Stacy Green https://stacygreenauthor.com/ is the author of two dozen novels. The Girls in the Snow was published in 2020 and is the first book in her Nikki Hunt series. It is the 41st book I completed reading in 2023.

Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own! Due to scenes of violence and mature language, I categorize this novel as R. The primary character is FBI Special Agent Nikki Hunt.

The bodies of two 15-year-old girls, Madison and Kaylee, have been found frozen in the snow-swept forests of Minnesota. The local Sheriff in Stillwater claims that the two girls are more victims of the serial killer known as Frost.

Hunt has been pursuing Frost. That is what takes her reluctantly to Stillwater. It is where she grew up. Where, when she was sixteen she found her parents murdered. She had left 20 years earlier and had not returned until now.

She had encountered Mark Todd in her house the night she discovered her parents. He was convicted on her testimony and has been serving time. She is surprised when she arrives in Stillwater to find protestors calling for the release of Mark Todd. They claim that new evidence will clear him of the murder.

While there because of Frost, Hunt does not believe that he is behind the murders. They don’t fit his style. Local authorities are reluctant to believe that one of their own could be behind the deaths. Then the body of a third victim is found.

Hunt is torn by the call to release Mark Todd. She begins to believe she may have helped convict an innocent man. As she continues her investigation, she only hopes that she can find the killer before there is another death. And she begins to think that the recent string of murders may somehow be tied to the death of her parents.

I enjoyed the 7.5+ hours I spent reading this 369-page mystery. Prior to reading this novel, I had the opportunity to read four other works by Ms. Green: The Girl in the Pink Shoes, Little Lost Souls, The Girl in the Cabin, and The Lonely Girls. All have been excellent mysteries! I like the chosen cover art. I give this novel a rating of 4.5 (rounded to 5) out of 5.

If you are looking for an intense, atmospheric gritty thriller, this is the book to read. I cannot wait to settle down under a blanket when fall comes and read the rest of the series.

This is my first book by Stacy Green and the first in the Nikki Hunt series. I really enjoyed it - Nikki Hunt is an FBI agent with a young daughter. She’s called to Stillwater to investigate the murder of two teenage girls - Stillwater is the town she grew up in and the where her parents were brutally murdered.
As a then teenage witness, Nikki was instrumental in putting Mark Todd behind bars for life for killing her parents.
Coming back to Stillwater stirs up old, painful memories for Nikki, especially when she hears that there may be evidence for a retrial.
Trying desperately to concentrate on the murders of Kaylee and Madison, Nikki soon discovers everything she thought was true is in doubt.
This was a great read, plenty of twists and a chilling story line. Can’t wait to read book 2.

The girls in the snow by Stacy Green.
Nikki Hunt book 1.
In the remote forests of Stillwater, Minnesota, you can scream for days and no one will hear you. So when the bodies of two fifteen-year-old girls are discovered frozen in the snow, Special Agent Nikki Hunt is sure the killer is local: someone knew where to hide the girls and thought they would never be found.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I loved Nikkis character. I'm looking forward to book 2. 5*.

This was a 3.5 star read for me. FBI Agent Nikki Hunt is focused on solving crime involving two teenage girls when thoughts of a crime from her past haunt her. I like that there were many layers to the story and that it had an interesting twist at the end. Also, this was one of the first books that I've read in a long time that actually had a strong female character that made smart conclusions!

This was a fast paced book, I must say very similiar to the detective books I've read but intriguing nonetheless. It follows Detective Nikki Hunt in her quest to find the murderer of two missing best friends who were found frozen in the snow.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
The detective has to deal with her own emotions as she's here for the first time in 20 years! And to top it off, her past comes crawling back at her. After her parents murder 20 years ago, all she wanted was to leave and never turn back. She had achieved that all right, becoming a top detective and doing what she loves best, but now things are about to change.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
After finding out the stepfather of the murdered girls was her boyfriend all those years ago, she has to decide whether to continue with the case or not.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
The case leads to her finding out about her own past and the real truth about her parent's murder. Could an innocent man have been behind bars for almost 20 years? Lots of suspense, betrayal and a whole lot of truth coming to light in this fast paced action thriller.

This was probably one of the best Detective thrillers I have ever read! It gave me OLLLLDDD SHCOOOOL Women's Murder Club Vibes. The small town setting was perfect and the way everyone was some how connected couldn't have been written better. Nikki's story is absolutely heartbreaking and really makes you think & feel. I cannot wait to continue this series!

This book has the past and present theme. The first few pages grabbed my attention straight away. The book had me turning the pages trying to guess the perpertrator. The plot was what grabbed me in the first place. Characters were good to connect to. Since its the first book in the series I will definately be reading more .

I was really looking forward to this one because I’ve loved many serial killer books in the past, but this one just didn’t do it for me! And the biggest part was the writing style and the constant holes in the smallest plot details...

Two decades ago in Stillwater, Minnesota, sixteen year old Nikki Hunt (nee Walsh), snuck back into her house after a late night of partying, to find her parents brutally murdered.
Traumatized and vowing to never return, Nikki Hunt, now a FBI profiler, is sent back to Stillwater to help solve a double murder of two teenage girls found frozen in the snow.
Wondering if this is the work of a serial killer that she has been tracking or a copycat, Nikki hopes to solve the murders quickly and leave Stillwater as soon as possible.
Unfortunately for Nikki, past and present collide and suddenly there are doubts about the guilt of her parents killer. Nikki seems to battle a killer on the loose as well as her memories of a horrific night twenty years ago. The questions from the past night open the door to solving this present day crime.
The Girls in the Snow is the first in the Nikki Hunt series by Stacy Green. It was fast-paced, riveting, tense and a gritty mystery. Nikki is a tough as nails yet vulnerable protagonist. The Girls in the Snow is the first and hopefully not last engaging crime thriller. Looking forward to the next Nikki Hunt thriller.
I received an advance copy of this book from NetGalley. #NetGalley #TheGirlsintheSnow

This book had hooked me from the beginning. I usually don’t read detective type thrillers, so it was a change of pace but I enjoyed it. The characters kept me guessing and there was plenty of twists and turns as I read, I see that this will be a series and would be interested in reading more from this author.

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.
