Even though I have not read the previous books in the series, I was able to enjoy this book to the fullest. I am definitely putting the previous books on my TBR list so that I can better grasp the whole picture of what is going on. I loved this audiobook and though the narrator was wonderful. Definitely recommend!Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for a copy of this book for an honest review.

Unfortunately, I had to get a new phone when my old one broke and when I downloaded the Netgalley app again, I didn't have this audiobook who was already archived and I couldn't download it a second time to listen to it. I'm disappointed not to be able to read and review this ARC.

This is part three of Evie and Luc's story. We move out of the school setting and finally link up with the Luxen, Hybrids, and Arum from the other books. I was so happy to see Kat, Daemon, Dee, and the others again, especially now that some of them have adorable babies. I also liked seeing Evie learn about her powers and what happened to her when she was with Daedalus.

There's a little bit of action in this where we see Evie and Luc fighting Trojans and Daedalus or where Evie gets activated and Luc has to stop her, but most of this book was talking. Evie and Luc figure out their relationship a bit more as she remembers some things about their past which was good, but I thought too much of this was feelings and arguing and didn't need to be 500 pages.

Of course, even though the first half of this was slow, it really picks up in the second half and the ending is a big cliffhanger. Why do you torture us this way?? Now I have to (im)patiently wait for the fourth book.

I received a copy of this audiobook from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this audiobook. This audiobook is great. The author and narrator did fantastic. Jennifer L. Armentrout did a great job writing this book and describing the characters. The pacing of this story is great. The narrator did a great job reading this book. The friendships in this book is well written. The romance in this book is steamy and oh so good. This audiobook is in stores now for CA $44.75 (CAD).

I feel like this series is just destroying me bit by bit. Sadly my rating for the previous two books is a bit higher than this one. In it, you will still be seeing Evie and Luc. As well as everyone else too which should get you pretty happy because I know I was.

Besides that, this book had some action but I was a bit disappointed by it all. I wanted more of everything I think. Going through all the sexual tension scenes and the people threating other people's lives.. oh and April - I just wanted more.

I honestly wasn't expecting the cliffhanger at the end. I thought the book was going to end at this one but I guess I will have to wait and see what the fourth book will bring me. Please less figuring out their relationship because after 3 books you'd think Evie and Luc would've figured it all out already.

Oh my god I love this series!!! I have read almost everyone of her books and I haven’t been let down yet!!! One of my favorite authors ever!

I could not put The Brightest Night down! It was such a thrilling ride, with plenty of twists and turns. I also thought this would be the final book, but I figured out with about 50 pages left that I had to be wrong as we hadn't really hit the climax yet. I'm kind of glad that I didn't know that going in though, made for a better read. The big twist made total sense and I can't wait to see where Armentrout takes us with it.

Evie and Luc are super cute together, as expected. Their relationship further develops, and I'm here for it. I also appreciated that there were lots of important talks between them. Re: sex, protecting each other from danger, being a team, etc.

We're also surrounded by characters from the past and I loved seeing their stories all intertwine as they work to bring down Daedalus.

I got the audiobook of this from NetGalley, so I decided to read that way even though I pre-ordered the hardcover. It's my first ever JLA audiobook. I wasn't a huge fan of the narrator. It wasn't horrible, but not my favorite. I think part of my issue was that her voice didn't adapt to higher speeds well so anything over 1.5 was hard to listen too, but 1.5 is too slow for my brain.

Let's get to the actual story part of the book. I didn't realize I forgot so much from the last one, but I quickly got caught up.

Evie grows a lot here which I liked. She also had to face difficult moral decisions which I appreciate. This world is becoming more life or death, so that was appropriately realistic. Luc is still arrogant and over-the-top. I appreciate him as a character, but he does get on my nerves sometimes (sorry Luc lovers).

The romance continued to progress and I liked where that part of the plot went. I'm curious to see what happens next.

The larger plot was ok. I'm just not sure how much actually happened. And it didn't completely hold my attention. I would get distracted and have to rewind my audio. This will probably end up be a bunch of set up for the next/final book.

The Brightest Night by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Narrated by Saskia Maarleveld
Publisher: Macmillan Audio
Genre: Teens & YA
Release Date: October 20, 2020

The Brightest Night is the third book in the Origin series by Jennifer L. Armentrout. I am a huge fan of Jennifer L. Armentrout's other series, so I was really looking forward to listening to this audiobook.

I really wish I had read or listened to the previous books in the series before listening to this book. Jennifer L. Armentrout has created such a detailed world with so many intricate, important details, and I felt like I was always trying to figure out what was going on.

The narration by Saskia Maarleveld was incredible! She captured the unique personality of each character and brought them to life!

This book was intense with so much happening! It was very fast paced and there was a lot to the book!

I would definitely recommend reading the previous books first, but you can catch up with this one.

Overall, this was a great book and I look forward to diving into the series!

I'm so grateful to Jennifer L. Armentrout, Macmillan Audio, and NetGalley for providing me with a free copy of this ARC audiobook in exchange for my honest review.

Jennifer L. Armentrout Is always wonderful. She is one of my go to authors. And the audiobook was amazing. This is a great addition to the series however now I have to wait until next year for the next book in the series.

I have followed each series through this world Jennifer has created for years and it never disappoints. I absolutely love Luc and the mystery of who he is, so I was thrilled to dive into this series. One of the best parts, for me, in this author’s writing is that I can’t really foresee what will happen next and I just love that!
Luc and Evie are a very interesting couple with a complex past. They are also very deeply connected to one another. The challenges and situations they must overcome are nothing small, and at the close of this book you’re left wondering how they will ever be able to conquer the next chapter in their lives.
I am reviewing the audible version of this tale, and felt the narrator did a fantastic job showcasing each individual characters personality and voice. I would recommend this book as well as the audible version!

Love love love this series. And this was no different. The story was excellent and the voicing was wonderful. Would definitely buy them all.

First two books were good, but this one felt more like a filler. Don’t get me wrong, Book 3 has story, but thats only about 30% or so.. the rest of the book are oohs and ahhs of Luc and Evie. I love them, but one can only digest so much 😐

Narration was perfect, it was easier to get through this book because of narration!! Origin series should’ve been a duology. All the books I own in this series are in eformat, glad that I don’t own a physical copy since changing the cover format for the last book definitely will upset the fandom!

Thank you Macmillan Audio, Netgalley for the audio copy in exchange for an honest review

I'll start this off by saying that, in case it is not obvious, you need to read the first two books in this series. This is NOT a standalone and it ends in one hell of a cliffhanger. This series is not over yet so don't go into this one thinking it's going to be all wrapped up.

On to the review...

I started off liking this book. I was excited to see what exactly was going on with Evie and what was going to happen to her in the future. Then probably about half way through, I lost a little interest. It was just constant guessing with very little answers and then them practicing using the source. Some banter for Luc, some appearances from Daemon, Kat, and co. which I do love, but that was all that was happening. I was thinking "okay, so this is going to be the usual middle-ish book that kind of sets us up for the finale." Those are always my least favorite books in the series. And honestly that was true for most of this book.

But then.

BUT. THEN.

The last two chapters happened. And O...M...G... yea. That was intense. I got goosebumps reading it. I was like I KNEW IT. I KNEW IT. I KNEW IT. and even though I knew it, I didn't trust that I knew it, if that makes sense. I have zero words for what happened, so all I can say is that if it starts feeling a sluggish to you and you're thinking of giving up, KEEP ON TRUCKING. The ending is worth it.

Since I listened to this, I will also go ahead and review the narrator. I didn't love Saskia Maarleveld. It's not that I hated her as a narrator, but I just didn't think she fit Evie and Luc very well. She kind of made both of them sound much older than they are. And she kept pronouncing Daedalus as Dead-uh-lis and it was driving me crazy. For some reason, mispronunciations seem to be a common theme in Jennifer Armentrout's audiobooks.

Overall, I cannot WAIT for book 4. I THINK it's the last one in the series and if so, it's going to be insane.

Unfortunately, the Netgalley app would not let me download this audio book so I am not able to give my feedback :(

I felt transported back into the world. The narrator did such a great job. I read the first two books and so switching to audio for this book I was nervous. However, the narrator did such a great nailing the attitude of Jennifer L Armentrout's writing. It always has a lot of snark and sass.

I thought this spin-off series was going to be trilogy and was smacked in the face by the ending of this one. I was like there has to be more. I really love this series and this book did not disappoint and I am so happy there is more to come.

Luc, I love Luc! This book was fantastic! We continue with the Origin series, this time we get more answers about Evie, Luc, and more about our other beloved Lux series characters. There is no way for me to hide how much I love JLA books, this one is no exception, I love every page of it, every word I heard on the audiobook, yes, I also got the audiobook which is brilliant, the narrator Saskia Maarleveld is one of my top favorites for PNR narrations. The sound mix and edition was fantastic. Each emotion and character voice was perfectly portrayed. The story is amazing, I can't wait for the next book, it's going to be another long wait but totally worth it and overall you won't feel it that far away with all the other books JLA has in store for us. I will forever one-click on her books and so I am totally biased saying you need to experience this story.

WOW. Just, wow.

Every single Lux/Origin book by Armentrout is amazing and addictive. They cannot be put down, and the endings of the ~middle~ books are soul-killers. This was no exception and I CANNOT believe I need to wait to find out what happens next.

Luc is a fantastic character and Armentrout's YA banter dialogue is truly unmatched.

I LOVED this narrator. So much so that I plan to get the final book on audible instead of kindle.

this is NOT a review of the audiobook. for whatever reason, i could not get this title to download on the netgalley shelf app (yes, my app/ios software are up to date). i tried several times with both wifi and LTE, but it would only download to around 10%... this title is being archived tomorrow, so i will not be able to listen to it.

i suppose it doesn't much matter, because i already know i will be 5-starring this book. i 5-star every JLA lux book because they're all fantastic. i also LOVE saskia maarleveld as a narrator. so, even though i didn't hear this one, she automatically gets 5 stars too.

Lots of people rav about Jennifer L Armentrout's books. I received this one in audio format. It is the 3rd in the Origin series. As such (and again, why don't I check these things), I had a hard time getting into it because I didn't read the first two. Other than that, the characters were quite good, even though i was super confused about everything happening and the motives.
