"The Lost Spells" is a charming book of poetry and art illustration written by Robert Macfarlane and illustrated by Jackie Morris.
The book contains a collection of poems called "fechizos" that celebrate the beauty and magic of wild creatures and plants. Each spell focuses on a different species, from the deer and deer to the beetle and oak.
Jackie Morris' illustrations are true works of art, and each captures the essence of the creature or plant in a magical and detailed way.
One of the strengths of the book is the way it connects poetry and art with nature. Macfarlane's poems are beautiful and evocative, and help revitalize our connection with the natural world.
"The Lost Spells" is a book that can be by the whole family, either by reading the poems aloud or simply admiring the illustrations.
In addition to being a beautiful work of art, "The Lost Spells" is also a reminder of the importance of protecting and respecting the natural world.

A really beautiful book, wonderful poems/spells with gorgeous illustrations - like a pocket version of The Lost Words.

The Lost Words was a dazzling creation - this follow up from creative duo Robert Macfarlane and Jackie Morris does not disappoint. There is just something so gorgeous about the work these two do together. Jackie's work is so emotive - it's honestly insane how she produces such gut wrenching emotion through the power of her medium. This is breathtakingly beautiful and I wish to own it in real life.

This is such a beautiful book. The illustrations are just delightful and the accompanying poems are wonderful. My favourite is ‘The Jackdaw’. There’s so much to enjoy. Thank you to Robert Macfarlane, Jackie Morris, Net Galley and Penguin Random House for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you so much to NetGalley and the publisher for the e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

What can I say about this stunning book? I devoured this in a single sitting and the stand out here is the illustrations which are truly beautiful!

I had hoped for more from the poems, but then I do find it difficult to connect with most poetry, so this could easily be a case of 'it's not you, it's me'. If you are a poetry lover then this may well be the book for you!

For me, the book is worth owning for the illustrations alone, and for their gentle connection to nature.

3.5 beautiful stars!

Absolutely beautiful, Robert MacFarlane's words and illustrations by Jackie Morris is the perfect combination. I hope they collaborate with more nature books. I think my favourite one was the woodpecker. I will be treasuring this for years.

What an utter joy this little book is! Much smaller than its companion volume, The Lost Words, it fits comfortably in the hand and offers a truly sensory experience for the eyes and ears. Read aloud, Robert MacFarlane's words roll and resonate against the backdrop of Jackie Morris's stunning artwork, together creating an immersive experience in the natural world. This is a book to have and to hold for life.

The Lost Spells by Robert Macfarlane and Jackie Morris⁣

You know they say there is magic in poetry. A good poet knows how to cast a spell on his readers. If I didn't already know that about Robert Macfarlane, I would have waxed eloquent. But I know he is a magician. So do many who have had a chance to read his previous works. As for Jackie Morris, let me just ask- 'Have you had a chance to look at the ethereal artwork in a copy of The Lost Words?' ⁣Its stunning!

Without much ado let's talk about the newest addition to our poetry booklist that has me itching for a physical copy. ⁣

The Lost Spells is a homage to the natural elements that hardly receive any attention or have songs written on them. Okay may be some do have songs written them but none so spell binding. Add to it the illustrations that are gorgeous. Again that would be an understatement. From the freezing ice sheets to deep forests to the untamed waters, everything looks otherworldly when seen through Jackie Morris's vision. If someone can make the descriptions of a barn owl, an oak tree and grey seals poetic, visually stunning and memorable at the same time, it would have to be this duo.⁣

All you poetry enthusiasts, go get your fix!⁣ We will be using this for our #poetryteatime

I was so excited to be approved for this ARC as I love the art and illustrations in 'The Lost Words.' I was not disappointed; this book is just as breathtakingly stunning as the last one! The illustrations and poetry work in perfect harmony, each supporting the tale that can be told. Look into the 'Selkie'boy's' eyes and weep at the emotion contained within that illustration. You will be carried away with the rhythm in 'thrift' and compelled to read out load as you linger over the page.

This book will appeal to all. It would be a beautiful coffee table book to browse and pick up when you have a few moments to explore. The words and illustrations could be used as inspiration in writing and art lessons. Don't miss your opportunity to wander through this fabulous book.

I'm a big fan of both Robert Macfarlane and Jackie Morris. Their previous collaboration for children, The Lost Words, is a book I have bought multiple times as a gift and this is a perfect companion volume I will undoubtedly be buying a lot of. I have to say that I prefer this to The Lost Words. I love the illustrated glossary/treasure hunt at the back of the book in particular. The poems and the illustrations complement each other perfectly and I very much enjoyed the choice of subjects. The silver birch and heartwood poems were both standouts for me, but I loved the whole thing.

The Lost Spells is a beautiful celebration of the natural world through art and poetry. Following the success of The Lost Words, this pocket-sized book will make a brilliant gift for adults and children alike. I love the identification guide in the back of the book, encouraging you to go out and find all the creatures that appear in the book, and found myself pouring over the pages at length.

An absolutely stunning book! Incredible illustrations, beautiful poetry, and a sense of connecting with nature envelop the reader in a warm, safe, cosy hug. The Lost Spells is an exquisite piece of work that took my breath away. I highly recommend, as is suggested, that you read the spells aloud. I've rarely found so much pleasure in poetic work - the woodpecker being my absolute favourite.

The ideal book for a gift, or to treat yourself. You won't be disappointed!

The Lost Spells is the follow up book to The Lost Words which we own at home. The Lost Spells is a beautiful book of poetry about elements of nature and the natural world for children. The illustrations are stunning and almost magical; creating a world for children to escape into alongside the lyrical poetry about foxes and silver birch trees. This would be a joy to own.

Stunning.

If you've read The Lost Words then you should know what to expect from this follow-up collaboration from Robert Macfarlane & Jackie Morris. If you haven't read the The Lost Words - what are you doing? Go read it now then read this as well.
Stunningly beautiful illustrations from Jackie Morris wonderfully weave the images of Robert Macfarlane's sublime spell-songs/poems.
These are nature poems, but what I like is that some of the less popular animals & plants get the attention in this collection. My favourites on first reading are for gorse & woodpecker - but this is a book to dip in and out of, returning to again & again.
Like The Lost Words, The Lost Spells will be enjoyed by all ages and it's beauty makes it a perfect coffee table book that can be picked up and loved by all the family.
Highly recommend.
