Dragon shifters and fated mates, what more do you need? I like this series although I think I missed one I was still able to follow the storyline.

Another entertaining and engrossing story by Abigail Owen.
Good world building and character development, a fast paced plot and an interesting romance.

Admittedly, I’ve spent most of my reading of this world build over with the kings and phoenix extravaganza in the Inferno Rising series but I’ve enjoyed the American colonies/enforcers as well. I admit, Levi and Lyndi’s story didn’t grip me like some of the other dragon shifter books that Owen has penned but it was still thoroughly enjoyable. Less political intrigue, plenty of action, and all the steam I’ve come to expect and adore, The Protector is a solid dragon shifter romance. I love how Owen is shaping and changing the world as we go from couple to couple. There are so many directions she can take this and I LOVE it!

After two centuries of pining each other fiercely, hating that attraction and lashing out (looking at you, Lyndi) all that tension finally snaps the tenuous hold on our dear shifters. This felt incredibly fast-paced book! Lyndi and Levi have already flirted around their lines in the sand so we miss a lot of the relationship build up but we still get to enjoy that snap of reserve and giving in to all the lust and feels. I loved that Levi set some of his alpha tendencies to the side and trusted Lyndi as a skilled member of the team. That respect is like catnip for me! I just want to roll around in all that gallant hero goodness.

I do wish I was more enamored with this story but it feels like that issue is more on myself as a reader rather than issues with the story. Overall, it was a solid addition to the series and I’m looking forward to Rune’s book!

I highly recommend for fans of paranormal romance that love the unrequited/pining, enemies-to-lovers (kinda) tropes. While it can be read as a standalone, I do think you would be doing yourself a favor reading the first three books first and maybe a bit of the Inferno Rising series as well.

Great read and yet again ms Owen has done a great job world building and keep true to her characters. The relationship growth is fantastic.

Wow. Just wow! I am absolutely in awe!

Things for our dragon enforcement team are on rocky ground. Colonies think they are trouble and stealing mates. The Alaz enforcers have been turning against them under the guise of looking for Rune.

Lyndi is female born dragon. This means she can’t be a true mate. Or have children. She is nothing but a waste to the other males in the species. So she has pushed her dragon’s desire to have Levi. Her choice could be taken from her.

Levi has waited two hundred years for Lyndi. But she is stubborn. But time is running out for him. As the war rages on, he is called back to his king. But he is determined to make her his before his departure. But fate has more in store for them.

Oh my! This book is sooo good! And the ending.....wow. Abigail couldn’t have done it better. This book was full of firsts and surprises. Many many twists and turns. I am so in love with theses characters. I absolutely love this series. It is full of adrenaline and excitement. Not to mention hot, sexy dragons!

Abigail’s dragon shifters and their stories are the best I have read. You never know how it will turn out, but have faith it will. Her characters are strong and have deep souls. There are evil villains to add to the rush you get while reading these. But never fear, determination and the love of fated mates conquer all.

I can’t wait to read what’s next. I know it will exceed all expectations!

I enjoyed this book. The characters were dimensional, and I was rooting for even the ones that had very little page-time. The plot was fast-paced and the world-building was interesting, so I flew through the book quite quickly.

This is book 4 in the Fire's Edge series. Having not read the first three, I was a little confused sometimes, but was able to follow the story for the most part. I've read two in the related series, Inferno Rising, so some of the characters were familiar. I would recommend this book to paranormal romance lovers, especially those who enjoy dragon-shifter stories.

To really enjoy this book I would recommend reading the previous books first to set the world and characters in place ..... that being said the book can be read as a standalone

Lyndi Chandall is the sole female-born dragon shifter and because she cannot conceive expects to be married off in a politcal marrige ........ the thought of which she lives in dread of .
Levi Rowtag is a gold dragon and whilst knowing Lyndi is his mate he has manage to put the thought to the back of his mind ......... how can he take a sterile mate ?
When she discovers the King has promised her in marriage to a dragon she depises her team resolve to protect and hide her ............ but there is danger to her fosterings , unwanted orphan dragons who would otherwise be killed ..... can she keep them safe and remain hidden ?
But the world of Dragon Shifters is changing - the rules falling apart ............... can Lyndi and Levi risk their true destinies or will they be driven apart forever ?

This an entertaining fantasy book with many twists and turns which slowly brings together the various factions
across this world ........ I look forward to the next book in the series .

Yes!!!! I can't get enough of this series! Lyndi and Levi have known each other for hundreds of years. He recognized her as mate right away but she continued to blow him off.

The world as they know it is changing. What better time to shake things up in their enforcer group? Lots of action in this one. Some come to Jesus moments. And lots of chemistry between Levi and Lyndi.

Loved seeing the rest of the gang. Loved getting their side of the events happening in the other series with the Kings and the Phoenixes. Lyndi could not have been a better heroine, Tough yet tender. Heart of gold for all her 'kids'. LOVED that Levi wanted not only to protect her from what was being asked of her but to take her chosen family to safety as well.

Great twist to what we know about female dragons! Can't wait to see where we go from here!

Loved it!

I thought the story as a whole was ok but it was very drawn out. It was hard to stay interested with the constant back and forth with Lyndi and Levi. I could have really loved this story if there was less filler.
3 stars.

book 5 in the fire's edge series continues to propel the intricate story of the dragon clans forward. again focused on the american contingent, the ties between the companion series inferno rising series are there, and for maximum enjoyment i strongly recommend reading the series in publication order.
the protector focuses on lyndi chandall the sole female-born dragon shifter based with the huracan enforcers, and the beta of the team, gold dragon, levi rowtag. it is a well-known fact that female dragons are sterile and therefore can't mate, but in a world where the rules about dragon shifters are falling apart, the connection between levi and lyndi can't be denied.

from the moment they met 200 years ago, levi has known lyndi was his mate. but she mistook his reaction as a rebuff, and they've been at cross-purposes ever since. but as the situation around them grows desperate, levi can't deny the connection anymore. and lyndi can't resist giving into temptation, even though she knows that it's impossible.

but this series keeps proving that there's no such thing, and lyndi and levi get the happy ending they deserve. of course there is more, and i can't wait for the next installment!

**the protector will publish on december 7, 2020. i received an advance reader copy courtesy of netgalley/entangled publishing (amara) in exchange for my honest review.

I enjoyed this dragon shifter romance, part of the author's Fire's Edge series, but influenced by the event's happening in the parallel Inferno Rising series. While the Inferno Rising series deals more with the politics happening between the dragon clans, the Fire's Edge series is centered on a group of dragon shifters who are enforcers sent to the colonies in North America to keep the laws in the new world. They don't belong to any one clan but are rather a mix (and some of them are rogue, clanless dragons as well).

Lyndi Chandali rescues orphaned dragons and has given them a home with the Huracan team of enforcers. She is of royal blood and special, as she is a rare female born dragon. As such she is sterile and isn't expected to have a dragon mate but that doesn't stop enforcer Levi Rowtag from expressing his interest. She's tried to keep him at bay but with unknown dangers threatening them, she turns to Levi for help and discovers a passion is equally shared. When she discovers that her king has promised her in marriage to someone she despises, her team will work to keep her safe and dispel any threats. The worldbuilding is complex and there are multiple characters and viewpoints, along with a very satisfying and sexy romance between Lyndi and Levi. I don't find that the stories work that easily as standalone stories because of the complex story arcs overlapping the series but the author does try to simplify things with recaps and the romances are definitely unique to each story. I like the world, the characters, the conflicts and the exciting fast-paced action. I'll be ready for the next one!

The Protector is the 4th book in the Fire's Edge series. The two MC's are denying they can be mates. There's a whole lot of angst and the heroine not admitting the connection for over 200 years, geezz, that's a long time (at least in human time, I guess in dragon time it's not long at all). There is a lot of action and keeps the book rolling. You might want to read the other books in the series as it adds to more depth but you can also read it as a standalone too. Of course it also leaves you hanging for the next book in the series so lets see where Owen's takes us.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book in return for an honest review. All spelling and grammar errors are totally my own.

I love this series and I wasn’t disappointed with this installment. The world building and storytelling continue to be on point with the perfect balance of intrigue, action and sexiness. Levi is the pack Beta and Lyndi a female dragon. He is full of surprises and Lyndi is strong and brave. You get to revisit many of the previous characters and meet some new ones. Lyndi’s “boys” in particular. Dare I say this might be my favorite one so far?

I was excited to receive another book by an author who has become one of my favorites! This one involves Lyndi, Drake’s sister and Levi, the beta of the team. I’ve liked Lyndi since the beginning of this series so I was excited to get her book. I think that this is probably my favorite book by this author so far. I just really loved everything about it. I really loved both Lyndi and Levi (my heart went out to him until the end!). They really deserved their HEA! I’m also excited about the end points that are leading into the book! I highly recommend.

Lyndi is a female born dragon and knows what’s in store for her. She’s independent, head strong, stubborn, but she still cares.

Levi knows that Lyndi is his from the start. However nothing he does is the right thing. Constantly hitting heads, she feels he’s over bearing and a jerk, he knows she does care for him and is standoffish.

When Levi is called to his kings side and danger closes in they will have to figure out their stuff or be In Danger of losing something special.

It was good and interesting. Like it a lot!

4.5 stars - This was another engrossing read! I love that the heroine, a female born red dragon, who thought she’d only be used as a political pawn gets the opportunity to have such a transformative storyline. This book was different than I expected though. I believe there is still one Phoenix sister yet to be mated, and I was expecting her story next. I’m not complaining, this was a very nice read, just not what I expected.

This was another win for me by Abigail Owen. This is the 4th book in the series and the best one so far! I couldn't put it down once I started it, absolutely loved it. Been wanting a book about Levi and Lydia since we met them earlier in the series, wasn't let down at all. Highly recommend this series for anyone that likes Dragon shifter romance.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher, voluntarily read and reviewed all opinions are my own.

This one is easily the best book in this series!

It still has the same old feel as the others, pretty much going rogue and defying the alliance, but it also has it’s own feel too.

Lyndi is a female born dragon which means, to society, all she is good for is political moves or helping raise her brothers’ children. Neither are an option for her because she refuses it. It is her life, her fate, and she will do damn well as she pleases.

Levi has known Lyndi for 200 years now and since day 1 he has wanted her. She rebuffed him on that day and has since. Common miscommunication at it’s best. Usually that makes me angry in a story, and while they’ve bickered enough, they don’t truly hold it against each other. They don’t throw it in each other’s faces like other stories would play out.

Levi has been called back to his clan by the new Gold King, Brand Astarot. He has 1 week to convince Lyndi to be his and wait for him to come back to her. Of course there are other powers at play here. The Alaz enforcer team is problem number one. Their leader, Tineen, has taken it upon himself to bring down the Huracan enforcers any way possible. What he doesn’t realize is that the Huracan’s have essentially gone rogue so they think like a rogue. They know how to plan for almost all instances.

I felt like this specific story would change the course of the Dragons and it certainly did that! Lyndi and Levi have great chemistry and Levi is just so swoon worthy!
His intentions seem way more pure than any of the other enforcers which makes this more believable.

I did see the ending coming but in a good way. Mostly one that ensure that happy ending! But what I’m most excited about is Rune’s story! Who doesn’t love an outlaw with a good heart!?

This one wasn't a favorite of mine in the series. Where I didn't mind the political aspects of the other books, this one just had too much for me. I don't know...I just wasn't feeling it here. What I did really like is that the team still treats Finn as the leader. Which was something I was hoping for with how the last book ended.

Levi is being called back by his new king to fight the war going on on the other side of the world. He has a week (I think) to get there. Then there's Lyndi. Being born a female dragon, she always knew that the only value on her life would be a political marriage. But she never would have thought it would be to who comes to claim her. It's these situations that have Levi and Lyndi finally acknowledging their feelings for each other. Feelings that have been misunderstood for over a century. Their first encounter had Levi fleeing because of his dragon's strong desire to claim Lyndi, which left Lyndi thinking that Levi was snubbing her because she was female. So for all of those years both of these two have thought that the other has hated them. When they finally come together, Levi knows exactly what he wants for his future. But Lyndi fights it because she doesn't want to be the one to take Levi away from his true mate. Too bad for her, Levi is determined to get what he wants no matter what. Because of Lyndi's horrid engagement, a plan has to be made in order to protect her and all of the orphans that she has taken in. The consequences of this plan could be disastrous if found out before they get to safety, but it's chance they all have to take.

Adding to the problems of those two is the fact that some other group of dragons is going around starting fires and attacking other dragons all while setting it up to look like it's the Huracan team doing it. As if the team isn't already under enough suspicion. So there's that to deal with too, and the ones behind it really doesn't come as a surprise.

I liked how everything all went down at the end with their enemies. And while one thing that happened with Lyndi was super predictable, another thing wasn't so much and was actually pretty neat.

According the series summary, this should be the last book of this one. Which is really too bad because I would have loved to get a book with Rivin and Keighan. But it also seems like a really odd place to end things with this team.

I really liked the heroine, she’s strong, determined to help the orphans who are rejected by the clans before turning rogues and executed, and without realizing she's made herself a big family with them. After a misunderstanding on the day they first met, she believes Levi despises her for her birth, and she protects herself by being in opposition with him every chance she has. When she learns the American council has decided to mate her with the chief of another enforcers’ team and dismantle her group of orphans, she’s peeved, but she’s not deterred and decides of a plan to help her save her protégés and herself.

Levi is a male alpha hero who, from their first meeting, is attracted to the heroine, but as she’s keeping him at arm’s length he only desires her from afar and tries to protect her – which Lyndi always interprets as a lack of trust in her abilities. As soon as he sees a crack in the heroine’s wall, he acts, and if he’s quite domineering during the love scenes, the rest of the time he respects her skills and her opinion, to Lyndi’s surprise (clearly she never really thought about it because the guy doesn’t seem to force himself to respect her, so he already acted like this before). He’s quickly torn between his duty for his king who called for his help, and his desire to solidify his mating with Lyndi.

Between them the attraction is present but snuffed from their meeting a loooooong time ago, and when they take the leap she’s determined not to yield too much to her attraction because she thinks he’s allowed to wait for his fated mate. The fact she’s dragon-born, and so sterile, has her take decisions “for Levi’s sake” that annoyed me as much as when it’s a hero doing it. She takes a long time to finally accept it, and that irked me a little.

What I especially love with this author is the fact we really the dragons (I won’t fangirl again, but dragon shifters well used that’s hot stuff!). Here there are lots of scenes where characters use their animal form, and several scenes of aerial battle quite gripping. However the plot takes time to really begin, and some points weren’t clear even if I read the other series. But above all big rant: I hate when an author kills a supporting character, whether it’s useful or not (and here it isn’t).
Everyone’s abilities are clearly used and there’s an unexpected twist which intensifies our couple’s HEA, opening the way for characters seen in the other series.

All in all I really liked this novel in spite of the points I noted, and I just have to read the previous volumes before the publication of the next in the parallel series in March 2021.
