This story moved along at a good pace and the characters were very likeable. Marian (Mari) has suffered an horrendous marriage and was now escaping to her sister in the Highlands. Her accidental husband is Cam, the war chief of the MacKinlays. Cam didn’t want to marry because of his own past experiences. However, he is an honourable and caring man. I liked the way he was very patient with Mari’s fears. The author created a feeling of tension through out the book as Mari waited for her past to catch up with her. Mari was a brave lady inspite of her fears. There are some dangerous events and oh my! some heartfelt moments, particularly towards the end. This was an engaging story that I enjoyed very much. I received a copy and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Move over Jamie Fraser, Cameron is here to steal your girl. Except he doesn't want her initially because he's such a giant cinnamon roll he doesn't want to leave a widow behind like his mom had been *key in the swoon of brooding manly thoughts*

So when Marian literally runs into his life after murdering her abusive husband, I was so here for this match up! The tension was salacious and the story will take you on a journey of discovering what really matters, overcoming short sighted society, and letting love in! Simply beautiful and I want more!

I thought that this was a very good read and a promising start to this new series. This book has a well written, strong storyline which for me is always a huge plus. I really liked Marion and Cameron both as individuals and as a couple. Marion's tragic and painful history will truly make your heart break for her. She deserved a swoon worthy, protective and sweet guy and that is exactly what she got with Cameron. I will say that he had a bit of a different feel than the typical "Highlander Hero" but I felt that made perfect sense in this case because "normal" would have had a hard time breaking through to Marion. This was just an excellent all the feels, action packed, heart melting romance.

This story brought me to tears. Mari had been through the most hellish marriage of beatings and abuse...and then the struck back and killed her husband. On the run, she ran into Cameron, a Highland War Chief and suddenly they were married.

This story tells of her finding her safe and happy place, being reunited with her husband and family. With Cam discovering true joy after years of never letting his heart open to anyone. And then the English soldiers come to arrest Mari.

I don't want to spoil the story, but truly, in the last two chapters, my heart hurt so much for these two sweet, strong, loving people. Please give this story a read, as I truly think you will love it.

I could not recommend this book enough. It has been a long time since a book has made me truly feel. This book made me feel many emotions and even brought me to tears. This is the story Marian who killed her abusive husband who happened to be a Duke. She ran away from London and back to her Scottish home or at least her sister’s home in Scotland.

While running from her pursuers she happens upon Cameron MacKinlay, War Chief for her sister’s clan. They declare each other husband and wife which results in a handfasting. We then watch them as they woo each other while battling their own insecurities. There is plenty of action and angst to keep the story flowing.

I highly recommend this book to people who enjoy the writing of Hannah Howell, Lynsay Sands and Donna Fletcher.

Her Accidental Highlander Husband was a pleasant surprise! I loved Cameron and Mari’s first meeting. He definitely stepped up to the plate to protect a stranger. Which, as we know, becomes Mari and Cameron’s hand-fasted marriage. His strong protective nature does not end there. Cameron is not only a huge man; he has a huge heart which slowly becomes Mari’s. They fall in love as he is trying to help her heal and she is learning to trust again.

I loved the notes Mari and Cameron exchanged for communication– kind of adds to the anticipation. These two seemed to be able to make their unusual marriage work just due to caring about and for each other. Cameron’s attempts to get try to make Mari angry so she would see he was not like her previous husband add to the humor of the romance.

Not often am I surprised by an ending. We know the HEA is coming, but Ms. Hanson held the veiled hints until the end, and I was still surprised. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

This was a new to me author, so I didn't have any preconceived notions or ideas going in. In all honesty, I actually thought I probably wouldn't like it. Cue swooning maidens. However, I was so, so wrong. This book was absolutely fantastic !! I mean sure, there were some bits that were a bit hard to read because there are monsters out there. Still, at no point did it take away from the fantastic plot line. Cam was perfection. A mix between tough warrior, tender heart, funny and witty. I adore him. Mari was so strong, faced her fate head on, even knowing what was to come. She was brave and sweet. Even Lachlan and Kenna were great. I could not get enough !! I seriously think I should look into more of this author's books because I really enjoyed her writing style.

4.5/5 stars. I was surprised by how much I liked this book—despite the quirky title, it definitely has heavy themes (though the darker parts happen off page). Marian and Cam’s relationship is well developed, and this historical romance has just the right amount of angst. Ms. Hanson gives good character development without unrealistic, flawless heroes and heroines. Cam and Marian are both stubborn, but their reasons aren’t unfounded, and I appreciate that they are a committed couple. Cam in particular is a refreshing historical romance hero compared to the rakes and scoundrels trope, and Marian is tragic but strong. If you enjoyed The Highlander by Kerrigan Byrne and The Secret by Julie Garwood I think you’ll like this read.

Marian Fletcher Blackley, Duchess of Endsmere, has been on the run from the English Crown for weeks since killing her abusive husband in self-defence. She has only one safe place to go—the MacKinlay clan in Scotland, where her sister is the laird’s wife. War Chief Cameron MacKinlay has vowed never to marry after witnessing his widowed mother’s grief. One day whilst in the fields a sprite of a lass comes running out of the forest with hounds nipping at her heels and an English bounty hunter not far behind, Cam feels compelled to save her by claiming the dishevelled woman is his wife. But he certainly didn’t intend to marry her for real! And now he’ll do anything to protect her.
This is the first book I’ve read by the author & it certainly won’t be the last. I believe it's her first historical romance & very accomplished it is. Mari was strong, resilient & also resigned to her fate, Cam is the quintessential Highlander, tall, broad, fierce but with a kind, caring & loyal heart. I loved how Cam gradually broke down Mari’s fears & how she came to trust him. They were perfect for each other. A well written book with characters who had depth & were very likeable. The pace was also very good & I found myself engrossed in their story & really wondered if they would have their HEA
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

It's an emotional and romantic story and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. It's the kind of story that anyone can fall in love with. Marian and Cameron are perfectly imperfect characters who fit together beautifully. What starts as a marriage of convenience soon turns into much, much more.
The book is very well-written and there are enough twists and turns in the story to keep the readers entertained. Although the story isn't anything over the top, just you usual historical romance set in the highland, the writing style and the execution makes it special. As I said, I found it to be very emotional read. There is sadness and tragedy as well as a happily ever after, which basically makes it perfect. I hope other enjoy it as much as I did. For me, it's one of the best historical fictions I have read this year. I'd definitely recommend it to others.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This book starts off quickly and never lets up. Within the first chapter, the murder, fleeing of London, and accidental marriage all take place – not a spoiler, it’s in the book description. I was concerned when all of these major plot points occurred so quickly that there would be a lot of lagging in the rest of the book. There wasn’t. The pacing of the book is spot on.

As is typical of a romance novel (or really most novels), the main characters each try to hold secret their own troubles, but won’t abide that is the other, which results in them actually talking to each other and sharing their burdens – like a really couple. This is incredibly refreshing in a romance novel – actually, ANY writing – because for too long we’ve been show that each individual should sacrifice themselves (mentally, emotionally, etc.) to soldier on and be the strong one. This book shows a true partnership and is amazing.

As a caution/trigger warning, (again, not a spoiler) the heroine was a victim of domestic abuse and continues to suffer the emotional and mental impacts of her past throughout much of the book – as would truly happen with any survivor. This is met with grace and support and some bumbling best-of-intentions, but never ignored, ridiculed, or brushed aside. I found the emotional maturity of all characters in the book refreshing and wonderful to read.

The opening scene is so good! Immediately I was in and a few pages later when she meets her accidental husband solidified it. I could not put this down and before I knew it it was over. We get to see Mari and Cam fall in love and later deal with the consequences of killing the Duke. That part left me feeling like they weren't going to get their HEA.

Marian Fletcher Blackley, Duchess of Endsmere, flees London after killing her husband in self-defense. The only safe place is can run to, the MacKinlay clan in Scotland, where her sister is the laird's wife.

War Chief Cameron MacKinlayhas vowed to never marry. His lands and his clan are enough for a happy life. While out on the lands he sees a dishevelled lass comes running out of the forest chased by hounds and an English bounty hunter. He feels an overwhelming need to protect her, claims she is his wife and now they're married.

Now, he'll do anything to protect her.

Thanks so much to Entangled Publishing and NetGalley for this ARC.

What a book!! Just when I was going to put it down, I would turn the page and bang! Be right back in time, in the Scottish Highlands. Woo, what a story!
The heroine is an English duchess because she married an English duke, but she is Scotch by birth. And she is looking down at her dead, bloody husband with a fire poker in her hands. Great beginning. The hero is just innocently working in a field, picking up boulders as punishment for refusing the command of his Laird to marry, when a dirty, smelly, ragged woman comes running out of the woods and climbs his body trying to get away from a tracker. The hero swears the woman is his wife and just like that, they are married. This story is a romance set amidst the grossness of real life where absolute power corrupts absolutely. There is.a thread of morality here about spousal abuse and abasement. It deals with the real effects of PTSD on females in the Cromwell time period. Corruption abounds and justice is hard to find. This story explores so many things but it is a romance. Where two people meet, see themselves in the other and allow love into their lives. I think this is a series, but it read like a single novel. Since they are in Scotland, in a clan, there are a ton of supporting characters. Thus book is extremely well written with few errors. It is a book where you have to read it and not just skim along to the good parts. If you want a book with heart, this is the book for you. I give it 5 plus stars and recommend reading it.

This book was an emotional rollercoaster in all the best ways! It had me hooked from the first sentence and didn't let me go until it was over.
Her Accidental Highlander Husband has alot of my favorite things.. a murder, a surprise handfasting to scottish warrior (my favorite kind of warrior) attraction, and slowly falling in love..
The summary on the back didn't prepare me for how much I loved this.. The characters felt so real, including the secondary characters of Kenna and Lachlan.. I hope we get their story in the future..

Mari, fearing for her life kills her abusive husband and flees to her sister in scotland. Right before she arrives she picks up a tail in the form of an English guy trying to arrest her for the murder. She runs right into the arms of Cameron they claim they are married in front of witnesses and the rest unfolds from there..

This was a highly addictive story from a new to me author, and I will definitely be reading more of her future historical romances!!

Thank you so much to Entangled Publishing and Netgalley for letting me read this ARC.. I absolutely loved it!!

Loved it! Allison Hanson writes such a good highland romance that it makes me wish I was the one in the story. Very well written and this chemistry was great.

3.5 stars ( Amalie Howard/Angie Morgan, Caroline Lee)

First time reading author Allison B. Hanson.

my personal markers for a great read...1. smart and engaging writing, 2. Humorous, 3. sexy interactions and 4. stories with family/friends.

The development and interest in main characters (cam/Mari) and secondary characters was enjoyable; loved her sister (Kenna). I really did like the H/H for this book; very well paired as a couple.

I loved the writing around the women empowerment (it wasn’t over the top for me). Badass women rock.

writing style is easy to follow, humorous moments, the give and take dialogue enjoyable. Mixing of Modern and Scottish written dialogue.

Action filled, family centred, traumatic events (no great detail in writing however it does help the reader with the personalities of the H/H) and relationship timeline takes place over 12-16 month period (it dragged on a bit for my enjoyment).

I’m not a huge fan of ‘internal dialogue’ or scenery writing in books. I can only take so much before I start skimming through pages and I found myself doing that with this book.

Romantic/sexual content (kissing, oral, love making scenes) was throughout the book. Nothing over the top; again nicely intertwined in the story. There are a few detailed written scenes and several just mentioning the act. 2.5/5 hotness and steam.

I love series around family members or a group of friends. I love the series even more when the author intertwines those characters throughout the book series (it’s a pet peeve when authors don’t do that because what’s the point of the series and introducing the characters if they are not going to interact throughout the series). Hopefully the series will include past characters.

recommend author.

Will read the next book by the author as the secondary characters peek my reading interest.

It’s more of 3.5 stars for me personally but I believe most people will enjoy the story and rate it 4/5.

Fabulous story!

From the very first page, this story grabbed me by the throat and wouldn't let go! I've read some instant-love and instant-married stories before, but these two were legally wed within minutes of meeting! And I absolutely loved every last bit of it!

Cam just happens to be in the right place at the right time when Mari needs rescuing from the English tracker right behind her. Her sister is married to his laird, so she quickly assimilates into the MacKinlay clan but her adjustment to marriage to Cam takes quite a bit longer. I loved Cam's teddy bear approach to making her feel safe as she sorts through her fears, her limited options, and the legal implications of her flight from England.

There's plenty of action of all kinds in this book. The scenes in Scotland are no less intense than the heartbreaking scenes in London. The author wove vivid imagery with fascinating characters and intriguing, no-easy-answers predicaments to create a captivating story that is unlike anything I've read before.

I have a short list of authors who can write complex, compelling Scottish Highlander stories, and it contains one new name now. I'm looking forward to reading more in this new series. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

An emotional roller coaster of a story that will make you laugh as well as cry. Mari kills hers husband after five years of emotional and physical abuse. She escapes to Scotland where she runs into Cam who rescues and marries her. This is a great story as it shows the strength of family and love and how it can help a person heal no matter the damage. Cam gives Mari the time and the space she needs to heal and grow. By doing so she is able to heal others around her. This is really a wonderful story filled with passion and love.
