This is a fun and quick read. They characters are charming and the plot was engaging to the end! The narrator did a marvelous job. Many thanks to the publisher, author, and NetGalley for the advanced copy. |
Bree is living in her grandmother’s house and wants so badly to have it permanently. The provision is to stick with her job for a year. Sticking with her theater job for a year will be challenging but not nearly so as her new neighbor next door, Chip. She hopes to drive him out of the neighborhood but as she plays pranks on him, he rallies to the task and gives right back. Their antics are so much fun, and it is not long until Chip proves he cares for Bree. Chip’s dog is a hoot, Bree’s parents love Chip and make it harder to drive him away. This book is a quick read with creative antics throughout and a warm romance between two driven people. Loved it! |

A laugh out loud, romantic comedy. I enjoyed every aspect of the Cul-de-Sac War! The clear attraction from the start, followed by the misunderstandings that lead to all-out war were a perfect balance of tension and sweet fulfillment. There is plenty of backstory to both characters that adds an unexpected depth to the story as well. The supporting characters, especially the dog, add a lot of balance to the gamut of emotions experienced in this book. I found myself genuinely laughing at the antics of Bree and Chip and the cringe-worthy situations they found themselves in. Above all, I loved their ability to rise above it all and find what truly matters most. The narrator adds the perfect blend of voices and conveys the scenes in a way that transported me to the actual events. I love her ability to capture the essence of the story. I received a complimentary copy from the publisher via NetGalley and all opinions expressed are my own, freely given. |
The Cul-de-Sac War is my first book from author Melissa Ferguson. I would say it is a slow-burn that you need to stick with. I found parts of it kind of slow, but I am glad I stuck with it in the end, because it was a cute, enjoyable story. Bree Leake and Chip McBride prove that sometimes it isn’t the first impression you have to worry about—it’s the second one that gets you. What follows is a delightful deluge of pranks, sabotage, and witty repartee tied together by the heartstrings that connect to turn a house into a home worth fighting for. |
Kate Rudd is 5 stars!!! Iove her so much and have quite a few books narrated by her. In fact I've brought a book off audible simply because she was narrating it. I really liked Chip. He gave me all the feels in this book. Bree.... If I'm honest I didn't particularly gel with her but enjoyed the story none the less. |
This was so disappointing. The relationship between Chip and Bree was so odd, and the ultimatum from Bree's parents didn't even get introduced until 44%! As I was listening to the audiobook, I felt the narration sounded more like an 'audio description' monotone and didn't engage me at all. I was looking forward to an enemies becoming lovers plot and I didn't care enough for the characters to continue. I hope other readers have a better experience. |
The narrator of "The Cul-de-Sac War" by Melissa Ferguson is brilliant! I love the way she pulled you into the story right along with the actual words, I highly recommend the audiobook for those that listen to books or like me rarely listen to an audiobook. Plot review: This'll be a quick review since I may come back once I have a paperback. All right, I loved The Cul-de-Sac War by Melissa Ferguson, it was witty, humourous, romantic, and completely needed right now. The way this rom-com ended was absolutely adorable. You must order it right away! I voluntarily received and reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. |

I received an arc from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. SLOW BURN. I’m ALWAYS up for a hate to love romance, but this is just very immature and it felt hollow. There was no explanation why the main characters would like each other much less in a romantic way. Their constant pranks got old fast and I felt that the ‘conflict’ was just randomly thrown in as a plot device. However, I did like the dog and the silly interactions with the parents. The book had potential, but it wasn’t for me. |
