It has been a long time since I have read -- let alone enjoyed -- an erotic thriller. The novel was sexy and had all the trademarks of a romantic novel with it's exciting kinks, but it was the back story that truly stood out. I really enjoyed the history and the subtle use of the supernatural to add a layer of complexity and interest to the narrative. This was a light, sexy read done well. |
This book just didn't work for me. It reminded me of reading a text book, it was so boring. I didn't think there was much chemistry between Arthur and Regan. I did think that Arthur was a good character. |
Atypical Tiffany read, full of hot sex and twisted fantasies. She switches between love and mind games with consummate ease. |
I enjoyed the characters and the setting of this story. the love scenes were written well, although sometimes the technical terms could disrupt an otherwise well written scene. The characters had chemistry. I definetely want to go back and read the previous books as the ghost story part of this book was very intriguing. |
I have loved every other Tiffany Reisz I have ever read, but The Pearl didn't grab me the way her other stories and couples have. What I loved about The Pearl was a contemporary play on power structures and locations most often found in historical romances. Mayfair, Dukes, Lords and Ladies are still all in play in The Pearl, but they carry cell phones and drive cars instead of carriages. The world felt both familiar and new and I enjoyed that aspect of the book immensely. I also loved looking up the paintings that played characters in the novel and the how Reisz' detailed descriptions did the pieces justice. Hero Arthur, would be the heir were we reading a historical, is a handsome 21 year old who seeks to stand apart from his family's rather scandalous history, still being lived out loud by his parents, sister and younger brother Charlie. While the rest of the family enjoys debauchery, publicly, Arthur has attended military college and is about to join the British service. And yet he finds himself called to The Pearl, a historical pleasure house turned hotel, which his family has a long and complicated history with. He's there to bail out little brother Charlie, a task Arthur feels honor bound to do, but resents all the same. This is how strait laced Arthur finds him serving the whims of the hotel owner, Lady Reagan Ferry, often on his knees. I struggled to connect with the connection between Reagan and Arthur, in part because the power play and dynamics fluctuated in ways I didn't understand as the characters had been written. I continued the book to learn more about the art, the mystery, but the hero and heroine ended up being secondary to that, despite scores of explicit and steamy scenes between the two. |
I had no clue what I was getting into when I opened this book and my god it did not disappoint. This erotic novel was full of steam with just the right amount of taboo. Arthur Godwick has to bail out his brother Charlie, yet again. But this time, widowed Reagan, owner of The Pearl Hotel, doesn't want money. She wants Arthur at her beck and call. And who wouldn't want a man 10 years her junior completely submissive to her requests? What starts off as a purely physical relationship begins to be altered by a paranormal presence that taunts the lovers with disturbances in their room. The ghost seems to be driving them together, but is that really what Reagan and Arthur want? |
As with all of her books, she has a creative and very naughty mind. There is at least a story that goes along with the sex and all are tastefully written. |
As always, a total winner! Richly drawn and detailed, this story perfectly balances the erotic with the mysterious, the romantic, and the spooky. With lots of extra artistic details thrown in, it offers up a very vivid tale that's easy to see in your mind's eye as you read. I've been a fan of Tiffany Reisz since I first read her first book, The Siren, and this book didn't let me down. She is an incredibly talented author with a pen perfect for teasing and titillating readers. |

It was okay. The sex was alright. The mystery was intriguing. I didn't realize it was the third book in a series and not a stand alone, so i was a bit lost, but honestly, i feel like you could read this even without reading the other ones. I guess it just didn't hold my attention all that well, though. It wasn't as interesting as i thought it was going to be based off the premise. |
This erotica was meh at best. It sounded interesting when i read the blurb, maybe i had too high expetations? I ended up just being bored and did not feel interested with the characters at all. |
The pearl is one of those books that will keep you engrossed in the story from the beginning to the last page. The steamy scenes that I was already used from the author haven’t missed in here and as usual, this one brings more interesting characters and the art inclusion makes it a great novel . Personally I didn’t liked the paranormal elements and I thought it could’ve been a great story without that addition at all but that’s just my opinion. |

The story caught me at the beginning, the imagery was lovely... the "scenes" were well written and I truly could not put the book down. I finished in one night. The feelings the author was able to depict with her writing could be felt, I cried with the characters, I rooted for the underdog. The way the past came to light, truths laid out and old sounds soothed through underhanded tactics turned well meaning and filled with emotion. This is one book that is hot and sexy with a delightful plot I did not expect. |

My 1st Tiffany Reisz. I've seen her books and name around, but never picked one up until I saw this available on NetGalley. I went into this without any expectations. Didn't expect it to be so spicy. Didn't expect it to be art-- both filled and crafted. Didn't expect paranormal. There was a lot going on, making this a more complicated and deeper book than I expected. Pleasantly surprised and much appreciated. I was delighted at the art references and education. Familiar with some of the work already in this collection -- Judith & Holofernes -- but where she went with it by placing our heroine into the story was very creative. Willing to read more from this author. |

I was an avid reader of the Nora/Soren series of books and enjoyed them. Wasn't too keen on the paranormal aspect to this book but it was an easy read. |

Thank you, NetGalley for this ebook! The pearl is a good read and stays interesting throughout. That being said all the ghost stuff was bizarre and took away from the rest of the book. |
Content Rating: 18+ Genre: Romance, Adult Fiction, Contemporary Published: December 1, 2020, by 8th Circle Press The Pearl is the third book in The Godwicks' Series, but no worries, you can read this one as a standalone. However, you will be missing out on a very sexy series, and I recommend the other books in the series. Tiffany Reisz can write erotica; we all know that. I love that she combines a twist of mystery and a paranormal element to her writing. And in this book adds a bit of art. You will like this book if you enjoy a storyline with a dominant older woman and a younger man. But not to worry, only about nine years are separating them. Lord Arthur Godwick may only be 21, but he is mature, a bit of an old soul with a side of brat. Arthur is nothing like the previous Godwicks we have met. He is kindhearted, patient, and you feel that he genuinely loves his family. Arthur is summoned to The Pearl Hotel by the new owner Lady Reagan Ferry. Arthur's younger irresponsible brother, Charlie, has run up quite a tab at the hotel. Charlie has not only run up a bill but to make matters worse, he has given Lady Ferry the painting of Lord Malcolm Godwick, which is cherished by their parents. Arthur believes Lady Ferry has summoned him there to pay his brother's tab. Lady Ferry does want payment but not in cash. "' There is something quite poetic about this, isn't there? The great-grandson of The Pearl's most infamous customer becoming a whore for the great-granddaughter of one of the Pearl's best whores?'" (Reagan) The book takes off from there. Reagan and Arthur sizzle on the page; they develop from two damaged people into a strong, funny, sensual couple that will wiggle their way into your heart. It was beautiful to watch Arthur, with his immeasurable tenderness and willingness to love, melt Reagan's heart. Reagan goes from a timid young woman who lived under her ancient controlling husband's thumb to a beautiful, successful, confident woman. And then there is Arthur, sweet, loving, and the ultimate dutiful son. It is lovely to watch Reagan bring out his submissive but very sexy side. Let's just say he knows his way around a string of pearls. Another thing that I found unique about this book was the way Ms. Reisz used famous artwork to enrich the plot. She cleverly wove the paintings into every aspect of the story. The Pearl was an emotionally provocative love story with some interesting plot twists. Ms. Reisz not only writes an erotic tale but also writes her characters beautifully, giving them a depth that will endear you to them. * Please note the quotes in my review are subject to change once the book is published. * ** I kindly received this galley by way of NetGalley, publisher, and author. This book surprised me in a good way. I usually don´t read books in this genre, because when I think of ´steamy' books the Harlequin ones comes to mind, which you can buy for dirt cheap in the supermarket and are not exactly known for their literary quality and depth. To each his own. It's not what I'm looking for. So when The Pearl popped up you´d say I would click it away in an instant. However, I was in a different mood that day. Sometimes you just need a break from the usual fare and have a relaxing distraction from a stressed mind or whatever is going on. I googled the author, Tiffany Reisz, and got the impression that she really stands out from the crowd in erotica. So I took the plunge. The book has a bit of an awkward and forced start, but after a few pages I was hooked and didn´t want to stop reading. It has romance, it has mystery and, very interestingly, a whole lot of art! The steamy scenes are very well done and they are the strong parts of this book. It is clear that writing erotic scenes is where the author excels in. The characters did not really convince me for the most part: the 30 year old Regan came off as a rude, immature and overly dramatic girl with daddy issues, and the 21 year old Arthur seemed unbelievably dull and mature for his age. There is a lot of art and talking about art in this book and I loved that. It has introduced me to art work from female painters and now I want to know more about them, especially the oil on canvas pieces by Evelyn de Morgan. They are amazing! Can't stop looking at them online. Needless to say, I enjoyed this book and it was a very pleasant surprise. I might purchase the other 2 books in this series and I'm looking forward to a sequel. I received this book as an ARC from Netgalley and the publisher. |
The Pearl is a romantic novel which takes you to a whole different lifestyle. It's narrative can be quite inviting and I would even go so far as to say it brings the Netflix series ' Bridgerton' to mind. I was quite at ease with the contents. If you are into the era of fair maidens, lords, countess's etc This may very well be your go to Novel. I quite liked it and have no complaints. |

I absolutely loved The Pearl. The relationship between Arthur and Regan was so well-crafted and sincere, and I loved how unique Arthur was as a character. The plot was engaging and fast-paced, and seeing old characters return is always a treat. |
