4.5 stars This is the sixth book in the Beyond the Page Bookstore mysteries by Lauren Elliott. I enjoyed this book a lot. I did miss the in town setting we normally see. But I thought the relationship between Addie and Mark was much better in this one. Usually, Mark seems overly hostile toward Addie which was something I could never figure out. This was a more laid back Mark. Loved that aspect. The mystery was reminiscent of Ten Little Indians/And Then There Were None, as far as the setting went. The story was set on a yacht and most of the cast didn’t stray from there for most of the storyline. I liked the whole “not really a first edition” plot which circled back to one of the first books in this series where a stolen first edition was featured. This is definitely a series you want to read in order just so you get to know who is who and what the cast is like. The cast is the best part of this and I always look forward to a Lauren Elliott book for just that reason. She creates the homeyness of community like few others do. This is a great series to marathon. This mystery was the most satisfying to me. I think it was the fact that Mark lightened up and the book aspect was featured more. If you like cozy mysteries, definitely check this one out. You won’t be disappointed. I received this as an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) in return for an honest review. I thank NetGalley, the publisher and the author for allowing me to read this title. |

This was a very well written, entertaining mystery. The mystery takes place on a yacht at the wedding of Serena and Zach. Addie, the maid of honor, is an amateur sleuth and owner of a book and curios shop. She is an expert in all things books and was the first to spot the forgeries in the yacht's extensive library of first editions. The chief of police, Addie's former boyfriend, asked her to help the investigation. All the passengers remain from the wedding are locked down on the yacht for the duration of the investigation. Filled with several complicated relationships that no one suspects, this is sure to hold your interest from the first page. |
A cozy mystery after Agatha's heart- as most of the story takes place on a yacht! A very LARGE, well furnished, yacht occupied by people with shared pasts, secrets and passions! A perfect scenario for a mystery that you don't want to put down! Serena must work with her ex, the Police Chief, who is working with HIS current girlfriend, to solve a crime that seems to have too many clues and suspects in the wrong places. It's an interesting entry into the series, and well worth reading as a stand alone! |

When Police Chief Marc Chandler forces Addie Greyborne to accompany him to the police station, he further shocks her by asking her to help identify a newly discovered body. Unable to provide answers, Addie departs to participate in her friend Serena’s wedding aboard The Lady V. Serena’s in-laws own the yacht, and after the wedding, a guest disappears. The missing guest is a reporter, and a fisherman finds her body among the dock pilings the next morning. Lauren Elliot concocts a complex and intriguing mystery. Police keep wedding guests aboard the yacht for days as they investigate the murder and discover fake first editions. Red herrings occupy Addie and her friends as they attempt to find the killer and the motive. The yacht provides an unusual setting that Ms. Elliot uses skillfully as her characters enjoy the dazzling luxury touches while collect clues and information. This 6th entry in the Beyond the Page Bookstore mysteries offers an entertaining read for bibliophiles. |
So nice to have most of the setting on a large, expensive yacht. The glamour and extravagance of that lifestyle balanced out the sordidness of the two murders. Also liked that one of the storylines involved the forgery of classic books from the yacht’s library. Author did great job of having multiple suspects with the reveal of the killer a surprise. Thanks to #NetGalley and #UnderTheCoverOfMurder for advanced digital copy. |

I enjoyed Lauren Elliott's latest addition to her Beyond the Page Bookstore Mystery series. I love how the characters have grown and developed. Death, however, surrounds Serena and Zach's wedding and Addie is once again involved in trying to solve the mystery. There are new and old characters with plenty of opportunity to be suspects. I had one minor issue with 'Under the Cover of Murder' and the re-visiting of Addie and Marc's relationship. I am NOT a fan of a main character who can't decide between two men. Addie seems to have avoided this trope, almost. We shall see. I look forward to more. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own. |

When I started this book I was unaware it was book 6 in the series. Whilst I did enjoy the storyline, I feel it would be best to read this series in order to truly appreciate and understand the characters. I did enjoy the book enough to add this series to my list of books to read. |

I always love a locked door mystery, and I always like an Addie Greyborne mystery. I loved that so many new characters were introduced with so much personal drama because it made for great suspects, but since they were all sequestered, we knew there was a limited pool of suspects. I liked that Addie had Paige and Catherine’s help, but I missed Serena and Simon (for much of the book), as well as the Greyborne Harbor setting. |
Is it just me or do series that take place in a bookstore feel like you are in the story? They seem so familiar to a book lover like myself. Witty, enjoyable read like a cozy mystery book should read. Characters who make you laugh, you find relatable and enjoy their story make it that much more enjoyable. |
“Under the Cover of Murder” is the 6th instalment in the Beyond the Page Bookstore Mystery series by Lauren Elliott. I really enjoyed this latest instalment in the series! I liked that we had two mysteries to solve, the murders and the forged books. The mystery is interesting and well plotted, and I loved all the characters from the over the top Mother in-law to Catherine and Paige. I kept second-guessing myself on whodunnit almost to the very end but I did suspect correctly just before it was revealed. Plus I liked the surprise ending and I’m anxiously awaiting to find out what happens next! I recommend this book to all my cozy lover friends. I can’t wait to read "To the Tome of Murder” book 7 on October 26, 2021! I requested and received an advance reader copy of this book from Kensington Books and Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own. |
I loved this book. Lauren Elliot is a fantastic author who is fantastic at adding lots of plot twists and turns. You get an idea about who you think the murderer is but then boom! She turns around and changes things on you again. I loved that there were about ten different angles that Addie is trying to piece together and as I neared the end of the book I was a bit worried that even she wasn't going to be able to solve it this time then boom! Again, out of nowhere everything comes together and makes perfect sense. This is a really great brain read. It stretches those brain muscles and makes you really think. I honestly had no idea who it was going to be in the end. I was actually taken aback by who it was but then just like Addie, should've have figured it all together but it just never registered. Fabulous book. I was so happy that Serena and Zach finally got married. A part of me thinks that the 'Lady' Veronica just kept changing things to throw up road blocks but I am so so happy that it finally happened. And speaking of her ladyship, I totally disliked her from word go. However, that is the point of having a 'bad guy' in your books. Gotta have some drama in there somewhere. I was also happy to see that Addie's cousin actually had matured from the last book, I had really hated her then but now she's not so bad. Still don't care much for her boyfriend but it's true what they say that there really is no accounting for taste lol. And I was also really happy to see that Addie was able to include more of her friends in helping out solving the case. I am not sure she could've done it without them as this case just seemed so huge. Just a hugely fabulous book. I finished the whole thing in one day! Loved it. Could not have been happier! I was given this ARC to read and review by NetGalley. All opinions are honest and are my own. |

This is one of my favorite cozy mystery series and this volume didn’t to disappoint. Addie is on a luxury yacht (that sounded like a fancy cruise ship) for her dear friend Serena’s wedding. Unfortunately one of the guests on board didn’t survive to hear about the honeymoon. Everyone still on board the following morning, including Addie, is forced to stay on board while the investigation occurs. Anyone who has read about Addie knows she’d be helping to solve it no matter what but this time she literally didn’t have anything else to do but help solve it! And while she’s there she discovers that their host’s library isn’t what he believed it to be and many of his precious first editions are actually fakes. This book was full of humor, literary references, and a fun mystery with lots of potential suspects. I highly recommend it! |
"Under the Cover of Murder" was an OK addition to the Beyond the Page Bookstore Mystery series. Generally, I enjoy this series, but, even for cozy mysteries, there was too much personal drama in this one for me. |
I am sorry now that I have jumped in at book 6. There are many 4 and 5 star reviews for this book so I guess that it is one of those series which benefits by knowing the characters and their relationships. I can only judge by what I experienced in this one book. I enjoyed the setting on the yacht and thought it was a clever way for the author to contain her cast in one place for the duration of the story. Some of the characters were a little OTT and I struggled to believe in Addie's main relationship. I also found the way she gained information by eavesdropping hard to believe. I guess it was all done the way a cosy mystery goes but it turned out to be a just an okay read. |
I find this to be a very entertaining series. This series has terrific characters and great world-building. Addie, for me, is a very likable protagonist and Ms. Elliott has done a great job with her character development. Addie is surrounded by a diverse and fun secondary cast of characters. At the heart of each story is friendship, family, and of course a side of murder. This time around, the murder occurs on-board a yacht, where Addie's friend Serena is getting married. What I particularly enjoyed about this book is that Marc was not so dismissive of Addie's assistance and even sought it on a few occasions. While I do enjoy that change in his treatment, I think that her relationship with Simon is progressing well and I'd like to see it continue. The mystery is similar to a locked door type of mystery. There are two murders, one before the wedding and the one that occurs during the reception - where everyone is aboard the yacht. The question becomes are the two murders related and if so how? There is no lack of suspects and the motives are plentiful. Addie does what she does best, which is to listen, ask questions and try to put together the clues to solve the puzzle. I enjoyed my return visit to Greyharbor and look forward to reading more books in this series. |

Kindle Copy for Review from NetGalley and Kensington Books. I received a free, advance copy of this book and this is my unbiased and voluntary review. Addie is a bridesmaid at Greyborne Harbor's wedding of the year. Held on a luxurious super size yacht, it was a memorable event to be seen especially when a body is washed up on the beach the next day without any ID but a torn page from a book. Addie is ask to identify the book but she cannot. She must figure where the page came from as she goes through the yacht’s library as to solve the case. Will she be able to use her detective skills and figure out the murder before another body is found? Fans of the series will enjoy the read as you peruse it. |
I love the Beyond The Page Bookstore Mystery series and Under The Cover Of Murder is the 6th book in this enjoyable cozy mystery series. It is a wonderful series with likable interesting characters, friendship, family, romance and an intriguing cozy mystery. Addie Greyborne owns a bookstore in Greyborne Harbor. Her best friend, Serena is getting married and Addie is the Maid Of Honor but Serena is a bridezilla and is keeping Addie busy. The wedding isn't happening the way Serena and Zach wanted. It is a big fancy affair on Zach's father's and stepmother's yacht with more people than they wanted. It makes for a fun and interesting story and mystery. A man washes up on shore just as they are boarding the yacht. No one recognizes him and he has nothing on him but a corner of a page from a book. Addie is a rare book expert which comes in very handy. Then an unpopular reporter also is found dead. I really liked how Addie, Marc (the Police Chief), Simon her boyfriend (the Medical Examiner), and her friends worked together to create a Suspects Board to solve the mystery. Those are my favorite parts. There are several suspects but it is well done and easy to follow although just about everyone has a secret. It kept me guessing until the end and there were some surprises! This is a very enjoyable cozy mystery! I highly recommend the whole series. #NetGalley #UnderTheCoverOfMurder |

An entertaining and well written cozy mystery. Great plot and character dynamics. Mystery fans will love this book. I received an advance ebook from the publisher and Netgalley and this is my unbiased review review. |
Fans of this series will enjoy this latest offering. However, I find the protagonist annoying and it affects my enjoyment of the series. The series definitely has the elements of a cozy mystery. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book. |

Under the Cover of Murder is the 6th book in the series Beyond the Page Bookstore Mystery by Lauren Elliott. Serena is getting married to Zac but is going stir crazy with her soon to be step mother in law. The wedding is taking place on Zac’s fathers boat and sounds like a dream come true for any bride to be but Serena just wants a simple wedding. A murder takes place where the body is found on the beach. But there’s also a second victim. This one was a blow as I wasn’t expecting this character to be killed. There are secrets and affairs as well as deceit. The plot is thickening with each chapter and I couldn’t put this book down. I totally enjoyed this book, the plot, the scene and all the new characters involved in one way or another and I would definitely recommend reading this series. |
