I loved the characters and the storyline development of this book. It was absolutely one of my favorites so far and I can't wait to delve in to the next one that this author writes. The storyline was simple, enjoyable, and entertaining.

This is book two in the Jericho and Wright Series. Dr. Leah Wright, head of the Crisis Intervention Center, recently lost her husband. She returns to her family home and with the police tape & blood stains removed, she and her daughter will never feel safe inside again.

Detective Luka Jericho reaches out to Leah on a case a husband is distraught after finding his wife dead in their apartment. His wife, Trudie, apparently fell to her death but was it a suicide attempt or pushed? The husband is suffering from dementia. There’s a lot going on here and with the rest of the story, many characters to keep up with.

I like the partnership of Leah and Luka, they work well together which makes me want to read book one too. They both have lost loved ones which connects them. This is action packed and a fast read. Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture, and author for a gifted copy. This is my honest review.

The Drowned Woman is a fantastic sequel to The Next Widow featuring the amazing Luka Jericho & Leah Wright. The book had all the thrills & chills I'd associate with a fast-paced thriller with great twists! The last book left me highly impressed with a need to discover more about the dynamic duo that feature in this book. This book hit that mark & then some. I love that the author makes every character in this book so believable yet complex. The intersection of the lives of a police detective & health professional makes for very interesting reading making it more than just a police procedural. While the plot was amazing & twisty, I love the general storyline this series is taking & we're only two books in! I'd definitely be keeping an eye out for the next Jericho & Wright series. I Loved this book and can't wait to see where the author takes them next!!

Thank you, NetGalley, Bookouture & C. J. Lyons for an arc!

Although I did not read the first book in the series, I was able to follow the action and characterization very well because the book is so well-plotted with characters that are both likable and sympathetic. Dr. Leah Wright is the new head of the Crisis Intervention Center in the small town of Cambria, Pennsylvania while Luka Jericho is a police detective who calls her for consultations. The latest call occurs when an elderly woman is found dead at the bottom of a staircase and murder is suspected. Unfortunately, the prime suspect is her husband Walt, a man with Huntington’s disease who is not able to take care of himself. Walt isn’t coherent enough to question so Leah interviews the neighbor, Risa Saliba, a former investigative journalist. The plot thickens when Leah discovers that some evil person who calls himself Chaos is sending threatening e-mails to Risa. This is an intense and scary, fast-paced detective novel that is filled with action, twists and backstories of the main characters. My favorite characters were minor ones, Nate and Emily, the children who belong with Luka and Leah. Both have suffered tremendous losses and are surviving the best way they can, by depending on each other. My heart hurt for little Emily who has lost her father and blames herself and for Nate who has lost his mother and is afraid of never having a real home again. The author did a perfect job of reeling me into the story and making it so I just couldn’t leave until I got to the end of this fascinating and suspenseful story. Fans of suspense will thoroughly enjoy this one! I know that I look forward to more from this author and more in this series.

Leah has a new job as a crisis management doctor.
So Luka calls her to come and settle the husband whose wife has fallen over the railing of her third story balcony.
Did she jump, was she pushed or did she just fall,
When interviewing people Leah interviews Risa Saliba a former investigative journalist who tells her that she is being stalked by a serial killer who sends her emails about getting away with murder for two decades also claiming responsibility to the drowning of Luka's fiancee seventeen years earlier.
Can they find the killer before they kill again
Thanks NetGalley

The Drowned Woman is the second in the series from C.J. Lyons. I would have written a review much earlier but decided to read the first in the series first. I am glad that I did as it explains a lot of history about the characters and the backgrounds of their lives. We meet the two main protagonists, Dr. Leah Wright and Detective Luka Jericho. Dr Wright has just lost her husband about a month ago and now works at a Crisis Intervention center and has teamed up with Luka in hopes of stopping someone who is killing people and has their sights set on one person. The story is told in third person with the characters very diverse and well developed. The main focus seems to be on the detectives past and a relationship that he had with a woman who supposedly committed suicide and drowned. Throw in a journalist and we have a great psychological thriller. While it was not hard to guess the ending, the story itself was a great read and the verbiage used to describe certain aspects made the reader feel as though they were witnessing everything in person. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and hope that there will be third in the series.

Thank you to netgalley as well as the author/publisher for allowing me to read this book in exchange for my honest review.

Title: THE DROWNED WOMAN
Author: CJ Lyons
PUBLICATION DAY: Nov 10th 2020

Description:

Her eyes fluttered open as the first splash of frigid water crashed through the open window beside her. She shook her head, startled to be awake—to be alive. She was in her car, in the river. She blinked, tried to focus. And then it came back to her. He’d tried to kill her…

One month since she lost her husband, Dr Leah Wright knows it’s time to return to her family home. Though the crime scene tape and blood stains are gone, she will never feel safe with her daughter there again. Receiving a call from Detective Luka Jericho to assist with a police investigation is a welcome distraction, until she sees the scene: a wife dead, another family ripped apart.

As Leah is the new head of the Crisis Intervention Center, Luka knows she can help him speak to the victim’s traumatized husband, who he suspects might have had something to do with his wife’s death. But when Leah interviews the woman who lives across the hall, they uncover evidence of a serial killer in their rural Pennsylvania town. The same person who claims responsibility for drowning Luka’s fiancée seventeen years ago…

With danger closer to home than ever before, Leah realises that to find the killer they may need to dig into Luka’s past. But the killer is already taunting Luka, promising to kill again. Is it already too late to save another innocent life?

Brilliantly suspenseful until the very last page, The Drowned Woman is perfect for fans of Karin Slaughter, Kendra Elliot and Tess Gerritsen. An addictive new thriller in the Jericho and Wright crime series from New York Times bestselling author CJ Lyons.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'The Drowned Woman' by C. J Lyons.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous

Publication date 10th November 2020

This is the first book that I have read by this author. It is the second book in the 'Jericho and Wright series' but can be read as a standalone.

I was originally drawn to this book by its eye catching cover and intriguing synopsis. The synopsis also stated that it is perfect for fans of Karin Slaughter, Kendra Elliott and Tess Gerritsen. I am a massive fan of all of these authors so it will be intriguing to see if the book lives up to that statement. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).

This novel consists of a prologue, 50 chapters and an epilogue. The chapters are short to medium in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This book is based in Pennsylvania, USA 🇺🇸 .

This book is written in third person perspective and the main protagonists are Detective Luka Jericho and Dr Leah Wright. The benefits of third person perspectives with several protagonists are that it let's you see the bigger picture of what's going on and you get to know more characters more, what they are thinking and what they are doing. It feels like you get to see the whole picture and not miss out in anything.

This book is very well written with vivid descriptions that suck you into the storyline whilst easily picturing your surroundings. The cover and blurb worked well with the storyline.

The storyline was fast paced and filled with action, mystery, drama, crime and deceit. There was lots of twists and turns and red herrings but unfortunately I found that I had worked the killer out quite quickly which is a shame. However, I still enjoyed reading the book until the end and getting the reasonings behind it all. It may be that I've just read way too many crime novels now so it's getting harder to surprise me as it wasn't obvious just more a feeling.

I loved the diverse range of characters and enjoyed getting to know them all except one. I could not stand Ms Driscoll but sadly a true representative of many teachers and bosses out there!! I am looking forward to reading more about Luka and Leah as they really worked well together and reminded me a bit of Tess Gerritsen's Rizzoli and Isle's who I loved!! It will be interesting to see what they get up to next.

Overall a fast paced crime thriller filled with suspense as well as medical fiction.

Genres covered in this novel include Mystery, Suspense, Thriller, Psychological Thriller, Hardboiled, Police Procedural, Crime Fiction, Medical Thriller and Medical Fiction amongst others.

I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as fans of Karin Slaughter, Tess Gerritsen and Kendra Elliott.

326 pages.

This book is £1.99 to purchase on kindle via Amazon which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!!

Rated 4 /5 (I enjoyed it ) on Goodreads, Instagram, Amazon UK and Amazon US and on over 30 Facebook pages plus my blog on Facebook.

I loved the first book and recommend it is read before this although not necessary! We pick up a month after Leah lost her husband and she is now working for the local police in a medical capacity! She is drawn into a potential serial killer story when attending another case. This has all the makings of a brilliant series! It ticks all the boxes with dishy partner Luka, a lovely daughter Emily - far too bright for her 6 years and a back story with her mum! I guessed who the killer was quite early - but then there weren’t many suspects in the pool to choose from! Can’t wait for book 3!

I highly recommend reading book 1 first as the case from that book is referred to a lot. It also explains the relationship between Jericho and Wright. I read them out of order but I do plan on going back to read the first book.

There’s a lot going on in this book, but the serial killer is kind of overshadowed by Jericho and Wrights personal lives and character growths. I also found that the hunt for the killer goes around in circles a fair bit but the pace did pick up towards the end. I did guess the killer which was a shame but the dramatic ending tied things up nicely. The kids, Emily and Nate were cute and I am definitely interested to see where everyone’s story goes next.

This second book in the series features Detective Sergeant Luka Jericho of the Cambria City Violent Crimes Unit and Dr. Leah Wright, formerly an ER physician, but now medical director of Good Samaritan Hospital's Crisis Intervention Center. They work together handling cases as necessary and, in this thriller, they are looking into a bad actor who identifies himself as Chaos.

Although the plot and the murders are complicated and involve a lot of characters, the premise is that someone is killing others in an attempt to get the attention of a former famous journalist, Risa Saliba. There is also a connection to Luka's past tragedy when his fiance supposedly committed suicide and drowned. In addition, the storyline about Leah's grief over her husband's death in book one continues.

Although not very suspenseful or thrilling, this is basically a detective novel. Unfortunately, I was able to guess the twists so there were no surprises here. I did find myself extremely annoyed by all the chapters devoted to the activities of Leah's 6-year-old daughter and all of that could have easily been left out of this book. I have no interest in reading a child's point of view in the novels I choose and definitely prefer action to long descriptions of internal angst. So, not sure I would continue with this series as I just can't get invested in either Jericho or Wright.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for this e-book ARC to read and review.

Detective Luka Jericho is called to an unexplained death and requires Dr Leah Wright to help calm a traumatised witness. She then speaks to another witness and is shocked to discover the woman had contacted her late husband about mysterious emails claiming to be from a killer...
Luka and Leah are both adapting to major life changes as a result of events in the previous book. Their families and personal lives feature heavily over the course of the book which allows the characters to seem more realistic. I really enjoyed the friendship and subplot of children Nate and Emily as they negotiate the changes to their lives too.
Trudy Orly is found dead after faling from a great height inside her apartment building. Her husband Walt and neighbour Risa, the main witnesses, both have significant medical needs which require the involvement of Leah in her new role attached to the police department.
The action and plot development are a little slow and a big twist which makes the case personal for Luka doesn't happen until half way though. I had several ideads about the killer and how the cases might link: I do enjoy a book that makes you think!
The Drowned Woman is an enjoyable police thriller with great lead characters and I look forward to seeing how their professional relationship develops.

The Drowned Woman is the second book in the Jericho and Wright series. The story begins with what seems like an accidental death. However, the investigation soon points to a serial killer who seems to have escaped suspicion for decades. Is the serial killer real or a pigment of an unreliable character’s imagination?

I like the Jericho and Wright team. Luka is haunted by his past and trying to make amends by being a better man in his present life. I enjoyed the role that he played taking care of his nephew, Nate. Wright’s new career is different and exciting. It still has the thrills of the ER but the new job now puts her in danger unlike before. I enjoyed reading about the support characters and love the fact that Emily and Nate narrated a few chapters.

This was another great addition to the series. I was able to correctly guess the identity of the unsub a bit too early but that did not dampen my enjoyment of the book. There were other little mysteries running along the main story including the ‘whys’ and ‘hows’ that kept me guessing up to the late page.

The Drowned Woman is well-written, tightly- plotted with well developed characters and an engaging mystery. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series already.

Suspenseful, atmospheric, well plotted, chilling, and memorable all combine to make this an easy to recommend read.

This is actually the second book in this series and although I didn’t read the first installment, that story is revealed and referenced so many times, that I don’t need to actually read it to enjoy this second novel. The drowned woman is the fiancé of Detective Luka Jericho and her supposed suicide has haunted, driven and framed him since it happened many years ago. Dr. Leah Wright is assigned to the police department and just a month ago lost her husband Ian, the story in the first book. There a lot to keep up with, several crimes, an ongoing possible murder they are investigating together, Leah’s daughter and Nate’s nephew being raised together following the previous tragedy and they have their own storylines, add in a possible serial murderer within their midst who might even have been involved in Lukas fiancé’s drowning. The story flows effortlessly, and you are really drawn into each of the scenarios and the characters are well written and you care about them. While it’s easy to guess the killer, this is a page turner and I couldn’t wait to see if I was right. I will certainly read the next in the series.

The story starts a month after the ending of “The Next Widow” with Dr. Leah Wright now working as the new head of the Crisis Intervention Center. On her first day she gets called to a possible hostage situation. The story is fast pacing and the twists kept me guessing. I like Leah and Luka and can’t wait to see where the next book is taking them. For better understanding I recommend reading the books in order.

I really enjoyed the first book in this series (The Next Widow), so I was excited for the next installment to see what was up next for Luka and Leah. I came to some very interesting conclusions after reading this story.
First, I found that I was more interested in the character arcs of Luka and Leah than I was about the plotline itself. That’s not to say that the plotline was bad in any way. But it didn’t hold my attention the same way the characters did.
That’s interesting to me, because usually the plot enhances the characters and vice versa. For whatever reason this time, though, I kind of found them to be…separate.
Which actually is a little weird, because both Luka and Leah have personal ties to the plot of this book. So, I really can’t figure that out.
But I digress.
The second thing I learned that it’s almost always important to give a book a chance, even when you feel like giving up. I thought the beginning this book was slow. It was very difficult for me to get into it.
Again, this was strange because it takes place just a month after the first book, and a lot in the characters’ lives (especially Leah’s) is new. She is trying to adjust, both in her personal (after the tragedy in book one) and professional (she has a new job – more on that in a moment).
The book also starts with a prologue involving the death of a woman who thinks of (calls to?) Luka as she drowns. What’s that about? (I’m not telling).
See, all looks really good, right?
But the beginning dragged for me. I will admit, I was a bit turned off by Leah’s job. It was reminiscent of the push to defund the police. The attitudes of a couple of characters rubbed me the wrong way.
The dialogue surrounding her initial encounter with Walt was especially off-putting to me. That’s a personal thing on my part, though…I’m sure others won’t be bothered by it at all.
I also was able to peg the bad guy pretty easily, which was a little disappointing. I kept hoping that I was wrong and there would be a twist, but there wasn’t.
I did think that the plot picked up speed in the latter half of the book, with the last third especially being rapid fire and much more interesting. In spite of my suspicions being confirmed, I did like how it all ultimately fitted together.
But back to my initial thought about the characters – it really is about where Leah and Luka go next. I’ll still follow and hope for another good case for them.

Action packed thriller with lots of twists and turns. The villain wasn't a big surprise but the plot was interesting and involving.

Book 2 in the Jericho and Wright series. As this book starts a month after the end of the first I'd highly recommend you read that one first.

I was quickly hooked on this book and I was gripped until the end. The plot was fast and took a few twists that kept me guessing.

I look forward to the next book to see how it goes without such a personal interest for the two main characters.

A month on from losing her husband in a violent murder, Dr Leah Wright is now heading the Crisis Intervention Centre specialising in helping victims of tramatic injuries and criminal cases. Leah is called in to help Detective Luka Jericho investigate the case of a senior citizen who has supposedly fallen to her death. Jericho is unsure whether or not the victim's husband is involved due to his violent outburst at the scene and whether he is faking his illness, but then the team are contacted by someone claiming to be a killer - one that says they know what really happened to Jericho's fiancee all those years ago.

This was definitely an improvement on the first book for me. The main characters are starting to work well together, with a real friendship developing. The plot was fairly simplistic, and the killer was obvious, but I still enjoyed reading this one. There were also some heartwarming moments between the two children, Emily and Nate, in dealing with the school bullies. I would definitely read the next one in the series.

Thanks to NetGalley & publishers, Bookouture, for the opportunity to read an ARC.

Jericho and Wright are back and working together now with Leah taking a new job as a cop consultant for sensitive cases. While it was nice to read about them again, I didn't like the plot very much this time. The culprit was obvious and the plot twists didn't really work for me. But overall, I am still cheering for the Jericho-Wright team and would love to read what they come up with next.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the arc.
