Ahhhh, Dani Atkins does it again. I honestly think that she is right up there among my favourite authors - I have adored every single one of her books; they are pure escapism and a joy to read.

That said, this book was probably my least favourite of hers; the only one I have never given 5 stars to. If I was to pick any holes, I would say it felt not quite as magical and a tad contrived. However, 4 stars still means it's a brilliant read!

An interesting read. Sad at times. A slow read for me. Covered a very difficult subject. Makes you realise you have to tell your loved ones what you want to happen when you die. You did feel for Alex and you know why he wanted to meet every one his wife had helped.

A normal week day morning and then your life alters. The one person who understands you and loves you despite your faults is killed in a tragic accident.
How do you move on and help your son cope and understand when you can't.
Agreeing to let her organs be donated, you feel a connection with the people who received her organs.
A beautiful tale, full of moments that will bring tears to your eyes.
Loved the book!!!!

Another fantastic book by one of my favourite authors. This is the third book I’ve read by Dani Atkins. I will always remember the first one – Our Song, this author certainly knows how to take your heart and wring it out and then when you think things can’t get any more sad, they do!

Whilst Our Song was just about the most heart wrenching book I’ve ever read, A Sky Full of Stars though poignant, didn’t cause quite so many tears. But don’t get me wrong, I still absolutely devoured the book. I read it in a week, which for me – one who is so easily distracted – is the sign of a very compelling read.

I loved all the characters in this story. There really wasn’t a bad bone between them. When Alex’s wife is involved in a train crash, sustaining injuries that cannot be repaired, Alex is faced with an unbearable decision. Yet it’s a decision his wife has already made and one which Alex must honour, despite it breaking his heart.

It’s impossible to write everything I felt about the book without giving away the crux of the story and I don’t want to do that. Suffice to say, that each character has their own story to tell including the four strangers who share a common theme but come from vastly differing backgrounds and ages.

The story covers grief. For Alex, not only does he have to try to come to terms with his own loss but must also try to help his 7 year old son Connor learn to cope with losing his mum. For a long time Connor believes that his mum will come back, it’s his way of coping with the loss which is heartbreaking for Alex.

There is obviously a lot of sadness in the book but there is also hope, kindness, family support – the relationship between Alex, his brother Todd and Todd’s wife Dee is a strong one, they are always there for Alex and Connor. It’s a story of friendship and bonding with the four strangers helping each other and being a life line at times for Alex.

Towards the end there was more than one ‘oh no’ moment as I read through the pages. Like I said I’ve read two of this authors books already, enough to know happy endings don’t come easily, so in parts the reader is on tenterhooks hoping and praying for a good outcome. Will there be a happy ending? Well, you’ll have to read it to find out.

I enjoyed this book just as much as the other two I’ve read, and really must try to keep my promise to myself to read the rest of Dani’s back catalogue of work.

When I feel the need to sink into a story with all of the feels and possibly a few tears, Dani Atkins has become one of my go-to authors of choice and A Sky Full of Stars did not disappoint.

This is not just Alex's story, it's also Molly's, one of the four people whose lives are changed because of Lisa's death.

Alex is really not coping with Lisa's death and in turn, their son talks about Lisa as though she is still alive and Alex doesn't know how to cope with this or make it better.

Molly's a primary school teacher and seems to be able to make things better, but should she, is any of this the right thing to do and where will it lead? A happy new life for Alex or more heartbreak. It's not what you think and it won't go exactly where you think it might.

It's a heartwarming story with a lot of sadness but also a lot of love and new beginnings for Alex, Molly and the other people whose lives have been changed for the better by Lisa. I really loved it and look forward to more to come from Dani Atkins..

Thanks to NetGalley and Head of Zeus for an ARC of this book in return for an honest review.

A really good read about love, loss, hope and new beginnings. When Lisa is killed in a train crash her donated organs help four people. These 4 people help Alex and Connor try to cope with losing a wife and mother. It is an emotional read but it is both happy and sad.

Thank you to Netgalley for my copy.

What a beautiful story, had me in absolute tears at points but so beautifully written. Heartfelt, emotional and so so beautiful!

This is the story of Alex whose wife dies very suddenly leaving him and his little boy devastated. Lisa, Alex’s wife has chosen to donate her organs and we also meet the four recipients of her organs although we focus quite heavily on Molly. This is a story of love, loss, grief and gratitude.

I really enjoyed reading about the character of Molly. Although, she was a major character in the book I was always a bit disappointed when we went back to read Alex’s point of view. This story did make me cry at points throughout it. I thought that the author got across beautifully those small moments of grief that take you by surprise. There were also times that the story lost me a little bit as I felt it was getting a little bit too fanciful. I cannot fully explain what I mean by that without ruining the story. From right at the start of the book I thought that I knew exactly where the story was going but I was proved wrong. On the whole i really enjoyed the book.

A beautiful, poignant story about Lisa, a mother and wife taken too early and the recipients of her organs. This was a difficult read for me because it was a little too close to home but at the same time I sought some comfort from it. The characters were simply gorgeous and the story was beautifully told. I would definitely recommend this book. Tha k you netgalley.

When Lisa married Alex, she gave his life meaning. She was a professional astronomer: a stargazer. And when she gazed at Alex, she saw that behind his tough exterior was a man she could love. Alex, Lisa and their young son Connor made a happy little universe. But then Lisa dies in a train crash, and their universe is destroyed. Alex is shattered by loss, and overwhelmed by the difficulties of being a single father to a six-year-old boy. How can he and Connor carry on without Lisa lighting up their lives? Then Alex meets four strangers. Two men and two women, who never met Lisa, but whose lives changed profoundly because she died. As Alex hears their stories, he begins to realise the world may not be as cruel and senseless as it seems. Perhaps, after all, the future is written in the stars.

Oh I do love getting stuck into a new read from Atkins, you just know you will experience every emotion known to man and this is no different. The plot description makes clear just how emotional this book is going to be and yet I find that I am never fully prepared. I was immediately engrossed in the read and invested in the characters which only heightened the impending agony I was soon to read. I had tears in my eyes most of the way through this and I would not have it any other way.

I think I have made clear how emotional this read is but I also want to stress how much hope and happiness is present as well. You really do go through every emotion reading this and it is breath-taking.

A real strength of this read are the characters, they are so realistic and so very likeable. Of course, this only makes it harder when they are going through pain and torment but it also means the highs are very high. I cannot single any character out, they are all beautifully written and crafted and they all came to hold a special place in my heart.

Having said how desperately sad this book is I also feel I need to add that it has a lot more hope and happiness in it than I was expecting and this was a very pleasant surprise. Atkins does not take the plot down the typical path you may expect and I loved that about this read. I do not want the expected plot all the time, it is nice to have a surprise. This plot is stunning and I adored the ending.

'A Sky Full of Stars' is another outstanding read from Atkins. Have your tissues ready as you cry tears of anguish and joy.

Thank you to NetGalley and Head of Zeus for an advance copy.

I’m a huge fan of Dani Atkins and I have to admit that when I started this book I was a bit disappointed - I had a feeling that it was just the same but different to her other books and was just going to be so predictable. However as I read on, I guess I became more attached to the characters and started to enjoy it. I’m pleased to say it wasn’t quite as predicable as I had thought it would be, but there were no great surprise moments like we had in Fractured. All in all a good nice read and I’m pleased to have had the opportunity to review it.

A Sky Full of Stars is the story of how the generosity of one person can completely change the lives of others.

A wonderful well written story of love, loss and friendship. Heartbreaking but at the same time such an uplifting read, I would certainly recommend this book.

I am a huge fan of Dani Atkins’ books and a Sky Full of Stars is an absolutely beautiful story! It is told from the perspectives of Alex, in the third person and Molly, in the first person. We meet Alex on the morning of an Astronomy Fair in which his wife Lisa is to give a speech at. However, as she says goodbye to Alex and their young son Connor little does Alex know this will be last time he ever gets to speak to the woman who made his universe complete. In some extremely heartbreaking scenes to read we learn that there has been a train crash and Lisa was one of the people on board. As Alex reaches the hospital it soon becomes clear that Lisa has suffered catastrophic injuries which she will never wake up from. Overwhelmed and devastated by loss, Alex finds himself required to make a difficult choice regarding a wish of Lisa’s that he was never aware of until this day. A decision which in turn, brings two men and two women into Alex’s life, one of whom is Molly, whose lives are changed profoundly because of Lisa’s death. As Alex hears their stories he begins to wonder if perhaps the world isn’t as cruel and senseless as it seems. What if the future is written in the stars all along?

I adored this story and its cast of wonderful characters. It is a moving and emotional read but with so many uplifting and heart warming moments too. I really enjoyed being able to see the story from Alex and Molly’s perspective as their journeys are both so different but connected by the same fateful day. The writing throughout is so beautiful and I was captivated by all of the characters’ emotions, not just Alex and Molly’s, and the experiences they end up sharing together. The twists and turns and the journey that all of the characters go on had me captivated and I loved being able to wonder as I was reading if certain events and connections would be formed. I found the final chapter to be really moving and a perfect way to end an incredible story; the final sentences made me smile so much!

A Sky Full of Stars is a truly special, moving and breathtaking read with a cast of characters that will stay with you long after you turn the last page. Thank you so much Dani Atkins for capturing my heart with this wonderful story!

A Sky Full of Stars explores what happens when someone is lost from our lives suddenly and irreplaceably, the bonds that are too immense to quantify and how love lives on.
Of course the subject matter is sad and a sensitive one, but I felt it was handled delicately and with a true realism to the journey of grief and what little things change or get overlooked. There were some moments I really saw how each family has these little roles and things they do that would change forever of someone died, it isn't always the obvious loss that hurts the longest, but these micro moments that resurface time and time again.
It also explores the gift of organ donation and the subsequent journeys for those recipients too as their lives also change forever.
There were a few characters I'd have liked to have learned a little but more about such as Jamie, and Kyra, and the romance that ignites wasn't given enough flesh to evolve to me but I did however enjoy the book and the plot is thought provoking and emotive.

Everytime i finish a Dani Atkins book I'm left with disappointment, not with the book but with the fact that it is going to be so bloody long till I get to read the next one! As always, fabulous, amazing, wonderful, nobody does it quite like this! ✨

Another great insightful read from Dani Atkins. Alex's wife Lisa is critically injured in a train crash on her way to an Astronomy Fair. He makes the decision to give her organs for transplant & this begins an unusual friendship with the organ recipients. Great idea for a book & she tells of the turmoil both donor families & organ recipients go through so well. Well worth a read.
