The Perfect Marriage by Jeneva Rose pulled me in immediately. I loved the twists and turns the author wrote. Kudos to the author for not letting me figure it out the ending. Neil Hellegers and Teri Schnaubelt both were fantastic bringing the characters to life. They each added the right emotions to their performance. Thank you #NetGalley and #Dreamscape Media for this great audiobook. I loved it.

It is very difficult for me to share negative opinions on books because I know that authors pour their heart and soul into their books. I strive to always extend grace to authors, but, ultimately, my responsibility is to readers. I will always share my honest thoughts.

There are so many elements to this book that I really liked. The writing is good, the premise is alluring, the characters are relatable, it’s perfectly paced, she did a great job at casting suspicions around. I LOVED the book until the end.
.
It seemed to me that the author had the goal of writing a shocking ending, which she delivered- but, I feel like it was at the expense of the overall integrity of the plot.

I am normally not a nitpicky reader, I can ignore some coincidences and holes, realizing it’s fiction, but there was just too much for me to get past in this one. It just fell apart for me.

Thank you to Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for the audiobook version of this book. This was an excellent who done it mystery and I did not figure out the murderer in advance, and this makes me very happy. What a sick and twisted reveal to what really happened to Kelly and how she came to be murdered! While I found many aspects of Scott's case, including Sarah's work as his attorney, to be quite unrealistic, I still thoroughly enjoyed the mystery as a complete work of fiction and I stuck with it. I'm glad I did!

Having a dedicated narrator for both Sarah and Scott really helped bring this story to life. The back and forth story telling between his and her points of views fleshed out the mystery well and yet still kept me guessing.

Rating: 4.5/ 🍷 🍷 🍷 🍷 and a half of glass
Book: The Perfect Marriage
Release Date: Available TODAY!!! (December 29, 2020)
Author: Jeneva Rose
Genre: Mystery & Thrillers

Sipping Synopsis: Picture the person that you love and have devoted your life to has cheated on you. Now picture this, you are a big shot lawyer who decides to represent this cheating husband because the woman he cheated on you with has been found dead in your second house. This is what has happened to Sarah Morgan as she tries to defend her husband, Adam Morgan, who looks mighty guilty.

Final sipping thoughts: For the record, I would absolutely NOT be representing my husband if I were a lawyer and he cheated on me. In reality, I would probably need a lawyer as this cheating husband might have the same fate as his mistress, if you get my drift 😠😏. As soon as I read the first few chapters, I absolutely knew who the killer was. Although I was correct, the how, why, and juicy details were OH SO good!! This may be Jeneva’s debut novel but if she writes any follow-up novels like this one, I will be first in line to grab it! I want to also note that I listened to the audio version of this and the narrators Neil Hellegers and Teri Schnaubelt embodied the characters Sarah and Adam. The nuances of their voices and the emotion behind it had me wanting to keep going to the next chapter even though I needed to do all the things required as an adulting wife and mother.

Cheers and thank you to @NetGalley, @DreamscapeMedia and @JenevaRoseAuthor for an advanced copy of @ThePerfectMarriage

I loved this! I devoured this one in a day because it was just so good! There are so many questions that go through your mind throughout the book and you will never guess the ending. Being a crime enthusiast, I went through so many different scenarios and I never came up with the correct answer. I enjoyed the multiple perspectives and the additional characters really added to the story. I had a hunch about one part but that was it! I didn't like some of the characters but that was how it was meant to be. You are not supposed to love all these characters and it adds to the mystery of trying to figure out who the guilty one is! I loved all the added twists which made it even harder to come to a conclusion. This was like watching an episode of Criminal Minds and I was all for it!

This being the debut novel for Jeneva is so exciting as it was amazing. I am really looking forward to what else she comes out with in the future!

Adam's mistress, Kelly, winds up stabbed to death in the lake house that he shares with his workaholic wife, Sarah, and he is the prime suspect. Sarah is a prominent criminal defense attorney and agrees to take Adam's case despite his infidelity.

I thought this was an excellent book that I cruised through in a day because I had to know what was going on. It was an intriguing premise and there were just enough possibly guilty people to keep me guessing. Excellent debut. Can't wait to read more from this author.

Wow, just wow! I am sitting here a little speechless after listening to this book. That ending was superb. I mean, the rest of the book was great as well, but I honest;y didn’t see that coming until right before it happened!!

I definitely do not want to give anything away about this book because I wouldn’t want to t]ruin it for anyone else. So I will say if you like a good psychological thriller, pick it up! Now! And the audio version was so good. Both narrators did a wonderful job and I look forward to listening to another audio by both of them.

I love it when a book lives up to the hype! Sarah Morgan, a successful defense attorney, takes on her husband Adam as a client after his mistress is found stabbed to death in their second home. But did he do it? Told from both Sarah and Adam’s perspectives, this book is addicting and deliciously twisty, and you won’t be able to stop listening until you reach its shocking end.

It took a few chapters to adjust to the voices of the secondary characters, but other than that, this is my new favorite audiobook. The Perfect Marriage was the perfect start to my NetGalley experience.

"His mistress is dead. His wife is his only hope." The tagline immediately made me want to read The Perfect Marriage by Jeneva Rose. I'm happy to say that it did not disappoint!

Sarah Morgan is a BOSS (are the kids still saying that nowadays?). She is partner at a prestigious law firm and one of the most successful defense attorneys in the Washington, D.C. area. Her life is dedicated to her job and while she loves her husband, it's obvious from the start that her marriage comes second. Adam, a struggling novelist, does not enjoy living in his wife's shadow and spending so much time alone while Sarah works late into the night. It's only a matter of time before he begins having an affair with a waitress. He comes to love both women for different reasons and can't decide which one he should leave the other for. Adam's choice is made for him when his mistress is found stabbed to death in his bed. Facing a murder charge that includes a death sentence, Adam is facing an uphill battle as all the evidence points directly to him. If he has any chance of proving his innocence, he needs his wife's help, but can he trust that she has his best interests in mind after all he's done to her?

This was a solid thriller that will surely entertain fans of the genre. The novel moves along at a quick pace, alternating narration between Sarah and Adam. There are plenty of red herrings and a shocking twist at the end that readers won't see coming! I was actually really satisfied with the ending despite finding it disturbing. The biggest complaint I had with Rose's story is that Adam was a complete tool. I honestly couldn't stand his character and was hoping Sarah would just leave him to fend for himself after all his douchebag antics. While the twist at the end was great, I felt it was a little implausible, at least without answering a few more questions for me.

The audio narration was just okay on this one. It took me awhile to get used to the female narrator's voice, especially when she changed it to read for various male characters. It would have been funny when she voiced Matthew's character if it hadn't been so cringeworthy.

Overall, this one is definitely worth all of the hype it's being given! Give it a read and you won't regret it.

*Thanks to the author, Dreamscape Media, and Netgalley for providing me with this audiobook in exchange for an honest review!

The Perfect Marriage
4/5 ⭐️

Thank you to @dreamscape_media & @netgalley for allowing me to have a copy of the audiobook in exchange for a review!

This is Jeneva Rose’s debut novel and I never would have guessed! It’s packed with so much suspense and really leaves you asking, “who really did it?” Call me naive but I honestly didn’t guess the ending. My mind was made up on another character!

It had quite a few male characters so I became confused at times but the ending really tied together why everyone was necessary. A couple things felt unanswered to me and that’s why I couldn’t call it perfect but it was pretty close! 🙈

Adam is cheating on his wife, Sarah, with Kelly. Kelly is cheating on her husband, Scott, with Adam.. and maybe a second affair? Now Kelly is found dead in Adam’s bed but who did it? And why?

Absolutely amazing!! I thought I had it somewhat figured out, but Rose completely threw me for a loop with such a major twist!!
Completely five stars for me. I couldn’t wait to finish this to find out what happened. It kept my attention throughout and I loved reading it!

**”The question isn’t whether or not he loved her. The question is, did he kill her?”**

Sarah Morgan is a high-powered criminal defense attorney who seems to have it all - a skyrocketing career, a beautiful home in D.C., a cozy lake house in Virginia, perfect hair.... Her husband, Adam, doesn’t feel quite so fortunate. His writing career is floundering, his wife doesn’t want kids, and her workaholism leaves him feeling lonely and neglected.

**”She is the best, like I always knew she would be. I just never thought I’d resent her so much for it.”**

Sarah doesn’t know it, but Adam has spent more than a year having an affair with Kelly, a woman who is nothing like type-A, straight-laced Sarah, and whose own marriage might be even more unhappy than Adam’s. Adam is so in love with Kelly that he’s almost ready to leave Sarah for her... until Kelly is found dead in Adam’s bed. Suddenly, their forbidden love story is over, and Adam is the prime suspect in her gruesome murder.

**”In my experience, everything can change in a moment.”**

Adam insists that he is innocent, and with his wife’s extensive legal expertise, Sarah is the only one who can help him prove it. But will she want to help him once she knows the truth? Is it possible that he’s being honest about his innocence, even though he lied about everything else? And if Adam really didn’t kill Kelly, who did?

**”If he could lie to me for this long, maybe he could kill.**”

With *The Perfect Marriage*, Jeneva Rose has delivered a 5-star legal thriller that will keep you guessing until the very last chapter! It’s probably an unrealistic story, but so fast-paced and suspenseful that I didn’t mind. Filled with twists and turns I didn’t see coming, and enough suspects to keep you guessing (but not too many to be confusing), this was one of my favorite thrillers of 2020. An absolutely addictive read - I listened to the dual-narrator audiobook, and didn’t turn it off for 8 hours straight. It will make a fantastic movie or miniseries!

The Perfect Marriage is a fun, fast paced psychological thriller.

Sarah Morgan is a hot shot criminal lawyer in DC. Her husband, Adam Morgan is a struggling writer. Dissatisfied with his marriage, career, and …well, life, Adam is spiraling downward. FAST. He cannot seem to get a grip on his writing, his alcohol consumption, and now he also started to see another woman regularly at the lake house which Sarah bought for him to “write at”. Sh*t really hits the fan when Adam is arrested for the murder of his mistress which he is convinced he did not commit. Amazingly enough, his wife, graciously agrees to represent him in court despite his betrayal. Will Sarah be able to get to the bottom of this, and figure out “whodunnit”?

Told from 2 POVs The Perfect Marriage is heavy on juicy, “forbidden” details. Rough sex, cheating, self-loathing, overindulgence in sex and alcohol, traumatic childhood, dishonest cops, brutal murder – it has it all. The story unfolds at breakneck speed and is unputdownable. I was NOT able to guess whodunnit correctly, and was quite surprised by the shocking ending.

The audio production is fantastic. The Perfect Marriage is a dual narrator performance, and both Neil Hellegers and Teri Schnaubelt are phenomenal. I highly recommend this book on audio.

This being said I do have few issues with the way we were “led” to believe certain things.

POTENTIAL SPOILERS. Read ahead only if you have already read/listened to the book.

I feel like I was tricked, ya’ll 😊 I (somewhat) understand why the killer might have chosen to act the way he/she did, but I am confused as to why he/she would “think” in such misleading way when alone (??) I feel that we, the readers, were tricked into believing that this person could not have been our person of interest because of the way she/he voiced her/his thoughts and feeling with no one around. That did not really make too much sense to me.

Overall though, I think The Perfect Marriage was an impressive debut. I will definitely give Jeneva Rose’s other works a try.

Thank you to Dreamscape Media, NetGalley, and the author for giving me this ALC in exchange for my honest review.

Fantastic narration from both narrators. They really brought the characters of Sarah and Adam to life as well as the secondary characters. Thoroughly entertaining from beginning to end.

Adam is on trial for the murder of his mistress...his wife is his lawyer.

I love thrillers that keep me guessing- and this on did just that! There were a few twists that were downright unrealistic but this was a fun one. I feel like sometimes with thriller, they can go a little haywire and become a little senseless but I like the entertainment so I don't mind. It can really make it fun sometimes. And that ending...wow.

The audiobook was well done as well. There were alternating narrators- one for Sarah, and one for Adam. I really enjoy when a story- especially thrillers have different narrators. It makes things easier to follow.

This was the authors debut and I will definitely look for more by her. This book is out tomorrow.

I just need to stop reading stories that center around criminal defense or have criminal defense attorneys as the main character. I can normally tell right away whether the perspective of criminal defense is going to upset me or not...which I could tell immediately that this would...but I was definitely interesting in the murder mystery element and wanted to see how it played out. Ultimately, it just didn't work for me. This will probably work for people who are disconnected from the criminal defense/attorney world.

3.5 stars. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me an ARC copy of this book to read. I enjoyed this book as I was reading it, but I figured out the twist pretty early and wasn't overly excited to pick it up when I set it down. This story is about a couple named Sarah and Adam. Sarah is a very successful lawyer and Adam is a struggling writer. They have a lake house and one day, Adam's mistress is found dead at the lake house. He is accused of killing her and the rest of the book is figuring out whodunit. Sarah is his lawyer and the book alternates perspectives between Sarah and Adam in short, potato chip chapters. I really enjoyed that part of the writing style and would've liked it more if it had a little more to it. I thought it was really easy to understand and follow and this would be a good intro to thrillers if you haven't read much of them.

SPOILERS AHEAD:
The mistress was accused of killing her first husband. She's married again but her husband is barely a suspect. There are a couple other suspicious people, including Sarah's assistant who threatened Adam after finding out about the affair, but it was pretty obvious to me from about the halfway point that Sarah was the one who killed her. The husband gets sentenced to the death sentence and dies for a crime he did not commit.

I really liked the premise of this story. It was a great mystery and twisty. I liked the two voices - it was easy to keep up with which POV was active. I didn't like a couple of the characters which made it difficult for me to LOVE the book.

WOW WOW WOW!
Thank you to Dreamscape Media for allowing me to listen to the wonderful book.
I finished it yesterday and have not been able to stop thinking about the ending!! If I had placed a bet on what the ending could be when I started this book, I would have been dead wrong. My jaw truly dropped.

What hooked me right away about this book was how steamy Adam’s first few chapters were. And at times, it felt like there was something to root for in Sara and Sheriff Steven’s chemistry. (At least in my opinion)
What would have made this book 5 stars for me, was if the ending would have been less rushed. I wanted more from Adam. I wanted a little more from his mother. I wanted more of an explanation on Sheriff Stevens.
I thoroughly enjoyed the narration of this book. They each really sold the characters to me.
Can’t wait to read what Jeneva Rose writes next!!

I received the audio of The Perfect Marriage in exchange of my honest review.. I’ll start off with the good. The narrators were good when reading Sarah and Adam Morgan. When they had to switch to the opposite gender voices, it didn’t translate very well. The story is predictable and more like a screenplay than a book. My guess it will be sold to Lifetime channel.

If anyone knows about the law or trial procedures, they know there are so many holes in this story. It’s laughable. But I finished listening to it so it must’ve interested me.
