Very cute. Thats how I would describe this book. I liked the idea of the genetic sequencing and biological match behind the ever present technology of the wide world of dating, however its not realistic. Thats why I would describe this book as "cute"! I enjoyed the dynamic of the characters and the background of Jess's life, which I feel like so many can relate to.
I thought the author posed the interesting question of do you really believe in soulmates... Would you be with someone because a test result or compatibility score told you you were highly compatible? What would I have done in Jess and Dr. River's situation? I don't know! I love when books can take me to an alternate universe and really get me lost in another world, which is exactly what this book did! I felt like I was watching this book play out in a movie and I felt allllll the emotions attached with it.
Also, I bet they were actually a 100 match when the actual results came in... am I right?!

Thank you to Netgalley, Simon & Schuster, and Christina Lauren for the advanced copy of this book to read and review. All opinions are my own.

I loved this book. It was sweet and cute. The FMC's daughter Juno was a delight. Watching her and River become friends was adorable. I am a big fan of any sort of online dating type of theme in books plus add in a fake relationship and this hot all the right notes for me. One of my faves from 2021.

Sometimes you just need to take a break on a genre and read some popcorn romance and that's what this is. Chicken Soup romance...warms your soul and your loins?!

Idk it's cute and a safe choice to be the balm to some bad horror book I just read.

This was a quick, fun read that I'm glad I picked up.

I do not typically read a lot of romance, but this one was so cute. I loved the single, working mom storyline. I love that Jess had such a sweet support system in her life. I loved best friend Fizzy and daughter Juno.

While this story did have a couple of plot twists, it was pretty predictable but not boring. It was one of the first books of Ms. Lauren's that I have read and now I want to read more.

Thanks to the author, publisher, and netgalley for an advanced ecopy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I’m going to keep this review short and sweet because I don’t need a lot of words to tell you how much I loved The Soulmate Equation.

This book is unputdownable, heart-melting, and swoony (I don’t think this is a word, but I’m making it one). I don’t know what @christinalauren magic is but their books are so easy to devour and get lost in.

I don’t know what took me so long to read this, and so many of my recent reads have been real unimpressive. I needed a winner, and The Soulmate Equation knocked it out of the park for me.

Christina Lauren brings another hit with The Soulmate Equation. I loved the premise of this book - a new dating app that makes genetic matches. If you didn’t believe in soulmates before, you will after this read. The witty banter and burning chemistry wouldn’t allow me to put this one down.

Jess and her best friend, Fizzy, have definitely noticed the aloof, humorless man they call “Americano” (for his coffee order) who comes into the coffee shop they use as an office. His looks don’t quite make up for his personality, or lack thereof. They are stunned to learn that he is the scientist behind a new dating app that claims to match people genetically.

On a whim, both Jess and Fizzy decide to give it a try. To her amazement, Jess learns that she is a near perfect match to one Dr. River Pena—a.k.a., Americano.

Losing a client and having to help her ne’er do well mother again puts single mom Jess in a financial hole so when River’s company offers a financial incentive to pretend to date him she cannot afford (literally) to say no. But to her surprise, she begins to actually like River, and her daughter seems to adore him.

Writing duo Christina Lauren has created such an engaging group of characters, it’s impossible not to love this book. Even the seemingly perfect (other than being a jerk) River reveals hidden vulnerabilities and sensitivities. And turns out to be a really nice guy. This is a different, very fun, romance. #TheSoulmateEquation #NetGalley

Christina Lauren has always been an automatic read for me, i continue to enjoy their books. This book made me question if my boyfriend and I were genetic soulmates, we had meet on a dating app and I wonder if this was something that we could do, would we be a diamond match? I really enjoyed it and my boyfriend also enjoyed discussing it with me. Thank you for the ARC. Can’t wait to see what they work on next.

Another great book by Christina Lauren. Really enjoy all of their work and this one didn't disappoint.

Another cheeky romance from Christina Lauren. This one had a strong female STEM representation which is always refreshing to see in romances. Yes, we want strong career driven female protagonists! I thought the concept of the novel was cleanly executed and really it didn't leave me wanting for more! The chemistry is well written between our female and male lead.

Christina Laurens are some of the best out there for emotionally charged, funny, sexy books and this did not disappoint. I got a little lost at times with the scientific/statistic jargon but it didn’t take away from my enjoyment of the book.

As someone mired in the slog of dating apps, this book was almost TOO life-giving. Jess and River have the most delightful enemies to lovers trajectory spurred by the enticing concept of finding your genetic soulmate match. His surly but actually shy guy hotness was the perfect complement to Jess' forthright and together yet scattered awesomeness and they're joined by an incredibly fun cast of characters including sweet grandparents and a hilarious BFF and daughter. Christina Lauren can really do no wrong in my book and this new one only confirms that love. If you want to feel hopeful about finding that special someone or just be frustrated by impeccable sexual tension that leaves you wanting way more (CLo what the heck??), pick up this book!

Thanks so much for my copy In Exchange for an honest review.

The more I think about this more, the more I struggle with how to review it -
For starters., I LOVE this author duo and feel like everything they write is enjoyable.
The Soulmate Equation immediately drew me in with the science and DNA aspect and the amazing side characters and family life.
Fizzy is one of my favorite side characters and I still laugh to myself when I think about some of the things she has said.
—-I also really loved the family life. The single mom angle and the grandparents who are so loving.

I did not enjoy the relationship between Jess and River. Took too long to get anywhere and just felt bland.

Anyway. Overall I would recommend this book to certain people.
3 stars.

I love Christina Lauren but I just couldn’t connect with the characters on this book. They were meant to be funny but they weren’t. I really wanted to give this one a chance but it didn’t work for me.

The Soulmate Equation is the first book I have read from Christina Lauren in quite a while. The first book I read of hers was Beautiful Bastard so it’s been sometime. There is something about this authors writing that just draws you into the world she creates, and this story is no exception.

Imagine if you will a new type of matchmaking where one is paired based on genetics. Too far fetched? I mean it COULD be a possibility…if one really stretches their imagination and takes a leap of faith. So far there is no way to know which gene will be expressed or the phenotypes that actually make up a person, but I digress. Let’s just say, they found a way. You would expect the perfect partner, right? When Jess and River come together in this book it’s not all happiness, their chemistry was off the charts, but they still had to work at building a relationship and opening up to each other.

Overall a fun, entertaining, enemies to lovers romance that shows this author is highly creative and not afraid to show it!

I had a very hard time getting into this book, I stopped and started numerous times. I’m not that big of a fan of third person narrative, and that threw me off, especially since Christina Lauren us usually written in first person. But once I got into a rhythm with reading it was pretty good. Although I do hope they don’t continue to write in third person.

This book had so much potential, but just ended up being very flat.

First of all, the concept of this is absolutely GENIUS! When I first started getting into it, I was super pumped. But then there was just too much data and vocab that went way over most readers heads, mine included, and that put a major dull factor to this.

I love CL books because of their quirky characters, and there are plenty to be had. But I especially loved Jessica's character and all that she had gone through with her mother and just trying to get ahead in life. I wanted more of an epic falling in love moment for her...and I just didn't get that.

It pains me with how this book progressed because it could've been SO GOOD. Unfortunately I've been disappointed by CL a lot lately. Lets hope 2021 brings things back around for them.

This is, hands down, one of my favorite Christina Lauren novels to date! There's quite a few delightful tropes that made this story for me - nerdy main characters, fake dating, and a slow burn romance. I thought that the characters were entirely believable, and I adored the side characters. Christina Lauren nailed it and stayed true to what they do best, strong character development and dynamics, steamy scenes, and belly-laugh humor. I really enjoyed this story and highly recommend it!

I don’t know why but I kept envisioning Fabio as Americano but with short hair. The way the authors described River aka Americano, I don’t know, he just seemed too good to be true. His relationship with Jess seemed a little too unrealistic but the book was a nice little escape. You can always count on Christina Lauren to provide a feel-good ride.
