I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Another great book from one of my favorite authors. Highly recommend to friends and family.

Book #1 in Blood & Magic series is a fast paced, steamy at points, introduction to Hellbound High and it's many teen age characters who act like typical human teens but amped up as paranormals. It was a good first book, setting the characters and their back grounds up for the reader to follow in the next volume.

Overall this was not my favorite werewolf story, which really bums me out since I am such a huge werewolf fan. The book is set in high school with the two main characters being 17 years old, yet I would never call this a YA story. Instead this is very much an adult (or at least an NA) bully paranormal romance that is low on plot and high on angst and angry almost dominant/submissive sex scenes. Yeah... not what I was looking for when I picked this up.

The story is dual narrated, primarily by Isa and a few chapters here and there by Rafe. Isa has recently had her whole world turned inside out, her mother died and her boyfriend just cheated on her with her bestie and she has been sent out of pack territory to live with her unknown paranormal hating human father. Her goal in life is just to keep her head down, graduate from high school and turn 18 and go back to her pack. She is supposed to be a strong dominant wolf, but for the most part in the story she seemed more like a damaged wolf in need of protection, easily taking commands from all the men in her life and I did not like it one bit. I kept internally rooting for her to stand up against all the guys but it rarely occurred. She pretty much just finds a big strong wolf to take care of her and lives HEA- but still in high school.

I did not care for Rafe, he was very much a bully and not in a sweet on the inside tough on the outside kind of way. He is very much a Dom when it comes to sexual appetites and that carried to his regular personality as well. And he was kinda just mean, I could not get behind him as her romantic partner. Her new best friend was also male, and also a jerk who pretty much never stood up for her. And to add the cherry on top the cake, basically all the girls at her new school were the mean girl variety that just wanted to hate her for existing. I struggled with the characters and relationship dynamics and since the plot was very minimal the relationships were not really enough for me to get invested in so this was just a meh read.

I received a copy of of this book for a fair and honest review. Isa is a strong and multidimensional character. She has been through the loss of her mother and having to live with her human father. She is a wolf shifter who is now a lone wolf. She has to be the new girl at school and deal with the local pack's alpha's son. They don't know what to make of each other. I read so many books like this over the last year I was expecting one thing to happen and it kind of did but not in the way I expected it too. That made me happy that I decided to get this book.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Danielle Annett, and she does NOT disappoint in this latest book. If you dig her work, you're going to seriously enjoy this!

Interesting read from a new author.

This definitely skews a bit more YA than I'd like but the characters are engaging. Isabelle is a great protagonist and she really grows into herself as the story progresses.

All in all, an engaging one time read

Wow - what a wild and crazy ride this book took me on! I'm not sure what I expected, but I was definitely surprised.

Isa lost her mom, has been forcibly relocated to her "bio dad"s house, and now has to play at being normal in a high school that is anything but. Aside from her homelife drama (with her dad's assistant being a highlight), Isa is also subjected to paranormal high school drama when she unfortunately meets Rafe in the office. Rafe is the son of the alpha for a pack that Isa is not a member of, but that doesn't stop him from "messing" with her. I'm still a little on the fence about Rafe. He is definitely a sleazy jerk, but upon meeting Isa, his world shifts a bit.

This book takes a bit of a twisty way to a happy ending, giving us some truly terrible events that happen to Isa. As expected, Rafe handles it very poorly, Isa's dad doesn't really help either, and things definitely get worse before they get better. Overall, I couldn't put this book down, no matter how much I disliked Rafe. It told a very unique paranormal high school tale that I definitely haven't read before. There are more of these books, so assuming I can get over my Rafe hating, I'll dive back in to see what happens to the rest of the characters we met.

I had high hopes for the book based on the author but this was probably a bit too teen / YA for my tastes. Very high school mean girls but with vamps, werewolves and witches.
Rafe as a lead male character held no appeal for me and was too arrogant in an unattractive way not to mention his total lack of respect for anyone female.
Characters overall, with the exception of Isa were a little two dimensional and all just supporting cast. Is a was a likeable character and was a well thought out and written female who probably made the whole book enjoyable enough to get through.

Awesome read! I love this book and enjoyed not only the storyline but the characters as well. I didn't realize that it was a high school paranormal romance when I got it but I will have to say that it had passion and great steamy scenes and didn't come across as a juvenile read. Rafael is the son of the alpha and southwest leader of his pack. He sexy, charming and a bit of a ass who is used to women fighting over him and he is next in line to become alpha so he basically runs the school along with his best friends and when isabella's mom dies she is sent to live with her human father. Isabella is a strong and beautiful girl how just wants to graduate high school and return to her pack. The chemistry between rafael and Isabella is scroching but with mean bitches like witch sabrina who wants rafael to be her's and vampires who see her as being packless, she's a target. With a great pace and great writing and some great secondary characters like rafaels best friends desmond and Jordy two hot sex wolf's and Isabella 's best friend Josue a tattooed sexy shifter, theirs a whole lot of hot alpha male drool worthy book boyfriend's to go round. Can't wait for the next book in this series! Until next time luv's💕💋

This was not my cup of tea. I have read this author before and like her writing, bit this was too YA for me with the whole high school mean girls and the aloof boys. If you like that, mixed with shifters, you are all set. I also recommend her Blood and Magic-series (6 books) that is a bit more NA.

Wicked Wolves and Tangled Truths (Blood and Magic: Hellbound 1) by Danielle Annett
ARC provided by Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op
Genre: General Fiction (Adult) | Romance | Sci Fi & Fantasy
Release Date: October 5, 2020

Wicked Wolves and Tangled Truths is the first book in the Blood and Magic: Hellbound series by Danielle Annett. The second book, Savage Wolves and Dangerous Deal is expected to be released in April 2021. This was the first book I've read by the author and I really enjoyed it.

This book had a great story line and was fascinating. I thought the characters were great and the story had depth. There was definitely a lot more 'adult content' than I was expecting (not NSFW) and would say it is probably not appropriate for the younger young adults.

I enjoyed the premise of the different groups of supernatural beings coming together for this story.

I can't wait to read the next book in the series, as well as other books by the author. I really enjoyed her writing style.

I'm so grateful to Danielle Annett, the publisher, and NetGalley for providing me with a free copy of this ARC ebook in exchange for my honest review.

After the death of her mother, Isabella has no option but to leave her pack and live with her father. She is to start at the local school, Hellbound High soon after she moves in.

Isabella quickly catches the attention of the son of the local Alpha and finds herself in a confusing, hot/cold relationship with him.

As Isabella is not a member of a pack anymore, she is a lone wolf and therefore fair game. Even her relationship with the Alpha's son won't help her. In fact, it might just make it worse.

What I liked about this book

The book was well written and the pacing is really good. There wasn't a point where the story lulled and there was nothing happening.

There are a few fighting scenes throughout the book. These are written well and add an element of excitement and danger to the story.

Both Isabella and Raphael have chapters showing there points of view.

What I didn't like

Isabella and Raphael's relationship is slightly worrying. She is presented as a strong woman and in other aspects of the story, but not within the relationship. Isabella stands up to raphael for all of about 2 seconds before doing what he says. When I thought that it was improving it actually got worse.

There were so many questions left unanswered. I understand that this is the beginning of a series but I would have liked a bit more information on what was going on.

Despite the points above, I was drawn into this book and wanted to know what would happen next. That only increased my disappointment in the way the story was left.

I honestly can't figure out if this story because while it has a good message hidden in the story about bullying it gets lost in the story. The final scene or moment that is suppose to have readers excited for doesn't really happen. It was disappointing and lack any conviction for readers to believe in the female lead character.

Wicked Wolves and Tangled Truths is what kept this reader from reading more Paranormal Romantic suspense stories because it lacks a focus and a ending that will hook readers wanting more.

Thank you to the Netgalley for a copy of Wicked Wolves and Tangled Truths by Danielle Annett.

I actually really enjoyed this book, I loved the writing style and the dual POV and loved the characters that were introduced!

I do wish the ending was a little more conclusive and I was slightly disappointed with the main “altercation” as it wasn’t particularly significant or dramatic for a fantasy book

Otherwise very much enjoyed the romance aspect and will be reading this authors future works

Full written blog review to come soon.

So, I’m not sure where this is going but it’s not a bad start. It felt like complete romance arc, but I’m unsure about the future, with regards to what’s next for the pack and school. Is there going to be another book for her, or are we going to see the others pair off while at school? I only had one complaint- I think a trigger warning might have been needed, or at least a warning. There may be one in the final, but this one didn’t. I’ve read other work by this author, and that didn’t come into play to this extent before. Otherwise, this was a weird, sweet fun little but of high school for our wolf.

I loved the premise and greatly disliked the execution. It was grossly misogynistic and kind of disturbing - especially when reading Rafael's point of view. At no point would anyone find the Rafael attractive - and if at any point you believe his thoughts and actions are swoon-worthy - I would seriously ask you to take a mental health evaluation. I am actually really concerned that this is being put out there as literature. I can suspend reality to enjoy werewolves - however I don't want to read about a little stupid boys saying degrading things about women. As a women, I already see and hear this too often IRL. just gross.

I enjoyed this book, loved the romance element of it but also the struggles that Isa went through as it wasn’t the typical events that usually happen. It gives more insight into the difficulties that can happen. Definitely interested in reading more from this series in the future.

Once I starting reading this book I couldn't put it down. Isabella is a shifter who recently lost her mom and has to live with her human father. It's hard enough starting a new school, Hellbound High, but living with a stranger too? Pack is everything to shifters but Isa has to learn to survive as a lone wolf. Being the new girl at a high school full of vampires, shifters, fae, and humans is not what she signed up for but she'll have to survive till she turns 18. Rafael is the most powerful guy on campus and he doesn't know what to make of Isa. He's a wolf shifter too but the son of the local pack alpha. Will he protect her even though she's not PACK? Loved it.

WOW!!! This was by far top reads of 2020..... absolutely freakin fantastic. I didn’t have expectations but I was blown away. The characters, the detail, the settings, was absolutely addicting I could not put this down. There was so much going on but written so well there was no confusion or moments missed. There are a few tying up loose ends questions I have but in no way takes away from my absolute obsession with this book. I want more, like a couple hundred more pages....
