Follow three women friends through ten years of friendship while their significant others are part of the Army. The book gives a glimpse of the seriousness of the spouses and children who remain at home during deployments of their loved ones. Although it is a fiction story, it seems the author was in touch with people experiencing this.
The three friends have a "SOS" code should they need one another. Upcoming surgery requires Adelaide to reach out to the others as she is currently "single" parent of her toddler daughter. Although the women are now living in different cities, they converge on Alexandria, VA to help her out. Readers soon learn, though, that there are unresolved issues between the friends. Sharing a house for a week or so forces things to the surface.

received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher through netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This book is well written and the characters are described well. I enjoyed how the characters where apart of the armed forces. This book is set between Georgia and Virginia mentioning Korea. The friendships in this book is great. The romance is slow and sweet. It is in stores for $16.00 (USD).

I have always LOVED books about books. From this title, I immediately knew I wanted to read this and while it wasn't focused as much on novels as I thought it would be, I really enjoyed reading In a Book Club Far Away. It had a surprising depth that I wasn't expecting. Tif Marcelo is definitely an author to watch!

In A Book Club Far Away is a wonderful womens fiction novel by Tif Marcelo.
I LOVE the characters and the setting and the story.

There were parts of this book I liked and I found the writing compelling enough to keep reading. But the more I thought about it, the more issues I had with it. I wish there had been more about what it was like to be a military wife or even in the military, like Regina. The book club aspect was just glossed over and the dispute between the women really, REALLY bugged me. I mean, there was absolutely no reason to get so angry: it was basically a shoot the messenger type deal. This book was just meh.

Three things made me grab this book: 1) I have read and loved all of Tif Marcelo's books to date. 2) I love books that celebrate books. 3) Remember that old show Army Wives? Big fan here.

Based on the synopsis, this book seemed like a great fit for my interests, and it was. With this book, we are introduced to Adelaide, Regina and Sophie - three military spouses who are bonded together when their significant others are deployed. While they are estranged, it takes one text from Adi and an emergency to bring them back together where they'll face their new and old challenges together.

Many thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for sharing this book with me. All thoughts were my own.

This is a women's fiction. This book follow a group of women that started a book club while their husband's/boyfriend's where in the Military. The three women reunite when one of them needs surgery and need the other two to help her recover. Well, They are together they flashback to the event that pulled them apart years ago. I really was pulled into this story, and I really loved the storyline of this book. I have to say that the storyline is in the drivers set in this book, but the characters are really developed. I found myself slowly falling in loved with the characters of this book. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Gallery Books) or author (Tif Marcelo) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.

I have seen mixed reviews for this book. I have to say I enjoyed it. I loved the connection the three women had through the years, even though they hadn't seen each other in ten years due to a feud. The book club moments, SOS calls, and friendship was still there. The ten year feud was a little cliche but it helped draw the story together in the end.

Adelaide, Regina and Sophie used to be best friends, and were constant companions through their partner’s deployments, illnesses, pregnancies and more. Until Regina’s relationship blew up spectacularly and the group split. Both women still spoke to Adelaide if not to one another – so when an SOS came from Adi that she needed them (without telling them that she’d invited the other) they both appeared ready to help. Neither was willing to discuss the past – and while both were furious with Adi for her interference and trying to “fix” them, they also knew that Adi needed them desperately with her husband on deployment and a toddler at home – so they stuck around. Mostly to deal with Adi and her needs.

But everyone here has secrets: Sophie is a nurse and now with her partner retired from the military – she's wanting more. Leaving her twins with Jasper and running off to help Adi was just what she needed: time away to think and decide on her own next move. Regina, now divorced with a 7-year-old son also has a catering company that has been struggling. She’s got to decide – it's been three years and still her business hasn’t taken off like she’d hoped. She’s also now (while at Adi’s) a stone’s throw from her on-line flirtation: Henry Just of Just Cakes, and while she’s debating about the ‘next step” she’s in meeting distance.

Meanwhile – Adi has been struggling with her gallbladder and being the perfect ‘officer’s wife” - a role she’s based on her mother’s seeming ease with all that entails, all while raising her children. But Adi’s holding a guilty secret – one that is at the center of Sophie and Regina’s troubles.

What this story brought was plenty of drama, lots of growth and a TON of emotion that everyone can relate to: communications gone wrong, the struggles with loneliness and the constant imminent moves, the adjustment periods both with and without spouses, where to focus your energies and desires for careers when you know that you aren’t long for a place, the challenges are endless and show, as Adi’s mother said “they call us dependents because the military is dependent on us doing everything at home while they are away”. I’m paraphrasing, but this story highlights military spouses – male and female, and celebrates them, their friendships and their strength – all while allowing them to grow, change and find community within a group that understands, and can forgive and love even when the worst happens. Thanks to Tif Marcelo for creating such a lovely group of women to look up to, understand and want to be friends with even if they aren’t physically in our worlds.

I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

This book is excellent for people who have their partners away, especially for long periods of time. The book is about three women - Regina, Adelaide and Sophie who are all military wives and who bond over their husbands being deployed. They form a book club and their friendship turns into a sisterhood. 10 years later, Adelaide "tricks" Regina and Sophie into visiting her although the other two women haven't spoken in a decade. Although I really enjoyed the book, it was a bit slow for me and dragged a bit. I really enjoyed seeing the friendship blossom and grow, and then when the women re-connected their friendship. I enjoyed the side relationships of the women and their significant others. I liked the writing and how the book ended (no surprises there) and definitely recommend it for anyone who needs a relatively easy read. Also, no idea where the "far away" came from from the title..

This was such a heartwarming story about three military spouses that become close friends and the difficulties they've faced over the years. Each of our main characters are facing their own hardships when Adelaide calls them back together after 10 years apart. I found each of the characters interesting, although I think I may like Regina just a tiny bit more. The spouses of the girls seemed a bit off putting, especially Sophie's boyfriend of 20 years Jasper. For some reason he just rubbed me the wrong way. Overall I found this to be a charming book about friendship and loved the look into the lives of military spouses. This is a great summer read.

I really enjoy Tif Marcelo's writing. She writes excellent filipino characters and family situations. In a Book Club Far Away wasn't my favorite of her books, but I still highly recommend it for people who enjoy women's fiction stories with own voices characters. 3.5 stars (4 for Netgalley)

Really didn’t love this one. It had all the makings of the perfect story for me but fell really, really flat.

I absolutely adored this book! Adelaide, Sophie and Regina share such an impermeable friendship that despite all that life throws at them, they are able to put their differences aside and focus on the greater good.

The twist at the end caught me off guard and reminded me that things are not always what they appear to be.

This was my first venture into the lives of US military spouses and I must say that it left me wanting more.

Thank you #netgalley for the advanced copy of this book and the opportunity to experience Women's Fiction at it's finest.

In a Book Club Faraway is Tif Marcelo’s newest release and the first I’ve read by this author. As soon as I saw the title with the words “Book Club” popping out at me, I knew I had to read it. This book was about enduring friendships and hardships that military spouses face. Marcelo, a veteran army nurse, herself, definitely brought her background to the pages. Although, I did like this story, I didn’t love it. The three main characters had a shared storyline with a shared problem plus, each of the 3 had their own storylines in both past and present going on through the novel. I felt this would have been better as a 2 part series instead of one long-ish read. It would have allowed us to get to know the characters and their backstories in better detail within each timeframe. Thank you to Netgalley and Gallery Books for gifting me this digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This latest contemporary novel from Tif Marcelo, features three friends: Regina, Sophie and Adelaide who find their way back to each other after a pretty bitter falling out between Regina and Sophie, when Adelaide devises a way to bring them back together.

in A Book Club Far Away features three main characters who met years ago in a military spouse book club. One timeline of the story follows their meeting and the development of their friendship while their spouses are deployed. Present day, Adelaide sends out an SOS as she prepared to go into surgery and needs someone to look after her two year old daughter.

The book alternate between the two timelines as well as the three different POVs and I have to admit that I enjoyed them all. There wasn’t one character or timeline I preferred over the other. The author did an amazing job of fleshing out each of the characters and endearing them to the reader. The stakes always felt high enough to keep me reading

Unsurprisingly another super fun aspect of the book was the book club that the three friends met through. The chosen books, heated discussions and adjacently related activities were super interesting. It seriously made me want to start my own book club.

As someone who military members within my family I found Tif’s dive into military Life, in this case as a spouse, particularly interesting. As a veteran herself, Tif shed light on those we don’t see often in literature- the spouse left behind. Tif did not shy away from the hardships of deployment and staying connect with one’s spouse while they’re away.

In A Book Club Far Away reminded me why I love reading contemporary fiction and that I should do it more often. Overall, I gave this one 5🌟 and would recommend it to anyone who loves books about friendship, book clubs, and military life.

I enjoyed this heart-warming story that highlights military families and book clubs. The author says, “First, the inspiration for this novel: military spouses and book club ladies…I met during the last two-plus decades who have given me the foundation of friendship in my adult life. My life is richer because of your insight, love, laughter, and acceptance. You taught me to make friends quickly, to speak up, to help without reservation, to share a new with each fresh chapter…”

This authors’ love of everything book club shines through this novel full of fun, friendship and gives readers a peek at some hard times military families go through. The message is clear, military life is not to be done alone, everyone is better when they do life together. It gave me a new appreciation and glimpse into living a military lifestyle. It is not easy, but it is doable with friends that understand.

I enjoyed how the author allowed readers to be included in a few book club meetings where they discussed their book club picks such as Hunger Games, Bossy Pants by Tina Fey, Breaking Dawn in the Twilight series, The Sky is Everywhere, etc.

Topics discussed in this novel are new beginnings, forgiveness, faithfulness, and struggles with being a parent as some have just started the journey and others facing the empty nest side of things. If you love book clubs, have an appreciation for the military and don’t mind a handful of “F” bombs along with mild cussing sprinkled throughout then you’ll love this book. I enjoyed how their relationships bloomed and grew through their book club experience.
