This book can be read as a stand-alone but it is book #3 in the Forgotten Brotherhood Series.

Jo and Asher have a chemistry that really ignites on the page. When you see them briefly interact with other characters from the previous books you can see why their chemistry is so great.

I normally don't like vampire books much because I felt I've outgrown that phase, but here we are and I'm still loving them.

This book comes out on 9/21/20 and I have a friend that it would be perfect to get for her! She will absolutely love it.

‘Burning Ash’ is a fun paranormal adventure that you can read in one sitting.

When vampire hunter Jo and vampire Asher meet, they’re both following the same anonymous clue: there’s a vampire set on slaughtering a group of humans. Once that immediate threat is dealt with, the two find themselves thrown together in a plot that has been set in motion to take out Asher and other members of the Brotherhood, an elite group of supernatural beings tasked with keeping the peace on Earth. While their attraction is undeniable, their future is uncertain. The one thing that Asher knows? That this human is worth dying for.

While this book can be read as a standalone, I think I missed out a bit on the mythology surrounding Asher, as well as with some of the supporting characters in the book, by not reading the prior two novels in the series. I wish there would have been more specificity or a tighter narrative regarding all of the supernatural characters, because I felt like I didn’t get a sense for the universe that the author is trying to create. And the story doesn’t really end with this book. It’s more of an HFN than an HEA. That being said, I loved the idea of throwing a human vampire hunter and a vampire together, and this novel has some great moments between the two, including some super steamy scenes.

If you’re a fan of PNR, and like complicated worlds, ‘Burning Ash’ is a great bet.

Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Very important to note that "Burning Ash" is book # 3 in the "Forgotten Brotherhood" Series by N. J. Walters. While it can be read alone, I felt like I was missing out on the key essence of the book which may have been explored in previous novels which affected my overall review of the novel.

Burning Ash is the story of Asher and Jo who were mysteriously thrown together by an anonymous email. Jo is a "hunter" of vampires and ironically enough, Asher just happens to be one of the biggest and baddest vamps out. I honestly thought the backstory and plot development was great and that the "Forgotten Brotherhood" series has all the ingredients to become a cult favorite similar to the "Black Dagger and Immortals After Dark" series but the character development of Jo and Asher was not my favorite.

I found the relationship to be very rushed and disjointed and at times almost stereotypical. I honestly had to stop an eye-roll or two because of how cliche and predictable some of the scenes were. Despite my experience with Asher and Jo I did like the secondary characters of Maccus and Morrigan and am sufficiently intrigued enough to read the series from book one before I make up my mind about the "Brotherhood Series" as a whole.

Thank you to N. J. Walters and Entangled Publishing LLC and NetGalley for providing me with an arc.

What I’ve enjoyed about the Forgotten Brotherhood books so far is that each has it’s own slightly unique feel as the world building for the series grows. These dangerous but sexy assassins tend to keep to themselves so the stories remain very focused but also allow for the true connection that they feel toward each other as members of the Forgotten Brotherhood and the building sense that something or someone(s) is quite possibly messing with them from the fringes. Ash and Jo’s story includes the twist, turns and surprises (as well as sexy heat) to keep you interested and turning pages. Ash is surprising laid back even while there is do doubt of his top predator status. Jo is tough but sensible even as she realizes there is a whole lot more to the supernatural world than the crazy vampires she’d been hunting. Together they make a good team as they work together to discover what hidden enemy or enemies are attempting to manipulate and endanger them and what more they can be to each other together. Definitely looking forward to the next book.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I've been wanting to read about Asher since he was first introduced in book one of the series. He is one of the oldest vampires around and was surprised by his sense of humor. After receiving an anonymous tip, he ends up meeting vampire hunter Jo on her hunt.

Jo and Asher have great chemistry. Both are strong characters and are responsible for taking care of vampires (paranormals) who cross the line. While Asher is intense, he is also caring and it is sweet watching him try and take care of Jo at times. There are several cameos of a few characters from a previous book and we see a little more of another Brotherhood member who I am assuming the next book will be based off of. The ending was definitely a twist I was not expecting, which I always enjoy.

It was interesting to see where the vampires of NJ's world originated from and I thought it was a unique idea. I recommend this book. While you can read it alone, there may be a few small things you miss if you don't read the first and second book. I enjoyed book two and liked Alexei, but I do think that I liked this book more.

Asher is part of the Forgotten Brotherhood, think exterminators of bad guy paranormals. Asher is one of the first Vampires, blessed by an Egyptian Goddess to protect humans and paranormals alike. Over his long life, he has amassed a portfolio of real-estate, giving him bolt-holes around the world. It's also given him time to learn lots of skills, including his scar aptitude with technology. So he's a bit perturbed, to say the least when someone seems to be able to send him anonymous emails.

Jo became a vampire hunter early in life. She can kick vampiric a$$, she is a badass no matter what her gender (although even in this version of Earth she gets taken for a man more often than not!) When she received an anonymous email leading her to "Vlad" and his circle of worshippers, she had no option than to go. But she never expected to be aided by one of the biggest, badest hunters of them all - Ash. Now they're stuck together trying to determine who is pitting them against each other and why.

But Jo is a little behind in the info department, she doesn't realise Ash is a vampire - after all, he can walk in the sun, eat food and drink. So just who is the real target: Jo, Asher, or both?

Edge of the seat action, passion off the charts, and lots of miscommunication. Jo has an ingrained reason to hate all vampires but I loved the way she seemed to take Asher as a whole other level of vampire and didn't tar him too much with the same monster brush. Ash is also a great hero. He may be all "protect the female" but he is more than willing to acknowledge that Jo is just as capable as he is, just without the super speed.

Maccus and Morrigan make superb supporting characters this time around and we also get to see a certain Berserker Viking. He is going to be oh so awesome to read about in the future - he has an almighty powerful backstory!

Yep, The Forgotten Brotherhood is still climbing on my favorite series list! After Arctic Bite I was very happy to see that Asher would get his own story in Burning Ash. And what a story: after receiving an anonomous email with a vampire target, Asher decides to check it out. Not because of its target, but because he can't trace the sender. On arrival, he encounters a badass vampire slayer, Jo Radcliff. She received the same email and that got them both on high alert. Who is behind this and why does Asher keep feeling that malignant presence every now and then?
The suspicion and insta-attraction between Jo and Asher results in hilarious banter and all kind of funny situations. Add the scary Maccus (yep, from Fury Unleashed) and his tough-as-nails Morrigan, who make regular appearances throughout the story and you have a great read.
Alexei and Cassie (from Arctic Bite) unfortunately don't make an appearance, but they are mentioned. We also meet Bjorn, another member of the Forgotten Brotherhood. My heart nearly broke from his very sad history, so I do really hope that N.J. Walters will give him a story of his own.
In all, five out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.

This book starts with a bang and keeps the pace all the way through. Never a dull moment. The characters were so diverse it made for a great read. Asher was truly ancient yet crazy modern in many ways. I loved it!

Jo is a vampire hunter, one whose personal tragedy has made her hate vampires and dedicate her life to exterminating them. When an anonymous email tip sends her to stop a crazed vampire, she meets Asher, who received the same anonymous email.
Asher is an ancient vampire & one of the most powerful members of the Forgotten Brotherhood, powerful beings who are called upon to execute misbehaving paranormals; think PNR "SEALs".
The moment Asher lays eyes on Jo, he is immediately attracted - a strong, confident, beautiful woman not to mention the fact that she was bristling with weapons and has kick ass fighting skills!
This is the 3rd in the series but it definitely can be read as a standalone. Both characters are wonderful: in spite of them both (or maybe because of) being strong, skilled fighters, both are lonely and just a little tired and jaded of all the killing. The romance is pretty swoon-worthy; Asher is totally protective of Jo even though he knows she is a capable fighter. Loved the humour too; snarky and cheeky and never cliched.
Great book!

Jo is a vampire hunter whose main goal in life is to eradicate the world of vicious blood-suckers. Asher is an ancient vampire who is part of The Brotherhood, a group of supernaturals who live by a strict moral code and mete out justice only to those who deserve to die. One of the most dangerous men in the world, Asher never thought he would fall for someone. But there’s something about the fierce vampire-huntress that he can’t resist. Bound together by emails that have targeted both Jo and the Brotherhood, Asher and Jo work together to find out who is behind the attempts on Jo’s life.

The feelings between Jo and Asher are deep and passionate. I love that Asher is attracted to Jo’s strength and confidence. He likes how she handles herself in battle, and he’s amazed by her skill. Jo, in turn, appreciates Asher’s skill in combat and immense self-control. Neither ever let their guard down, and they are both slow to trust, which makes sense considering their pasts and their lives as hunters. It also makes for some sizzling chemistry! Jo and Asher are so drawn to each other, and their connection is strong and awesome to see grow.

The other characters in the book are interesting as well. I intend to go back and read the first two books in the series to learn more about Morrigan and Maccus, minor characters in this book who have lead roles in the first book, and as well as Alexei and other characters that have small appearances in Burning Ash.

Burning Ash is a great story for readers who enjoy paranormal romance with strong heroines, powerful alpha males, and a lot of action. Though it is the third book in the Forgotten Brotherhood series, it can easily be read as a standalone, as can the other books. Thanks so much to Netgalley and Entangled Publishing for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.

ARC received for review

Don't shoot me when I say this but vampires aren't my favorite to read about (and I've never read or seen the Twilight series). But Asher, I liked. He's perfect for Jo even if she's a vampire hunter. Lots of action, drama, intrigue, and hot sex. Maccus and Morrigan appear again to offer some help. Loved meeting that big Viking...fingers crossed that he's next to get a HEA.

This is the 3rd book in a series about the Forgotten Brotherhood. We've had a fallen angel (book 1), bear (book 2) and now a vampire. They're all the chosen ones of their species. In Asher's case if the Vampire Council can't handle a rogue vampire, Asher is sent to take care of it. He's ancient and a myth to most most vampires. Jo is a vampire bounty hunter. Guess you could say this is opposites attract, but they also share the same mission to kill the bad guys.

Asher is 100% alpha but also a lot more lighthearted and playful than I expected. Towards the end he and Jo create a bond that’s emotional and vulnerable. The two also play off the expressionless and intimidating Maccus (fallen angel and leader of the brotherhood -book 1). I need to go back and read Maccus and Morrigan's book as I loved their multiple appearances and role in Asher and Jo's story. I wasn't a fan of book 2 (which I read 1st) and Alexei (bear) is only mentioned.

There's an introduction of another member of the brotherhood, Bjorn, a werewolf. His backstory sounds tragic and I’m ready to see who/how his heroine will work out. More of their world is revealed about gods and fate and the supernatural. There’s now a tie being developed between the books and I love how it’s crossing over and connecting the characters.

The third book in the Forgotten Brotherhood is very much an opposites attract kind of a book - what with him being a vampire and her being a vampire hunter!!

Thrown together by complete coincidence (and anonymous emails) Asher and Jo find themselves working together to try to find out who is throwing them together and who is after the Forgotten Brotherhood.

With a chance to see some previous characters (and how they have continued to develop after their book finished) and an introduction to a future hero this book does not disappoint

RATING 4.5 STARS

Burning Ash is book three in the Forgotten Brotherhood series by N.J. Walters. This can be read as a stand alone although the couple from the first book does appear in this one. There is also a small, unfinished element that carries on throughout the series. The covers of this series grab me every single time as did this one.

Jo Radcliffe is twenty nine years old and is a vampire hunter. Driven by tragedy in her younger years, her life’s ambition is to eliminate vampires from the earth. An anonymous email sends her to a small church gathering with a hungry vampire. Only, she isn’t the only one who received that email.

Asher is a ten thousand year old vampire, thought of as a legend by many. Only he is real. He is more powerful than any vampire. He can walk in sunshine, eat human food, live undetected among humans. He is one of the Forgotten Brotherhood, a group of varying paranormals tasked with eliminating the worse of the worse. The beings that their own leaders can’t deal with. He is curious when he receives an untraceable email with information of a vampire with a bloodlust. Only once he gets there, it’s not the vampire that is holding his attention, it’s the beautiful hunter. And the only thing that keeps repeating in his brain is, “protect her.”

“For ten thousand years, the world had changed but he had remained the same. Until Jo.”

Someone went to a lot of trouble to bring Jo and Asher together. Is Jo just bait and Asher the real target? Is someone trying to dismantle the brotherhood? Or, is it Jo they want? Jo and Asher team up to try to figure out what is happening and the unlikeliest of bonds begins to form, the vampire and the hunter. They realize they both want the same thing, to eradicate the evil and protect the innocent. And they find something else neither ever hoped for, love.

This was a sexy, steamy, suspenseful story that kept me on the edge of my seat. I loved that both of these two were tough but still just soft enough to make me feel all squishy at times. I loved that we got to see quite a bit of Maccus and Morrigan from the first book. I still adore them. And, we meet a new brother so that was exciting. This is such an amazing series and I’m excited to see what might come next.

“She was his miracle.”

Absolutely love this series. Asher tries to protect Jo, but she can take care of her self. Marcus is called to assist in keeping Jo safe. And a new character is introduced. Can't wait for the next book.

I feel like I'm a bit late to the party,I didn't realize this was the 3rd book in the series.Having said that ignorance is bliss and it didn't spoil my enjoyment,it just makes me want to read the other books now.I love the world and the characters that have been created ,very original and interesting.i like having strong females as well as the male characters. Not giving anything away but I do enjoy a good urban fantasy, and this is good.

**I received a copy of Burning Ash from Entangled Publishing and Net Galley in exchange for a voluntary and honest review. My opinions are my own and not solicited in any way.**

Burning Ash by N. J. Walters is the third book in her Forgotten Brotherhood series. While not my favorite one this is very worthy of the four star rating. The snarky comments between Jo and Asher and Jo and a vampire who thinks he's invincible--hmm she's the one with the cross bow so I think she wins that battle, are the best part of the whole book!

Jo Radcliffe is one of the best vampire slayers but when she receives an anonymous email about a shady Vamp she'll meet her match when Asher shows up as well. After dispatching the bad guy they'll wonder if someone either wants Jo, Asher or the Forgotten Brotherhood dead because the emails keep coming. So it's a race against time to find the person whose putting out a contract on Jo it will take Asher, Maccus, Morrigan and others to get the answers needed to stop the attacks.

Asher has never met anyone like Jo who can dispatch a vamp and then go out for a hearty breakfast afterwards. But he's got a suspicious someone wants her dead and he's been around since the Egyptians were building pyramids but getting Maccus to help him find out the who and the why might be harder. Plus now he's falling in love which could be hard as he's immortal and she isn't.
When it seems like the Forgotten Brotherhood is targeted with Jo it's going to take everyone's skills to catch the person behind the emails.

With "Burning Ash" I was able to read a different vampire story which I truly enjoyed. It was also my first book of the author and I really can recommend the story to all romantasy readers out there.
As of page 1 I was fully into the story of Asher and Jo, and this also thanks to the style of writing, as we get to experience both minds, Asher and Jo. This gives the reader both sides of the coin, both feelings and thoughts. I did enjoy this very much!
Asher is just one hot, sexy vampire, but he is also loving and caring. Jo, one girl of a fighter, is not too trusting in the beginning, but I do love her development as she gets more brave with every page.
The dynamic between those two was great and I loved the fact that it was not a constant back-and-forth.

You also get to meet members of the brotherhood, or see them again in case you've read book 1, which is not a must though. The story goes very nicely.

As always with Entangled Publishing, I just love the story, the characters, the sexy scenes, but also the danger and adventure. Go out there and get Asher and Jo.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

The deeper we get into this series, the more the story unfolds. There's a lot happening and a bit of mystery of who is doing what. I like the suspense that was going on in Burning Ash because there's a hit on Jo and no one can pinpoint who's behind it all.

I have to say that soooo many authors are giving us the strong-independent heroines and I'm here for it! I absolutely LOVED Jo, she's such a badass and I enjoyed the heck out of seeing her hold her own alongside Asher.

The Forgotten Brotherhood has definitely been one of the most interesting and I'm just eager to meet all of them. I'm glad that we get to see Macchus from book 1 and we're introduced to Bjorn, who I can't wait to read about. His story is definitely a heartbreaking one.

I'm enjoying watching these protective kicka** heroes fall in love. Asher is definitely one of my favorites and he was constantly cracking me up. The chemistry is off the charts with Asher and Jo and I was loving every minute of it.

I can't wait for the next book in the series and more truths being revealed over the series story arc!

This is the 3rd book in the series about the Forgotten Brotherhood. We met asher previously but never got to see this side of him. Asher meets Jo while taking out a vampire. Their chemistry was a lot of fun and hot. There are some fighting and some sexy times. I suggest reading the first two books since there is some reference to previous stories. I really like the heroines in this series. They are no-nonsense, kick-ass ladies who end up having these big alpha men wrapped around their fingers.
