I know I'm gonna love a cookbook when a chapter is titled "aww, sheet" as I can't resist a play on words. But a cookbook needs to be more than amusing and this book definitely is!

This cookbook is full of fresh healthy food, very nearly paleo with a reliance on coconut aminos and almond flour. If you follow a paleo diet, or aspire to, this is a great cookbook full of many non traditional recipes full of flavor. Nearly every recipe (maybe all of them) have photos.

Thank you Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Real Food Every Day is a very approachable cookbook that allows for a variety of food systems and prioritizes making (and eating!) fresh and satisfying food. I really liked how she leans into the "food freedom" concept and acknowledges that what everyone wants and needs from "healthy" food is different.

"You can still enjoy your favorite foods while living a very healthy lifestyle. In fact, I venture to say, an even healthier lifestyle, because you can release the mental traps that come with the extremes. There's a wide array of "healthy" that falls between a strict one-thousand-calorie-a-day diet designed to maintain a certain size and continually consuming processed fast foods and shotgunnings sugar-laden sodas. This book represents 'that' healthy. They healthy that still loves to have pizza every now and again but is mindful of how it affects your body." (from the introduction)

I just really appreciated this approach and it results in a book of recipes that includes sweet, savory, healthy, AND cravable recipes. I also really appreciated her section of simple recipes that basically just use what's in your pantry and a handful of fresh foods, and the instant pot section. These are so great for weekday nights and easy meals that still allow me to fuel my body with the things that make me feel good. But there's also adventurous and more complicated. Overall it was such a nice mix, I've liked everything I've tried to make from the cookbook, and am looking forward to working some of these recipes into the regular rotation here.

I wasn't familiar with this blogger before receiving this cookbook to review but I am always looking for great new cookbooks that focus on whole foods. Before getting into the recipes, the author gives some handy tips and tricks. The recipes are heavy on animal products so if you're vegetarian or vegan, this is not the cookbook for you. There is a table at the end showing which recipes are vegan, vegetarian, paleo, gluten-free, etc which is handy and not something I've seen in a lot of cookbooks. As a vegan, I was hoping for more suitable recipes for me, but there just weren't many I'd want to try.

Thank you to Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.

A new year calls for new goals and new direction. One such goal on most people’s list is eating healthier foods and meals. The Whole Smiths Easy Recipes for Weeknight Cooking by food blogger, Michelle Smith, gives you many recipe options which focus on whole-food meals with the use of minimally processed and nutrient dense foods. I like that each recipe will state whether it’s dairy free, gluten free, grain free, nut free, paleo or vegetarian. This is helpful when looking for recipes that meet any special dietary needs.

Some recipes that I’m looking forward to trying are from The Sheet Pan section such as: Sriracha Salmon & Broccoli and Sheet Pan Eggplant Parmesan. And don’t these 30 Minutes or less recipes sound good: Drive-Through Burger Bowls and Italian-Sub Skewers.

I want to thank #NetGalley, the publisher and #TheWholeSmithsRealFoodEveryday for a free digital ARC for review purposes. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Devouring food and creating new dishes while in lockdown has been a pastime for a lot of us but it gets boring quickly when you’re making the same old things over and over again. Not only can find some new recipes with this cookbook, but you’ll be sure to get inspired by some new meals that aren’t hard to make and recreate.

Michelle Smith’s cookbooks are such a help to me and my family! With a number of food sensitivities, her recipes give help and inspiration for accommodating these otherwise frustrating restrictions. This is another great one!

I bookmarked a number of recipes to try in this cookbook. When I saw the table of contents I wasn't sure how I would like the organization of the recipes but once I started reading it made sense and was very easy to follow. Great pictures. Easy and well-organized directions. I appreciate NetGalley giving me the opportunity to review this cookbook.

Want to eat healthy but short on time? This cookbooks is a must have. Loaded with delicious recipes with short ingredient lists and even shorter prep/cook times. You'll find make ahead meals, meals that allow you to make other meals from the leftovers, instant pot meals and much more. I especially loved the grab and go breakfast recipes as getting my kids to eat a healthy breakfast before school has been a challenge.

Thank you to Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and NetGalley for allowing me to read a pre-release of this cookbook. My review is voluntary and all opinions are my own.

Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book. Some great recipe ideas and wonderail tips. Easy to follow instructions, lots of nice pictures. Again, big drawback is lack of nutritional information. Nice to know it is gluten free, dairy free etc but fats and sugar counts would be nice to know. Firecracker cauliflower was a hit. Everyone loved the dun-dried tomato snd goat cheese frittata. The Italian dub skewers were good and fun to make. A very nice change of pace for lunch. 3.5 stars, rounded down because of lack of nutritional information.

I loved this cookbook! This cookbook contains a variety of recipes that are healthy and family friendly. I will definitely refer to this for ideas when meal prepping and for Whole30 options. I can tell a lot of these recipes are going to be favorites.

I really like the Whole Smiths. I have their other cookbook and use it regularly. This cookbook continues that tradition of excellence. I will absolutely be making Chai spice mix for friends and family as Christmas presents. The one minute mayo is perfection. The Sheet Pan Beef Jerky is now a staple in our house. My favorite chapter was 5 ingredients or less. It's worth buying this book for that chapter alone. I cannot say enough about the Chicken Mole instant pot recipe. I tell everyone about how good it is. Buy this cookbook.

I thought this was such a great cookbook. I love how she talked about how she got into cooking for her family and all the recipes she created for this book. I think the recipes looked amazing. A lot of them dairy and gluten free friendly. I even wrote down some of her recipes to try and see how they turned out.

The Whole Smiths Real Food Every Day offers lots of healthy options for the weeknight cook. I
particularly enjoyed the sections regarding meal prep and the recipes for smoothies, snacks, and salads now that my stay-at-home kitchen has become an all day grazing station. There are many gluten-free, dairy-free, and grain-free offerings as well. I would have liked more photos!

Thank you to Michelle Smith and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt for the ARC.

I was enticed by this "whole foods-based diet" cookbook, but greatly disappointed once I started reading. The recipes are very meat heavy and she does include dairy, both of which are not part of a whole-foods plant-based diet. The cookbook description did not mention that at all which I feel is very misleading. I will probably make the Firecracker Cauliflower but that's about it.
