4 1/2 stars... The Brightest Night is the third book in The Origin Series. I was hopeful it was the last book, but alas there will be at least one more. It's not that I don't want more Luc and Evie. It's that I want them to finally get their HEA. This book continues to develop Luc and Evie's relationship. In addition, Evie learns more about her abilities and how to manage them. There is a great deal of additional world building and growth in this installment of the series. I feel like you don't necessarily make large strides in the plot. However, it is developed with more detail. I really enjoyed this one and can't wait for the next one in the series. I hope we get more answers to the lingering questions. Also, I listened to the audiobook and the narration was very well done. It was quite an enjoyable listen and made the experience even better. I recommend both the book and audio version. Thank you to NetGalley for this reader's/listening copy. I voluntarily chose to review it and the opinions contained within are my own. |
I love Luc so much! I am a huge fan of Jennifer L Armentrout and I can't wait to read every other book in her backlist I haven't read yet. |
Luc and Evie are absolute fire! The narrator's voice enhanced the book, which I already read previously. I never had an audio by JLA before, and I really liked it a lot. |
I enjoyed this edition to the series. We got to watch Evie/Nadia discover who she is. She learned more about her powers and her past. I was glad to have the characters from the Lux series in this one more. Overall, it was a good story about a lost girl trying to find herself and accepting who she is. With that we also got to dive a little deeper into Luc's story and abilities. I didn't see that ending coming and I can't wait for the next installation to see what will happen with everybody!! |
Not only did I love the narrator, but Jennifer Armentrout has gone and made me fall in love with yet another of her books! Each new release is better than the last and this was no different. We saw major character development, new sides to characters. Luc as always is a cinnamon roll that should be protected at all costs, Evie is learning how to control and use her abilities, and that ending has me BEGGING for the next one to release! |
The Brightest Night is the third book in Jennifer L. Armentrout's Origin series. We are following Evie and Luc again in this novel. Evie is on the run with her less-than-human protector, Luc. She isn't sure who she can trust and those around her aren't sure they can trust her. Evie and Luc are also navigating their relationship and trying to figure everything out while all while the world is crashing down around them. This book could be slow at times, but overall I really enjoyed this third installment in the series and look forward to the next book. There will certainly be a next book after that ending! |
Another amazing addition to the spin-off series. Once I started this I could not put it down. I was really worried how this one would end and was right for feeling this way. I can't wait to get my hands on the next installment. I need the next one NOW! |
Jennifer L. Armentrout makes some of the best YA books around. She fills them with depth. Creates a world that takes you on a journey on its own. She shows a world that many other can't see. She give us characters like Luc and Evie. I love JA series. The are great escapes into the mind. Saskia Maarleveld brought these characters to life. She allowed for them to flourish. |
Title: The Brightest Night (Origin #3) Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout Narrator: Saskia Maarleveld Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Ok so my babies can’t catch a break. Why?!?! Everything was going so well! So we still follow Evie as she comes into herself, starts to learn more about herself and we see some familiar characters from The Lux series. Saskia does a marvelous job portraying Evie and the rest of the characters she really brings the story to life. I honestly enjoy her voice. I can’t wait to get to the next book. I received this audiobook from @macmillan.audio via @netgalley in exchange for an honest review! #paranormalromance #aliens #origin #evieandluc #lux #jla #jenniferlarmentrout #youngadultfiction |
I am a fan of Jennifer L. Armentrout, but I must admit that I hadn't read any of her work in over a year. I was so excited to dive into the Origin series and reading the firs three books back-to-back was great! Jennifer's writing is so intriguing and always pulls me in with how fun her characters are. I'm a huge fantasy lover and not big on sci-fi, but Jennifer always makes me swoon over her books. The series start off with an older YA feel, but this book takes it up a notch and leans more NA for me. I thoroughly enjoyed the plot and the romance. The drama was everything. The romance gets steamier. All that we believe to be true gets turned on it's head. This will have you on edge of your seat and holding hard to your shirt. There were times I wanted to throw my book and times I wanted to simply caress it. If you love Jennifer's writing and how she creates such fantastic characters, romances and worlds then I would recommend this series for sure. The Brightest Night is such a fantastic follow-up in the series. Can't wait to dive back into her writing!! |
Even though I have not read the previous books in the series, I was able to enjoy this book to the fullest. I am definitely putting the previous books on my TBR list so that I can better grasp the whole picture of what is going on. I loved this audiobook and though the narrator was wonderful. Definitely recommend!Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for a copy of this book for an honest review. |
Unfortunately, I had to get a new phone when my old one broke and when I downloaded the Netgalley app again, I didn't have this audiobook who was already archived and I couldn't download it a second time to listen to it. I'm disappointed not to be able to read and review this ARC. |
This is part three of Evie and Luc's story. We move out of the school setting and finally link up with the Luxen, Hybrids, and Arum from the other books. I was so happy to see Kat, Daemon, Dee, and the others again, especially now that some of them have adorable babies. I also liked seeing Evie learn about her powers and what happened to her when she was with Daedalus. There's a little bit of action in this where we see Evie and Luc fighting Trojans and Daedalus or where Evie gets activated and Luc has to stop her, but most of this book was talking. Evie and Luc figure out their relationship a bit more as she remembers some things about their past which was good, but I thought too much of this was feelings and arguing and didn't need to be 500 pages. Of course, even though the first half of this was slow, it really picks up in the second half and the ending is a big cliffhanger. Why do you torture us this way?? Now I have to (im)patiently wait for the fourth book. I received a copy of this audiobook from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review |

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this audiobook. This audiobook is great. The author and narrator did fantastic. Jennifer L. Armentrout did a great job writing this book and describing the characters. The pacing of this story is great. The narrator did a great job reading this book. The friendships in this book is well written. The romance in this book is steamy and oh so good. This audiobook is in stores now for CA $44.75 (CAD). |
I have received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review I feel like this series is just destroying me bit by bit. Sadly my rating for the previous two books is a bit higher than this one. In it, you will still be seeing Evie and Luc. As well as everyone else too which should get you pretty happy because I know I was. Besides that, this book had some action but I was a bit disappointed by it all. I wanted more of everything I think. Going through all the sexual tension scenes and the people threating other people's lives.. oh and April - I just wanted more. I honestly wasn't expecting the cliffhanger at the end. I thought the book was going to end at this one but I guess I will have to wait and see what the fourth book will bring me. Please less figuring out their relationship because after 3 books you'd think Evie and Luc would've figured it all out already. |
Oh my god I love this series!!! I have read almost everyone of her books and I haven’t been let down yet!!! One of my favorite authors ever! |

I could not put The Brightest Night down! It was such a thrilling ride, with plenty of twists and turns. I also thought this would be the final book, but I figured out with about 50 pages left that I had to be wrong as we hadn't really hit the climax yet. I'm kind of glad that I didn't know that going in though, made for a better read. The big twist made total sense and I can't wait to see where Armentrout takes us with it. Evie and Luc are super cute together, as expected. Their relationship further develops, and I'm here for it. I also appreciated that there were lots of important talks between them. Re: sex, protecting each other from danger, being a team, etc. We're also surrounded by characters from the past and I loved seeing their stories all intertwine as they work to bring down Daedalus. |
I got the audiobook of this from NetGalley, so I decided to read that way even though I pre-ordered the hardcover. It's my first ever JLA audiobook. I wasn't a huge fan of the narrator. It wasn't horrible, but not my favorite. I think part of my issue was that her voice didn't adapt to higher speeds well so anything over 1.5 was hard to listen too, but 1.5 is too slow for my brain. Let's get to the actual story part of the book. I didn't realize I forgot so much from the last one, but I quickly got caught up. Evie grows a lot here which I liked. She also had to face difficult moral decisions which I appreciate. This world is becoming more life or death, so that was appropriately realistic. Luc is still arrogant and over-the-top. I appreciate him as a character, but he does get on my nerves sometimes (sorry Luc lovers). The romance continued to progress and I liked where that part of the plot went. I'm curious to see what happens next. The larger plot was ok. I'm just not sure how much actually happened. And it didn't completely hold my attention. I would get distracted and have to rewind my audio. This will probably end up be a bunch of set up for the next/final book. |

The Brightest Night by Jennifer L. Armentrout Narrated by Saskia Maarleveld Publisher: Macmillan Audio Genre: Teens & YA Release Date: October 20, 2020 The Brightest Night is the third book in the Origin series by Jennifer L. Armentrout. I am a huge fan of Jennifer L. Armentrout's other series, so I was really looking forward to listening to this audiobook.
