This was fantastic on audio and brought me so much nostalgia. It made me remember why I love The Secret Garden as much as I do!

Beautiful narration of the classic I loved so much as a child. The narrator gave life to the characters and beautifully brought the plot life to the listener. While I enjoyed reading the book just because that’s my preference I thoroughly enjoyed this version. I listened with my children and we created great memories.

Thank you Netgalley

I thought this was a fantastic narration of an absolute classic. The Secret Garden is one of my favourite stories and I wasn’t sure how it would translate to audiobook but it did so fantastically. The narrator did a great job of keeping me interested and bringing this story to life. Highly recommend!

Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Audio for providing me with this review copy.

It was lovely to revisit a childhood classic through this abridged audiobook. The music, sound effects, and strong narration really help to keep you immersed in the story! I could see this being an excellent way for children to engage with what might otherwise be a bit of a challenging read.

However unfortunately — and perhaps this was only an issue with my download — several of the chapters appear to be out of order and made for a very confusing experience.

I have always enjoyed The Secret Garden, and I really enjoyed the pace of the narrative and the voice of the narrator. Although, my rating goes lower by one star just because of the book genre. I have never really given a middle grade book 5 stars, and so I would have to give the audiobook 4 stars!

This narration of this timeless classic is so well done. The extra sound effects make a charming addition to the narratiors rendition.
I will recommend this audio to many!

Glenda Jackson gorgeous and heartfelt narration did justice to this must-listen or/and must-read or/and must-watch classic and beloved tale.

The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett is one of those memorable and touching stories one wants to revisit every so often.

I am sure I am one of the few people who never read THE SECRET GARDEN growing up. However, in my personal life experience, this was probably the very best time for me to listen to the book.

The narrator and the sound effects were marvelous. I was enraptured by the story because I was always engaged with her gentle voice and sounds of chirping birds or other sounds of nature.

This is a beautiful production and will be highly recommended.

Decent audiobook. Nit big on the narrator. Good flow of the speech but I had to speed it up to get it to where I would want to listen.

I loved this book as a kid and the listening to the audiobook as an adult was a wonderful experience. The narration was done really well, the characters really came alive.

The narrator is excellent, and did a great job with accents, etc. There were also some fun audio effects like music and birdsong that added to the story and would be delightful for younger readers. This was my first time reading The Secret Garden, other than my third grade teacher reading it to us. It was an enjoyable experience. My only complaint is that the audio quality was sometimes inconsistent.

This story is a classic in the vein of Heidi and Pollyanna. Everyone should experience it at least once. Glenda Jackson has a perfect reading voice for this novella. Children should be subjected to the lessons of friendship and love that we learn from Mary, Dickon, and Colin. Each child has its own problems, but together, they are able to trust in each other. The great use of ambience music and background sounds makes this a great audiobook!

It’s amazing that I somehow missed reading this delightful book as a child. I absolutely love it as an adult, and I’m especially fond of this audiobook version. The narration and the sound effects are so well done. I highly recommend this for both first time readers and for those who love rereading in different formats. I will be sharing with my grandchildren for sure!

Well-Done Abridged Version of the Classic

Audiobook Review:
When I first started listening to this audiobook, I didn't realize it was of an older recording that has been abridged and remastered. Since I didn’t know, this made me somewhat surprised to hear the very old-fashioned music that wove throughout the narrative as bridges between scenes and chapters. (I did like the character’s pipe playing, though.) I am used to more modern-style audiobooks that have very little sound except for the narrator's voice. While I wasn't wild about the old-fashioned music, I did like the sound effects that made parts of the story sound like an old radio play. Glenda Jackson, of course, is a fantastic narrator for this book. She did different voices very well, making the children sound distinct. It felt like an English nanny was tucking me into bed and reading me a bedtime story. It had been a while since I’d read the book, but whoever did the abridging did an excellent job as I do not feel like this story lacked cohesion or consistency. This was a charming revisitation of a delightful classic children's tale.

Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Audio for an audio ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The Secret Garden follows a newly orphaned girl named Mary, who moves in with her rather deadbeat uncle in his manor. Amidst wallowing in her anger and loneliness, Mary discovers a secret garden, a secret cousin, and new friends in all shapes and sizes.

Glenda Jackson is an award winner for a reason, and has done such a lovely job narrating this title! I found absolutely no issues focusing on this book at all times of day or night. The audiobook features sound effects and music that truly add to the magical atmosphere of this classic.

I've been meaning to read The Secret Garden since I was eight and my grandmother surprised me with a copy and matching necklace. Now, at twenty-five, I'm still so glad that I finally did! This is a recommended read for anyone who enjoys classics, wonderful narrators, and a cute story of two children learning how to live life to the fullest and find happiness after tragedy.

Well, that was completely delightful! This audio performance by the Oscar winning Glenda Jackson was just perfect. A lovely narration complete with a little music and sound effects that made it feel like a radio play. A lovely revisit of a childhood favorite.
Thanks to NetGalley and Harper Audio for the opportunity to listen.

If you are a person that can't read or listen to a time piece that by today's standards would not be political correct without been negative then do not read something that was originally published in 1911.
This is an abridged version which feels complete but I liked the story so much that I purchased the unabridged audio version and also the Original Classic (kindle version). This specific version is a wonderful read that you can really enjoy listening to. It is about 3 hours long which is great if you do not want to invest in a large amount of time.
I see no problem of having children listen to this but their might be a need to have a bit of discussions with it. Life and attitudes in the late Eighteen and early nineteen hundreds will most likely feel strange to them but it’s a good thing to learn about that.
