perspective, in alternating chapters of before and after that point in time, which I liked.

Bonnie, a music teacher, agrees to get a band together to play at her friend’s wedding. She manages to pull a band together, and like most bands, not everyone gets along. Hayden is a free-spirited rolling stone of a musician, sleeping on other people's couches. His charismatic personality attracts women, his antagonism toward men repels them, and young men admire his lifestyle. Soon, friendships and relationships are sucked into his vortex and put to the test. So who murdered him, and why?

The writing is good, the plot is good, and it isn’t just a whodunit. It is an examination of the dynamics of relationships, but it just didn’t work for me. It just seemed to drag on and on. Some of the smaller subplots were meant to be red herrings to keep you guessing as to the real murderer, but there were way too many and they just became distractions.

I'm a big fan of Nicci French and this book is another reason why. Lots of twists and turns. I enjoyed it and am looking forward to more from this author.

This is a story of a girl named Bonnie who puts together a small band, and even though she has a man falls for the golden boy/ladies man Hayden, with all his uncovered secrets throughout the book, who is also in her band and winds up dead in a friend's house she house sitting for. There is another friend there to help get rid of the body. I enjoyed the bit of twist at the end. I didn't really see it coming. I did not enjoy the back and forth between past and present. I thought it was extremely unnecessary and tedious. I thought the book was good and definitely worth reading as I am a huge Nicci French fan and have enjoyed the books I've read by her thus far. This was a quick and easy read. I didn't really care for the band parts, but it was an interesting whodunnit and why?

Thank you so much to NetGalley for the advanced reader's copy for an honest review.

I think that I've read everything that Nicci French has written, the vast majority of their books are phenomenal thrillers, a subset border on silly and cross over into unbelievable. I am sorry to say that this book was the latter. I did enjoy reading this but I guessed the ending early on. Almost all of French's books feature a flawed female protagonist, she is usually extremely driven, somewhat asocial, and often self-sabotaging. The main character here is no different, except that is too self-sabotaging. To the point that you wonder who on earth would behave in such a way. I don't believe she would want to be friends with (I think her name was) Sonja, I don't think she would rip her apartment to pieces and live in an absolute mess, why would she even agree to play in a band at her friends wedding? And then who would keep going with such a monumental task when rehearsals are going so terribly and everything else is falling to pieces? Well written but too silly for me.

I love the twists and turns of the book. It keeps you on your toes and every time I thought I knew for sure what happened I was shocked once again.
At times the book feels to drag on a little to long with unnecessary details. I was also frustrated with the beginning of the book. The main character walks in on a murder. Instead of calling the police she decided to cover up someone else's crime. I wish that the author found another way to begin the twisting tale.

I really liked this book. The flashbacks gave a full circle look at the key players. The ending had me guessing and I wasn’t expecting it. Will definitely read again!

My first Niicci French book. Full of twists, I was certain I knew "who done it", but I was completely wrong. So, good on the author for keeping me guessing!
I like the book, but it seemed a little silly that when you stumble on a dead body, instead of calling the cops, you try to figure out how to cover up a crime you didnt commit.
Also, I think it kind of dragged on a bit too long.
For those reasons I gave it 4 stars. Other than that the book was good!

Bonnie Graham can hardly wait for the school year to end. She plans to have a relaxing summer, make improvements to her apartment and hanging out with friends. She’s even been asked to put together a band to perform at a friend’s wedding. All that changes in an instant when when she arrives at the apartment where her “boyfriend” is apartment-sitting. He is lying dead on the floor. Not knowing what to do, Bonnie calls a girlfriend and together they make a fateful decision that will alter their lives forever.

The Other Side of the Door by Nicci French is a uniquely written thriller that depends largely on “time-shifting” to keep the plot moving. While this writing tool can be used to make a book more interesting, it can also make for tedious reading. French was partially successful, in my opinion. On the plus side, I did enjoy the apparent nod to Agatha Christie’s “And Then There Were None plot involving a group of people. The characters were well developed and believable. That said, moving back and forth in time every chapter was a little tedious and unnecessary. I’m not really sure what doing so was supposed to add to the reader’s experience. However, despite this one negative point, I would still recommend this book and give it 3/5 stars.

This is a re-release of Complicit from 2009. Who is more dangerous? An enemy? A friend? Or a lover? Bonnie Graham finds her boyfriend dead lying in a pool of blood. What happened? What will she do? Who killed him? Everyone tells lies to the police. Is anyone prepared to tell the truth to uncover a murderer?
I liked this book a lot and had a hard time putting it down. The story switched between The Before and The After of The Murder. The characters were believable. The ending was a surprise. I loved all the twists and turns. I would recommend this book to those who love mystery thrillers. I have read all of their Frieda Klein books but will catch up on their earlier books. I would like to thank NetGalley and William Morrow Paperbacks for a free copy for an honest review.

I love Nicci French so I was excited to read this newest novel. Suspense is the perfect descriptor for this book. I felt like it came to a satisfying close, which does not happen often in this genre. Would definitely recommend for someone who is looking for a suspenseful read!

This was just okay for me. I thought it dragged on a bit too long and it didn't need to. I also wasn't really interested in the musician storyline.

I thought must of the characters were unlikeable and I wasn't rooted for anyone. If you like open ended endings, this one isn't for you.

I gave this one 3 stars. Not bad, but there are other books by this author that are much better.

Amazing story. Well developed characters that are in a twisted engrossing thriller. Highly recommended. Super suspense that comes to a satisfying end! Highly recommended . A true roller coaster thrill ride

This book was wild. I don’t think I realized initially that it was based in America, WHICH IS FINE, but sometimes the subtle language differences frustrate me. I thought this book was a little difficult to follow. The storyline was good but it was slow moving. I appreciate a good back and forth but it was over the top. There were so many details that you needed to pay attention to for the ending to make sense. I didn’t enjoy the book it. There was just too much going on.

Bonnie Graham is asked to put a band together for a friends wedding. She creates an unlikely group. When tragedy strikes we don’t know who the murderer could be. The chapters flip to before and after. I thought it was suspenseful and enjoyed it. The last chapter has me wondering what it meant. All in all a good read. I would definitely read more of the authors books. Thank you to netgalley, the publisher and author for giving me an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

It’s something different from my usual read however it was the refresh I needed during my thriller/suspense phase

Thanks to Net Gallery for early access to the book. This crime novel started with an interesting premise of murder, and the story evolved through an Before After pattern. Characters were moderately well developed.

The Before After approach is sometwhat overused, and in this case, was tedious. To compound that, frequently the sections, or chapters, were very short with little plot development. There were a few successful twists introduced.

I have enjoyed this author's previous books but just couldn't stick with this one despite many tries. The characters didn't engage me, and I never overcame the impression of the grisly beginning where two young women are trying to dispose of a blood-soaked body. I appreciate the opportunity to read it and I'm sorry I couldn't finish it. Her other readers will no doubt find it very worthwhile.

This book is not what I expected...I couldn’t put it down. All the characters are imperfect and you never know what to expect from one moment to the next. Lots of twists and turns which keeps you on your toes. Thank you @netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for a honest review.

I love a book that makes me dislike the characters, weird but that's me. The Other Side of the Door really had that effect. Some major psychological suspense at play here. I was on the edge of my seat and was more confident in my guess of the ending than I should have been. This kept me on my toes. French is a standup author, I want to read more of her work.
