Well, I told myself I wouldn't start any more unfinished series and I really thought this was a standalone. Oh well, I did really enjoy this book. I do hope that the mythology will be explained a bit more in the second book. The way of turning someone into a vampire still confused me a bit. But I really liked the main character and the storyline.

It is like vampires are back in fashion and I am not unhappy about that at all. This is an interesting and utterly bewitching novel. 
When Tansy's best friend gets caught up with a vampire emo band she must save her!

It is very YA, really engaging and well written. For all Twilight, Vampire Academy and Vampire Diaries fans.

Afterlife of the Party by Marlene Perez is a fun addition to the paranormal YA compendium. Fans of Vampire Academy, Buffy, The Secret Circle, or Marlene’s earlier series will eat up this new snarky, irreverent take on the vampire romance novel.

While a bit silly and over the top at times (it totally plays up all the teen vampire tropes), Afterlife of the Party actually deep dives into issues about consent and human trafficking--but with vampires. I loved that Tansy was taught by her grandmother to lift other women up, rather than tearing them down. Whether it’s rescuing her best friend, or other girls held against their will, Tansy fights tooth and nail for what’s right.

And the fact that her sexy fake-turned-real boyfriend is along for the ride? Even better.

I have a feeling Perez has another hit series on her hands--and like the Dead Like series, this one might just be what compels a reluctant reader to keep turning pages. (Pun mostly unintentional.)

I'm not completely sure how I feel about this book. It's funny at times. The dialogue is a bit flat. I really enjoyed the characters, even when I wished I could reach into the pages and slap them. I think a lot was about setting up the series. Overall it's a good read and I will give the next one a try.

"The Afterlife of the Party" follows Tansy and Vaughn as they race to save their best friend Skylar from the grasps of a vampire band called 'The Drainers' who are set out to drink blood from as many girls and women as they possibly can; of course, they do not care how many bodies they leave in their wake.
During Tansy and Vaughn's rescue mission they meet multiple people who all have their own agenda as to why they are following 'The Drainers' as well; Some help them and others just get in their way.
With multiple twists and turns, this book hooked me from the first sentence.

"The Afterlife of the Party" had a promising plot and interesting premise which promised a road trip, aspects of the occult, romance and friendship. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about Tansy and Vaugh being on the road and also how their friendship developed into something more. Another thing that I enjoyed was the conflict between witches and vampires and how it ultimately played out between them and inside of Tansy herself. I also enjoyed how the topic of consent was a major part of this story.

However, there were a few things that I didn't really enjoy. In my opinion the characters were very one dimensional and the relationships between the characters seemed poorly portrayed and developed. Not only that but several characters were introduced and tended to disappear without any impact on the characters or the plot. Which begs the question: Why were they involved in the first place? My only hope is that these characters play a more significant role in the upcoming novels as I did tend to like them.
Another thing that irked me was that certain things were over-explained multiple times throughout the book and others, which I found far more baffling and explanation worthy, were not explained at all but rather glossed over and forgotten about.
There were also some continuity errors that at times confused me a lot but I have to take into consideration that I read an unedited version of the book and many things could still change.

All in all, "The Afterlife of the Party" is an entertaining story with vampires and the emphasis of friendship and loyalty at the forefront. Anyone who enjoyed the "Vampire Academy" and similar books and movies should definitely check this book out.

I don't know how I finished this book. I was soooo excited to read it but it was so not well written. I felt like I was reading conversations between 13 years old. Even 13 years old are more insightful. Cliche lines were used in cliche manner which were not fun to read at all. 


I had high expectations for this book. Sad to say it wasn't even an average. I literally skimmed pages, because I didn't want to dnf it.

I got hooked quick at the beginning and I felt the book was very promising. But as I read more and more, I noticed the story became very choppy, and there was a lot of jumping around. I had to go back a few times and see if I somehow missed something, because it’s from one scene to something completely different and I’d be like wait what?? And though I liked Tansy fine in the beginning, but the more the story went on the more she annoyed me. I expected her to be a badass but she was always being a baby and damsel in distress like to Vaughn. It started off well but ended in a mess and I had to force myself to see it through.

I admit this book was quite surprising. I was pretty hyped for this book and was quite glad to find out that it did not disappoint! I love Vaughn and Tansy's chemistry since the beginning and I absolutely enjoyed the plot, the dark vampires and the crazy twists that made for an entertaining ride!

I completely got lost in the story and I just loved getting to see these new characters come together. I just absolutely love this story and I just didn’t want to put it down. I can’t wait to see what’s next from this author.

A fun and witty, first book in a new series. If you love vampires, campyness, and all around quick reads try this one out. It's a fun fantasy that will leave you waiting for book two.

Wow.  I love this spin on the vampire world.  It was a non stop crazy ride.  Where the undead are a bit on the horrible side.  No sparkles on these Vamps.  No they are disgusting sick individuals, who care about no one.  Not your normal vampire read for sure.

Tansy comes from a long line of witches.  She has always known that there were supernatural beings.  But she never imagined it to be as dark and dangerous as it is the night her bestie Skylar takes her to a party.

Tansy is now in a race against time to save her friend from impending death.  Will she save her or die trying.

Overall this book is dark and dangerous.  It is full of twists and turns with danger around every turn.  This book was very hard to put down.  I was on the edge throughout.  

The characters are interesting and the vampires are evil.  Tansy and Vaughn are the cutest.  Both denying the truth for way too long.  Skyler is a bit of a loose cannon.  

The ending is going to throw you for a loop.  I know I was like what!!  You can’t be serious.  But it lays the plot for the stories to continue on.  

If you enjoy dark books, then you will enjoy this one.  Warning though....there is kidnapping and dark scenes in this book.

Tansy grew up knowing that she was a witch with a friendly but kooky grandmother to show her the peaceful ways. She did not expect to be turned into a vampire-witch and have to hunt down a rock band to save her best friend. Tansy is joined for this fast moving adventure by her long-time crush but very much friend-zoned guy. 
So I did like how this book was fast paced and an easy read with a flowing style of writing. I just got held up many places on how easy it was for Tansy to navigate every situation she was in. She's never practiced any combat witchery and never been a vampire, but she seems to be knocking her obstacles out easily. Plus, everything seemed much too convenient so there was not much concern driving you forward.

I love that there's an uptick in YA vamp novels again, so i was super stoked to come into this one. Unfortunately, overall this one felt a bit young for me. Some YA ages well and is more readable to older audiences as well as younger audiences, but this want felt kind of cutesy, and I'm in general not a huge fan of friends to lovers.

I might end up giving the audiobook a shot. When I get confused (this had a lot of twists and a crazy plot, so it could be a bit difficult to keep track of what was happeneing) I tend to try the audiobook and see if I enjoy it more.

I know this is a shorter review, but I don't have a ton of thoughts on this one, unfortunately! I think it's defintely geared towards a younger YA rather than an older YA audience. Rating it up 1 star since I think it's geared to a younger audience.

The Afterlife of the Party Marlene Perez an over excitable five-star read. I had a hard time coming up with a rating for this one, as it was a bit marmite for me, I loved it then I hated it and then I loved it again, and was like that the whole way through. It was funny and dramatic, but then it tried to hard, I finally decided on five-stars as I really did enjoy it overall and cant wait to see what chaos will ensue in the follow up story. Tansy was a good character, her loyalty for her friend Skyler even when she really didn’t deserve it just astounded me. This has so much going on, like what really happened with Skyler’s boyfriend, why did he really leave, and what secret is Vaughn keeping, there hasn’t been one, but something is bugging me and I need to know, all of these things added to the drama and the twists and kept this a thrilling and compelling read in more ways than one.

When Tansy is pressured into going to a party with her best friend, Skyler, she didn’t expect it to be a blood bath. 

Now she is on the trail of the vampire who bit her and kidnapped Skyler. Along with her other friend Vaughn, the sexual tension  is high and the vamps might just outsmart them.

Tansy's best friend Skyler gets involved with a vampire emo band called "The Drainers" and it's up to her, the guy she secretly fancies and her witch Granny to save Skyler from their clutches! 

A fun concept with alot to like but also some writing issues that holds me back from giving this a higher rating. I really liked most of the characters, Granny and her coven of sassy OAPs were hilarious and I loved the relationship between Tansy and Vaugn. I would have liked to learn more about Tansy's abilities as a witch and the whole supernatural element to this story, it was abit under developed for me and I think there was definitely room to explore that more. Things got a little repetitive and there were a few characters that I had no idea why they were involved at all really but other than that I found it a funny and enjoyable read.

This was the fun, quick read I needed.

Tansy, Skyler, and Vaughn were best friends living in Southern California.  Things were great except that Skyler was hurt by her ex boyfriend.  Also, Tansy liked Vaughn as more than friends, but he had a girlfriend.  But they were popular and got to spend time at the beach whenever they wanted.  Tansy is a witch.  She was raised by her grandma after her mom abandoned her.  Granny kept everyone safe and happy.

Skyler wants Tansy to go to a party in LA with her.  She met a guy that she really liked and his band was playing at the party.  Tansy reluctantly agreed to go.  That's when things got bad.  The band members were vampires.  Skyler had already been controlled and bled and Tansy had no idea.  Tyler, the lead singer and Skyler's new boyfriend, bit Tansy.  She didn't become a full vampire, but she got fangs.  She became a vampire witch hybrid.  Tansy wants revenge, but she mostly wants to save Skyler.  She would do anything to keep her friend safe.  Then she finds out about all the young girls being bitten without their permission.  There was no consent.  Tansy meets a few girls who say they want to help out.  While she doesn't trust them, she's willing to accept their help and knowledge.  While fighting with vampires, Tansy finds out more about her past and the vampire hierarchy.

The book was a fast read.  I enjoyed having something that I could just sit and read and not have to focus on as much.  It reminded me how much I loved to use paranormal books as an escape from reality.  That's definitely needed right now in 2020.

I gave this book 3  1/2 stars rounded up to 4.  Thank you to Entangled Teen and Netgalley for my earc.

You know how sometimes you crave 🍫chocolate? Since the party, Tansy had been getting that feeling a lot. But it wasn't chocolate she craved. It was blood🩸. That's right... unenthusiastically attends party, leaves as a saucy vampire.🧛🏻‍♀️ Eep! Where's Sky? Stuck as a hashtag Bleeder on a tour bus with a literal band of vamps actually called The Drainers. Friends-to-lovers (?), Tansy and Vaugh set out to save Sky and take down The Drainers. However, the lead singers (eek- he makes your ears bleed) dad is the numero uno, the big cheese, the guy in charge, the big bad vampire daddy. Yikes! That could be a problem🙈. Kill the head vamp, reverse the transformation. Got it. In the middle of a vamp war, will Tansy face the consequences or make sacrifices in order to save her bestie? The Afterlife of the Party is the perfect 🍂fall or 🧙🏼‍♀️🎃 October 👻 read. The snarky dialogue and pop culture references were clutch 👏🏼👌🏼. Marlene Perez's other series has been optioned by Disney for television and I could absolutely see TAOTP being pitched to studios as well.

The Afterlife of the Party is an interesting and bewitching YA book about vampires and witches that will suck you in. Marlene Perez centers the story around a teenage girl named Tansy and how here life changes after one party with her friends. If you enjoy vampire reads/shows like Twilight, Crave, and The Vampire Diaries you are going to want to read this book!

Tansy is trying to live a normal teenage life dealing with issues like trying not to have feelings for her best guy friend, Vaughn, and going to parties with her free-spirited friend Skyler. And she did go to that party and boy did it change her life!

At the party, she meets Travis, lead singer of The Drainers, and doesn't get good vibes from him. He is conceited and pushy and definitely not good enough for Skyler. It doesn't take much for Tansy to know that Travis is a vampire. But she is unprepared and shocked when he bites her without her consent. One bite. That's all it took to turn Tansy's world upside down. 

Tansy grew up with her Granny and being a Mariotti witch so she always heard about paranormal beings like vampires but never came in contact with them before until now. She is wondering if that bite makes her a vampire and needs to do research about what is a myth and what is factual. But, things get more complicated when her best friend can't break her bond with Travis. She and Vaughn will do anything to save Skylar from Travis and the rest of the vampires. There will be bloodshed, but Tansy, Vaughn, Granny, and some new friends are up for the fight!

My love of YA paranormal and vampire books started with Twilight and it has been sparked again with reads like this one. Marlene gives readers a fierce and bold character in Tansy. Her bravery and loyalty to her friends are captivating. And yes there is romance in this book between Tansy and Vaughn. They have such a great friendship and it made me happy to see their relationship blossom even when their backs were up against the wall. The suspense and mystery of the book were so intriguing and fascinating. The perfect lead up for more books in the series. 

I give The Afterlife of the Party 5 stars. It's an engaging YA paranormal read that left me wanting more. The characters are great, the history of vampires and witches in this book are unique and compelling, and the romance is swoon-worthy. I am so glad that there will be more books in this series because that ending had me begging for more. If you are finished with Midnight Sun and need a good vampire read that's alluring and well-written, then I highly recommend The Afterlife of the Party!
