This is her third book and I like it as much as the first two. The writer needs bugging up as she’s brilliant! This is another book that takes you one way and then goes another. It’ll keep you guessing and I guarantee you won’t see the end coming. 5/5. |
“Sorry” that the cryptic message Esther gets from her husband Robin… Let me start by saying that I did not like either Robin or Esther. They are both selfish and only cared about themselves. The book has the h and H point of views but I was unable to get absorbed in this story, I kept reading waiting for the big twist which was very predictable. * I was provided a review copy of this book by NetGallery in exchange for my honest opinion* |

Firstly a big thank you to the publishers for my copy to review . Ive been very lucky to be able to review all 3 of Charlotte’s books and if you haven’t discovered her yet….theres my tip for the day! This is insanely good. The day after reading im still thinking of it and the characters. What is a good father? Or indeed a perfect father? This is a area amongst others that are explored . Their are revelations galore from page 1 and its a rollercoaster of a book. Heart racing and an exciting compelling read. Unpredictable and thrilling, this will definitely keep you on your toes . I loved every chapter! I wish Charlotte every success with this release Published 1st December |
Robin is driving with his daughter, Riley, in his car. He leaves a message for Esther, his wife, "Sorry". Yet, is Robin REALLY sorry? Riley is 2 years old. When Esther finds that both Robin and Riley are gone she scrambles to find them. (Particularly Riley). A riveting, high-drama suspense story that the reader will not be able to put down! HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Many Thanks to Quercus Books and NetGalley for a superior suspense read! |
Another great thriller from this author. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading all of her books. There are some dispicable characters in the story. Which I love x |

Great read by a new author for me. The plot is well written and enticing to the reader. The author writes in a way that makes the reader feel like part of The story. |
This was definitely a slow burner which I struggled to stick with. It didn’t grip me from the start but I kept wiry it. The characters were not interesting and I could not relate to them well. It did get a bit better later on but I’m concerned that readers will give up earlier on. |

Well this was an interesting read. I have never read anything from this author before and I will now as I am intrigued. To be fair I did not gravitate towards Robin but I did understand the plot line and it did seem plausible. I did not expect the twist in the middle and that threw me. Very well played. This book is told by different perspectives, Robin (who was just plain despicable) and Esther but also in different time periods so had to concentrate on the book. It is a definite good read especially on a winter's day. A complimentary copy was provided by Quercus Books via Netgalley in exchange for an honest and fair review. |
This book is amazing, I honestly couldn't put it down. It's the type of book where you HAVE to know what's going to happen next. It really kept me guessing till the last few pages. I've never read a book quite like it it's really gripping, it had my heart racing in places and I also cried while reading it. So a whole mixture of emotions. It's one of the top 5 books I've read this year and I've read A LOT!! I can't recommend it enough |
3.5 stars Esther gets a cryptic message from husband Robin which simply says ‘Sorry’ which throws her into a blind panic. Where is Robin and her infant daughter Riley? What does Robin have to be sorry for? A knock at the door reveals two police officers.... the story is told alternately by Esther and Robin and in different timelines which at times is a bit confusing. Although this is a decent psychological thriller it does not captivate, enthral or shock to quite the same degree as the authors previous books which I loved. First of all, I dislike the characters especially perfect father Robin who has few redeeming features as he’s a manipulative lying worm. Esther is rather dull and a closed book and I find her infuriating as it takes her so long to wake up to reality. However, it is a good character study and it isn’t a requisite in storytelling that characters should be liked! The author has created a good analysis of a problematic relationship but from about half way through it’s easy to see it for what it is. There are some good reveals dropped into the unfolding storyline but nothing that is especially shocking. I think the novel deserves a better ending which would have placed it in the four star category but it feels rather too convenient. Overall, it’s an easy to read page turner with a good premise. With thanks to NetGalley and Quercus Books for the arc in return for an honest review. |
Yay! Not your typical domestic suspense book, much more!! Tigerettes is a twist in about 35% that will Blow. Your. Mind. Loved it. Five great stars!! |

I'm giving this book 3 STARS because it's was a good book but just a bit slow for. I still recommend reading it if you don't mind a slow burn type of book. |
I received a complimentary copy of The Perfect Father from NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own. Scary realistic! The malignant narcissist husband makes the wife's life a living hell. The wife really had no idea who she married, and trusting him as the main caregiver for their daughter leaves her in an awful and frightening predicament. Previous and current situations initiated by the husband also cause problems for this woman. Charlotte Duckworth did a great job of expressing the wife's emotions through her thoughts and actions (and even inactions)--I was miserable and stressed out, right along with her! Great book! Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC. |
Thank you to Netgalley and publisher Quercus Books for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. The Perfect Father followed married couple Esther and Robin who, after a difficult pregnancy, are learning to cope with life with a newborn. Not wanting to give up her job, Esther returns to work shortly after the birth of her daughter and husband Robin, a struggling comedian, offers to be a stay-at-home-dad. Robin is the perfect dad but, a few years after Riley is born, secrets begin to unravel and Esther comes to realise that Robin might not be as perfect as he appears. One day out of the blue, Robin sends Esther a single text, 'sorry', and she is shocked to find that Robin has run away with their daughter. I really enjoyed reading this book and found it to be incredibly gripping. The storyline had me hooked and there were so many twists and turns, I could barely put it down. I was a little apprehensive at first, not expecting much, but it really surprised me. The characters were all very strong, Robin especially was written in such a great way. He really was a character I grew to loathe as the pages went on and, even when it was obvious he was lying to Esther, I found myself believing him too. He was the perfect villain in this book. This book also had a surprisingly tragic ending, something I wasn't expecting but what brought me to tears. It was very heartwarming and moving, taking me off guard. I didn't expect this at all as many thrillers are written like a rollercoaster, but this one had such a peaceful ending, it was really beautifully written. Overall I rated this book five stars. It was everything I needed it to be and more, a really surprising read that I didn't expect to like as much as I did. I would recommend this one to anyone who loves a good thriller but also wants a bit of depth and suspense. |
I found this book terribly entertaining. Now here comes the BUT... ...parts of it were really off the wall. If you don't mind one totally implausible storyline, then I'd recommend The Perfect Father. It was good fun, and there was one twist I did NOT see coming. I loved the way the story bounced back and forth in time with our two narrators, Esther and Robin. My opinion of Robin totally changed from the beginning of the book to the ending...that's good writing. 3.5 stars Available December 1, 2020 My sincere appreciation to NetGalley and Quercus Books for my review copy. |
This is a slow burn domestic drama that I found a bit hard to get into. I do tinted reading because I'd become invested, but I almost stopped reading a few times as I felt that the pacing was off. However, it ended up being an interesting story and I'm glad I stuck with it. Thank you to the publisher for providing me with a copy of this E-book to review via Netgalley. |
Great, quick read! Enough twists to keep me on my toes, but not so many that it was hard to follow. I enjoyed the format of past/present as well. |
So I didn't like this book...at all and I usually enjoy everything about this premise but sadly this book fell completely flat. First of all, I hated both Robin and Esther. I mean they were both so egotistical and both believed that they were something they were not. I felt like they both had very selfish personalities and only cared about what the situation could get for them. The plot was all over the place. I felt like I was reading the rambles of some crazed person. I had no idea what was going on half the time and the structure of the book left me baffled. The pacing was another story. It would pick up all of a sudden and then suddenly drop weirdly fast. Everything about this was just not good. From the characters, to the plot to the ending. Convenient eh? Just not for me. #ThePerfectFather #NetGalley A good read. After a difficult pregnancy, Esther is grateful that her husband Robin offers to put his career on hold so that she can return to the job she loves. But Esther finds leaving her daughter Riley behind more challenging than she'd thought. And soon the new imbalance in her relationship with Robin brings old tensions to the surface. OR A PERFECT LIE? Then one day Esther arrives home from work to find Robin and Riley are missing. As the police investigate their disappearance, it becomes clear that nothing about this modern-day family is what it seems... Thanks to NetGalley and Quercus books for giving me an advanced copy. |
Unexpected and emotional. That's how this story made me feel. The struggle of motherhood, career and family is real. Some people struggle more than others; however, you just have to make it work. Esther is a real heroine. The characters are very relatable. The style of writing was full of emotions and carefully worded. The toggle of past and present added to the feel of the story. It helps the story move along as opposed to confusion. Thank you to Quercus Books and NetGalley for letting me read this fabulous ARC in exchange for an honest review. |
