This was the second book in the series.
I loved the main characters, Kristin and Ryan, and I loved the twist on both needing to be dominant. Unfortunately, for me, a lot of the scenes fell short. There was a lot of background drama, action , and suspense but it never seemed to become well defined. Rather it all left me a little confused and unsure as to exactly what was going on, but not in a good suspenseful way.
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

A kinky romance that is written quite well. Good characters and a solid foundation. I enjoyed the book for the most part.

Making the Switch is told from two points of view, Kristin and Ryan. Both characters are dominant, yet their chemistry is so intense, they’re willing to switch between dominant and submissive for each other. Having met in a previous book, Taking the Lead which focuses on Ryan’s twin brother Reese and his wife Jessa, they already have chemistry and a complicated relationship when the book starts. Through a series of interactions at a club called Kinklink, Kristin and Ryan must learn to switch and see if they can make a relationship work.

In the background there’s a lot of extra stuff going on. Kristin has a complex relationship with her mother and finds out through a DNA test her father is a thug and mobster which adds complications. Ryan meanwhile is a private investigator and is dealing with being stalked/harassed by a previous employee stroke ex girlfriend. There’s the potential for lots of intrigue and a thriller brewing in the background, but by 50% of the book, the vast majority of the book was sex scenes or sexual encounters.

So why didn’t I finish it?

To be honest, the book simply wasn’t good enough to continue, but it wasn’t bad enough to read for the train wreck, like I sometimes do with binnable books like The Pink Villa. It wasn’t the worst thing I’d ever read, but with only so much time in a day for reading, I don’t think it’s worth forcing yourself to finish something you’re not getting anything from.

I liked both the characters of Ryan and Kristin, and I really liked the complex dynamic between Jessa, Reece, Kristin and Ryan. There’s a lot to unpack there, between the twins and the two best friends. Kinklink itself sounds wonderful and it’s a shame we’re not really given much in the way of juicy details. There was so much potential for depth in character and plot; but it just isn’t there. The character interactions end up being fairly flimsy, the plot is just feather light, surrounded by sex scenes, and the sex scenes weren’t particularly titillating.

I really am not a huge fan of feedback that says show, not tell, but generally it is good advice. In Making the Switch, I feel like the author attempted to show us things rather than tell us, but it ends up being a bit over the top descriptively. Instead of people just being angry, jaws are always clenched, nerves are always pulsing, fists are always balls. Eyes constantly flash and tell entire stories, changing colour multiple times in one scene. Ryan has blue eyes, then hazel eyes, then green eyes. His eyes of steel tell Kristin so many things. Every show just seems a little bit over the top and it gets tiresome to read.

The sex scenes had so much potential as the double dom storyline is a really creative and unique idea for conflict; but ultimately Kristin just ends up having orgasms all over the place instantly and there wasn’t enough tension or build to keep me interested.

I did find the interactions between the twin brothers, Ryan and Reese, and Reese’s wife Jessa quite titillating, so might consider reading the first book, that covers their threesome story. Tara Eldana certainly has some unique ideas for sexual tension. It’s a shame the execution just isn’t there yet.

There were a few other things that annoyed me, a few tense mistakes, a few typos or incorrect words used, a chunk of scene switches that left me wondering where/when we’d shifted to, and a lot of “She” and “He” in scenes of the same-sex character that sometimes left me uncertain who was doing what without re-reading it.

I DNF’ed this at 50%, so this is just my impression from the first half of the book. It’s entirely possible that the second half gets considerably better, but I think I gave it a fair chance to capture my interest and it failed.

Complementary copy given for honest review and opinion.
Hot tamales!! I loved this book. I did enjoy the story line behind it. It felt that the Kinklink was a bit far fetched for the Author but it was a good read.

I need to start off with saying that my review would probably be better if I had read the first book in this series. I’m not sure if it’s meant to be read as a series or if the author was trying to create standalone novels that could be connected. If she was going for the latter, it didn’t work for me because I ended up feeling lost and confused, as if i was missing out on some important details. The dynamic between characters was stilted and awkward, there seemed to be a lot of repetition in talking about the past storyline, and I just didn’t connect with the plot or characters. The idea behind this is incredibly unique with both the characters wanting to switch up being sub or dom but I think the execution was lacking a little bit. I would’ve wanted more details about their boundaries and guidelines in regards to switching. While the sex scenes are explicit and often, I found them to be very subpar. Out of nowhere, both characters would switch from talking normally, to talking as sub/dom and a few sentences later were coming together. I just would’ve enjoyed more details in between how they went from point A to point B lol.

This book was unreadable. It needed to be edited into a coherent structure. It was like a mad libs of assorted sentences that didn't make sense next to each other. Thoughts just popped up randomly, things were repeated, and characters were one dimesional. Nothing about this book appealed to me

Reading the book, I was excited to see that the hot interactions between the two characters was at the beginning of the book. This brought me interest to the story. The beginning also had a slow drag in certain parts. The writer drew out the introductions of the characters in the beginning. These were very descriptive.
Perhaps the introductions of the characters should be spread out in the book with brief descriptions. Don’t bunch all the characters in the same scene. I was lost in who where the main characters. Also, BDSM is a good thing for erotic books, but I think the line should be drawn with siblings sharing moments together. It’s alright that these particular enjoyments are discussed, but maybe not shared together with a woman that they both and she’s married to one of the other brother.
This made me lose interest in the book. I voluntary reviewed this ARC after receiving a free gifted copy. <img src="https://www.netgalley.com/badge/21abbc6d2f62a80d56d9e8ae6c15dff82ebee8dc" width="80" height="80" alt="25 Book Reviews" title="25 Book Reviews"/>
