Great resource for anxiety! I enjoyed reading about it and learning. It is beneficial to have different information and exercises. |
Great little pocket guide, some useful tips and helpful things to practice, especially handy to have on you this year. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy for an honest opinion |
As someone that suffers from Anxiety, this book hits a lot of points on the nose. It breaks it down to where it is easy to understand and the suggestions are practical to use. This Pocket Therapy, guide collection is something that people can use as a reference when need. I hope they sell them as a collection as well and not just individuals. These will be added to by Mental Health library of go-to books for sure. Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC. |
This is, without any doubt, the best book I've read this year so far. It is so interesting and complete! I'm very glad that I choose this (I've heard it through a friend ) - everything about it is so on point. It is extremely helpful to people like me who want to find ways to cope with anxiety. It teaches all sorts of things, even things you wouldn't think about that influence your anxiety levels. It is the best book about anxiety I have ever read. Rating: 5/5 stars. |
Right at the beginning there is an explanation about what anxiety is, different types of anxiety, causes, etc. I found that very helpful. It set the tone really nicely for the rest of the book. This book has a lot of different technics to help manage your anxiety on a day to day basis and they are all pretty simple to execute. It also has information on how to spot trigger behaviors/thoughts that may hinder your mental health and how to deal with them. I liked how the book mentions that keeping a healthy body is very important when it comes to having a healthy mind. Sometimes people tend to not connect their physical and psychological being, but there are very much intertwined. I liked that there was a section to write down notes at the end of the book. That’s always a nice addition to self help books. |
This book is really helpful if you or someone you know suffers from anxiety. It explains how to deal with anxiety without the use of medications. I learned a lot from this book and recommend it! |
I enjoyed this pocket size book with easy to understand practical tools that one can use to help with their anxiety. This is not new material to me but the idea of having it as a little book people can carry around with them is great. You never know when anxiety will hit. And no matter how familiar one may be with coping strategies, it's always good to have reminders. Thank you to NetGalley and New Harbinger Publications for an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review. |
An easy book, to always have near you. There is a lot of information about anxiety in general, and how to deal with it. A lot of advice too, for when you feel anxious, or simply tips to better control it in your everyday life. It is made for people to take notes on it, about what you read or your experiences, to help you. Definitely something to keep on yourself at all time. |
This book is a handy tool for anyone struggling with anxiety. Many of the practices described in this book have been used by me in my journey of battling with anxiety on a daily basis before encountering this book, but the Pocket Book for Anxiety makes it so much easier by bringing all those techniques in this handy pocket book. After going through it and doing some experimentation, I have recognised the techniques that work for me in various situations. Now whenever I am hit by anxiety, all I have to remember is to reach out to my pocket book (just like I used to reach out to my anxiety tablets) and it reminds me of all the ways I can employ to deal with the situation at hand. It reminds of the power I have over my anxiety and what I can do to stay in control. It’s so much easier to have all these techniques compiled in one pocket book instead of having to remember them all, which becomes increasingly difficult when anxiety hits. I suggest this book to everyone who has a nearly daily encounter with anxiety, and also to those who are struggling with stress – these techniques help you become more grounded and stay in the driver’s seat of your life, without having to go through the arduous process of searching through a number of web-pages online. It’s a great companion that is there to support you through tough times. |
How frustrating is it to be told by all the different sources the things you must do to be successful in life? This book definitely does NOT do that. It instead takes an empathetic approach and gives bite size approaches and allows you to have kindness and patience with yourself when dealing with anxiety. This is so necessary for everyone to read in life. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. |
This can be helpful for a lot of people and doesn't shame using medication or therapy while also offering cheap as well as natural solutions. |
Pocket Therapy for Anxiety is a book that provides reminders or new tips for anyone dealing with anxiety. The chapter I enjoyed the most was to Think Realistically - it provided examples of fearful thoughts and then provided solutions/methods to be able to move forward from those fearful thoughts. It provides reminders that eating right, exercising/moving our bodies and breathing/meditation can help individuals cope with anxiety. Thank you Netgalley and New Harbinger Publications for the e-arc in exchange for my honest opinion. |
This book aims to help the reader recognize and manage anxiety in their life. They provide exercises to complete to help with anxiety and to improve your overall quality of life. I think this book is a great reference tool for those readers who struggle with anxiety. Overall, I recommend this book to all readers who want to learn more about how to manage their anxiety. *Disclaimer: I was provided a free copy of this book by the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. |
This title is part of a series that also includes Pocket Therapy for Emotional Balance and Pocket Therapy for Stress. One or all of these may be quite helpful to readers as they deal with our unique historical moment and their own personal challenges. Following an introduction this book is divided into ten chapters that are filled with strategies for self-care. A few of the chapter headings include Relax Your Body, Face Your Fears, Get Regular Exercise and Your Anxiety Took Kit. A great deal is packed into this title’s under two hundred pages. The book begins with a helpful introduction that describes the nature of anxiety and its various types. Readers will learn about everything from situational anxiety to panic attacks and the multi-factorial basis that may result in an individual’s anxiety. The included approaches to coping with anxiety come from a variety of clinical orientations including cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness and more. Following the introduction, the book moves to its individual chapters. The first chapter on the body offers a technique described as progressive muscle relaxation. There are many more approaches and tips that follow throughout this title. This book appears to be an excellent resource on its topic. It will be welcomed by those in the mental health community along with individuals who are trying to live with the effects of the anxious state. Note: the book is for self-help. Those needing medication are encouraged to consult with a mental health professional. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC All opinions are my own. Pub date: November 1, 2020. This title will be available in both e book and book formats. |

As a therapist and behavior specialist, I find this book very helpful with providing guidance to my clients and with the development of behavior support plans |
This self help book really touched on some great objectives with ways of dealing with anxiety. The topics were appropriate and had some great techniques to cope/deal with anxiety. I would highly recommend this to those who suffer with anxiety. It really helped with thought controls and was not very overwhelming in trying to help. An easy, not-overwhelming little guide to anxiety, with tangible techniques for physical and mental relaxation. It highlights the importance of sleep, nutrition, and exercise (all of which I’m definitely slacking on), along with concrete coping and affirmation strategies. The realistic thinking chapter was painfully relatable; I’ve already journaled half the strategies. Special mentions to methods for managing filtering (when you focus on the negatives), polarized thinking, overgeneralization, and magnifying (exaggerating intensity of problems) with tangible practices of breaking down distorted thoughts and replacing them with realistic ones. Last but not least, a reminder to nourish yourself, be willing to do less, pace yourself (downtime is important!), and simplify your life where you can--be kind and forgiving to you. |
I struggle with anxiety and reading and thankfully it's pocket sized and will be ideal to carry around. It helps with breathing and it also has mental exercises that help with anxiety. It helped me with breathing in moments I was anxious and stressed out. I recommend this book to everyone that struggles with anxiety . A huge thanks to the publisher for my e-arc |
I found this book to be a very helpful reference for someone already familiar with the therapy process or has gone through counseling or other treatment for anxiety prior. It's helpful for providing a refresher on how to step back and assess one's anxiety, and the reasons for it. The additional context provided is also useful. I'd caution against someone attempting to self-diagnose, but if you're looking to deepen your knowledge of self-help and healthy coping mechanisms, this is a worthy read. |
