This is a cute romance! I enjoyed this thoroughly. It is charming, sweet and entertaining. My reading experience was dampened by a very similar book I read two weeks prior. It made it very difficult not to compare the two with each other. However, that is totally on me. I will definitely pick up other books by this author for sure! |
I liked this. It's actually a storyline I've been getting into with the American women seeking their self worth outside their usual home (country), and farmers are always fun to watch. But despite the hotness and (small) awkward moments of heated chemistry, I actually really enjoyed my connecting with Alyson. She felt like such a mess-up and watching her thrive in a new environment, being able to see that it's not her, but her surroundings, that truly help her blossom, was personally satisfying. The moments before the 'big moment' were a little awkward but still entertaining, and after it all finally "went down", it was a pretty smooth sailing course before the huge climax. It's a recommend if you like the genres and this author. It's cute, it's got hot moments (really, really hot moments) and a sappy ending any romance fan would think deserving of a thumb's up. |
So sweet and fun! Sparks of humor, desire, and a need to just be pull this story together in an amazing way! The characters are relatable and really just want to prove things to themselves and others. |
Alyson and Jay meet in a way you wouldnt want to meet.Next meeting he is shocked to see she is the new neighbor. The only dfference is he is a farmer and she is Googling farming. Alyson inherits her farm from an uncle she doesn't know. Thankfully she has great neighbors who are willing to help. This story not only shows you can do anything and people are always evolving. It has lots of humor, romance and a crazy rooster. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have. ** I received a copy of this book in exchange for a honest review** |
God I read this story weeks ago and thought I had reviewed, but realized that I had not life has just been oh so crazy..This book is seriously too cute. In Cathryn Fox fashion it is sexy however we get a whole lot of laughs. We meet Alyson who is totally out of her element in Nova Scotia trying to prove to her family that she can finally stick it out since she really hasn't been able to with any of her previous attempt at jobs, she inherits a farm and that is where she decides to prove herself and I was thinking wow that is some guts because I would have been like, nope you got there and let me tell you that home girl went with some loubitons and a short skirt and ends up in the ocean with her hottie neighbor Jay who she does not know is her neighbor and vice versa and lets just say that these two sizzle and are hilarious together...so grab a copy and Enjoy! |
4.5 Stars What a great read! I loved the characters, from their honesty in finding themselves to the fun quirky moments. The story is engaging and entertaining and this is why Ms. Fox has become an auto buy for me. Do yourself a favor and grab your copy and start reading The Burbs and the Bees. |
GAH, how I hate when I accidentally find random books, I’ve read that I have not reviewed, and I love. I mean, that’s probably more information than you care to know but #twitchy *sigh* so this is one of those books. Two minutes ago, I was searching Goodreads for a different book I just finished and bam, I find this. #JesusSaveMeFromMyself I don’t think I’ve ever met a Cathryn Fox book that I was not entertained by. If the synopsis does not sell you on the epicness that is Alyson, I don’t know what to tell you, because this chic was the bomb. She is all kinds of off balance but undeterred. It was a hoot to read. The connection she had with Jay was pure Cathryn magic, as always. The story was sexy and flirty and all-around fun. Everything about this story was likeable and I would highly recommend it! 4.5 Sexy Swoony STARS |

I received a complimentary copy of The Burbs and the Bees in exchange for an honest review. This was such a fun and entertaining novel, and my only regret is it ended too soon! I loved reading about Jay and Alyson's story, and found myself shaking my head at the shenanigans they'd get themselves into. It's been a long time since I've read a good, wholesome romance with a little bit of snark and a lot of humor. Very well done Ms. Fox. Keep them coming! |
I’ve been raised as privileged, never wanting for anything. Floating thru life not knowing what I want to do. My parents are getting tired of this and are holding my inheritance until I can find a purpose in life. This is when I inherit, from an uncle I even didn’t know I had, an apple orchard in Nova Scotia. I have to do this for at least thirty days to prove to everyone that I’m capable of completing a task. After arriving at the airport an renting a Tesla, I know I’m nuts, I stop on the coastline and notice an adult and small child at the overlook where they could be swept away by the waves. I try to warn them, but the noise from the ocean is to loud for them to hear me. As I get closer to them, in my high heels, another man tries to warn me of the same thing. As I try explaining, he tries to grab me back and we both fall into the water. Thank goodness a boat sees all this and pull us out. Well come to find out, this my neighbor at the farm, Jay. So things didn’t start out great, but I’m determined to get my life in order. Jay can’t believe the woman he tried saving is his new neighbor. Stupidly, he makes a bet, that he will give his farm away, if Alyson leaves within thirty days. One thing he can say about her, she’s determined to learn the workings of farm life. To top things off, the airline lost her luggage, and now she’s wearing his clothes. One thing for sure, he can’t allow his attraction to get in the way of making sure she’s gone within thirty days. Attraction and lust have a way of worming their way in when you least expect it. This book was funny, romantic and oh so sexy! |

A rom-com that was entertaining, fun, hilarious with some steamy moments and a meet-cute between Alyson and Jay. They're opposite she's a fashionista and he's a farmer but they can't stay away from each other. The Orchard and its inhabitants were such a nice read. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book received from the publisher via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own. |

Alyson has inherited a farm in Nova Scotia from an uncle she's never met. The only problem is she's a city girl who has no idea about farming which means ole trusty google comes to the rescue along with her new next door neighbour Jay. Jay runs his families farm and keeps bees, he feels responsible for his family and is trying to prove he's not the same person he was as a teenager. Both characters are trying to prove a point to people around them, which gives them something to understand about one another. Also can I just say best meet cute I've read recently! This is the first book I've read by Cathryn Fox but it won't be the last, her writing sucked me in and I want more. The banter between Alyson and Jay had me laughing, the chemistry was apparent from their first dip into the Atlantic and only got better as the tension built up. I adored the animal names Barack O'Lama, Cluck Norris and Freddy all which brought a smile to my face each time they appeared in the book. Personally I want to spend more time in Nova Scotia in the town of Farmington. I pray that we get books about Jays brothers Tyler and Beck. This was such a fun read. I generally don’t do genres other than mystery but this one sounded fun and it did not disappoint. It doesn’t hurt that I live in a farming area so I have a soft spot. I would recommend it. |
Look out farmersonly.com the women will be flocking to your site after reading about smoking hot Nova Scotia farmer Jay Andrews. After their meetcute almost drowning together in icy water, Alyson arrives at the orchard she inherited from a great uncle. Her father accused her of not being able to stick to anything for more than a month and she's bet her trust fund to prove him wrong. But she begins to have serious doubts about her capabilities after being chased around the yard by a rooster named Cluck Norris and promptly falling on her face in the mud at the feet of none other than her hot rescuer who just happens to be her neighbor. I had so much fun reading this book. I laughed so hard and I was sharing the hilarious parts of the book with my friend until I got her too interested. I had to stop sharing all the fun so I don't ruin the book for her! I definitely needed this romcom as I sit here recovering from covid. Thank you to Cathryn Fox and Entangled Publishing for giving me the best laughs in weeks! I already purchased Hooked On You and I'm hoping to have as much fun with it as this one. I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. The views and opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own. |
The Burbs and the Bees is a sweet and funny romantic comedy set in a small rural town in Nova Scotia. Alyson is a New York City native who suddenly finds herself the owner of an apple orchard and a menagerie of farm animals. She has no idea what she’s gotten herself in for but if she wants to keep hold of her trust fund she has to make a go of running a farm for the next thirty days. Enter Jay, her very attractive neighbor who seems hellbent on making sure she leaves ASAP. It wouldn’t be so bad if she isn’t finding the attraction getting stronger and stronger and not just for the farm but also for her neighbor. The Burbs and the Bees is a fun romp between total opposites. This one is guaranteed to make you smile. |

Loved reading the fabulous and fantastic story. Alyson, a city girl, inherits an orchard farm in Nova Scotia, and wants to prove to herself and her family that she can succeed. When Jay, the handsome farmer who lives next door to Alyson first meet, its an icy water experience. Read the highly recommended, wonderfully written, full of humor and romance, and a must read love story. |
The Burbs and the Bees by Cathryn Fox A really cute story! I had some laugh out loud moments from this story. The author really laid out a nice read, one that keeps you involved in the story and keeps you wanting to read on and not do anything else. I was totally engrossed. I learned some things I never knew through the story line also! The description of the book is laid out below, as found on NetGalley.com. I received the book in the kindle format through NetGalley.com My opinion and thoughts on the book are entirely my own and freely given. #TheBurbsandtheBees. #NetGalley. #CathrynFox. Description as found on NetGalley.com: I just inherited an apple orchard in Nova Scotia. That’s definitely a sentence I never would have imagined saying in my life. I’ve only ever been a socialite from New York, but that orchard is my chance to prove to my family, and myself, that I can do more. Be more. I may not exactly know what I want out of life yet, but I’m determined to stick to something—and no, I’m not talking about the bee farmer next door. Here’s what I know. If I can’t tough out one full month of a rooster waking me at sunrise, a poolhall parrot with a foul mouth, and a llama that swings both ways, not only will I lose my self-respect, I’ll lose my trust fund too. Here’s what I don’t know. Why my neighbor with the bad attitude and a whole lot of sexy seems hell bent on sending me home. Well screw him. Not literally, of course. Except I just stumbled into his apiary, and got a look at the head beekeepers…stinger. |

There is plenty of sass and sizzle in Cathryn Fox’s fun and flirty romantic comedy, The Burbs and The Bees. New York socialite Alyson never imagined that she would leave the hustle and bustle of the big city behind for an apple orchard in Nova Scotia. But with her father having put her trust fund in jeopardy, Alyson had no other option but to prove to her family and herself that she wasn’t the flighty fashionista everyone thought she was. Sure, she does not know the first thing about farming and doesn’t have the appropriate footwear, but she will show everyone that she can stick to something for longer than a month and that she can make a go of things in Nova Scotia – even if she has barely set foot in Canada and she finds herself having to be fished out of the ocean by gorgeous hunk Jay who looks like he has just stepped out of one of her most explicit fantasies. Alyson is used to glitzy parties and fashion shows, so she is way out of her depth in Nova Scotia. But she has no other alternative but to roll up her sleeves and make the apple orchard a success – even if it means having to put up with a rooster waking her up at all hours, a parrot with a foul mouth and even fouler temper and a llama who swings both ways. Not to mention the sexy bee farmer next door who is making her temperature skyrocket through the roof. Still, Alyson cannot allow anything or anyone to distract her from her quest to restore the fortunes of the apple orchard – not even her hunky next door neighbor. Not that he has exactly put out the red carpet for her. But even though he drives her absolutely insane, Alyson cannot be help but be drawn to him. Has Alyson found a reason to stick around? Even when her one month is up? Or will she hightail back to New York in four weeks’ time? Cathryn Fox certainly knows how to turn up the heat with her smart, funny and delicious new novel, The Burbs and the Bees. Sparkling with humor, emotion and sensuality, Cathryn Fox’s The Burbs and the Bees is packed with zingy banter, red-hot chemistry, steamy romance and plenty of sigh-worthy moments that will keep readers absolutely glued to the book’s pages. Written with flair, brio and style, The Burbs and the Bees is a compelling page-turner about stepping out of your comfort zone, forbidden attraction and falling head over heels in love when you least expect it that is sure to brighten up anyone’s day. |
Alyson is a New York socialite, but she's just inherited an orchard and farm in Nova Scotia, and she has a point to prove with her family (and maybe with herself as well). She bet her father her trust fund that she could stick out life on the farm for at least a month. But her father isn't the only one who doesn't think she'll last the month, and there are a few people that have a lot to gain if she doesn't. Enter Jayden Andrews (Jay to his friends). The two share a near-death experience, which is a hell of a way to meet your hot neighbor. I didn't love Alyson at first, thinking she really was just a spoiled city brat, but I warmed up to her as the story went on. I pretty much loved Jay from the start. I do love a gruff exterior with a marshmallow center. What's your favorite romance trope? Enemies to lovers, forced proximity, from different worlds? If so, this book has you covered. And it could hardly be life on the farm without a swarm of bees, an overly friendly llama, pigs named Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, a guard-rooster named Cluck Norris, a lonely cow, a bar-room rescue parrot with a filthy mouth, and a skunk on the loose. What could possibly go wrong?! I can’t say much more without giving anything away, so you’re just going to have to read it for yourself. |
Light and humorous, The Burbs and the Bees is effortlessly entertaining from the first page. The story is set on in the farming village of Peggy’s Cove in Nova Scotia and is told through the eyes of Alyson Reid and Jayden Andrews, Jay to his friends. I loved the attraction between these two but equally I loved the conflict author Cathryn Fox has set up for them. The secondary characters in this book, both human and animal, also added to my enjoyment. I loved the names Alyson’s uncle had given to his flock - Cluck Norris the rooster, Barrack O’Llama, one of the llamas, and piglets Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner to name just a few. Jay’s seventeen year old brother Tyler was a particular favourite with his smart mouth and witty comebacks. The sense of community you get from this book is another positive. The way Tyler’s family stepped up time and time again to help Alyson cope with one thing after another really impressed me. I am sad to have finished this story because reading it has made me feel so good. I’ve laughed, I’ve cried a little and I’ve sighed. This one is a keeper. |

Fabulous. Alyson is full of surprises but what I love best is her determination and strength even when she doubts herself. She is floundering, not really sure what she wants to do with her life and struggling to make a commitment. When she suddenly inherits a farm from an Uncle she never knew, well, she takes this as a challenge to see if she can run the farm. Meeting Jay, the farmer from next door, happens in a funny and frightening way but sets off a great connection between the two. Jay always knew he would be a farmer and is passionate about what he does. Helping the new owner next door is just part of daily life and having it be Alyson does crazy things to his heart. Of course, he really doesn’t expect a city girl to last on the farm and makes a rash decision. As Alyson works to learn all she can to run the farm, Jay is right there to support her and these two find that they have more in common than they realize. But what happens when Alyson finds out Jay doubted her? This was a wonderful story and I had fun experiencing farm life through Alyson’s eyes. Jay and his brothers are great teachers for her as Alyson not only finds a purpose, but she also finds a family. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review. |
