I'd give this book 3.5 stars if I could! It's well-laid out, easy to read, and has some accessible recipes and information. It front loads information, and at times it's a lot. As someone who is interested in anti-inflammatory cooking already, I found some of it familiar, but it may be a bit overwhelming to the uninitiated. That being said, the content itself seems attainable and not too complex, with a wide mix of options!

This is a cookbook more than a health book. There is a little bit of information about specific anti-inflammatory foods, but the focus is on the recipes. Users new to anti-inflammatory eating should start with a more medically-focused book before diving in. There was also a weird amount of information on kids: adapting recipes into baby food, dealing with picky eaters, etc. Most anti-inflammatory resources I've seen are geared toward an older audience (adults with arthritis, etc.); I know that my recently-diagnosed condition can be found in children, but I'm not sure how common it is; I haven't seen anti-inflammatory coming up as a new family eating fad. A better choice might have been a more robust anti-inflammatory guide, and a separate book for parents.

The tone was a little hokey and oversimplified, but I did write down 3 or 4 recipes.

I do not have kids, but this would likely be a great recipe book for helping kids each healthier. It’s also a decent book for anyone to eat healthier, kids or no. There’s great detail on the benefits of anti-inflammatory foods. Also great detail on getting kids to eat these types of foods. A chart on different types of additives and what they do to the body. Not all photos, but good-looking recipes. I loved the spice blends, as I always enjoying finding new spice blend recipes. As someone who has constantly read and researched anti-inflammation on my own and am always looking for new recipes, I enjoyed the detail of this book and believe it can help families understand our bodies and the foods we eat much better, along with offering great recipes to make eating healthier easier.

THE ANTI-INFLAMMATORY FAMILY COOKBOOK is filled with worthwhile and useful information for adults and the children living with them. In addition to requisite recipes, the authors take time explaining the role of inflammation and disease and the corresponding opportunities for wellness behaviors. I was particularly impressed with two novel additions in this book. There are several spice mixtures the authors describe as useful for everyday cooking and their recipes are included. There is also a wonderful chart for parents to use with children to learn ways to discuss food using their senses while expanding their vocabulary and tastes. These are excellent ideas. This is a great book for everyday usage. I received my copy from the publisher through NetGalley.

3.5 stars

I was excited to check out this cookbook, as I have looked into and considered the anti-inflammatory approach to meal planning for some time. I was always afraid I'd never find recipes using foods I'd actually eat and enjoy. This cookbook showed me that those recipes do exist!

The cookbook is quite informative for those looing to start an anti-inflammatory journey. There's a nice mix of recipes, and many seem easy to make. There is a focus on non-processed foods, which could be beneficial for most, if not all, people. Recipe substitution options and tips are also included.

I would have liked, and I expected to find, more photos, but there are a number of recipes that I look forward to trying soon.

In addition to the recipes, the authors also educate the reader on inflammation and how the anti-inflammatory method can improve one's health. It's evident that a lot of research went into this book.

I would not adopt The Anti-Inflammatory Family Cookbook as part of a curriculum or for a classroom library.

The Anti-Inflammatory Family Cookbook is a wealth of important information for those beginning down the anti-inflammatory, healthy eating journey for their family. The recipes are a mix of classic favorites, easy to make, and a few that require a few more skills. The best part of the book for me was in the beginning when the authors were recognizing the cultural issues that occur, not only within the publishing industry, but with food bloggers, chefs, and cookbook authors. I whole heartedly appreciated their viewpoints and their explanations of this and who they are with their background. Because of their due diligence with this, I will happily promote their book when I can.

The Anti-Inflammatory Family Cookbook is a resource book about inflammation, as well as a recipe book featuring anti-inflammatory recipes.

I found this book to be very informative and helpful regarding lowering inflammation & improving related conditions. There is also a focus on child-friendly recipes for those with children to feed. I thought the recipes were great and seemed easy to follow. I love how they focused on not-processed foods. While there are a lot of recipes that include items that my husband won't eat, I was able to find some that I can work into our home menu options.

I think is a great resource for someone looking to improve their overall health with some great recipes!

I'm so grateful to the authors, Adams Media, and NetGalley for providing me with a free copy of this ARC ebook in exchange for my honest review.

This cookbook does a great job at including kid-friendly, adults-(probably)-only, and DIY to everyone’s own tastes. Many of the recipes also have notes at the end for substitutions and other tips. It’s a great cookbook to give as a gift to new families or more established families who may need some new staples.

The Anti-Inflammatory Family cook book reads more like a text book which is interesting but not always helpful for those needing to learn to help children understand the need for a different style of eating for their health. Every single recipe gives nutritional information is provided for every recipe.
The cook books also provide lots of different blends of seasoning that will had extra flavors will help everyone adjust to the different way of eating.
The book focus on gut health that will help readers understand why gut health is so important to reducing Anti Inflammatory.
This might not be for everyone but it is worth a try if you can get you kids to try the food. I haven't found any luck yet.
Thank you to Netgalley for the advance copy for the The Anti-Inflammatory Family Cookbook: The Kid-Friendly, Physician-Approved Way to Transform Your Family's Health

Thank you Net Galley and Adams Media for this e-ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Two words made me want to read this cookbook: 'anti-inflammatory' and 'family'. And the book did not disappoint. No only did I get to learn a lot about internal inflammations due to our diets and stress, but also which foods are the best to prevent diseases and how they positively affect the body... and the mind. The recipe section is divided into 8 parts: anti-inflammatory spice blends and sauces, breakfast, lunch, dinner, sides, snacks, desserts, and beverages. The recipes are simple, delicious and easy to make. I personally tried the Eggplant Shakshuka today. It became an instant favorite in my household.

Some dishes are appropriate for babies. When they are, there is a little 'Baby Food' annotation at the bottom of the page explaining how to make this dish baby-friendly.

A good investment for you and your family. Also a great gift idea!

What a wonderful resource to add to your collection of cookbooks! This was an interesting and informative book on the anti-inflammatory diet. As someone who suffers from multiple chronic illnesses, this was a wonderful book to explain the benefits of eating anti-inflammatory foods. The recipes are delicious, as well. I know my family already feels better after a week of eating these recipes. It is a book you can always refer back to again and again. The cover is also excellent, too.

A huge thanks to the publisher for the ARC. Firstly I loved the book and I was attracted to it because of the cover. I loved that the book is 'anti-Inflammatory' and the recipes were easy to follow. I thought I would get to see more pictures and fewer notes, especially on the first pages because I am of the notion that cookbooks should have fewer notes and facts and more recipes with amazing pictures. Totally recommend this book to anyone hoping to eat right or with a problematic tummy like mine

This is a well-written book by a knowledgeable collaboration of authors. I grew up eating only processed foods. I wish this information had been available back then. I have since explored many diets and reviewed extensive information from health experts. This book is a compilation of that knowledge in a succinct, easy to understand format. I appreciate how the authors have included tips for applying the recipes into baby food.
As with all "healthy" cookbooks, the variety of new ingredients you will need is extensive. Changing your eating habits is not easy. My suggestion is to find a health-food store and start perusing the aisles. I am lucky to have Natural Grocers in my town, which only sells organic foods at fairly reasonable prices. My whole family has remarked on the improved taste of organic foods. I have also benefitted from friends who have coached me into better eating habits. This book gives tips on bringing your children with you into healthier eating habits.
I appreciated the nutritional information on all recipes. I liked the breakdown of breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, sides, dessert, and drinks.
My complaints are minimal. I feel like half the book was background information, so the recipe section felt light to me. I have also recently figured out I'm gluten intolerant despite going to Western medicine doctors since early adolescence with stomach issues. Since 3% of Americans have celiac and another 3-6% have gluten intolerance or true gluten allergy, I think this book should have spent more time on food allergies, especially with pediatricians as co-authors. However, each recipe does label for gluten-free, nut free, egg free and dairy free.
In total, this is a wonderful compilation of healthy eating knowledge and easy to follow recipes intended to appeal to the entire family. Bon appetit!

This book is very detailed, it contained a lot more theory than I anticipated, however a lot of information may be of use if you are looking to implement some of the behaviors for your children/family/own diet.

I'd have preferred more recipe options and imagery, however there are some interesting options for replacing my usual choices. I'm looking forward to trying the Jam Dot cookies and making my own Walnut Pesto!

Thank you to Adams Media and Netgalley for a copy of the ARC in return for my honest review.

Before you get to cooking, this book will tell you all about inflammation and how the anti-inflammatory method works to help ward off disease and help decrease health problems. It breaks down common food additives (think high fructose corn syrup and MSG) and offers tips for avoiding. There’s a whole section on sugars and artificial sweeteners as well as the different types of fats, which are good and bad, and how to cook with them. Like many cookbooks, the next section explains the kitchen you’ll need (aka what types of foods you’ll find in the recipes) and tips for finding the highest quality items of each food. Since this is a family cookbook, there is a section about getting your kids on board with anti-inflammatory eating, as many kids can be super picky (I know I was).

Before food recipes, there are several spice blend recipes. I may be a white girl, but I do love a good spice blend and am always looking for ways to add more flavor to the basic “good for you” foods. Tahini is one of my favorite things, and it’s used in several of these blends. Forget the recipes. I’m super excited to try some of these spice blends.

Once you’ve got the spices down, the rest of the book is divided up like a regular cookbook with recipes for breakfasts, lunches, dinners, sides, snacks, desserts, and even beverages. A minimum of 95% of these look delicious and actually like things I could try in my own kitchen. Plus, there’s a handy US/Metric conversion chart in the back which is a good tool to have not only for this book, but for online recipes as well.

This one’s out in February, so if you’re trying to be healthier, curb chronic pain and illness, and ensure that your kids eat well, check this cookbook out.

I appreciated the plethora of healthy and immunity-boosting anti-inflammatory recipes that actually sound good. I've been searching for new breakfast ideas that will not just give my son and me a sugar rush, and these look attainable, fast, and delicious. An excellent option as a cookbook and reference book and perhaps vital for those who need to newly adapt to an anti-inflammatory diet.
