Jackie Carmichael owns Bolsa Coffee and Tea with her best friend Quinn. They have a great staff, except one day when Kelsi doesn't show up at work. Jackie tries to find Kelsi, but comes up with little more than dead ends.

Kelly Jenks is a former mailman turned private detective who is looking for a missing girl, only to find her beaten and left unconscious in a bathtub.

Jackie enlists Kelly's help you find her employee, but the situation is so much bigger than either of them could see at first.

This was a great book. It is action packed and kept me on the edge of my seat. I found myself nervous about what was coming next. I am looking forward to a follow up!

This tough to categorize, but it is very good. It's mostly a mystery, and one that is pretty compelling, although mostly dark. This is never boring -- a varied, interesting cast that are mixed up in a unique plot. Most mystery fans (and others) will enjoy this one.

I really appreciate the review copy!!

I really enjoyed this book and the differing points of view we got throughout the story. However, I did feel as though there were things I was missing, especially towards the beginning of the book. Kelly has a murder hole he drops people in? And his colleagues are okay with it? It seems as thought this might have been something explained in a different book and would make sense if I had read that before reading this. But I liked the plot and how everything was answered and wrapped up nicely in the end when a few chapters before it felt like that might not happen.

* I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

Thank you very much to the publisher and netgalley for a copy to review.
Full disclosure, at least a small part of me regrets requesting this one. Not because I regret reading it, but rather I dislike writing reviews for books I can not claim are exceptional, or blew my mind in plot or character. This title is a very readable neo-noir. The author did an admirable job making caffiene, nicotine and music central focuses of the novel. Yet it isnt an outstanding mystery or thriller. It's better than ok but just better, laughs maybe there is irony in a like warm recommendation?

Really fun read about an unconventional PI named Kelly Banks (he thinks he has a girl's name, so he only dates women with boys' names - just one of his many quirks). Banks perceives himself as a psychopath, but not a murderous one, while everyone around him perceives him as a deeply caring, perceptive surfer dude. Oh, and he also interacts with the dead - sometimes. Great writing, unique characters and a good plot. As soon as I finished CAFFEINE AND NICOTINE, I purchased and read the first Kelly Banks novel, THE INTERVIEW, which was equally intriguing.

In this book Jackie was a wonderful, strong and likeable character. She meets Kelly, a private investigator, although she doesn't know it yet. Kelly is a strong hotheaded private investigator who shows his more gentle side as we delve further into the book. Jackie is looking to make sure one of her employees, who has come up missing, is ok. I genuinely liked this book and I would love to read more from this author. I love how it incorporated paranormal, suspense, romance and legal all into one book!
