Wonderful story development, rich characters, and a plot that hooks you and never lets you go. I love it when I can immerse myself within a book and just forget about real life for awhile and “become” a part of the story. This book totally delivered!

Thank you NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Let's start with the cover. The colors, the phone, the skull... it all works well.

This was my first book by this author, so I wasn't too sure of what to expect from them.
I was pleasantly surprised, honestly.
Unique storyline. Deaf teen is kidnapped soon after meeting a handsome boy. She gets a text from him asking to meet, or was it really from him?

The characters were well-developed and easy to relate to or like.

I'll definitely be looking out for other work by this author.

I’m not normally a thriller reader, but I really liked this book! I really loved the mystery elements, and the way this was told really added to the suspense. I loved the dual perspectives, and I loved how the eventual reveal didn’t feel forced, it felt like a natural conclusion.

Blurb
After Nathan texts and asks Haylie to meet him behind her house, she’s skeptical, but curious about what he has to say. Eagerly anticipating their first date on Friday, she shows up, and waits for him. When Nathan doesn’t show, and Haylie is instead kidnapped, their world is overturned. Nathan becomes the prime suspect while Haylie is kept blindfolded and kept for ransom.

Have you ever read a mystery in which the eventual reveal feels random? When it feels like the killer was only chosen for the shock value? This book avoids that so well! When we learn the kidnapper’s identity, it felt realistic. Even though it wasn’t a huge shock, their motivations made sense.

Although it definitely isn’t the focal point of this story, I really enjoyed the relationship between Nathan and Haylie. His determination to find her was touching, and even though he made a ton of stupid decisions, I enjoyed his character. We got to see much more of his personality than Haylie’s, but I liked her too. Although I was confused when we got to what felt like the ending and there was still 30% left, I liked the way this was resolved.

If you’re a reader of thrillers, and a enjoy a suspenseful book, this is for you!
